Jack is this statement right concerning the sacraments? "The Greek Eastern Orthodox Religion teaches that performing the seven sacraments are absolutely essential to go to heaven. This is the same damnable heresy which Roman Catholicism teaches."

.helen, you are misapplying scripture, I already told whom the "we" is in Isaiah 64:6. They are the same "we" as in the immediately previous verse, Isaiah 64:5, lit.Hb: "You meet him who rejoices and works righteousness, they remembered you in your ways: Note you are angry because we sinned, in them unfinishing, and we will be saved." For the truth, you need to keep verses in the right context. Please Read- Isaiah 64:5-12+ 65:1-3,11-16.

.helen, Faith without works is filthy rags: but good works with faith is whiter than snow. Isaiah was not condemning works of righteousness, but instead he was speaking of the hypocrits. Isaiah does not say that all righteousnesses of the Lord's servants are filthy rags, but instead he says that all the righteousnesses of the evil-doers are as filthy rags.

correction on the Bible references, in reference to whose filthy rags it should be chapter 65 and not 66: Please Read- Isaiah 64:5-12+ 65:1-3,11-18.

(Eloy - "Faith without works is filthy rags.") -- Isaiah 64:6 says "But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags,". That is all the works we do to try and make ourselves acceptable to God, which we cannot do, which is why Jesus died on the Cross for us.

**But they actually don't limit the number bc it involevs good works too**

This is not accurate, as it is GOD Who works THROUGH the mysteries/sacraments, not people.

sacramentals are known among the Orthodox as the Sacred Mysteries
these are Holy Communion, Baptism, Chrismation, Confession, Unction, Matrimony, and Ordination.

But they actually don't limit the number bc it involevs good works too

I think it is importent to watch what these religious systems are teaching so that we a Christians can understand where some of these religious ideaologies are coming from. You can't bring down a stronghold if you don't know where its getting its strength from and how it came to being in the first place.

Watch EWTN tomorrow Morning, between five and six O'clock they will be teaching about the seven sacraments. (Today the Preist just said that the Sacrements were made for Man and not for God. (He gave the example of a relationship between two companions, and how they need the natural to feel the intimacy of each others love).

"And if by grace, then it is no longer by works, if it were, grace would no longer be grace" (Rom. 11:6).

Faith produces the person who desires God and desire to please God. Faith does not produce works - Holiness will show evidence to you by their works, but God is the one working in you. Otherwise you might boast in your own salvation.

all your works are as FILTHY RAGS

hey I didn't say it

The Greek Orthodox Church does NOT teach the 7 Sacraments are required for salvation. If you say otherwise all I can say is tell me which Council proclaimed that and some evidence it was accepted by the entire Church.

** Jack is this statement right concerning the sacraments? "The Greek Eastern Orthodox Religion teaches that performing the seven sacraments are absolutely essential to go to heaven. **

Mima, I don't know how much truth matters to the people here, but I'm not the Jack that said this, nor have I ever said anything similar.

However, I will ask this question: Are sacraments something you DO or something you RECEIVE?

Faith without works is 100% dead.

In Ephesians 2:8 & 9 reads...for by Grace are ye Saved, through Faith and that not of yourselves, It is the gift of God.Not of Works lest any man should boast

Yes, but blog topics should not be addressed to individuals.
This is where we get in trouble - no one can hear the word if it is obscured by our own bias. I understand the emotional reaction to heresy but I find it more honoring to the people I witness to and my Lord to pray first and try to stick to topic. Sorry mima - we agree on almost everything.

How do you expect Jack to answer that? You should have asked
Jack is this statement right concerning the sacraments? "The Greek Eastern Orthodox Religion teaches that performing the seven sacraments are absolutely essential to go to heaven. This is the same as Roman Catholicism teaches."
I would be interested in the factual answer to that
