God's Will For My Job

I am praying about whether to change jobs or not. I have a few options, but I want to do what God wants me to do. My husband has made clear what he wants me to do. Again, I want to do what is right. How do I make this decision and know what is God's will?

What did you end up doing and how did God respond? I figure by now you can look back and see His marvelous response that sometimes is hard to decipher when it's happening. I've been in your shoes and I am again, so I was hoping for some testimony.... :)
---Marta on 2/22/14

Phil, perfect answer.
---Jed on 7/7/12

As a husband, I do all I can to take the burden of work off my wife . She is best suited to do what she does best-nurture and protect. Resources for her to accomplish that task is my duty. Things are tight, money is always an issue. No slavery to debt, contentment with devoutness is great gain. Work may be needed to get there.
---Phil on 7/7/12

my suggestion is Trust,Honor and Respect Your Husband, cuz You probably already vowed to ?
---kevin5443 on 2/21/11

Im in the same boat and sorta confused about what to do. I do have a job now but not feeling real fulfilled in it. God is not the author of confusion and its best to wait on Him..(trust)The Economy, Job Market and turning 57 can be challenging.. I can relate
---Phil on 2/21/11

I'm not saying that everything out of a husband's mouth is God's direct word to a married woman, but don't you think this might be a clue about what God wants you to do?
---Cluny on 1/13/11

OF COURSE God has an interest in your job. Do you really think he wants a Christian working in a bar or a topless dance club? God will even tell us if he wants us to have surgery or not!! HE cares so much that he even knows the number of hairs on our head. Don't UNDERESTIMATE the depth of God's love for us. He even saved every tear you ever cried. Don't try to tell me that God doesn't care about our jobs. Just because they are here on earth doesn't change anything!! PLEASE other readers....know that GOD CARES and will direct you in the path HE HAS for your life. PRAY TO HIM. He WON't let you down. He will even stop you from getting laid off, or help you to get a raise!! OH yes, Christian brothers and sisters....GOD CARES!!!!!!
---julie on 1/13/11

Do you perceive a conflict between your husband's desire and what God would have you do? (in respect to your job?)
---susan on 8/27/08

Well, I guess whatever your husband has made clear what you are to do about your job issue.

God does what unity in your marriage. This Will of God we already know.
---Nicole on 7/30/08

Ofcourse ask God. Wait a little while if still nothing from God keep asking. Then if you feel right about proceeding, then go ahead with your plans. This should be between you and God.
---catherine on 7/29/08

pray about your options, ask God for guidance, believe that He hears you, believe that He will answer you and He will give you Peace in your heart about what His will is for you. Trust God and be patient. You will know. God bless!
---Cynthia on 7/29/08

Seeking God's will for a career is extremely important. Knowing God's will sometimes takes experience with God. You have a knowing inside of you. God often tells me to go and try it. Not referring to an outside job, ofcourse, but in other simpler matters. If you are unsure, go and try it. You will soon discover for yourself if it is indeed God's will for your life. Always keeping your eyes on Him.

holly, jrsus told us as it wasd in the days of noah so shall it be at the coming of the son of man.I agre with your analysis, and add that integrity, committment, honesty, lacking in the world as it is shows us that it is miising with our relationship with God also.most people don,t realize that first with God thru jesus then you have the strength thru jesus too impart to mortal relationships.God first then everything works.
---tom2 on 8/18/07

I am having the same problem only I am not married. I want to do God's will. I pray and pray but sometimes can't hear his voice. Keep praying and listen to your husband also but you must do what God wants you to do. My answer isn't a clear cut answer only to keep praying.
---Patti on 8/15/07

Thanks for sharing Tom2...I figured you had some kind of "monk-like" experience. I do agree with you that there is way too much compromise today in Christians's lives. They seem to have lost the "fear of the Lord" (or perhaps never had it) and totally skipped right over the teaching about walking in honesty, purity and integrity. So sad. We just have to keep praying for the body of Christ to get serious. Be blessed!
---Holly4jc on 8/14/07

holly, let me just say that the temptations of this world today with all the vast communications at hand for any type of viewing you can think of,and the temptation of money and a sexual atmosphere that allows everyone to participate.and knowing that scripture tells us that mans heart is wickedly evil and he loves the dark.most times makes me wish I lived ontop of a mountain in the middle of the himalayas.but to answer your question I have spent some time secluded, with a poverty driven brotherhood.

holly thers a reason why jesus and most of the prophets at one time or another had to spend 40 days or more alone in the wilderness with God.in this world today with all its temptations its impossible for most christians to live as they know they should.sister, truly I believe the discription of what man will be like in the end days.lovers of the flesh with ears that hear only what they want to and professing a love of God and his son but living a life denying the power or it.
---tom2 on 8/12/07

holly, the vast majority of christians today don,t take up their cross daily and follow jesus.praise God for the few that do.poverty is not what jesus wants for anyone, but poverty of the spirit,of the knowledge of the truth of jesus, these are death.the bible teaches us that you can be alive yet dead.Iam sorry to say that most are spiritually dead.the world has become such a place of temptation, that most are swept along as a great flood sweeps thru and uproots and destroys anything in its path.

and jesus sid that God feeds the birtds ,and they toil not,he also said your father in heaven knows you have need of them meaning food and clothing,so seek ye first the kingdom and all this will be added. sounds like jesus means God knows you need food and clothing ,and atleast in my opinion prayer about them is useless ramblings.
---tom2 on 8/11/07

you can pray for anyting and everything you want thats our God given right.all iam saying is maybe just maybe we shoukld be somewhat selective in our requests.you have not cause you ask not is not the answer.usually the answer is you have not cause you live not.when your prayer life is mostly starts with I want,I need you can usually be classified as a self centered person, who loves themselves and their own life more than the people around them, completely unlike jesus.
---tom2 on 8/11/07

yes the idea is to become more like jesus everyday. and we all know jesus was totally into his possessions and his joy and his life and his job and no as I recall he was into love, redemption and spirituall truth and pleasing his father.who do you want to please? the problem is people are into fleshly needs and pray for them. when jesus struck paul down he told his servant That paul was his chosen and that he ,meaning paul would have to SUFFER GREATLY.for my sake.no one wants to suffer today.
---tom2 on 8/11/07

what most christians seem to forget is that thru history most christians by the worlds standards have lived humble suffering lives.look up the popes the first popes for the first 350 years of the church were ALL MARYTARED. great job incentive. the prosperity the God wants you to be wealthy gospel or prosperous doesn,t exist brother.God wants your soul to prosper first.and actually you should also.

warwick. I don,t believe that when jesus said that the topic was about fleshly needs.god wants you to have an obidient repentant heart.he wants you to trust him,and he wants to change you.to be in constant termoil over jobs,or anything of this world is sin.and a foothold for satan.
---tom2 on 8/11/07

Tom2 like you my needs are both spiritual & physical & I pray for both. I have received many blessings both physical & spiritual because I ask. His word says they don't have because they don't ask!

To have a job which allows us to live well, to provide nourishing food for our family & ourselves is something worth praying for. God has also given me the finances to help others in dire need & I prayed for that too.
---Warwick on 8/11/07

most christians pray for more money, bigger homes, all fleshly treasures.jesus didn,t come to proclaim the prosperity gospel.thats the problem with the church today.the vast majority are goats, praying for wordly treasures.and living their lives with job, money, possesions as their idols.
---tom2 on 8/11/07

warwick, absolutely, but what are your needs?are they spiritual? or fleshly?what are your treasures?remember what God allowed satan to do to job?the problem with most christians is they don,t live a life seeking God,living crucified loving lives.they worry and seek bigger and better wordly treasures.SEEK YE FIRST.gOD KNOWS WHAT YOU NEED problem is we don,t.

Tom aren't we called to submit our needs to the Father in Jesus name?

Doesn't the Lord say -you don't have because you don't ask -?
---Warwick on 8/11/07

Praying and seeking God's will for various areas of your life and choices that are before you to be made is not worrying, it's desiring to live in His perfect will...not our own and asking Him to reveal that will to us. I seek Him and ask Him for revelation and He gives it to me.

Jeremiah 33:3
Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.
---Holly4jc on 8/10/07

holly,I know what God wants from us. jesus told us not to worry about what we would eat, what we would wear, what nost people fail to see and understand is God wants to guide you spiritually.wnats you to crucify your flesh and follow jesus.not worry from day to day abouit a job,or bill momey,or clothes. Gods guidance is spiritual.jesus said THE FATHER KNOWS YOU HAVE NEED ,BUT SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM AND ALL THESE THINGS WILL BE ADDED UNTO YOU.

1) Melissa: God has led me to the last 3 jobs that I had (I am at the 3rd now). Each time I am in the position where a job change has come, I seek employment, go on interviews, etc. (do my part) and then pray and ask God to only open the door that He has for me to walk through and to shut ever so tightly the doors He does not want me to walk through. "When God opens a door, no man can shut it and when God shuts a door, no man can open it". I pray His word back to Him in my prayers.

2) Melissa: When God led me to the job I am at now (a temp to perm job) after I had been laid off from my job, when I was offered the job permanently, I did not want to take it because it was 2,000/yr less than what I was making before. I had a wrestling match with God (I did not want to take it because of the pay cut, but God was telling me to take it) and of course, God won. He told me "I have something for you there". Well...I was obedient and after being there 1 year...
---Holly4jc on 8/9/07

3) Melissa: ...I was making almost 6,000 more per yr than my former job. The best part is that 2 people I got to witness to there got saved and one came back to church after being long gone and re-committed himself to the Lord. I have had the opportunity to pray for people at work and have seen God answer the prayers very quickly. God's ways are definitely not our ways, but if we are obedient to do what He is telling us to do (even if we don't agree), He will bless us!
---Holly4jc on 8/9/07

Tom...here's some scriptures for you to meditate on:

Prov 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding, 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and HE SHALL DIRECT your paths.

Phil 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in EVERYTHING by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your REQUESTS be made known to God, 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Tom:

Matt 7:7 ASK and it will be given to you, SEEK, and you WILL find, knock, and it WILL be opened to you. 8 For EVERYONE who ASKS receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

Psalm 31:3
For You are my rock and my fortress, therefore, for Your names sake, LEAD me and GUIDE me.

1 Thessalonians 5:17

Psalm 32:8
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go, I will GUIDE you with My eye.

I would agree about the husband statement.finding Gods will?its not a mystery.the real problem is being obidient.when most christians say they are praying what they really mean is they know what they should do they just don,t want to.

I have learned that finding God's Will is not near as important as Obeying God's Law. Your Husband has set the stage for your test of faith by making his decision clear. God tells all wives to submit to their husbands.(Ipeter3:1-7)In obeying your husband, regardless of your own desires,(though you should still share the way you feel)that demonstrates your faith. If you are a child of God, he will never let you fall. I have often found that He waits for your obedience before showing you his will.

neither in all the bible,or all the epistles ever written did a evangelist, minister, disciple or anyone ever speak, INCLUDING JESUS about how to seek GODS help in job selection.jesus never spoke about it no body ever has too my knowledge.maybe, just maybe God expects you to do some thinking and choosing yourself.
---tom2 on 7/28/07

almost no one changes jobs to aline closer with Gods will unless they are moving into full time ministry.most change because they want a larger salary,or other issues that are directly connected to the flesh.Gods will melissa isn,t a mystery YOUR SALVATION THEN YOUR PERSONAL SPIRITUAL GROWTH ONCE SAVED.THAT GODS WILL.
---tom2 on 7/28/07

if you live a life based on secular motives in the job market for instance don,t expect God to be involved. a christian you are to be used of God no matter where you are, so I don,t undestand the issue of where God wants anyone in relationship to their job.no matter what your job is ,and no matter who you work for as a christian you are to bahave and talk, and live , and work as a follower of jesus christ.

the word job is non existant in the bible.jesus never spoke or asked anyone about their work accept peter and matthew.if God was worried about your job don,t you think he would have mentioned it in the bible?now he does say to be a diligent worker, and earn your pay,but thats about it.
---tom2 on 7/28/07

melissa, iam sorry if you feel that way, but in my opinion you are DEAD WRONG.peters job, andrews job, pauls job, meant notta to jesus.your job is a source of income only.if there are people who you can witness to and other christians there thats just great.God will put you first spiritually where he wants when you obey.to make a big issue of where to work is a joke to me.
---tom2 on 7/28/07

mellisa, its a no brainer.if you being persecuted on the job you have religious rights, excercise them,if you need more money seek a higher salary,if you want more christian activities organize them,or spend more time with fellow believing co workers.God wants you spiritually right first and foremost your job dear is just that a job, that can be used of God.to worry about or pray about where god wants you isn,t wrong unless you worry and drag it out to a point of causing strife within your life is sin.

Tom-Your reply was kind of rude and insensitive. I feel that God is in complete control of our lives. The only way we can mess it up is to disobey-then His plan works out later the hard way. Yes, your job matters because there are co-workers to witness to, and if you work with the public, there are many others to witness to or influence. I want to be where God wants me to be.
---melissa on 7/27/07

bottom line, you change jobs for 2 reasons. either wordly,or in line with Gods word and will.thats all there is there ain,t no more
---tom2 on 7/24/07

anonomyous,as I said peter was a fisherman, and his brother andrew.God has no interest in your vocation.or your desire to change it.these are fleshly concerns.to pray to God about changing jobs is ridiculous.oh God should I be a jet pilot ,or a pastry chef, PLEASE,no maybe a nuro surgeon.God is concerned with your spiritual choices, not whether to fish commercially,or be a gold prospector.
---tom2 on 7/24/07

You are indecisive and wish to do Gods will. I would resort to reading the Bible and lining my decision up with the Word of God. The Bible says to submit to your husband in all things. You say that he has made his idea clear and he probably has your best interest at heart. I would follow his advice and do Gods will through following the Word of God. Blessings

"GOD WILL ANSWER YOU IF YOU PRAY THE SCRIPTURES on GUIDANCE BACK TO HIM!!!!
---Anonymous on 7/24/07 "

Donna, that's word faith, and it's not necessarily so. Because you have a notebook full of Scriptures that you read back to God, more or less making demands that He answers it the way you want to, is not the way it happens. He decides and all the quoting in the world will not force His hand.
---DePuTy on 7/24/07

If it were so, all of your prayers would have been answered for all of the situations that you have been in and out of. Quoting scriptures does not make it happen. You cannot tell God how to answer your prayers, it doesn't work that way.
---DePuTy on 7/24/07

If you are truly saved been chosen and there is [no other way], if you feel as if you are not receiving an answer from God, go ahead and take some steps. Always pay attention to what is going on inside of you, that is a good indication.
---catherine on 7/24/07

I'd assess the situation. Is your husband wanting you to move on into something that is more beneficial to you, and your family, or would it add stress and strife to your life? Is your current job adding stress and strife to your life, or do you enjoy it? I'm of the belief that when it comes to jobs, go with what makes sense and is conducive (sp?) to your lifestyle. What do you value in a job? What do you need from a job? Etc., etc.

tom2 you say: "Gods has little interest in what you do for a living" If that is true, then how come EVERY HAIR on our head is numbered? How come He said I will counsel you with my eye upon you. He said He has inscribed us in the palm of His hand and He is intimately acquainted with ALL of our ways. So how can you say what you are saying is true?
---Anonymous on 7/24/07

I am having the same problem, where my family wants me to be at a certain job, but I feel God does not want me there. I have been praying that God will show me what job He wants me at, and that He would give me that job, and plant me in that job. Don't be a people pleaser, be a God pleaser.
---Leslie on 7/24/07

melissa, go to God in prayer and pray His word. "Father, you said you would counsel me with your eye upon me, so what should I do Lord?" Then repeat back to him, "You are the Lord my God who teaches me to propfit, who leads me in the way in which I should go," Lord, where should I go?
GOD WILL ANSWER YOU IF YOU PRAY THE SCRIPTURES on GUIDANCE BACK TO HIM!!!!
