There is no such thing as Biblical Prophets today. Everything we needed to know is written in Scripture and Scripture has closed. Anything anyone says that is not in Scripture is not to be held as Truth. To many out there preaching what has already been said by God and written by writers inspired by God. Others are putting their own spin on what is to come. There is no popes who have access to God that another brother or sister don't have. No prophet who knows more then what we have been told already in Scripture. No more new revelations not written in Scripture. All we need and all that is Truth is written already.

Can prophets be wrong?

LET THE BIBLE ANSWER
1Chronicles 17:1 Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remaineth under curtains.

1Chronicles 17:2 Then Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine heart, for God is with thee.

1Chronicles 17:3 And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,

1Chronicles 17:4 Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in:

NATHAN THE PROPHET WAS DEAD WRONG WAS HE NOT.

Prophets are PEOPLE too, some times they get ahead of themselves

Can prophets be wrong?
Prophets sent from Christ are right even as he is right: but prophets not sent from Christ are false prophets and can be wrong.
---Eloy on 11/20/10

This would be you in a mirror. Abomination, follower, promoter and upholder.

No man of GOD ever made excuses for abomination practices. No man of GOD ever upheld abortions of their own kind (Israel)until....until....until eloy the self made profit poofed into being.

GOD put a safety on the Bible dealing with this -----

REVELATION 22:19 FOR I Testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book,IF any man shall add unto these things.GOD shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this Book.
( But when anyone reads from the Bible their prophesying )

1 THESSALONIANS 5:20 Despise not prophesying.
---RICHARD on 11/21/10

Can prophets be wrong? According to God, and I believe Him. "Not suppose to be"! Exactly what He said, "Not suppose to be". Do you do what the Prophets tells you to do. Not unless you are sure that, first, he or she is from God, and you must know God well enough. [assuming you are asking the prophet]. You just stay in prayer, God is really your only ruler. What is our roles today? That's a good question. I've asked God that question before. "OBEY ME".....Hallelujah.
---catherine on 11/20/10

Are there prophets in our time?
Yes.
If so, what are their roles now that we have the indwelling Holy Spirit?
We speak and do exactly that what Christ commands us.
Should we do what they say just because they are called prophets?
There are rewards and consequences measured out for them obeying and disobeying God's sure words.
Can prophets be wrong?
Prophets sent from Christ are right even as he is right: but prophets not sent from Christ are false prophets and can be wrong.
---Eloy on 11/20/10

Yes. God has appointed me to be a prophet to the nations. God expects his prophet to discern and act when he senses something that goes against God's expectations. He may either declare boldly or in a tactful manner but the point seems to be "judging" and passing a clear verdict irrespective of who the offender is. There seem to be special times when God moves in the heart of his chosen vessel. At those times they are moving ahead with God's signet ring and none CAN oppose him. But they are not like angels who cannot err. Nathan 'allowed' David to build the Temple. But God corrected him and asked him to correct his words that David's son would actually build it. God allows even a prophet to learn valuable lessons through errors.

Prophet's are probably the loneliest people you'll never meet. They would have to survive a double life that is near unbearable. Spiritual issues that have never been revealed. Bitter tears in the night and a smile in the day. Getting out the Word of God to Humanity and avoiding the railing's and violence of men and governments who's hearts are set against Christ who profess to be Christians. Not allowing Truth to be soiled in it's delivery or used for fame and fortune.

Dr. Rich, What you're believing is WRONG. I do not need any book to try to persuade me that parts of the Holy Bible are not GOD's Word. Although I believe there ARE other Books that should have been added to the Canonical Scriptures. And I believe the Holy Spirit is FEMALE and that King James, out of male vanity, "changed" the referential pronouns to the Holy Spirit from "She" to "He" and "It" in the New Testament. But, that's ALL.
---Gordon on 2/13/08

Gordon, I answered your questions but I guess they didn't get posted. I wonder why? As for anyone calling the bible the word of God, they are in deep trouble IF anything in it is not! Why? Because they have just called God a liar! For proof, read "THE SPIRIT OF THE CHURCH" by Neufeld and Sterling and I dare anyone to prove it to be false!
---Dr._Rich on 2/12/08

Yes, Elisabeth Sherrie Elijah is one of them. Yes, as long as the Prophet is a TRUE Holy Prophet of GOD, we should heed the Message that GOD sends through them. There not PERFECTLY PERFECT, but they will get the Message and deliver it exactly as GOD intends in obedience. GOD has particular things to say about certain persons and groups and counties and leaders of today. And, He uses His Prophets to relay His Messages to them somehow. See Amos 3:7
---Gordon on 2/12/08

Dr. Rich, Ephesians 4:11-12 are Verses printed in the Written Word of GOD called the Holy Bible. The WHOLE BIBLE is GOD's Word. The Apostles were merely VESSELS that GOD used to write His Word. GOD set up His Prophets. There is NOTHING that your doubts or disagreements can do to change that. "THE WAY" is a cult religion, grouped with the Mormons and the Jehovah Witnesses.
---Gordon on 2/11/08

Based on NT, the Holy Spirit gives many gifts to us Christians such as prophecy, but Paul outlined Love as the greatest gift after rebuking the Gift filled Greco-Romanized Corinth church. We should all seek prophecy over tongues based on Paul's instructions-1 Cor 14 chapter. If we have this gift from Yeshua-Jesus, we'd better be obediant and honest about how we handle it and turn people to God not ourselves-Ephesians 4:11-15.
---yochanon on 12/30/07

Dr._Rich:

It sounds like you are claiming that the Holy Spirit didn't come at Pentecost because "that's not how the Holy Spirit works".

Could you please explain, then, just how the Holy Spirit DOES work, and how you know that the Pentecost experience "wasn't real"?

And just what was wrong with what Peter said about Joel?
---StrongAxe on 12/28/07

Presumptious or false prophecy is not inspired nor condoned by God.
Deuteronomy 13:1-4 , Deuteronomy 18:20-22 , Jeremiah 14:14 .

Many incorrectly consider themselves to occupy the office of ''prophet,'' with the authority ascribed to that office in scripture. Like the ''apostles'' they recognize, most of them speak presumptiously - sharing their own insights, fantasies and other messages not inspired nor condoned by God. In the process, they introduce aberrant and/or heretical teachings.
---Cindy on 12/22/07

Many false prophets use their 'the-Lord-told-me-to-tell-you', 'I'm speaking for God Almighty', 'God told me face to face' approach to hawk their theories.

In the less controversial ''house church'' or ''home church'' movement, those who operate in the office of ''prophet'' generally tend to prophesy in the New Testament sense of the term. Apostles are recognized, but you must be aware of these ''apostles'' introducing new extra-biblical teachings and practices.
---Cindy on 12/22/07

History shows that the danger of extrabiblical, aberrant and/or heretical teachings is very real.

We must always - without exception - test all prophecies, dreams, teachings, by the standard of Scripture.

Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil.

The fact that we constantly have to test, keeps us dependent on God and His Word, as opposed to trusting everyone who insists they are speaking for God, face to face.
---Cindy on 12/22/07

Religious addicts can take you into a toxic faith.

Religious addicts are experts at setting up churches and a following of toxic faith believers. Once inside, you may not be aware of a "destructive system," but you will likely notice that your guilt and anger only increases while your self-worth decreases.
---Cindy on 12/22/07

Addictive religion, compulsive, destructive religion starts from toxic faith and false prophets.
If your self worth is decreasing while your anger is increasing, you are listening to the wrong teachers and you are in the wrong place.
---Cindy on 12/22/07

Toxic faith comes disguised as respectable and successful, or strong and effective leadership. Once exposed, many will recognize these religious addicts all too well.

These are religion systems that are often subtle but abusive, manipulative and, at heart, very mean.

It takes a true faithful Christian to expose religious toxic addicts and move false prophets to face reality.
---Cindy on 12/22/07

What is being communicated by a "prophet" - does it agree with Scripture? If not, then it should be rejected.

A lesser, but handy test, is to see if what is being communicated is in line with what God is doing at the moment. For example: if there is a harsh, judgmental word more than likely is coming from a person's own heart and mind rather than from God. God is not a God of confusion.
---Cindy on 12/22/07

False prophets often like to hear themselves talk, like to be noticed (and, if at all possible, commended on their own spirituality, their profound insight, or even how deeply the rest of us are touched.
In other words, they enjoy the reflection back on "self". If we don't commend them, they will commend themselves.
---Cindy on 12/22/07

Gorden, Look who wrote Eph.? Did this person EVER teach anything that Jesus taught? I haven't found it yet if he did. Read what the church of Epheses found about Paul in Rev.2. Now, as for Pastors and Teachers-- Since when have you heard the real truth from them? And NO, Jesus NEVER set up any so called 'church'. The truthful believers were called THE WAY. People who say they have the Holy Spirit are probably lying IF they don't keep all the ten commandments (John 14)

StrongAxe, Jesus breathed upon the 12 the Holy Spirit (John 20:21,22). It does not appear that the Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost as this event was not in tune of how the Holy Spirit works. Just look at what Peter said about the prophecy of Joel! We now know this was not correct and I seriously doubt the Holy Spirit would allow Peter to tell this lie! We know that Jesus sowed truth (wheat) and Satan sowed lies (tares) and the New Testament is the field.

Pay attention: No True Prophets is going to be giving orders to you. YOU OBEY GOD. Our roles is to wait on God for our next assigment. This is true of ALL of God's true Prophets. Wait on God. If you had any idea how many times God uses that one little word on me. "WAIT". Can prophets be wrong? Not if you are speaking the words that God gives you. "If they are my words speak them, if not keep them". There are some true prophets of today, although most will deny this.
---catherine on 12/21/07

Dr. Rich, See Ephesians 4:11-12. How does John 14:26 dispel GOD's use of Holy Prophets in the Church today? So, by YOUR logic then, we should not need PASTORS nor TEACHERS either! GOD Himself has set up the Five-Fold Ministry of Eph. 4:11-12. Each Saint gifted for a Ministry Calling is also empowered with the Holy Spirit. GOD's True Church is a COMMUNITY OF SAINTS, all filled with the Holy Spirit to work together to do GOD's Will. GOD gives the Gift of TEACHING to certain Saints TO TEACH other Saints.

Dr._Rich:

You said that we don't need prophets today because we have the Holy Spirit.

Yet, the New Testament church had the Holy Spirit since Pentecost, but prophecy was explicitly stated as onee of the gifts of the Spirit, and Prophet was one of the offices of the church, even AFTER Pentecost.
---StrongAxe on 12/21/07

What reason is there to beleive that God would ever change. He said "I change not". There have always been prophets in the old and new testaments. As for what their role is, it is the same as it always has been. They are seers, and there are many different offices that are to be held in doing the Lords work. Is everyone a pastor, or a preacher, or an evangelist. So then everyone has a different office to preform and they need to take heed to the true Prophets of GOD.

There have been some on here that I have felt are prophets. They never claimed to be one and I will not say who they are.
Neither will I dare post a word against them or their message.
On the other hand, some that have claimed directly or indirectly to be a prophet I discern a proud spirit and some are just wanting attention. Some are borderline demon possessed and some just being foolish.
Frank
---Frank on 12/20/07

Sorry to rile you Gordon.
There is nothing wrong with the 5 fold ministry revealing to their flock who they are.
Prophets will be called just as I said because it is scriptural.
Those who get riled up about it and sound a trumpet before themselves should probably sit back down on the pew and learn.
Frank
---Frank on 12/20/07

Oh, and another thing Gordon. The prophet will make it known because without sounding a trumpet before himself or making claims the Lord will show others that what he spake were the words of a prophet among them.
He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory but he who speaks of him that sent him, there is no unrighteousness in him.
May God bless.

I will make a suggestion: Do not put God in a box. Do not put prophets, prophetess, preachers or preacher's wives in a box. While we don't make a public announcement. LovableLinda, (this is totally off topic, sorry) I KNEW you couldn't have figured all the stuff out about differant names and one person! I'M sue!
---sue on 12/20/07

Frank, If you are anointed by GOD to be a Prophet, you're going to KNOW IT, and make it known. But, it's the heart MOTIVE of WHY and HOW you're making it known that matters! Are you declaring your calling just to make the Church aware? Or are you really wanting to TOOT YOUR OWN HORN out of vain pride?! There's never a problem with a pastor letting the people know that he's a pastor! And the Apostle Paul began some Epistles by stating that he was an Apostle (Galatians 1:1). It's no different for a Prophet!
---Gordon on 12/20/07

One of the best traits of a prophet is that they will make no claim to being a prophet. Their position as a prophet will be verified by other prophets prior to their ministry and what they speak will be scriptrally sound and/or come to pass.
Rail out against one and you may receive a visitation from the Lord.
And you may not like it.
The prophet won't know about that though unless you tell him/her.
False prophets shouldn't be followed though.
They will only damn your soul.

Look, we do NOT need any prophet today because we have been given the Holy Spirit (John 20:22). Don't trust anyone dead or alive other than Jesus Christ alone! His words given to us to read by His eyewitnesses (John 14:26) are all we need! (Paul was not an eyewitness) If not, then Jesus was a liar.
---Dr._Rich on 12/19/07

A true prophet would not need to hang onto someone else's coattail.
Meaning, if you have closely identified yourself with a prophet that you admire but cannot actually give a Word directly from the Holy Spirit, it's doubtful that you have the gift of prophecy.
You're worshipping the Man over God and that's called Idol Worship.
---lovable_linda on 12/19/07

If that were true, "catherine", you wouldn't need to hide.

As I've said, if you can't deal with others on an honest basis, there's absolutely no obligation for anyone to trust those words you're getting, much less the claims that you're speaking for God, and that they're coming directly from God.

Hearing/reading condemnation - that's not from God.

Hearing/reading words from the head - that's self motivated.

Hearing/reading words that line up with God's Word, words that edify, exhort, and lift up - listen with your heart.
Ask God - is that really you speaking those words? He'll answer, you'll know by His Holy Spirit.
---lovable_linda on 12/18/07

ONe true test of a prophet is that people will recognize and call this person a prophet.He/she will not tell you so you will just know. Also they will speak the word of God edify and build up but the main thing is they give GOD all of the credit.

The bible says that we are not to despise prophecy.

But I am under no obligation to follow or listen to a false prophet, not on the blogs, not ever.
---lovable_linda on 12/18/07

The bible tells us how to judge prophecy and a true prophet.

Does it/do they glorify Jesus Christ?

If they are glorifying "Their" gift, their title or themselves - they are a false prophet. All giftings belong to The Holy Spirit.

Does it/do they line up with the Word of God?

Does it/do they produce liberty or bondage?

Does it/do they uplift the Church or congregation?
---lovable_linda on 12/18/07

Relating directly to bloggers here -
if all of your dealings with others are not on the up and up, deceptive and covert -
I am under no spiritual obligation whatsoever to believe a single word that you claim to be of a prophetic origin.

If you can't tell the truth here, it's doubtful that you tell the truth anywhere.
That's not the characteristic of a true prophet.
So if lying comes naturally to you, do not expect the rest of us to honor your title, your words and/or condemnation.
---lovable_linda on 12/18/07

Misguided prophets with counterfeit prophecies have been around since Jesus Christ walked the earth.
If your desire to speak utterance over others, with the need for constant attention and praise is strong...

How are you being received?

Are there prophets today?

Yes, there are many false prophets. They lie, preach false doctrine, and deliberately try to deceive and garner support for a new and better gospel than what Jesus Christ gave us.
They would rather tell a lie than if the truth sounded better. The truth is not in them.
---lovable_linda on 12/18/07

Are false prophets dangerous?

Yes, if you refuse to listen, they'll speak curses and practice spiritual witchcraft over you.
For strong Christians, it is all of none effect.
A curse without cause shall not alight.

Are we obligated to follow the words of a false prophet? No. Absolutely not.

We can listen or read and rightly discern that it is not of God or The Holy Spirit.

The bible says that true prophecy is inspired utterance that blesses and does not condemn others.
---lovable_linda on 12/18/07

The bible says in 1 Cor. 13:9, we know in part, and prophesy in part.

Only God knows the whole.
Those that God uses prophesy according to the measure of faith that God has given them.

You will not hear condemnation coming out of their mouth over others.

When you hear condemnation, discount it and shake it off. You've encountered a false prophet.
---lovable_linda on 12/18/07

Inimicus Stultitae, The Teachings and Prophecies seem "weird" because the Church is not bothering to believe and teach these Truths herself. But, it is not wise to slander anything that's truly of GOD, because you do not understand it. At least, do a little research on these things to see if they're not true before you completely dismiss it. Do not lean on your own understanding! GOD does have True Holy Prophets in the Church (Eph. 4:11-12).

I know of at least one Prophet(ess). We should make sure that their Doctrine and Beliefs are Biblical. If they are of GOD we SHOULD heed their Messages! The Messages are from GOD Himself THROUGH the Prophet. See Ephesians 4:11-12 and Amos 3:7. GOD uses His PEOPLE in the Church to minister to each other. The Holy Spirit Herself "empowers" the Prophets. We ALWAYS need the Holy Spirit (SHKHINYAH)! Prophets are not "popular" in the Church, many of their Messages speak of GOD's Judgement.

Yes, there are prophets in today's world. Unfortunaely, most Christians scoff at them, many time get embarrassed by them. They are the street preachers, messengers of God, standing on corners proclaiming the soon to come Kingdom of God. They do this without pay and without expecting anything in return. Like John the Baptist, these prophets are a precursor to the two witnesses in Revelation.
