1)To Whosoever Has An Ear To Hear?

Be not deceived, there are many people who believe they are Saved Christians from reciting a Salvation Prayer but remain careless with God's Holy Word do to an unchanged heart & still purposefully/willfully/deliberately sin in their daily lives. OSAS is not True the way many preachers & teachers are falsely advocating it in their books & pulpits, but that doesn't make it none the less True.

The Truth of 'Once Sealed Always Sealed' applies to those who have been Born-Again Sealed with the Spirit of Promise by Saving Faith in Christ unto Obedience, Love, Truth, Holiness, Forgiveness & Mercy by God's Loving Grace. Truly turned from the of evil sins.
---Shawn_M.T. on 6/2/09

2)To Whosoever Has An Ear To Hear?

We're able to Love God because He First Loved us and it's only through being Drawn by God's Love into the Charity of Loving our Lord, God with all our Heart, Soul & Mind, that we're able to 'Endure'(persevere) all things :FOR Charity never faileth!!

Do not be deceived, it's not of your own strength but the 'Passion of Christ' which has persevered unto Salvation. All Glory goes to God for supplying all the needs of the Chosen Elect through His Riches & Glory in Christ Jesus : Whose strength is made perfect in God's Children's weakness, enabling us to do all things, 'Persevering' in His Obedience Unto Death. (2Cor.12:9-10)
---Shawn_M.T. on 6/2/09

3)To Whosoever Has An Ear To Hear?

The Body of Christ is a 'Great Team' who humbly & harmoniously works together for Christ sake to Edify the Brethren.

The will of God's Children is that 'His Will Be Done' AMEN. Salvation isn't a 'Reward' but a 'Inheritance' : God's Free Gift to 'Whosoever Ask'(James 4:1-3) to be Born-Again, into the Obedience Unto Death of Christ.

Now shall we sin, being Saved under Grace, God forbid!(Rom.6:15-22) We no longer put our Trust in man made teachings, no matter how nefariously wise, serious or sound it appears. God nor His Elect shall be deceived, because we have a relationship with His indwelling Spirit who Guides, Teaches & keep us in Remembrance of the Truth we're Sealed unto in Christ.

Faith without works, is a faith that is not real. Faith always has evidences that follow. All true born again Christians who have faith will give evidence of that faith through their lives. Yet, even then he could be saved, and we still would not know if it was true, since we don't know the heart, but God. We were made alive unto good works. And the glory goes to God because He is moving in the life of the believer.
---Mark_V. on 9/30/07

#2. It is not the number of times you say please Lord, It is when your heart is contrite that it means anything. A heart not contrite, gives evidence that the person has not been convicted of his sin against Amighty God. Until he feels that conviction he will never be a true believer. He could say it a millions times and it would not matter. The one time he is contrite, (has a change of heart) he will be considered a born again Christian.
---Mark_V. on 9/30/07

What "Coach" said is from the book of James. Faith with out works is dead. It is not a formula, Sinners Prayer + Works = Salvation. Confession is the first step in our walk with the Lord. To many people who have made that long walk up the aisle and said the prayer, then walked out and said, "Whew! Glad I'm good to go..." they never even think about the Messiah for the rest of their life. It is a journey that begins at the foot of the cross and ends in the throne room of the Almighty.
---Rabbi_Dean on 9/26/07

First of all, what is a sinners prayer? If you believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that he died for your sins. And he resurrected. You too can follow Christ example by confessing Christ through baptism (water baptism: emersed). And you confess once. Jesus died one time only. I hope this helped.
---ABBY on 9/25/07

drey.......that is not correct.
---JIM on 9/25/07

I have a problem with people reciting, the so-called sinner's prayer, for salvation. By reciting the so called sinner's prayer, that does not save anyone.

In order for a person to be saved, they must receive the Holy Spirit speaking in tongues as on the day of pentecost.
---drey on 9/25/07

The Bible tells us that our works CANNOT save us (Ephesians 2:8,9, Titus 3:5). Prayer, water baptism, repenting, etc are all works! Even "fatih" is a work (1 Thess 1:3, 2 Thess 1:11). Salvation is God's work alone. Therefore, Christ did ALL the work to save those whom the Father gave Him. See Galatians 2:16, Philippinas 3:9.
---Ed_from_IL on 9/15/07

Romans 10, Salvation begins with the confession of our mouth, beleiving with our soul, what better way than walking the Romans road. Thats a great start. But Christianity is a journey with many ups and downs, tests, and trials, and often days of just not passing the test. But thank God that He is merciful, But blessed is he that overcomes.
---Whisper on 9/11/07

Emcee-FYI - it is not. If i had never been dunked I'd still be saved.
RCC= Jesus + works = salvation

I believe we are saved by grace not by the Church bc where two or more are gathered there He is and thats good enough for me!
---Andrea on 9/11/07

If you feel that change insid of you and have accepted the Lord Jesus as your Saviour and are turning your life over to him at the time of the sinners prayer, then is a great prayer. It is not the prayer that saved you though it is your faith by Gods grace.
---litla on 9/11/07

Missy, You can find out by reading all of Eph. chapters 1 and 2. In it you will find, the condition of man. Lost, following their father Satan, dead spiritually to the things of God, and you will also find that God because of His grace, made us alive to Christ, and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. There was a purpose, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
---Mark_V. on 9/11/07

#2. Missy: "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. That is just one passage that speaks on behalf of Grace. Hundreds of more are written so that everyone will get it, that not works, not been smarter then another, not by living in the USA, or because you are rich, but because of God's grace.
---Mark_V. on 9/11/07

Jack - I thought it would be redundant - and what do you think needs to be done for salvation?

Rom 10:8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, [even] in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach,

Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Jack - its a sinner that prays - do you have a problem with 'sinner's prayer' - everyone has to start somewhere.

Etc.

Andrea, please tell me how confession of the Risen Jesus as Lord is the same thing as the "sinner's prayer".

In other words, you didn't answer my question to give Biblical support for the "sinner's prayer." You merely said what "you think".

Anyone who has ever truly been saved knows that you don't need scriptures to prove anything. Either you have been saved by the Blood or Christ or you have not been saved by the Blood of Christ. Sinse we all merit hell grace [favour] from God He gives us. God chooses whom He pleases. Praise God you have escaped Hell. Most people will not escape Hell.

A sinners prayer is initiated by God the Father. So one time enough. We are saved by grace is true, but unless you depart from iniquity God will disown you.
---catherine on 9/10/07

Andrea:: FYI did you know that Baptism is a one time ONLY sacrament as it iniates you into the family of God & washes away original sin bestowing on you the 3 theological virtues of Faith Hope & charity.so long as you have water poured on your head while saying "I baptise you------In the name of the Father & of the Son & of the Holy spirit"amen+ your desire to be in the service of God.
---Emcee on 9/10/07

missy - why would you ask?
its probably for the same reason you were, unless your really off the wall?????

but its not a prerequisite to salvation if thats what your thinking. Simply a public declaration of faith.
---Andrea on 9/10/07

missy are you UP - your something that stresses 'speaking in tongues'. go ahead i want to hear your theology. So far I'm not impressed with the Cornelius - needed to be Bap with HS.
I see a major difference in people who speak in tongues. I can't put my fimger on it - I have dozens (more) friends - pentecostal, and we all see a big difference. I do not see in scripture where you must speak in tongues but I do see where we are told to (we are not asked).

What say you - this could get interesting

Mark V- You mention grace. We need some Scripture please.

Andrea- Why were you baptized?
---missy on 9/10/07

Mima, John MacArthur is correct, just saying the sinners prayer is not what saves you. God saves you by Grace. When He saves you, He never makes mistakes. You will be obedient, you will be baptized, and you will follow the commandments. Will you be perfect? No. It is not the number of times you say you believe, it is if you have a new heart when you say it, that your faith is real, because faith comes by grace to the new believer. regeneration is done by God.
---Mark_V. on 9/10/07

No Missy, "Grace" is the key. People are saved by God's Grace. You can get baptized a million times, but your works won't save you, only the Grace of God does.
---Mark_V. on 9/10/07

missy - i was baptized three times

2)Assy of God
3)Holy Spirit

Andrea, I sure hope that you got baptized in Jesus name for the remission of sins. Now in Scripture, when they heard the message, they were baptized immediately. Of course it's an absolute MUST so that you may be forgiven. I wouldn't want to wait. Obedience is the key.
---missy on 9/10/07

I would agree with Andrea, a sinner's prayer is a good place to start. Just so long as it does not stop there.
---lorra8574 on 9/9/07

Jack - its a sinner that prays - do you have a problem with 'sinner's prayer' - everyone has to start somewhere.

(I think its more the cry of the heart that Christ answers)

Rom 10:9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Rom 10:10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

I have said a sinner's prayer, and I have prayed the Act of Contrition many times, but these are not what saves me. The salvation experience requires several things.:A sinner,a witness and the Holy Spirit. Once the sinner is completely aware of the salvation design of God and the Holy Spirit is on the scene convicting the sinner of sin, you have the total atmosphere for a Salvation experience. A sinners prayer is appropriate during the experience. J.MacAthur is incorrect when it happens this way.

1) When I got saved, I did not say the sinner's prayer, I did not even know there was one. I just cried out to the Lord.."Jesus if you're real, help me!" while on my bedroom floor, crying my eyes out. And guess what, He heard me, heard the cry of my heart and answered. I had never heard of an "official" prayer. So many people in church DO say the "official" prayer and never show ANY evidence of salvation.
---Holly4jc on 9/8/07

2) God looks at the heart when we cry out for Him, not because we said a pre-canned prayer that we are repeating in a mechanical way. It's all about the heart and our sincerity towards Him.

Rita H>>> You made an excellent point. One that I never would come up with. A Sinners prayer. Thank you.++Bless you.
---catherine on 9/8/07

What we need to refer to is A sinner's prayer not The Sinners' Prayer. The first shows that the prayer is individual to 'a' sinner. The other gives the impression that there is a set prayer that is suitable for 'all' sinners. Sinners are individual people who require individual forgiveness after praying an individual prayer that means something to that individual.
---RitaH on 9/8/07

You MUST obey the gospel. So what's the gospel? It's the death, burial, and resurrection. How can you obey the death? Repentance (that means TURNING from your sin). Burial? Baptism in water in Jesus name for the remission(forgiveness) of sins. Resurrection? By receiving the baptism of the Holy Ghost. On the day of Pentecost, Peter preached, the listeners' hearts were pricked and they asked what they needed to do. Peter told them what to do in Acts 2:38. Read it.
---missy on 9/8/07

Like all whom dis the truth, John MacArthur contradicts what God says. There are dissers whom say that there never was a Moses, and never was a Jesus, and that Christians were never martryd and murdered by Romans, and that the holocaust by the Nazis never happened, etc. How ignorant can people be in the face of evident truth and documented historical facts.

You can say the salvation prayer 1000 times every day of your life and that is not going to get you saved.

John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. I don't see anything about a sinner's prayer.
---denna7667 on 9/7/07

Saying the Sinners Prayer just once is enough when the person is aware that he/she is a sinner, is repentent and accepts Jesus died to take the punishment for sins and can offer forgiveness. A hundred times saying that prayer would not save one who uses it like a superstition. Also, no-one needs to say a particular sinners prayer written by someone else. They can phrase it anyway they like providing they accept their sinfulness and need of Jesus as their Saviour. HE knows the heart and will not be fooled.

Don't worry about John MacArthur. What does the Word of God say? John MacArthur is still a fallable man, and he has his own opinions, and he does not have the final word on the subject, God does. "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" Roman's 10:13

God who does not change has through out history offered grace to ALL who would repent.
I understand predestination but it has been argued by far greater minds then that are on here.

If you heard the message of the gospel on a plane to nowhere and while in nowhere you cried out to God (in your heart) knowing nothing about the Bible would God be able to impute His Spirit into your being and even if your theology was lousy - do you THINK God would be able to manage around all the rhetoric.

I was an atheist - i said the sinners prayer bc I was challenged to I wanted God but I did not want church - well guess what God got a hold of me - the second I asked Him into my heart.

My Jesus died for everyone, not just a few. Many people pray the sinners prayer for fire insurance -- without repentance. They arent saved. Matt7:19-21 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

It is confessing Jesus as Lord & believing in your heart that God raised Him from the dead.(Romans 10:9)

Philippians 2:12 is talking about working out not for salvation.

You can't work out something you don't have. So this is talking about a person after they do Romans 10:9-10.
---Rickey on 8/22/07

Neither is your work. It is your faith in action. We are saved by grace through faith.(Ephesians 2:8-9)

Salvation, just like anything else that God has promised, requires your faith.

Rickey, which is it?

Confess it with my mouth and believe, believe it and pray it, or work it out with reverence.

Which one is it, or is it a combination of all? And isn't doing even one of the above MY work?
---Sheila on 8/21/07

I would have to agree with this MacArthur fellow. A person can say a pray all they want but if the spirit of God isn't drawing him in, (no conviction) that person can't get saved. Therefore saying a little prayer isn't enough. If God is convicting that sinner of their sins, all they have to do is call upon God one time and God will hear their cries and save them. But there must be conviction.

John 6:44 says No man can come to me except the Father which hath sent me draw him and I will raise him up in the last day. John 9:31 says Now we know that God heareth not sinners but if any man be a worshipper of God and doeth his will, him he heareth. Meaning if conviction from God doesn't take place, God doesn't hear a sinner repeating a prayer.
---Rebecca_D on 8/21/07

According to scripture it is. Romans 10:9 says, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."

If a person prays this prayer in faith, believing in the finished works of Jesus they shall be saved. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

The bible does say that we are to work out our salvation w/ fear(reverence). That makes it plain that we have salvation & are to cultivate it.(Philippians 2:12)
---Rickey on 8/21/07

I stopped and read some of JMs writing - he is the typical 'frozen chosen'.

I can judge anybody elses heart, but just saying the sinners prayer one time was enough to save me. I believe it all comes down to whether or not God is providing the increase. Greetings mima, Salvation means to effect successfully the full delivery of someone from danger.Jesus Christ is our source of Salvation. He is able to save, and He is willing to save. Repentance is a turning from sin, and Faith is a turning to Christ. Christ was our substitute on the Cross of Calvary. Our sin debt has been Paid in Full by Jesus Christ. Regeneration is a process whereby God through a second birth imparts to the believing sinner a new nature. Salvation is simple, not complicated.
---Cynthia on 8/20/07

The moment a person says the sinner's prayer fromt the heart, the person is saved, as long as he/she is not holding any person in unforgiveness. Maintaining that salvation is a different issue, and that's where works of repentance and spiritual growth comes in. And the person will need the power of the Holy Spirit released at salvation for that.
---OK on 8/20/07

One sinner's prayer isn't enough. Because salvation is something that needs to continue to be put to practice. That's why Paul said "I die daily." And if you prayerfully and sincerely "die daily" you won't fall away as those sown aomong the stones and thorns in the Sower parable.
---Debby on 8/20/07

Saying the prayer of salvation (asking Jesus to come into your heart, and be your Lord and Savior) is NOT enough for salvation. This is only the first step. The next step is to repent of your sin. Repent means to turn away from sin and change your heart, mind, and actions. It's NOT enough just to say "I'm sorry", you need to change your actions.

The sinner's prayer never saved anyone. Jesus did.

I choose to go by the Word:

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in thine heart (Holy Spirit conviction)that God has raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
---Linda on 8/20/07

It is extremely foolish of anyone who would seek to act as judge of someone's heart. All any born again believer needs is another "wonder if it really happened" question added to the mixture. Did you call? Do you believe? Did you confess? Then take God at His word and stop shortcircuiting the work of God with doubt. If God were not completely able to keep us and grow us up, then perhaps in mercy He should take us out of here before we had the opportunity to sin. Have the faith of God.
---Linda on 8/20/07

Without knowing how you're presenting the prayer, I don't know the amount of success that you've had. How would any of of us really know anyway?
We aren't there.
Do you write the numbers and names down in a book?
Because only God knows if their names are in the Lamb's Book of Life.

Most people aren't paying that close of attention, live in a fast pace, trying to make a living, keep their heads literally above water and survive.

So go ahead and pat yourself on the back for making the effort to win souls.

With your "in your face" style, some encounters may be saying only the words so that you'll move on. But even those have had a seed planted.

In this instance I would concur with John MacArthur's opinion. saying a sinners prayer will never save anyone irrespective how many time it my be uttered by an individual or in prayer in behalf of salvation for others.

Only God can initiates the transaction for salvation and offers Grace only to those who are among His Preordained Elect. If you are not in that subset there is nothing that can be done to change an individual's status. We don't know who is who so we must continue to evangelize.
---Phil_the_Elder on 8/20/07

It does not matter how many times you say it. That prayer does nothing for your salvation. I had this conversation many times. A person can accpet God and say the prayer. They can also reject God and the prayer becomes meaningless. You are not saved untill you pass from this world. I worry about all these people who claim "Oh I'm saved". No, you are a sinner that hopes to be saved. That requries faith and obedience. Who are we to delcare ourself saved? It is God that reserves that right.
