Leon, I believe the Bible, what I am asking is whether the Bible is God's work or man's work. Or can we put this way, Is the Bible Word of God or contains the words of God?
---ryan3888 on 10/18/07

The whole Bible is God's work. Pay attention! The Old and the New. In order to understand the new you must have some strong basic understanding of the Old Testament. Those Holy men of God were only His instuments in which God used. They were inspired by the Person of the Holy Spirit. It doesn't matter about the translations as long as you have the Person of the Holy Spirit and good Bible commentaries, dictionaries.

Alexia)Hi. Well you turn on your computer and log into Christianet for a reason. I pray it is because inside, you realize that God loves you and those who know Him Love you too. We do express different ideas here. Some do not have love but most do. Please know that you are loved by me and God and I say that sincerly.:)I understand what u mean too:)But your eye is dark because you have been hurt. Let God heal you and begin to love:)

Ryan_H: If "mere men" say the Bible isn't God's work (written inspiration) then we shouldn't believe anything it says? If the Bible isn't God's word/truth, then how can we know His will for our lives? If we reject the Bible, there's no gospel -- no such a thing as God's saving grace by His Son Jesus Christ -- no Christianity.

I hope you can see the hopeless sinkhole (pit) that would put us all in. To believe in God is to really believe His Bible. That's His way & there's no other!
---Leon on 10/15/07

all inspiration comes from God.he has given us his word so we might grow in our faith.this creation which includes us is his handywork.our work is to BELIEVE.
---tom2 on 10/15/07

inspiration, comes from God,as does love, faith, hope, humility, kindness, selfleshness,we live in a universe,on a planet that id Gods work, and we are his work,we write, think, talk, have our being because he gives it too us.
---tom2 on 10/14/07

I don't know about you, but most of the Bible doesn't seem like something to be put in a love letter. You've got to be realistic about it. The whole Bible wasn't intended for us, but the truths revealed in it are. You've got to understand what is being said and who it is being said to, in the context that it was said.
---Adam on 10/11/07

I remember times I read the Bible and put it down with fear and dread, and then I had a good teacher and I learned that if I read it with fear - I'd see fear if I read it like a love letter it was....then I understood....the letter kills and the spirit gives life.

Of course it is by faith that we must believe that God's Word is inspired. I was saying that Christians who use Scripture to prove the validity of Scripture, are ignorant. There are the ways that I mentioned, which have to be taken by faith anyway.
---Adam on 10/11/07

Scripture interprets Scripture.
Old Testament and New Testament, balanced in every way.

---Michelle on 10/11/07

Well, everyone knows the related scriptures. The word is God breathed, alive, sharper than a two edged sword piercing even to the marrow of the bone, never returning null and void, never passing away when all else is gone. Inspired? Jesus IS THE WORD. In the beginning was the WORD and the WORD was with God and the WORD was God. Meditate on all of that:)
---splaa6685 on 10/11/07

We must be very careful not to worship the bible. People have more faith in it than they do God. Did God write it? Alot of it is inspired but man has a way of messing with Gods work. Thats why we have the Holy Spirit to teach us.
The bible is great but lets not put it up there with God.

2Timothy 3:16

Bible is God's Breath
---Leah on 10/11/07

When I read the bible it comes alive - it ministers to me and always illuminates my path. There is a symmetry that speaks of one heart and mind as author. It is absolutely inspired and any God fearing, God loving person can attest to that.
But without the spirit it can not be understood its as if there is a veil over their eyes
---Andrea on 10/10/07

To believe that the scriptures are the word of God, and that they are the inspired word of God one must believe based upon faith. One must have faith in God that he will preserve his word.

If you do not believe that the scriptures are the word of God then I can't help you, only God can.

1co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

God Breathed! Yes, Willow!
Unerring in matters necessary to faith and salvation. Yes, Alexia, and more...
My dad used to say, "The Bible is 100%written by mankind and 100% by God." I know, impossible, but true. Ryan, you're asking a question that you already know the answer to. It is a matter of Faith.
---bartel on 10/10/07

It is only by faith we believe that God's word is perfect and true. Our only basis of holding the truth of the Bible is because we believe the Bible teaches it. If however we believe that the Bible is historical and scientifically errant then we cannot prove it is perfect, we cannot then continue to hold on that the Bible teaches the truth. Anyway, thats how faith works, we strongly believe on the things that we cannot see/we can hardly explain by reason. That's why only faith can lead us to salvation.
---ryan3888 on 10/10/07

You cannot use Scripture to prove that Scripture is true. It isn't logical, it's circular reasoning. I could write my own book and state within that it is inspired by God, even though it is not. It is the truths of the Scripture practiced out in the life of the believer (guided by the Holy Spirit) that is the greatest witness to the validity and inspiration of Scripture. Also, there are many other factors, such as prophecies given in scripture that have come to pass.

yes Jim I know you believe that...Can you prove it?
---alexia on 10/10/07

alexia.....scripture is perfect in that it is God-Breathed.God is perfect, thus if it is from God it is perfect.

There will be those who will not believe the Word of God through any source at this time.
When they see events described in the Word move into full swing, they may end up turning to Jesus Christ.
Scriptures say that the Lord will send repeated warnings until the day there is no longer a remedy. There is still time for the remedy, Jesus Christ.
God's Word is from His heart. There is an urgency to seek God's face through His Word.

---Michelle on 10/10/07

would that one of you could prove that the bible is God's perfect word..But alas you cannot, so I guess its your OPINION again.

I think Michelle, this passage was again wrongly taken out from its context (a dilemma which most of Bible readers fall into). This passage is about Gods covenant to Solomon and the Southern Israel that if they (the Israelites who have turned their face from God) would return to God, God will restore them. And this passage is not the pertaining to the Church as you have pointed out. Better say, God will remove his judgment upon nation, when they will seek him and repent from their wicked ways.
---ryan3888 on 10/9/07

If we love the Word of God, we will carefully obey.

If My people who are called by My Name, shall humble themselves and pray, seek My face, turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land. II Chron 7:14

He's not talking to the sinner here, but to His own. The Church has the cure for our land, it's the Word of God.

---Michelle on 10/9/07

Theres no problem with me believing that the scripture is God's breathed, however, I cannot convinced my self to believe that the different versions of the Bible are inspired since there are lot of variations. And translations were effected by different biases from Bible Scholars/translators (see watchtower). Which version is inspired and faithful to the original text when translators/scholars can twist the original meaning of the text in order to fit in to what they believe? What do you think?

excellent post ryan. There is no consistency in how people treat scripture even among our fundie brethren. They are literalists when it suits them and not when it suits them. The Church has given a pretty good definition which I find extremely useful. It is unerring in matters necessary to faith and salvation, period.

the Bible is GOD breathed! lets take this test open you bible to matthew 6:15 what does it say about forgiveness! have you ever read these words from men?
now go read some self-help book page 27. go back and read matthew 6:15. you let you spirit decide.

Absolutey Gods word, given thru the power of the Holy Spirit, to and thru man. It is inspired, and was chosen out of many inspired writings, by former Godly men, thru prayer, and is very safe and effective for us today.
---Gayla on 10/8/07

I agree with lora...I think we need to identify and establish what and which one is inspired to be able to come up with common agreement. When we say that the Bible is inspired, whose Bible is inspired? (I mean, whose translation and version will claim to be inspired, yet every translations has its own variations, errors and biases in interpretations.(Can we consider watchtower Bible as inspired when we theres a lot of changes on it compared to the original text?)

I am a former student of catholic ministry. I can tell you the hardest thing for alexia to do is ask GOD for anything, because she has been taught that Jesus is not enough. Look at her posts, she doesnt know Jesus, she knows "Catholic" and that is no hope in Christ there. I pray that the blessed holy spirit works on her heart, I would love to see her that bitternessand hate turned to hope and love for Jesus Christ.

To the confused one) The word is alive, active sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the marrow to the bone..and the word of God never returns null and void..all things shall pass away but the word of God will not pass away. Pastor Larry
---larry9688 on 10/8/07

I trust the Bible and believe it to be inspired. The question is intriguing because different Christians have different views as to what belongs in the Bible. Catholics have a larger canon, but there is a least one Christian group that has an even larger canon. Most Protestants have a shorter canon, and some are considering scrapping the entire canon and reconstructing it. So if the Bible is the inspired Word of God - who gets to decide what goes into it and how?
---lorra8574 on 10/8/07

I ran across this yesterday, "the question is not 'do you trust the bible, but rather, 'what do you trust the bible for'. You all think you are God, telling others what is Truth, yet, as we see here every day, you can't agree with each other half the time.

You need to ask the Lord to heal your heart. If you continue down this path of cynical thinking you will implode on yourself. You heart will begin to seize up like an engine and you will no longer feel Him nor will you desire to.
I will pray for you and I ask that the others here do the same.

NOW from this day foward I will only deal with you with the Pure word of GOD.

2 Timothy 3:16

16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

believe it or not I am praying that you will learn love.
---willow on 10/8/07

Ryan and Alexia,

The bible itself states:
2tim 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2tim 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

Our God also promises that he will preserve his word, and that it will not pass away (Matt 24:35).

Also read 2 Peter 1:21.

Lord bless both of you,

The Bible is the inspired Word of God.
Jesus is the Word.
Psalms 138:2 Honors Word above His Name
John 1:1-14 The beginning, Word made Flesh

Try to fight the good fight of faith without the Word.
The weapons of our warfare are -
Word of God
Name of God, Jesus Christ
Blood of Jesus Christ
The Word of our testimony

The Holy Bible is God's work. God made man, God showed man how to write, God told man what to write, and God told man why his words are being written.
---Eloy on 10/7/07

there is nothing in the bible to go on here. No where within the text does it make this claim, and for obvious reasons. That wouldnt make any argument in any case. I would like to believe its inspired but we have no evidence. At least as to matters of faith.

The bible is God's words. Man may have wrote it down, but God told man what to right. In the book of Revelation, God told John to write this down, Revelation 21:5, but there are things he didn't want him to write. Revelation 10:4.

With regards to to Ryan's question,I think the Bible is both Man's Work and God's Word, in the sense that it is God who revealed His words, and it is mans work because men were used to write the revealed Word of God with the divine superintendence of the Holy Spirit.

The Bible is different men's work under the direction of the Holy Spirit. One of the most interesting things about witnessing is the direction of the Holy Spirit. It is of course possible to see touch or smell but the words that tumble from your lips you will know most assuredly come from the unction of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Jesus!!
