I have been saved for over 21 years now. I believed in the traditional view of hell for all that time. After much research, I know annihilationism is absolutely scriptural. I looked at all the texts that speak of the fate of the unsaved, I see that their fate is complete destruction (the second death), not life or eternal existence there. (Matt 10:28, Rev. 20:15, Phil 3:19, Rom 6:23, James 4:12.) The wages of sin is death, not eternal torment!
---doug on 10/10/07

Destruction is indeed their just punishment. It is capital punishment forever, while the righteous inherit life forever. Yes, hell is eternal (for the devil), but unbelievers perish there (John 3:16) they are destroyed (Matt 10:28). This is what is called the conditionalist view. The lost are absolutely not immortal. The only people who gain immortality are those who fulfill the condition in scripture, faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Must read Romans 2:7, 1 Cor 15:53.
---doug on 10/10/07

Why do we need to seek immortality (Rom 2:7) if all have it? They obviously dont! That means most will die and not live forever! (John 6:51) Believers are the only ones who get immortality at the resurrection. (2 Timothy 1:10) All others are destroyed in hell after the judgment. (Matt 10:28, Rev. 20:14-15) There are many, many more scriptures to show this is the biblical view of the lost. For more information today, do a web search on Conditional Immortality.

.linda, you will believe whatever you desire.
Poster, the reason there is a hell, is because sinners whom refuse to repent must be thrown into it, otherewise if God would let these sinful dissing ones into heaven then heaven would no longer be heaven, but instead our glorious heaven would become a horrible hell.
---Eloy on 9/30/07

Eloy, I won't argue with you. Naturally, hell becomes a metaphor only when it fits your theology. David obviously did make his bed in hell when he did what he did with Bathsheba and her husband. However, he knew he had not been forsaken. For some reason, that all seems very simple and plain to me without using a bunch of metaphors and symbolism.
---Linda on 9/30/07

The mind, just like Eve, can be deceived from the simplicity that is in Christ. When explanations get too complicated and start going off into metaphors, my spiritual warning flag goes up. I do believe the Bible is full of symbolism in the form of God's prophetic language using the things He created that man can see and understand. Even still, I don't believe it is as complicated as your explanation of hell being cast into the lake of fire. Be blessed in your estimation of what you believe.
---Linda on 9/30/07

.linda, The poster asks, why hell if God is love? And you posted, "If I make my bed in hell, behold, God is there". You misconstrued hell, meaning condemnation and eternal separtion from God as posted, with the wrong definition of implying that God is in hell with the souls he cast there, rather than in heaven. The verse correctly means that God is able to save a person living in hell in this life if they turn to him for salvation, and it does not mean as you have posted, that God is in hell.
---Eloy on 9/30/07

.linda, "DEPART FROM ME, ALL YOU CURSED, INTO EVERLASTING FIRE" So indeed you have wrongly implied that God abides in hell where he casts the sinners eternally separated from his presence, rather than in heaven. And in your wrong context again, For hell being thrown into hell fire, that is a metaphor, just as when Jesus said "the Kingdom of God is come upon you" when he spoke of himself. And as people can themselves be full of hell, so too they will be thrown into hell.
---Eloy on 9/30/07

.linda, twice here you have indeed taken the word hell out of its context and misapplied it. So re-evaluation is unnecessary for your evident error of indeed taking words out of context.
---Eloy on 9/30/07

Eloy, you took what I said out of context. I didn't say that God's throne or His kingdom were the lake of fire called hell. By the way, have you read in Revelation that death and HELL are cast into the lake of fire? If hell is cast into the lake of fire, then hell is not the lake of fire as you say. Perhaps a re-evaluation of who is out of context here is needed.
---Linda on 9/29/07

.linda, You are taking verses out of context and thereby corrupt the truth. God is omnipresent, and can be called upon no matter where you are, but God's throne and God's kingdom is heaven and it is not the lake of fire called hell which he himself has made for the damned.

Duane :: Thank you I already explained that
---Emcee on 9/28/07

Those who fail to honor God as Creator end up dishonoring themselves. Those who fail to acknowledge God and retain that knowledge end up doing and approving of those who do things that are against Him. And those who worship the created instead of the Creator, thus perverting the natural state, end up doing that which is unnatural. In every case, there is a revelation of God, a perversion of the truth, and a giving over to self-judgment. Still, the grace of God can reach them.
---Linda on 9/28/07

Even if they make their beds in hell, behold, God is there.
---Linda on 9/28/07

I said its THROUGH faith alone we are saved.
Its BY grace through faith not of works least anyone should boast.
You should read close as there are truths here you should understand so u can be set free.
---duane on 9/28/07

sue, I know of some people whom choose hell over heaven. Many wrongly think that hell will be one big wild drunkin' and fornicatin' party where everybody will be gettin' high and havin' fun for all eternity. And many of them have hate and grudges against God their Maker and so they poorly choose to go to hell rather then heaven where he is.

Moderator: I don't really think these people CHOOSE hell over God. I beleive that they just cant bring themselves to believe in a God at all. sad, but true. Because who in their rigtht mind would rather go to hell than heaven?
---sue on 9/27/07

Duane:: I do not understand you as you are rambling and incoherent.what ever you are trying to say you keep repeating yourself this does not make for interesting & expressive dialogue.BTW You are saved by Gods Grace not your faith alone as you say.Actions speak louder than words.Faith is necessary but you cannot make a cake with Flour alone its like Salvation.
---Emcee on 9/27/07

It is man's refusal of God that sends them to hell, and not God's refusal of man. For God already proved that he loves his mankind whom he created by coming down and putting on flesh as a man and taking peoples infirmities and sins and being killed in their place for them. People refuse God and choose sin over God, therefore blameless God will not allow anyone refusing him into his holy heaven.
---Eloy on 9/27/07

Yes, we all do sinful deeds at times because the flesh is not perfect and never will be. Thats why Christ had to come and take sin away.(for the wages of sin is death).. Sin is not counted against us anymore. We are set free from sin, dead to sin.
We now have a new life(born again)
We are saved through faith alone.
Love begets faith, faith begets all good works.

It's like if you have a loving Mom who is wise and can help you find out how to live. If you say * & %v you, and you just go your own way, your life will be hell...even while she is so loving you and unconditionally forgiving.

Unless you are loving and forgiving like God, you will miss out on intimately AND sweetly sharing with Him as your Father and He will be only a theory to you.
---Bill_bila5659 on 9/26/07

Duane:: I think you missed the point.True Jesus died for our sins & opened the gates of Heaven. But by you saying Sin is removed totally puts a different complex on your statement. It means we cannot sin any more there for I say this is incorrect. because people still sin by the flesh In thought word and deed.this denial results in loss of salvation.Would you AGREE OR DO YOU STILL INSIST WE ARE SAVED BY FAITH ALONE???
---Emcee on 9/26/07

Where did Jesus take sin too?
Jesus took sin upon HIMSELF...HE became sin for us. He is the sin bearer. He died for the forgiveness of sin. Its finished..
Yes, HE took sin away so we could have eternal life.
---duane on 9/26/07

If you believe you will sin no matter what, you limit God's power. Actually, you claim the sinful nature is more powerful then God. You claim Almighty God can't do anything to help you stay clear of sin. You reject "For with God all things are possible." You claim the sinful nature is more powerful then God.

Duane::Think of what you say"Jesus had to take sin away so that we may have life"Where did he take it to ?that your flesh as you say repeatedly keeps offending?if He took it away. where do you find sin.God would not touch sin with a 50 foot pole, but Satan & his followers embrace it, are you for God Or satan by your statement. There is nothing that is impossible, ask anyone who has set out to achieve His Or Her Goal. What is your GoalHeaven Or Hell!!!!

So, the "provision" is that we are sorry and don't repeat it? I thought the provision was the death of Christ on the cross and His subsequent resurrection. To my understanding, that is the only provision. God forbid that I should glory save in the cross of my Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the whole world is crucified to me and I to the world.
---Linda on 9/25/07

They that be Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and lusts. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof. Why not make a provision? Because He already did. Believing what He has already done really is a powerful thing and the very essence of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
---Linda on 9/25/07

If we never repeated sin, then we would be perfect. The flesh will always sin, even if we live to 100. Thats why Jesus had to take sin away, so we can have life.

Duane:: One important point you left out "he forgives us all PROVIDED we are sorry & will not repeat"
---Emcee on 9/25/07

While we were still sinners/enemies, HE forgave us all. This is the love of God.

Mima::Sin is the cause of mans damination.Jesus's Death was 2 fold, 1 to open the gates of Heaven closed by mans sin.2 God as Man in flesh with the instructions "Follow me"Men who persist in sin deny God,land up in HELL That is why the Church says 'a mans salvation is how he lives his life steering to perfection. We are made in His image and likeness The theory of Faith alone, is a ploy,by Satan, so that man continues to sinand we Know "Nothing defiled enters Heaven"
---Emcee on 9/25/07

Is this correct?," man continually committing sin sends himself to hell" if Jesus paid for all sin on the cross how can sin sent man to hell?

Not everyone is forgiven by God. God loves every single person dead or alive. That will never change. He hates the sin that one choses to live in. God created hell for Satan and his demons. He didn't create it for mankind. But if anyone takes the mark of the best hell is where they'll be.
---Rebecca_D on 9/24/07

Hell was actually created for satan and his demons. The reason that people go to hell, is because they choose to reject God's only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. God paid the price to redeem us, to save us by the precious blood of Christ. Many times you see the word FREE such as in ads, on TV, etc. The gift of eternal life through Christ is absolutely FREE. All you have to do is believe and recieve, trust and obey.
---Cynthia on 9/24/07

God is only forgiving to those who are repentant. Hell, He created, because, He is a Holy and a Just God who hates sin.
---catherine on 9/24/07

Many people go through life saying that they do not want God in their lives. When their life here ends and they meet God at the Judgement He will then have the right to say to them that He does not want them with Him (and why should they want Him then anyway?) Eternity without Him will be hell.

Total forgiveness was granted when Jesus went to the cross. Not a covering, not a partial forgiveness but total complete forgiveness has been given to all mankind.(He paid for all sin did he not) but most people will go to hell because they refuse to receive or(accept) what the Lord Jesus Christ has openly gave them. -- It's impossible for a person to give you a gift if you refuse to receive(Accept or take) it.
---Mima on 9/24/07

God IS a forgiving God, but, not too the point of forgetting the sins of any who reject His dear Son whom He sent to die and pay the sin debt for. His righteousness and holiness will not allow people to go unpunished who will reject His greatest gift. You either go to heaven through Jesus Christ, or you go to hell forever!
---tommy3007 on 9/24/07

There is hell for the devil, his name is satan. God did not intend for anyone to go to hell, man continually committing sin sends himself to hell, it's man's choice. "Today I set before you death and life, CHOOSE LIFE." But people don't. "The wages of sin is death." God gives us enough warnings in His word NOT to sin. So why does man still continue to live in sin?
