The Bible says that Christians are God's workmanship, created in Christ to do good works that God has prepared for us to do. I believe when we are following Him and being obedient our works are acceptable to Him. Also, our motives need to be pure.

We are vessels of God...In Gods eyes, Our works are not good works. Its God working through us, that make good works. He is the vine, we are just branches.
There is none good but GOD

God alone knows the heart. Man must judge actions however, to say that we should not judge is not biblical but to say that we should judge the motive is to judge the heart..

The Bible says Mat 5:24But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all men. 25He did not need man's testimony about man, for he knew what was in a man.

As I read this these words echoed in my ears "spread the Gospel daily and if necessary use words." Often there is a lot of talk about the Gospel but there often lacks evidence of action to demonstrate it. The intention of the heart affects the motive that an action is done by. But God can use evil for good. Surrender to God daily and pray and seek to honour him daily and I believe that he will use you to do good works.

I would encourage you my friends, do not let your faith be without works and and thus dead. Though we are saved by faith, our actions should honour our salvation and Gods gift of grace.

When I was doing good works as the sort of Catholic I was, I was keeping score . . . expecting God to accept me into Heaven for what I did.

Now I am more interested in personally loving people > the works come as a result of caring about others, and they are OFFERED for God to judge if He accepts them or not.

Nana, any work done in accordance with God's will isn't filthy as you said. Many do "works" thinking that it is "good". When really most works done by a person before conversion are for selfish reasons and hardly ever for the glory of God. For example "I helped a person that makes me feel good. I did a good thing" If pride is the result of a good work and not humility and glory for God then you can bet that work is filthy.

2)
God's good works are supposed to be difficult and not easy. God is not pleased with works that are done only at our convenience. He needs to see sacrifice, difficulty and humility and NO pride. All in all I am agreeing with you Nana. I am just adding more onto what you said. God bless.
---Matthew on 6/12/07

Good works are good when you can keep your mouth shut, and not stand on the street corner telling everyone how good you are.
God is more than able to do that for you, in due time.
When someone is constantly going on about their exploits for the Lord, I really just want to say, shut up already.
Let your light shine before men, but that doesn't include a self-inflated ego that goes on and on and on....

1)
As I see it, Good Works are always good and
acceptable; from conception to inception. Is
not all good from God? We were told that a
house divided could not stand. The Samaritan
who showed compassion was not a child of
the "promise", was he? Yet, what he did is taught
to us as pleasing to God.
---Nana on 6/11/07

2)
The only good works are those done to others and
for others in Love (as in love your neighbor ...).
"""The bible says that our works are as filthy rags."""
To that I say that no work done in Love is filthy.
What is so "filthy" about mercy and compassion
in action; that feeds the hungry,
clothes the naked and heals the sick?
---Nana on 6/11/07

Matthew 5:16
Let your light so shine before men that they may see your GOOD WORKS and glorify your Father in Heaven.
They are acceptable as long as God gets all the Glory.

Rickey. This often quoted verse in Is.64:6 is not referring to us. It can apply to us, but it is referring to the nation of Israel who had backslidden to the extent that not one person was seeking God (V7). It was their righteousnesses that were as filthy rags, not ours.

Prov.15:8 The sacrifices of the unsaved are an abomination to the Lord.
The unsaved persons good works are not done through the Savior. It may be that the good of the work is accepted (as in the case of the good Samaritan)but the person itself is not accepted until they have their sin dealt with.

Agree, it is the motive of the heart, to be done as unto the Lord as others posted. It must be led by the Spirit, not be of the flesh, which even christians can do. Some things have an appearance of good, but God knows the heart.

Yes Mima, that's correct. Your answer is in the question itself. The Bible says..ALL have sinned.. God.(Rom 3:23) Its only when anyone is washed in the Blood of the Lamb, that any good or genuine, or Righteous Acts can be done, that will be truly acceptable
in the eyes of God. Brian.6933

Good works are acceptable only to God if done as unto the Lord. This is what made Abel righteous in the sight of God. As always be sure that the true living God is living in you. Test yourself to see if this is true.

Romans13:9 The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery; You shall not murder; You shall not steal; You shall not covet"; and any other commandment, are summed up in this word, "Love your neighbor as yourself."

As far as right-standing with God is concerned, no. The bible says that our works are as filthy rags.
---Rickey on 6/9/07

God knows everything we do, good or bad. He knows when we give from the heart, help others and not be selfish. I believe God acknowledges people's good works. Regardless if they are Christians or sinner. He just blesses the Christians more than he would a sinner. But good works will not get anyone into heaven. We need to do good works from our heart, and we will be rewarded from God.
