Cell Phones Un-Christian

We as God's people should be wise with what God has blessed us with. Is it wrong for a Christian to have a cell phone? Isn't this a luxury and not a necessity?

Ok Caring I saw the smiley which means I didn't mean to totally blow you off but you did sound like you were against the modern technology

GO WITH JESUS!!!!!!!!!!!
---ANN on 10/12/07

Alan, in my first post I put a smiley but Ann failed to see it.

I drive a car, have a TV, go to McDonalds. I tried to swim from Europe to the US but gave up after 10 minutes so I flew on a plane.

Ann, you're cute.

Cell phones is a gift for my family. We can't afford a home phone so our cell phones are our only outlet. & incase we're out doing things unlike a homephone we can take our phone to go, lol.So yes if used correctly christians can have them.

ANN ... I'm sure Emcee did not mean we should not use those things he mentioned.
He was just pointing out thw absurdity of saying that if something is not in the Bible, we are not to use it
---alan_of_UK on 10/11/07

First of all caring im not catholic and second of all ur right its not in the Bible, but God does allow u to invent things to help get u around faster and keep u safe, look at those at 9/11 and those that were in school shootings!!!
---ANN on 10/11/07

So does that mean Caring ur going to quit driving and being on ur computer? Does this also mean ur going to quit ur job, because by the time u get there u won't have one. I know what my Bible says and I believe it with my whole heart and I trust God and believe God before u.
---ANN on 10/11/07

And one last thing, How many people has been saved while watching tv and those that want to kill themselves been saved while being on the cell phone? Again God already knows what we need and he provides what we need and he knew we needed these things and allowed it to happen.
---ANN on 10/11/07

Ann, and I'm not being insultive - you seem to be in a confused state. Please look for a Catholic Church in your area to be taught the teachings of Christ without making you feel fear.

Stop going to where you're going and find the true source of Bible teachings.
---Caring on 10/11/07

Ann, I did more research in the Bible and cars, airplanes, computers, radios, tv's, fans, McDonalds, Wendy's and many other items are not included.

I found though the donkeys are so from now on, we should use donkeys for transportation so we won't go against the Bible.

But I ask, how are we going to communicate our thoughts? I'll send you a note which will be delivered via a donkey.

Caring God understands if ppl have cell phones, what if u had an accident or one of your family members had an accident or a flat tire in a middle of no where or a dangerous part of town would u want them to be walking to a phone? It can be a useful thing to have.
---ANN on 10/10/07

Why would a cell phone be bad?!? Not too long ago indoor bathrooms were considered a luxury...are THEY bad? Cell phones are a wonderful invention and they have saved many a life.
---sue on 10/10/07

I searched the whole Bible from Genesis to Revelation and have not found one reference to cell-phones so I would say they are un-biblical :))
---Caring on 10/10/07

No its not wrong to have a cell phone, it is a way for family members to get a hold of u in case their in trouble and other ppl need to get a hold of u for prayer or for work. So a cell phone has a good value to it and its bad.
---ANN on 10/9/07

What put the idea into your thinking that cell phones are wrong? There is no Bible verse that will back that up. It's not a luxury if you have a flat tire on an Express Way and need to call for help! Having a cell phone has no sin attached, it's how you use it that might be a sin.
---wivv on 10/9/07

A cell phone is all I have to get on the Internet, and I wrote this comment on, and sent it from my cell. Someone may question my orthodoxy but probably not because of the type of phone I use!
---InimicusStultitiae on 10/6/07

Hi, I agree with I guess everyone here but I'd just like to add that HOW we use them can be sometimes a good (or bad!) witness to the world around us. I've seen my best friend fighting loudly on the phone with her ex-husband, for instance. Or people totally ignoring the person they are with to talk on cells. We just need common sense I think.

Blessings to everyone! I also have a cell phone, but it is only used for times when I am driving alone. I always have it on when I am on the computer too. Yes I do agree with all of you, cell phones are a necessity especially if you are travelling a lot or own your own business. My only complaint about a cell phone is the expense and the contract that you are stuck with unless you have a prepay. I was not trying to offend, I am just a curious woman and wondered what all of you thought. Thanks everyone!
---Cynthia on 10/6/07

Uh no it isn't wrong. If you can afford to pay the monthly bill or pay for the card with pre-pay minutes, then go ahead. Cell phones comes in real handy. When at the store, my son had an accident at school and they couldn't reach me at my home number, so she called my cell phone. To be honest, cell phones are a necessity to have. If your car breaks down, you can call someone for help. If you don't have a cell phone, you will have to walk to a pay phone.
---Rebecca_D on 10/6/07

Cynthia,

Cell phones are convenient.

Do you think Abraham, Solomon, King David, etc. were men of God? Do you think they may have had a few luxuries?

It is not a sin to have luxuries, as long as you do not make them your god. Exo. 20:3. Luxuries are a blessing from God.
---trey on 10/6/07

To have a cell Phone is no more wrong then to have a home phone, or even the computer that you just typed this post on.

Wisdom is highly esteemed by God and man and it is just using wisdom to protect one's self in every way possible. Having a cell phone makes me feel a whole lot easier when I'm in a situation where I need to be in touch with my family. We got Mom,89 years old, one also, and she has broken down in her car a few times and wasn't stranded because of the phone. Praise God for all good gifts, this one brings peace of mind, not luxury, necessity.
---Darlene_1 on 10/6/07

Being a single woman who drives many miles in my job and life, and working three jobs, I do not consider a cell phone a luxury. I have worked and gone to school in many bad neighborhoods and thank God I have a cell phone for when my car breaks down or I get a flat tire. Many people have only a cell phone, and do not have a land line.
---Trish9863 on 10/6/07

We are to be content with food and clothing but it doesn't say that it's wrong to have more. The more you have, the more you can share. If what you have is just for you, that's wrong. All through the Bible God blessed people and nations who served him with prosperity. It's a blessing, be thankful and share what God gives you. Don't work for riches but let riches work for you.
---john on 10/6/07

All I know is that when I have a flat tire in the middle of no where, I am so thankful for my cell phone, Thank God for these wonderful inventions I do not know how we ever did with out them before in the old days.

Where is unchristian to have a few luxuries as long as you follow YHWH's precepts?
---notlaw99 on 10/6/07

I am going to say both. I really enjoy mine. No, it is not wrong to have a cell phone. Thank God, if He gives you one. And by the way, what is wrong with a few luxuries? I like it myself.
---catherine on 10/6/07

Most things are a blessing but the way we use them can be a curse. This would apply not only to cell phones but also to cars, t.vs. and many other luxuries including the internet which allows us to converse with each other. We could all conduct our lives completely without these things but things would get done so much slower and less efficiently.
---RitaH on 10/6/07

Oh-oh...you aren't fooling around, Cynthia. Paul does say, "And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content." (1 Timothy 6:8) And I think we can be in touch with each other by means of the Holy Spirit when we are not with each other. But God "gives us richly all things to enjoy" (in 1 Timothy 6:17), and I think being "all things to all men" (1 Corinthians 9:22) can include using what people's culture use. They can be useful for doing good, away from wired areas.

If you're in a burning building and can't get out, it would be a necessity. If your car quits on a lonely stretch of highway, it's a necessity.
If you're a child locked in a classroom because a shooter is outside the door, it's a necessity.
If you're on a plane, talking with your family, as it's going down, it's a necessity.
