It would actually forbid speaking about against heterosexuality and the heterosexual lifestyle as well.
---Jack on 1/3/08

Frank: No prob. The bill you speak of sounds very strange. Freedom of Speech is something that American's cherish. Many fought and died so we could have it.
---sue on 5/31/07

Sue, I was mistaking this bill with one I read about elsewhere that will make it a hate crime to speak out against the actions or people in the GLBT community. Sort of a variation of the homeland security act and how our words can be used to convict us of inciting terrorism. Sorry for the mix up.
---Frank on 5/31/07

Everyone missed the point. it is illegal to kill someone, yet many do. waiting for execution on death row, they say they love God and changed. a leopard cannot change its spots. they cannot restore life. alternate lifestyles are evil in the eyes of God. they too cannot change their spots from what they are and practise. that is why sodom and gomorah were destroyed. any society that caters to evil practises by many is asking for destruction and feeling the wrath of God. no one can hide.
---ashley on 5/31/07

Hi Ralph; wow I totally agree with you! :) You put it into words soooo well how silly it is to focus on whether or not it is a "hate" crime murder! Yep, the victim of a "non-hate crime" is just as dead.
---Mary on 5/31/07

Ralph, I agree. Frank, it's not illegal to preach about it, just to kill for it.
---sue on 5/31/07

These types of laws will finally put preachers to the test about preaching the truth when it violates the law. Many have had it too easy. Sadly, it is one of the signs of the times. Revelation says the beast will overcome the saints. Not popular, but it's starting to happen. Rather than be angered or depressed it should be a wake-up call for all of us to make sure our soul is right with God.
---Frank on 5/31/07

Sue, it is already illegal to murder somebody, no matter what the reason. This hate crime nonsense is simply more liberal feel-good legislation. The premise is that a murderer is a bad person but if the murderer calls somebody a name before killing them, why then he is a really, really bad person. Either way the victim is still dead.
---ralph7477 on 5/30/07

Hate is a strong word, my friend. If God gives a preacher the words, they cannot be hate words. So therefore, there can be no crime committed.

Madison, people would rather listen to the hype instead of expending the energy to research it for themselves.

BTW, the Wizard called himself the "great and powerful Oz.." At least in the movie.
---NurrseRobert on 5/29/07

Wayne: Oz was the place. The man behind the curtain was the Wizard. If you are going to use an analogy at least get character and setting accurate.

The primary source is the actual bill. Too many people are listening to Christian hype about the bill instead of actually reading it and discussing it accurately.
---Madison1101 on 5/29/07

Ashley said" it is laws making it illegal to show the gay lifestyle as evil." But isn't it a bill to make it illegal to murder somebody because of their race, religion or sexual preference? Nothing about making anything illegal to show gay lifestyle is evil. You can do that by talking, but not killing!
---sue on 5/29/07

both men should be executed immediately for murder, regardless. satan often uses small tactics to obtain his goals. first prayer leaves school, then wrong to discipline children, tried teaching false doctrine in church, then take God out of society, now it is laws making it illegal to show the gay lifestyle as evil. sodom and gomorah grew the same way and they were destroyed. any civilization that denies and ignors God is ripe for destruction, including North America
---ashley on 5/29/07

primary source?, now why didn't I think of that?
why believe what we see?, just go to the source. they will
tell us what to think. pay no attention to that man behind
the curtain.. just do what the Ozz says.
---wayne on 5/29/07

Wayne: in my opinion, both murderers should pay with their own lives, or at least lives behind bars till they die. No, I'm not being vengeful and cruel. I'm being honest. 26 years after his death, we still miss my brother, while as far as we know, his killer walks free.
---Mary on 5/29/07

if one murders a person because of race, or sexual perference, and onother murders someone for money or some other coverup, which should receive the longest sentence?

Nurse: My questin is this: Why don't other believers get their information from the primary source, instead of media hype preachers like Dobson? Ignorance breeds fear. And people like Dobson feed that fear.
---Madison1101 on 5/28/07

That makes at least two of us Madison. The sky isn't falling, contrary to what James Dobson is saying.
---NurseRobert on 5/27/07

NurseRobert: I did read the bill. I went to and read the bill. It does not say anything about limiting free speech. It is specific to violent crimes motivated by race, religion, sexuality, etc.
---Madison1101 on 5/27/07

Connecticut (added prison time for using homophobic words during a crime) has it, California is about to pass it, Brazil is forcing the UN to penalized any country who don't pass similar laws. Laws that will restrict speech, especially relating against "gays." We are truly living in the end times. I'm not an alarmist, just stating prophectic fact. Develop a strong, intimate relationship with God (not a church) and pray that you and yours will be protected during the tribulation.

Hey, I thought this law was to protect somebody from being murdered because of his religion, race, sexual preference or whatever. Does it also mean people are forbidden to talk negatively about these things? That would be pretty wierd.
---sue on 5/27/07

Eloy: "first I would go and tell the school board to remove the unconstitutional ban prohibiting the wearing of Christian jewelry, and at the sametime notify them that they need to make this published, and then tell them the consequences of a large law suit, the loss of jobs and the loss of their license to operate, and closure of the school."

I didn't know OUR constitution had any force in the UK.
---NurseRobert on 5/27/07

Has anyone here actually READ the proposed bill??

This bill applies only to violent crime and, in fact, specifically addresses freedom-of-speech issues.

"Nothing in this Act, or the amendments made by this Act, shall be construed to prohibit any expressive conduct protected from legal prohibition by, or any activities protected by the free speech or free exercise clauses of, the First Amendment to the Constitution,"
---NurseRobert on 5/27/07

Jack... you said.. "It would actually forbid speaking about against heterosexuality and the heterosexual lifestyle as well."

Where did you get that?

Hi everyone; I know this is mainly talking about free speech, but the term "hate crime" is almost unbearable to me: my brother was murdered in '81 in cold blood, but it wasn't a "hate crime"--nothing to do with my brother's religion, sexuality or anything. I guess my point is, crime hurts all it's victims--"hate-related" or just plain cruel.
---Mary on 5/26/07

While I do not agree with limiting speech at least it will manifest which preachers truly believe what the word of God says and have the guts to preach the word regardless.
---Frank on 5/25/07

I believe there's truth to what Wayne says, that there is a very real danger of suppression of 'speech" particularly christian would fit for what it is supposedly written for, ie; violent crimes that cause bodily injury...these are already considered crimes, punishable by law. According to aclj there were only (approximately) 1,100 crimes, classified as "hate" crimes last year, of course too many, but most crimes did not fall under that classification.
---christina on 5/18/07

Wayne: Again, you are showing a great deal of ignorance. I have been a public school teacher in a large urban district for 20 years and have never heard of any such thing happening in my district or my area. I also attended two large urban state colleges for undergrad and grad school, and again, have never heard any such thing. My kids all attended state colleges and they never experienced any such thing.

Wayne3: I just read the bill on the Library of Congress website and it is specifically written to refer to crimes of violence that cause bodily injury to persons, and has no mention of speech anywhere in it.

Again, I think your head is in the sand with James Dobson's on this one.
---Madison1101 on 5/17/07

alanOfUk, wish I was there, first I would go and tell the school board to remove the unconstitutional ban prohibiting the wearing of Christian jewelry, and at the sametime notify them that they need to make this published, and then tell them the consequences of a large law suit, the loss of jobs and the loss of their license to operate, and closure of the school. Of course I would give them time to act on my move, 1 day to remove the ban and to publish this in the school. Then the legal briefs would begin
---Eloy on 5/17/07

Madison. the "hate" speech crime will come. That's what this bill is all about, to silence preachers, if the liberals have their way. Free speech is in serious trouble in most major colleges today and even in grade schools. Students can't mention Jesus Christ without being ostracized by the teachers. If you can't see this coming then you do have your head in the sand. Sorry to be so blunt.
---wayne on 5/17/07

Mary. I said if one doesn't vote moral issues i doubt they are a christian. Not if you dissagree with James Dobson.
---wayne on 5/17/07

Read These Insightful Articles About Acne Treatment're right about James Dobson. He is always in the forefront for protecting and preaching the truth. He was largely responsible for the Salvation Army rescinding the "domestic partners" benefits for their employees that they were going to give a few years ago. Think about this. If the Salvation Army needs "domestic partners" benefits, what kind of employees do they have? It is close to the end for sure.
---Susie on 5/16/07

Probably ... In the UK it is becoming increasing difficult to state one's beliefs
Do you know, a school here has recently banned the wearing of crosses, whilst specifically allowing Muslim and Hindhu apparel and such-like?
---alan_of_UK on 5/16/07

Wayne: My head is not in the sand. I love the Lord. I find it interesting that the most intelligent thing you can say about what I posted is to attack me. That is a sign of someone who is illogical and uninformed.
---Madison1101 on 5/16/07

Whoa, Wayne--back the horse up a minute here lol! Just because a person doesn't agree with James Dobson on everything doesn't mean he or she is not a Christian. James Dobson is only human and I often disagree with him but I love the Lord.

America, is called the "UNITED" States, But they have invited every kind of EVIL to take the place of a HOLY GOD. Get back to God, before its TOO LATE pray for your nation, before other nations come in and OBLITERATE the UNITED right out of the States, to DESTROY, One NATION UNDER GOD....I pray for GODS HOLY JUSTICE, to keep UNITY in America, instead of ''AMERICA DIVIDED''
---Cynthia_1 on 5/16/07

Ed and Cynthia, I like your posts. When one is valued based on their life style or sexual preference it becomes a dangerous society.
Ofcourse this "bill" is a forerunner to include "hate speech" to curtail preachers from talking about certain sins. This goes on in third world countries.
---wayne on 5/16/07

If you think free speech is not in jeopardy, then you have your head in the sand. Washington post, that's a laugh. Free speech is ok as long as one does not mention "Jesus" . This law is to protect special groups of people. It's a fore runner for the "hate" speech to follow.
---wayne on 5/16/07

James Dobson is sounding the alarm. We should listen. Christians have the responsibility to vote for moral values. Otherwise I doubt you are a Christian.

Everybody experiences hate, therefore hate cannot be made to be illegal, else you would have to penalize every single person, including God whom hates and removes lives off the face of the earth on a daily basis. Are people really this ignorant to try to legislate against the God-made free tongue and freedom of speech? Sounds like people want to engage in another civil war and kill their own homeland kin again. BTW, Speaking out against something is not the samething as hating something.
---Eloy on 5/15/07

According to the Washington Post: "It does not impinge on public speech or writing in any way," countered Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, D-Mich., pointing out that the bill reaffirms First Amendment and free speech rights."
---Madison1101 on 5/15/07

People really should research the subject objectively before they start playing Chicken Little about it. Dr. Dobson is trying to scare Christians with lies about this bill.
---Madison1101 on 5/15/07

This is the "other ed." I'm just curious. When is a crime committed against someone because the perpetrator loves the person or group he vandalizes? The entire "hate crimes" logic is simply another instance of placing barriers between people. One group is told they are better than others who might "hate" them. Another group is told they are inferior because they hate. Give me a break. Most of us react to other PEOPLE rather than to other GROUPS!

part 2. A house that is divided against itself can not stand. Christians should RISE TOGETHER IN ONE UNITED BODY and recognise this Devil that is HELL BENT and causing DETESTIBLE LAWS, INSANE LAWS, legalizing insanity, instead of legalizing and adhering to Gods Commandments....If my people which are called be my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways then will I hear from heaven, and will FORGIVE THEIR SIN, and will HEAL THEIR LAND. 2 Chron. 7:14

I could not fit it but these were the 30 curses for disobedience mentioned in Deuteronomy 28....The devil knows his time is at hand... And if all do not rise up in one accord in CHRISTIAN UNITY to pray against these HATE CRIME BILLS. and put an end to this in the [Ephesians 6] Spirit, Brides, Church its time to put on your armor in the spirit....FOR THIS DAY WE FIGHT. And whoever is not prepared for this battle.... I dare to say will not make it...THE WAR FOR YOUR SOULS HAS BEGUN.

When we pray alone we can put 1000 demons to flight, but in unity, 2 christians praying together agreeing can put 10,000 to flight, Matthew 18:18, The Devil realizes this, So he does EVERYTHING in his evil power, to bring DISCORD, REVILINGS, HATRED, HYPOCRISY, CHURCH SPLITS, etc. to split the Christians. This is never noticed in any other religion, except for Christianity, Because He REALIZES that a house that is divided against....part 1

The growing trend about "hate" speech is that it is becoming less and less concerned about unfounded accusations which promote violence and more concerned with what christianity teaches. The irony is that those who are "anti-hate-speech" hate the speech of christians. This makes them hypocrites.
