Are Rosary Beads A Sin

My friend wears his rosary beads around his neck and just this week an employee that he works with said it was a sin to wear the beads around his neck. Is this true?

You know that old Bible story where they come to Jesus saying didn't we worship you, didn't we do miracles for you and He says Get away from me I never knew you.

Thats bc you were calling Him Mary.

Lorra #2,

About this overwriting thing...is that what the Catholic Church did, overwrite the Roman Empire, and the Saints overwrite the gods, and Mary overwrites Dianna or whoever the Roman virgin goddess was?All Pagan religions have their virgin goddess and son.Are you saying the RCC overwrote these pagan traditions, and that's where all the division has come from in Protestants not accepting them? Why should the Protestants accept that in the first place? Christianity is not based on overwriting.
---kathr4453 on 8/15/07

Lorra Said:*We are NOT pagans anymore. We should overwrite every pagan form of worship with some kind of Christian substitute*.

Lorra, we never were pagan to begin with, so True Christianity doesn't need to overwrite anything. Sounds like the Christian Rock group who said we need to take back Rock and Roll ......but Rock and Roll was never Christian to begin with. Putting Christians words to it ...is that what you mean by overwriting? So we can still be Worldly...but not really, kinda thing?
---kathr4453 on 8/15/07

Apparently you're not up to date on the apparitions of Mary and what she is saying about praying the rosary. Heed her message people and pray it! When a loved one is sick we immediately ask others to pray for them. It's called intercessory prayer. It works. Prayer is powerful so we want as many people as possible to do it - hence asking our holy lady to pray for us as we ask each other to pray for us. It's a no brainer. I'll continue to pray for each of you since you're completely misguided.
---jayne on 8/15/07

Mary's creator (Jesus), needs no support. God allowed Mary to bear a son (Jesus), for His purpose, but Mary was created by the Father, son (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit. The Catholic Founders will answer to God for leading many from the truth. They actually think that Jesus answers to Mary, or that Mary refers messages and prayers to Jesus. Vastly distorted!. CATHOLIC'S ARE BLIND AND DON'T HAVE THE COURAGE TO SEEK THE TRUTH. They follow the ways of fools. Sorry, must tell the truth. I was Catholic.

1) Wherever in the world today, where there had been a pagan shrine or pagan worship, we find nearly always a shrine or church dedicated to Mary and the Lord Jesus.

It's kinda like when you sweep the house clean and get the demon out and it comes back bringing 7 more. It's replacing one evil for another. It's still false worship, idol worship no matter how you slice it.
---Holly4jc on 8/15/07

2) Satan will gladly step aside on one issue in order to bring in a more powerful lie of his that will lead even more to the road of hell. Satan still wins.

They are not in the bible.

Do you need beads when you talk to your friends?
---Paul on 8/14/07

It's a shame that people waste so much time and effort on supporting a lie, like praying the Rosary, instead of getting the Gospel out to the world. I was a Catholic and believed this sinful practice of idolatry, at one time. God wants you to pray according to His will, not the Catholic way. It's not about Mary and the Rosary. The Rosary Beads must go if you want to grow in Christ. If you really had the anointing of the Holy Spirit, you would know that what I say here is the truth. It's about Jesus.

Andrea, why do so many on this site object to replacing pagan forms of worship? Whether as celebrations on the calendar or shrines? We are NOT pagans anymore. We should overwrite every pagan form of worship with some kind of Christian substitute.

Let go of your pagan roots - they were NOT real.
---lorra8574 on 8/14/07

No problem-cause the blessed Mother of the Lord Jesus is with Jesus-on the same side. Joesph as well. The beads of the Rosary hold no power but reflect on Jesus's life, death and resurrection which is the focus and sole purpose of the Rosary. The Angel Gabriel himself of God sent by God to indeed Hail Mary! As Elizabeth stated Blessed are you among women and the fruit of your womb! Enables us to say the same. pray unceasingly!God hears me, cause he answers my prayers! blessed be God forever!

Idolatry, the worship of religious forms, turns life into spiritual death. Jesus said, ``a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering a service to God'' (John 16:2).

a time will come when people who think they are being true to God will actually be against Him. The RC says its the Protestant church I say it is a system of false worship. The worship of statues and the prayers to a dead (albeit holy) woman who was the mother of Jesus Christ not your co-savior/mediator.

The truth is that we are able to come to God without aids, we don't need a telephone or a cell phone to talk to him, we don't need an email adress to hear from him, we don't need a radio or a TV to understand him, no we don't need rosary beeds either, all that is needed is Faith. To add anything to Faith is disobedience to God's WORD and yes all disobedience is sin. It is like saying to GOD, Father we don't want to do it your way we want to do it our way.
---Marcia on 8/14/07

It may be a sin , its pagan idolitry, and a religious spirit. It has no power in it's meaning and is a useless fuction.

Yes, praying the Rosary is a sin. It may be a sin of ignorance, but it's still sin. This is why God will not hear prayers to Mary and repititious prayers. He can't look upon sin. I didn't make the rules, so talk to God about it.
---John on 8/13/07

resurrection/ birth of Jesus/ Angel Gabriel Hail to Mary/ the life of Jesus/ His passionate death-All are reflected on in the Rosary-Meditating on the life of Jesus in this form is not pagan at all. The Rosary's about Jesus-His family on earth and His mission. It's just one form of prayer...Catholics pray the way all Christians pray as well...in groups..in silence...by ourselves.Jesus doesn't discriminate against those who call on His Name ever! For wherever 2-3 come together in His name...HE WILL BE THERE!
---Lisa on 8/13/07

Most Catholics don't consider it sin if your a Catholic and use them for prayer.
It is a sin to pray to dead people or anyone other then God. If your a Christian.
It is disrespectful to wear a rosary if it is not of your religion and they are used by more then just the RC.
---Andrea on 8/13/07

If what you hear does not line up with Scripture...then throw it out. Perhaps if Joseph Smith (Mormons) had checked the Scriptures against what he heard from those "angels of light" that appeared to him in the forest, he would have known that Satan comes as an "angel of light" and he would have dismissed their lies and preaching of a "different gospel". Whenever you HEAR a word preached you should ALWAYS check Scripture and make sure it lines up with it. That is WISDOM.

warwick-Ruben that isn't what Acts 17:11 says. It says the Bereans searched the scriptures to see if what Paul said was true.

Which means that did they not just go by "scripture only"..They received the word and then check scripture..
---Ruben on 8/7/07

Hey folks,
Here's a good book for you. I love the bible, but sometimes it's good to read others. Try Alexander Hislop's The Two Babylons.

In his acheological investigations he traces the rosary to the worship of Diana of the Ephesians. You remember the pagans crying out, "Great is Diana of the Ephesians. Kind of predates Jesus, Mary and the Catholics.

Now, how did this pagan tool of worship become a part of the Holy Roman Catholic Church? Hmmmm, I wonder.
---Mark_H on 8/4/07

Ruben that isn't what Acts 17:11 says. It says the Bereans searched the scriptures to see if what Paul said was true. I can only take it that the Bereans wanted to check the words of a man, any man, by the Word of God. A good idea that we can all take to heart.
---Warwick on 8/4/07

Ruben: They believed Paul "oral" preaching before searching scriptures.

And do you suppose that could be because the Gospels were in the process of being written and were not distributed for everyone to have or read yet? There weren't any printing presses back then you know, everything was hand scribed. So, when Paul was ministering here on earth, that is how the gospel was shared...orally. There wasn't any other way yet.

And when they did "search" the scriptures, they were speaking of the Old Testament, not the new. The Old Testament has many, many prophecies concerning the Messiah, Jesus. That is why Jesus quoted Isaiah

Sorry to disappoint you, but if your praying the Rosary and reading the Bible, this does not cancel out the idolatry. And if you read the Catholic Bible, forget it. Denounce the beads and other idols, ask God to forgive you and receive Christ. I did, and it made all the difference under heaven.
The King James Bible will enlighten you, I promise.
---a_former_Catholic on 8/2/07

The scripture is for the believer to give him
confidence in what he is praying but God does not need to hear scripture he already knows his word he wants to hear your words out of a broken
and contrite spirit, he wants you to talk to him not shout scriptures at him, do you repeat everything someone is saying when you are talking to them that would not be much of a conversation, you tell them what on your mind thats what will get results in prayer.

1. Jesus is not the son of the blessed mother as I even used to call her. He's the son of God. It's time to wake up from your spiritual slumber. Mary can do nothing for you. I promise. Focus on Christ and the cross. The devil want's you to be preoccupied with Mary and the Rosary and dead saints and all the idols so you miss the mark. I know exactly what I'm saying here. Praying to Mary is fruitless. She did her part and did it well, but she's not the way.
---John on 8/2/07

2. I too was Catholic, and by the grace of the living God I was Born Again into the kingdom of God through His son Jesus Christ. A lot of people hear of Jesus all their lives, but they don't know Him. Jesus said that you must be Born Again and when you are, the Holy Spirit will show you the real Jesus and convict you of the idolatry. Not putting Catholics down, just trying to warn them and point them to God's truth. The Spirit of God is powerful, and when you truly receive Christ you will know it.

Holly4JC, here is some food for thought - while abortion, divorce, living together without marriage, same-sex marriage and actively gay clergy (with the acceptance of their churches) are rising in popularity, the popularity of the Rosary is rising in opposition to them. Those that pray the Rosary are usually not the ones committing the sins noted above, but are often praying to God to stop those sins and for the salvation of the sinners.
