Hello, I personally tell you to obey the Spirit of God rather than hearing from many people and looking around at other believers. If has asked you not to, there is lot of meaning in that which you will know once you walk with God

What is wrong with watching movies as long as discernment is used? There are hundreds of stories that have real redeeming social value. What is harmful about Little House on the Prairie or Anne of Green Gables for Pete's sake?

I mean should we ban books too? No Huck Fin? No Treasure Island?

I don't think that all recreation is sinful. We need to be realistic with this stuff.

Our church even uses movie clips as sermon illustrations...That is something sure to draw debates...LOL

when David watched the world it made streams of tears flow from his eyes for Gods Law is not obeyed.Psalm 119:136
when Lot seen and heard the ways of the world it tormented his soul.1 Peter2:8
when Paul seen the idols in Athens he was greatly distressed at the idolatry of the city. Acts 17:16
scriptures tell us not to love the world and give us great warnings if we do. 1 John 2:15, James 4:4.
when we watch the ways of the world in TV we clarly should be sorrowful, tormented and greatly distressed as sin is glorified,Gods Glory is ignored and they don't have life shouldn't this distress us.
The question is do we watch secular TV for the Purpose for entertainment. does that which should bring us to tear bring us laughter.

On the subject of tv-homer Simpsons neighbor, is he a good fundamentalist Christian?
---MikeM on 12/18/07

#1 Christianity is not do this/don't do that but rather God writing his law on one's heart and giving them a new birth where they MUST grow in hating sin and the wicked world. For it is written:

"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world." (I Jn 2:15-16)

#2 And what comes forth from the vast majority of TV shows (I'm not speaking to ALL) that professing Christians imbibe in and get such joy from watching? Lusts of the flesh/eyes and the pride of life. The EXACT things that Christ shed his precious blood to set them FREE from yet they'd rather return to Egyptian bondage and enjoy the leeks and onions that the devil has to offer.
What are these leeks and onions? Fornication, drunkenness, murder, lying, cheating, stealing, queer themes, adultery...

#3 ...anti-family themes picturing wives as tramps, fathers as bafoons w/ children as all wise, mockign God and Jesus Christ MOST of all, w/ the list going on ad infinitum.

My question is, how can the Spirit of God who is ALL Holiness not convict hearts to turn from this filth? Believe me, I was there. I watched and loved the blasphemous Simpson's and Seinfeld reruns a number of years ago but my heart was pricked time and time again as God revealed to me per his Word how anti-Christ these were.

#4 I kicked hard against the pricks but eventually bent my knee to the Lord, repented, and turned the Babylon box off.

I will close in my last post with the Word of the Lord that speaks to those who produce the wicked shows and movies and reveals what their END will be - DEATH, and most important for to those who KNOW these things yet not only do the same things but take pleasure (vicariously through TV) in those that do them.

#5 "And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient, Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness, full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity, whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful
---shaunt on 11/21/07

#6 ...unmerciful Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them." (Rom 1:28-32)

Why on earth not?
Perhaps we should not read newspapers, since they do not deal only in Christian matters. ---alan_of_UK on 11/20/07

But Alen, TV and newspapers are not mentioned in the Bible :))

Aries, you're either making up your story or your brain is not functioning properly to ask such a silly question.

No need to get sarcastic, But we pay good money for our TV sets and satalites. Believers has to put up with so much junk in this world that is caused by the devil. It is true heaven is our home, but while God insists on keeping us here, you would think this world and its people would have some consideration. Unbelievers do not have to please God but we do.Besides all of that, it's because of us true believers, the reason why the world is still standing.

You can see just as much weird stuff walking down the streets of most US cities as you can on TV. Guess we should stop going to town.
---Susie on 11/21/07

Blessings to you Aries, I do not believe that it is wrong to watch TV, but this is where Spiritual discernment comes in. There are so many programs on TV that teach you to be selfish, greedy, and that mock God. My motto is that if something that you are watching, is something that you know you should not be watching, you have the remote control in your hand, so either turn it off, or switch to another channel. God Bless friend!
---Cynthia on 11/21/07

For Adults there is nothing wrong with watching TV some programs an movies are better then others, watch what you enjoy and don't watch the ones you dislike.

Younger children need the use pf parental control options use them and you should not have problems the same procedures apply to children's Internet usage.
---notlaw99 on 11/21/07

I honestly believe that what a person watches or listens to is between them and God. We will not all agree on this matter. If you feel convicted not to watch something on TV then don't, but don't expect everyone else to feel the same.

Paul said "I can do all things but all things are not benficial." Although there may be no real harm in watching secular TV, there isn't anything of benefit to it either. Most people have some extra time on their hands to relax and this is just one of many ways to do it. Some people go shopping, play games or sports, or maybe go for a drive. These things may not be benficial either but don't do any harm. I wouldn't make a big deal about it.
