Repentance means "to turn from your ways". John the Baptist beseeched the people to repent. The Israelites were not obeying Gods law and were heading down the road to hell. They needed to turn to God (repent).

Repentance:
The discerning of the goodness of God that leads you to walk with God until you are transformed.

Godly sorrow works repentance and Godly sorrow is God's sorrow when He knows we are taking a path that will harm us.

It is the goodness of God that leads us to repentance. Repentance is not something we do just when we have missed the mark. We should, in intimacy with the Father, be discerning His goodness and be to the acknowledging of the truth that is in Jesus.

Before we ever see the glory of God, we must see His goodness. When Moses asked to see His glory, God told him, "Hide yourself in the cleft of the rock and I will cause all of my GOODNESS to pass before you." It was then Moses saw the goodness of God. It was on the Mount of Transfiguration that he saw the glory of God. If there is no discerning the goodness of God unto the acknowledging of the truth in Christ, it is not repentance.

sinners prayer is not in the Bible . neither is the prayer taught as any part of salvation . repentance is a step toward salvation and part is changing one's self.

At the time of the Salvation experience, there is the conviction of sin by the Holy Spirit which causes the sinner to be conscious of past sins and gives a desire to remain washed clean. This is a form of repentance but does not mean that the new Christian will not struggle with old ways of behaving. Some people are completly transformed and others need to work on the change step by step. God works differently with individuals.

I think that person has a problem. Repentance is not a changing of the mind. It is the changing of the heart. If all they are doing is changing their mind they have a serious problem.

"Repentace" means to change directions. In the Chistian sense, it means to turn from sin and walk towards God. For the non-Christian or Christian, the meaning is the same - it's walking towards God and leaving sin. (It starts with a change of mind - but is should be seen in the daily "walk" too.)

Repentance has only one meaning (a change of mind)...it doesnt mean we have to add sin to it. We can repent of many things.
Lets not add to the word of God

Repentance is a change of mind brought to your heart by the Holy Spirit through God's word. It causes you to turn from your sins, dead religion and works to trust Christ alone. You must apply this to yourself personally by repenting and recieving the Lord Jesus Christ as your own Savior.

Repentance is much more than saying "I accept Jesus." That is part of it, however, it is also a deep inner conversion away from sin, in addition to turning to Jesus. After all that, it is up to the repentant to receive baptismal regeneration.

"Repentance is turning away from sinning. It is to see the ugliness of your sin, how it killed your Saviour and how it hurts others and yourself. This leads to an abhorrence of the sin instead of a desire to continue in it."

Very well put, robin8683. Walking in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16-18), is the key :) God Bless!

When a person (unbeliever) hears the Gosple and then believes on Jesus after hearing the Gosple, he HAS repented (a change of mind) from unbelief to a believer.

repentance, to perceive afterwards" implying change," to preceive the mind, the seat of moral reflection," to change one's mind or purpose, a change for the better,an amendment, repentance is when you ask for forgivenss from your heart, and you are willing to change.Repenting is to turn away from.

Repentance doesn't take place in the soulish realm, mind.
Repentance is a decison of your spirit.
Take the quiz, Mima.
Salvation takes place in your spirit and so does repentance. The mind will fight with your spirit, (emotions, conflicting thoughts).
It is an act of your will.
We choose to repent, those of us who believe in repentence. I can see that the majority do not.

Repentance must come first and it's not in the mind.
If you lead a person into the sinner's prayer without any acknowledgement of sin, then I would say, it was only lip service.
---Virginia on 8/18/07

Repentance is a superimposed change of mind brought about through a mental recognition and awareness of an error as revealed by the truth concerning it. Prompted by a Godly induced sorrow that convict us, reveals the error and leads us to repentance. The lost are drawn to salvation, convicted of the sin that necessitated the crucifixion of Jesus and empowered to confess that sin and their need of salvation. A man does not choose Jesus through his own decision or force of will, he is chosen.

The main words in the Greek New Testament for repentance are the noun metanoia repentance and the verb metanoeo to repent. These words meant to change one's mind. An English word from the same root is metamorphous. I think transformed into a Christ like mind would be more accurate. This looks forward not backwards.

Hi mima, before a person recieves and accepts Jesus Christ, they first have to see that they are a lost sinner who needs a Savior. They have to understand that they are dead in their tresspasses and sins, and that they are heading for hell. They have to understand that Jesus Christ died for them and that He is willing to save them. Then if they repent with a sincere heart, this would be an act of true repentance.

If that person was a sinner then they got saved. But if that person was a backslider and came back to the Lord, then they've repented. A sinner can't repent over his sins, he must first get borned again then if he/she should fall back into sin, then they must repent. Cause a person can only get saved once.
