How Long Do Pastors Preach
How long does your pastor/priest preach? Does he use a lot of scripture, or just a few verses? Does he ever preach doctrine, or is it usually on how to deal with the day to day stuff?

It depends on how strong the Holy Ghost is moving. One cannot predict how long a sermon should last or a church service for that matter. If the Holy Ghost is not moving then don't drag out the service. My Pastor uses the bible a great deal. And he will throw some of his past experiences that he thinks might help better understand scripture. Long sermons are not boring if God is moving. |

A lot is dependent on the nature of your church. Do you have multiple services with defined start times if so the sermon is only a portion of a planned worship service. A competent pastor should be able to present a message in 17 - 23 minutes. I know a number of pastors who always run long. Most of them don't write their sermons in advance and try to wing it off the cuff and fail miserably. It is a matter of effective sermon preparation and time discipline. |

Blessings to you brother Trey, my Pastor preaches sometimes on a couple of sciptures, and sometimes he preaches on a whole chapter. My Pastor usually preaches about 34 to45 minutes. I am a notetaker, and he gives a lot of scriptual references on what he is preaching. I believe that everyone should check God's word to see if what is preached lines up with what God says. God Bless friends! |

In our Church, the priest preaches about the gospel of the day for 12 to 15 minutes. Long sermons are boring. |

Our song services are 1 hour followed by a 45 minute sermon that reproves, rebukes and exhorts as brought forth by the Spirit. That is followed by a prayer line in which we still see miracles. The entire service feels too short though compared to how we wait for them all week. All times I listed are approximate. Some go longer. Absolutely no prosperity, lusts of the flesh nor "you are somebody" messages! Just word of God! Frank |

We need some hell and fire type message preachers. Too many are fooling people leading them believe that everyone is going to be saved. We need some Holy Ghost come down here type messages. And you preach till you run-out of breath.+ Or until you have a heart attack and then you go on and be in Jesus' arms. Umm what a way to go. |

My Pastor takes one or two scriptures and preaches an entire message on that. I would rather he teach the word all the way through. |

Our pastor and our visiting preachers usually preach for about 40 minutes. They use a great amount of scripture. We would not want someone in our pulpit who was not scripturally sound. We are not interested in the easy listening - how to have a nice, happy life - sort of sermon. |
