The fasts that God has put me on, yes they have had results and have helped me. The ones I try to do, by lunchtime I give up. Fasting suppresses your flesh and allows your spirit man to rise up and fellowship with God since God is Spirit and those who worship him must do so in Spirit and in truth. I fast for healing, for answers to prayers to show God how serious I am, and i fast for others to be set free from the sin that keep them bound.

Is this statement,"We have three ways of overcoming our sins: prayer, almsgiving, and fasting." About works ?

When I fast I need God to move right then and now. I don't fast for no reason at all. That is silly. A person should only fast with prayer. Fasting alone can't work. Just as with some prayers alone won't work. Sometimes we need to put legs on our prayers.

The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but, mighty to the pulling down of strongholds. This is the ultimate weapon that Christ has given us to wage warfare with. Against the principalities and powers of the air, the darkness in high places, which is our minds, or those of others.

Many fast to get something but a fast should give something fist. According to Is.58:7, what we save by fasting should be given to the needy. Verse 8 declares our light shall shine and our health shall break forth, righteousness shall go before us and God will be our deliverer.

Isaiah 58:6-8
Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him, and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?
Then shall thy light break forth as the morning....

Mark 9:14-29
Jesus' disciples are perplexed because they could not cast an evil spirit out. Jesus said:
"This kind can come forth by nothing but by prayer and fasting."
There is spiritual warfare going on today, more than ever. We are commanded to be soldiers of Christ, and that means we must go to battle in prayer, and fasting is sometimes the means to keep our strength in God to help us pray in the way that will help the person/situation.

We have three ways of overcoming our sins: prayer, almsgiving, and fasting.

Fasting, if entered into in the proper spirit, leads to a state of inward brokenness and serves as a potent reminder of His words, "Without Me you can do nothing."

Of course, it's also ambiguous, as demons never eat at all. This is why I said, "if enterend into with a proper spirit."

#2:

Another reason we fast is to humble the flesh, which in most of us (even those who post to these blogs) is pretty strong.

I'd fast with joy, because it says to serve the LORD with gladness. And do it open to God for what He desires, not just for some limited thing I can think and seek.

And fasting can take away distractions so whatever really is in us gets freed and stronger, so it's good to make sure the fast is really in the Holy Spirit's leading so we don't multiply something else (o:

Fasting, powerful spiritual discipline of all the Christian disciplines. Through fasting and prayer, the Holy Spirit can transform your life.

Fasting and prayer, seeking God's face not His hand-with a broken, repentant, and contrite spirit, God will hear from heaven and heal our lives, our churches, our communities, our nation and world. Fasting and prayer can bring about revival - a change in the direction of our nation, the nations of earth and the fulfillment of the Great Commission.

Fasting and prayer, God's Word tells us that only by fasting and prayer will some ever receive a deliverance from tormenting and unclean spirits.
