Cindy, Jesus, the Lord of the Sabbath demonstrated true Sabbath keeping-Lk 14:2-04, Mt 12:8-13, Mk 3:1-3. Yet there were sad misapplications-Lk 6:7, 13:14.

James 1:27
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
---Geoff on 10/21/07

We worship God everyday by our obedience to His Holy Spirit. It is a great thing to attend a corporate worship service on saturday or sunday but if a person needs to work to earn a living than so be it. There are some places that have worship services on friday nights or wednesday nights if one wants to join in a group worship. There is no rule however Paul did say to not forsake the assembly. Fellowship and cooperate worship are good for spiritual growth and feed the soul.

I believe that this is a matter between the believer and God. How the believer worships and where and when, is strictly between the believer and God. Most people simply do not know God well enough to advise on such matters. Furthermore, not on many matters or no matters.

Works of mercy, done to help people in time of need, take precedence over works as sacrifice of worship to God, and especially over such laws as the Sabbath, which was given to benefit people by giving them a day of rest. To use this as an excuse to not preach to people nor to help someone in need would be a PERVERSION of the purpose. This would be like seeing a dying man, but saying, "Sorry, I can't help you, because today is the Sabbath and I have to rest." This is evil in the sight of GOD.

So Gordon, if you were in hospital desperately ill on the Sabbath, I take it you would refuse treatment from anyone? And you would let your house burn down, & not call the fire brigade?

No, I do not think it is wrong to work on a Sunday. A Christian should pray about this. We can sometimes get too legalistic. Some churches have church on a Wednesday and/or a Friday evenings too.

Gordon, you grossly misinterpret Scriptures concerning Sabboth teaching to the Church instead of the Jews under the Law. You should be in Church when you can and worship, but you are not under a law to do so. The Sabboth was given to the Jews not the Church. So in your thinking, Doctors, Nurses, police officers, and many other professions could be mentioned, are all in sin if they are Christians and have to work on a Sunday to support their families. What a gross misunderstanding of the Scriptures!

Alan of U.K., That is a GROSS misinterpretation to declare that Jesus (YAHUSHUA) worked on the True Sabbath. He DID do Good Works, as in healings and Miracles. But those were NOT the same as the "9 to 5" work that is forbidden by the Lord GOD for His Saints. BIG difference there.

It is not wrong to work on Sunday but if it interferes with my going to church to worship my Lord, I need to find another job. I try to work 5 days per week. Have Sat and Sun off. Go to church on Sunday. My job has already robbed me of my Wed, which are bible study nights. So I refuse to let satan take my Sundays. We should not put anything above God.

It is good to worship God in a corporate setting be it Saturday or Sunday. Some people are not comfortable with either. Other's need to work in order to support their families. What ever the case, it is between that person and God. There is no set rule under the New Covenant.

I do believe scripture says to worship in spirit and in truth, it does not specify a day to do this.

Cynthia, where in the Bible does it say we shouldn't work on Sunday?

1 Thessalonians 5:21
Prove all things, hold fast that which is good.
---Geoff on 10/10/07

Some people has to work on Sunday's. My husband works on Sunday's. He works the evening shift, so he can go to church on Wednesday's and Sunday School. His shift is 4:00pm-midnight. But alot of times he gets home anywhere between 1:00am-4:00am. (he's a Police Officer) And during the day he has court from where he arrested someone. Some people can't help it if they have to work on Sunday's.

Blessings Paul, I assure you that I am not trying to say that a christian should work on Sun. to have an excuse not to go to Church. If I offended you, than please except my apologies. I am disabled so therefore I do not work because I cannot. I only asked this question to see what others opinions about it were, that's all. Thanks everyone, very good points brought out. God Bless!

Especially if God saids you shouldn't.>>>Prophets are not welcome in the churches. I hate to be in their shoes on judgment day.
---catherine on 10/10/07

There is no Sabbath day we live and breath our sabbath-rest (Jesus) - it is a healthy thing (physically and spiritually) but it is not required.
If you do it as an offering its good too but to do it as an obligation puts it under the law.

Well I go to church on the sabbath, since I am attending a church of God.So Sunday to me is not the Lords day, but to someone else it might be, so we should respect others. For me I wouldn't go out on Saturday to eat or groceryshop etc..this is my day of rest, same applies for my husband whom is Lutheran for Sundays.
---Candice on 10/9/07

I think it is perferable, if you can be in church on Sundays, but, I would certainly not persecute anyone because they didn't or couldn't.
---Gayla on 10/9/07

Let me re-phrase the question, can Pastors/Reverends/Bishops/Priests work on Sunday? Are not these positions paid to work on Sunday along with the musicians and technical people who operate the equipment? No, it is not wrong to work on Sunday. There are necessary positions that require people to be on work on Sunday (firefighters, police, military, etc.). Where I think you leading is this, can an individual work on Sunday, to void attending church, that is wrong.
---Paul on 10/9/07

I work in a psychiatric hospital on alternating weekends. I have no problem working on Sunday because my patients need care 24/7. I am still involved in church.

Worship should not only take place in church.

Romans 12:1 "Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to Godthis is your spiritual[a] act of worship."

Jesus "worked" on the Sabbath ... His work glorified God.
What should we expect of Christian doctors, nurses, ambulance men, firemen, policemen, vetinary surgeons, farmers?
We should not expect them to spend all day in church and leave all "loving your neighbour" to non-Christians.
---alan_of_UK on 10/9/07

Me personally I do, but God understands that if u can't be off on a sunday. I told my employeers that I have to have Sunday's off or work after church services so I could go durring the day or evening services. And it worked out just fine. But now Im a housewife so I don't have to worry anymore.
