Andrea...Next time they knock on your door, ask them.
---Susie on 5/4/08

During my brief stint with the JWs, I met a small number of people who were genuinely saintly (and I'm speaking of the "so holy their face glowed" type - the kind of people that inspired halos in art down through the centures), and a large number of people who were mechanically going through ritualistic motions, and a wide variety inbetween. There will be wheat and chaff in every church - we have to wait until the final Harvest until they get sorted out.

what do they say if you ask them "what if the 144,ooo have already lived and died?" There are too many people in the world so how do they feel about that?
---litla on 9/5/07

I would not pledge allegiance either in this country the way things are going! Neither do I vote because no matter whom I voted for they are not God & he is the one I serve & I'm not a Jw, I'm a church of christ member, but as for holidays except for halloween I thank God for family time when other members are able to get off work without paying the price later.
---candice on 9/5/07

thank you Mark - I was LDS for awhile and had a tiny bit of teaching with the JW too. It has taught me about what the church of Jesus Christ is. He that counts every hair on my head knows where all His people are and He can use them where they are.

He also knows that we are human we exogesis and isogesis a cereal box to get a new personal revelation. Its a human thing.

I try to be a patient with myself and others as He is with me.
be blessed.

Andrea: (1):

John 1:3 (KJV)
"All things were made by him, and without him was not any thing made that was made."
John 1:3 (NWT)
"All things came into existence through him, and apart from him not even one thing came into existence."

Interesting. When I was reading this (1974) I remember NWT saying
"All [other] things ..."

A web search shows that this was also in the 1984 edition.
Maybe they changed their Bible because of complaints...
---Mark on 9/5/07

Andrea: (2):

The [other] is still present in their version of Collossians 1:16-17 (NWT):
"16 because by means of him all [other] things were created in the heavens and upon the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, no matter whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All [other] things have been created through him and for him."
"17 Also, he is before all [other] things and by means of him all [other] things were made to exist,"

Yes they can. In fact, I returned to Christianity at age 20 as a result of a JW friend of mine. However, after studying with them for a few months, it became clear that they were just as guilty of twisting scriptures to suit their own theology as all the other Christian groups they were screaming against.

Here goes. Are you ready. Very interesting. Jehovah Witnesses believes you must go out on the streets and proclaim salvation in Johovah in order to gain salvation. They are different from Christians in that they believe Jesus Christ is only one of many gods and that He is a creative being. They translate John 1-1 as "In the beginning was the word....and the word was a god." They use to teach that the world would end in 1914. And that there were only 144 thousand people going to be saved. Cont.
---catherine on 9/5/07

Cont. Jehovah Witnesses>>>When membership went past 144 thousand they said they were meek and would inherit the earth. They believe salvation comes through good works. So they must work continuously, without ever really knowing whether they will be saved. They only give allegiance to Jehovah. They do not pledge allegiance to the flag, They do not vote,They do not serve in armed forces, and they do not hold public office,They do not celebrate holidays or birthdays. And they do not take blood transfusions.

Andrea Marie - I'm not a theologian - I'm a christian - I believe if you call out to Christ He is able to pierce even the hardest heart. Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord.

Unfortunately many cannot accept the simplicity of the true gospel message. It takes faith to know that your heavenly Father is able to save you even if you do not understand His theology. Try it - Sweet Lord - please come into my heart -I want to know you and the fellowship of your sufferings.
---Andrea on 9/4/07

Andrea- I compare the KJV, which is what they used to use. To say the Word is God, means in a general sense, as a characteristic. We are "man", but you and I are women.
Matthew 3, 16-17 "And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water, and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
And lo a voice from heaven saying ,This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased..."
---Andrea_Maria on 9/4/07

1) Yes Andrea Marie...they have their own translation of the bible (the New World Translation) whereas they added and took away scriptures and other words that make all the difference in the world in presenting the true Gospel. These little changes are very deceiptful and as the bible says...a little leaven spoils the whole loaf.
---Holly4jc on 9/4/07

2) Here's an example of one such thing.

Their bible says:

John 1:1 In [the] beginning the Word was, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god.

Ours says:

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD.

Notice theirs says the word was "a" god, god with a little "g". Ours says the Word was God...with a capital "G". Big difference! Jesus wasn't "a god", He IS GOD!
---Holly4jc on 9/4/07

Andrea Marie - you don't go to the devil to hear scripture quoted, although he could teach it to you too.
please do not study with these people they have had a 100 yrs to perfect thier craft.

as imperfect as the Protestant church is it does not deny the diety of Jesus Christ. Cults will say with their lips all the right things but they are blind leading the blind.....on a path to hell.

all cults say they are the special ones - they have the only ticket to heaven
---Andrea on 9/3/07

Mark -
Okay, maybe you can say which scripture you are referring to? Also, who does Jesus pray to? Who does he cry out to when he says, "Father, why have you forsaken me?"
I know they do tend to keep making up dates for Biblical events, and I don't agree with that - I just do think that they can help you to learn the Bible.

RitaH, Yeah I've noticed that. I know people that are Jehovah Witnesses, and they have a big dinner about a week before Thanksgiving and Christmas. Go figure. It is crazy when one sits back and thinks about it.
---Rebecca_D on 9/1/07

Rebecca I understand what you are saying but are you aware that, whilst not celebrating the festivals that many others celebrate, they (when the fuss has died down) do exactly the same things - just on a different date? They have streamers, wine, balloons, fancy puddings, mince pies, turkey with all the trimmings, exchange gifts and so on. If you were a fly on their wall when they do this you'd swear it was Christmas Day.
---RitaH on 9/1/07

2. I know a lot of Jehovah's Witnesses (no, I've never been one). . If their employment entails someone having to work Sundays, Christmas or New Year, they'll volunteer so others can have the days off work, but they do it to get double time. I know several who manipulate shifts especially for this reason but they will always ensure that they get the time off work to attend their own meetings.
---RitaH on 9/1/07

When Jesus was born, King Herod issued a decree to kill all the male children 2 years old and under. Jesus was not a baby, but was already born. The Witnesses also believe that the star that led the 3 astrologers to Jesus was put there by Satan, who controls the world.(Remember how God feels about astrologers?) This was so that the astrologers would go back to Herod as he asked them to, so he could he "worship" the new king also. But, they were warned in a dream not to return.

The JW's have their own theology, and they alter the scripture to suit it. In John they says "by him all [other] things were made". The word "other" is NOT anywhere in the Greek, nor is it implied by Greek grammar. But it IS necessary for their theology, because they believe Jesus was a created being - so since he could not have created himself, they NEED the word "other" there - so they added it, and in several other places too.
---Mark on 9/1/07

The JW's are always prophesying this or that - they kept prophesying the imminent return of Jesus time and time again, and it kept not happening. So in 1914, they put a spin on it saying that Jesus returned, just invisibly. Which contradicts the scripture that says that EVERY eye shall see him, like lightining that cross from one side of the sky to the other.
---Mark on 9/1/07

Thanks for the advise Susie I'm sure you mean it in the kindest possible way.
My theology includes striving for the lost and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Even if it is not always to or in the way I would like it.
Jesus Christ died for them - what I do is a very small thing.
---Andrea on 8/31/07

Yes most holidays were pagan orgies that the church took and turned into Christian holidays. I didn't like it when I found out but if you consider they were sacrificing the children to the fire god. Its not such a bad idea.

I can understand the Jehovah Witnesses beliefs. They do not believe in celebrating any holidays. But they are all pagon holidays. No one knows when Jesus was born, we don't know if it was in December 25th. Man made that up and so we celebrate that day.
---Rebecca_D on 8/31/07

The JW's theology is basically one that does not accept the trinity, and maintains that Jesus and His father,(Jehovah) are separate entities. They do not celebrate holidays, except Mother's or Father's day, because they are of a pagan origin. They believe that (Ex. Abram to Abraham) that Jesus in Heaven is the archangel, Michael They believe that Satan was cast to the earth in 1914 because of all the wars since then. I find what they say very accurate, they do base all they say with the Bible.
---Andrea_Maria on 8/31/07

When JW's come to my door, I turn to my husband and say, "It's for you honey!" I agree with RitaH regarding listening to JW's and what they believe. Unless you are a strong, Bible-educated Christian you may get caught up in their trap. Since Andrea admits that her "doctrine is squirrly", maybe she should not be someone who listens to their teachings. Better that she go to a Bible-based church which teaches about Jesus.
---Susie on 8/31/07

I stand outside and share my testimony - try to let them share theirs. I'm a pretty strong personality - I want to KNOW if they have asked Jesus Christ into their hearts - I'm planning a big change in the way I present this message to them. Thats why I wanted some input into their beliefs. But the gospel is the same for atheists and JWs.
I know who Christ is - even if my doctrine is squirrly. thanks for your concern its good blessed

Andrea, I would suggest that you take Susie's advice only if you know your bible extremely well and will use the occasion to show them the truth by witnessing. Once you show an interest in their beliefs they will never leave you alone. However, if you challenge them (politely but firmly) they will enter you in a book stating 'not to be visited for some time' or something similar. They will be hoping that next time someone else will be living at your address.
---RitaH on 8/31/07

Greetings Andrea, in my neighborhood we have jw's next door, across the street and down the street. Our next door neighbors are wonderful neighbors, but we have tried to share the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with them. There "religion" is founded by a man, they believe that Jesus is already here and they do not believe in hell but that when you die you are anialated(hope I spelled that right)! I pray that their eyes are opened to the truth of the word of God.
