Gluttony is one of the sins of Sodom.

The bible uses gluttony in different ways. In De 21:20 it is using gluttony as a child who not only rebellious by a drunkard. In Pr 28:7 it is using gluttony as a person being riotous men. Heb 12:16-17. Bottom line, gluttony is overindulgence. Over-eating, over-drinking. A person that has 4-5 cars but wants 2-3 more or has a beach house over here and a mansion over there and wants 1-2 more somewhere else. Anything that can be overindulgence is gluttony.

Hi, in my experience, "gluttony" is harder to avoid when I let myself get OVERLY hungry--boy do I make up the difference without meaning to and then some! :D I used to laugh at the advice to not to go the store hungry--well, I don't laugh now. It's really true.

"All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any." (1 Corinthians 6:12)

So, if you are just "under the power of" food to get you to lust for it...this is gluttony. So, Kella, it's not a matter of how much you eat, but a thing of quality...what spirit you are in.

Feeding on unforgiveness so greedily that we imagine wrongs so we can have something to be unforgiving about (o:

Welcoming the pedophile priest publicity so ones could gratify their appetites for self-righteously criticizing instead of first having compassion and hope and forgiveness in prayer for how You, O God, can even cure any Satanic person.

Gratifying our appetite to criticize and look down on overweight people, instead of loving them the same as anybody else.

Scripturally, gluttony doesn't mean a person is overweight. It means a person has poor control over what they are eating. You could be gluttonous for one meal as in Prov.23:1-2. I remember when my brother was young he ate a bucket of ice cream in one sitting and he was a skinny fellow. Overweight doesn't always mean gluttony, it does show that a better management of intake and out go is necessary.

IMHO Gluttony like any "Vice" is an addictionTherefore Pride Covetousness lust anger envy Gluttony & sloth all come under this category.Live clean you shall remain clean.SIN is an addiction, but in the eyes of God it is excuseable. Wilful sin is more dangerous affecting our well being with our creator.

i found the scripture whisper used interesting. it seems from that passage gluttony is tied not just to food but to money as well. i know alot of thin christians that just have to buy the $20 steak dinner every sunday and wensday when they could get a $7 burger or pasta meal.

I believe gluttony refers to eating more than the body needs to be healthy. Eating too much or too little is not good for us. We all know when we had had more than is good for us but, because we like certain things we can become gluttonous. I think that many will be gluttons on December 25th and will spend a few days regretting it. This is so sad when we see the hungry of the world paraded on news reports daily.

Be not among winebibbers, among riotous eaters of flesh: For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty:and drowsiness shall cloth a man with rags.
