Joel Osteen On 60 Minutes

Joel Osteen interview tonight on 60 minutes. The theme of most of it is how much he does for people. In fact, he only mentioned God once and that seemed to be an afterthought when he was talking about how good it felt when "he" was able to help people. Is this man of God?

Joel....cute???? LOL
---Holly4jc on 2/14/08

If Joel were truly just a "motivator" he would have no church, collect tithes (tax deductable for the giver).

Can't write off a motivational seminar cost ...but you can when it's in the name of God preaching about your ministry.

He may be cute, sweet with words flowing like honey, and he may very well lead people to "his brand" of God.

slick wrappers are not fruits from the God of the Holy Bible

as Jesus said ....MANY (not a few) will be deceived in my name.
---Rhonda on 2/13/08

But, Lisa, how can someone lead you to GOD's Word, if he barely uses it himself?
---Gordon on 2/13/08

I listen to joel Osteen all the time and he is an awesome motivator. My pastor stated he is not a minister and does not preach scripture. If a man can motivate people to be positive and practice a Godly life then thats enough for me. He leads you to the word.
---Lisa on 2/12/08

Joel is definitely a cutie... but as a point of reference, not so much. He is very sweet, and I would be with him in a second if he weren't married, but, I choose to be guided by Catholic doctrine, not some jibber jabber prefaced by a cult-like chant "this is my bible... blah blah blah" I am sure he is a good guy, but don't get caught in his spell!
---Fran on 2/12/08

many people are wildly rich in this world and are so very far from God ...claiming God is doubling Joels riches is a testament to Joels success as a businessman not a man preaching about God ...it's a man using God for profit

...riches received by Joel from the people who are filling 12k - 20k stadiums is not an indication of God doubling Joels profits it is speaking of False prophets who will deceive many in the NAME OF GOD
---Rhonda on 2/10/08

Princesscookie, you say that Joel Olsteen preaches the word. The question I ask you is who's word is he preaching?

I sincerely doubt Joel Olsteen is preaching God's Word, because he rejects CHRIST AS BEING LORD AND THE ONE TRUE SAVIOR OF THE WORLD.
---Rob on 2/10/08

Princesstookie, You are blindly living in a rose-coloured dream world if you really believe that Joel Osteen is a "man of GOD'. Joel Osteen is on his way to Hell as I write this, for he has PERVERTED the Word of GOD for wealth and fame. And he is using you to help him remain on top of his pedestal. A Holy Prophet has been given the warning that if Joel O. does not REPENT, he will be swimming in the Lake of Fire. And not one cent of his blood-money will buy him his way out of that rotten place.
---Gordon on 2/10/08

I'm just curious where Joel preaches in love ...I read one of his books and there were very few quotes from the bible ...many people profess all sorts of love without ever using or quoting the bible ...Joel may do lots of good but he is not a man of God or a man after Gods heart ...this is not a judgement against the man ...it's a logical statement based upon his lack of the use of anything from the bible unless it is being used to collect money
---Rhonda on 2/7/08

Jesus said, foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head. And Jesus did not wear a rolex.

"God has been constantly doubling for this family. I am sure part of his fortune is due directly to this verse! the more they try to discredit him the more that rolls in to his family!
---Princesstookie on 2/3/08"

It does appear, Princess Leia, that money is a big deal for you.
Since God is no respector of persons, do you think a Christian pastor in a third world country experiencing poverty, using the same verse, would have the same success?
---Cindy on 2/3/08

Joel Olsteen-rocks! Judge not! Judge the fruits! He walks in love, preaches the Word in love. If more "leaders" would preach in love, churches would be growing to the extent of Joel's church! Preaching 1 thing & walking another is tearing churches apart today. From what I have seen He is living what he preaches & is not afraid to admit his own mistakes, learn from them & change for better.
---Princesstookie on 2/3/08

I know that Joel doesn't mind the critizing! He is getting a double portion for his trouble! Isaiah 61:7 He stands on it, as do I. God has been constantly doubling for this family. I am sure part of his fortune is due directly to this verse! the more they try to discredit him the more that rolls in to his family!
---Princesstookie on 2/3/08

I don't believe Joel is a man of God ...he uses Jesus for money and profits ...arena's may cost money ....at $18.75 a pop his show may fill these arena's seating between 12K - 22K ....do the math after he pays for the arena he stands to make a sweet profit on the name of Jesus and that's only if they sell half of the seats in the arena ...Matthew 24:24, Luke 6:25-27
---Rhonda on 2/3/08

I wonder how popular these televangelists would be if they preached repentence, hell fire and damnation, tithing and men ruling their homes? All the things that people have left the common churches because of. I wonder how many would be called if they had to supprt their own tv ministry with no outside help?

I also saw the 60 minutes piece i as a man struggle to follow our Lords commandments each and every day i believe God will take a very dim view of people who preach his word and mask them selfs as men of God

Human nature is odd. Sometimes we can be a mirror reflection of those we can't stand.
Finding fault with those that we most identify with but can't see the forest for the trees.

JOEL IS TOTALLY HOT! His plastic wife is so lucky. He should leave her for someone hot like himself
---jennifer on 1/16/08

james marsh, If Joel Osteen is a False Teacher, then he is NOT your "brother", but a Wolf in Sheep's clothing. Just because he's an all around "nice guy" and he talks about "Jesus", does not mean that he is a Genuine Believer. Satan ALSO comes as an "Angel of Light". Meaning Satan can LOOK like a "good guy", when he's still pure EVIL! Osteen's teachings are not Scriptural. But all his $$$$ won't reserve him a seat at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb.
---Gordon on 1/9/08

MikeM...I agree totally with you. If we start letting the government regulate these false prophets on television, the government will then expect to regulate all our religious activities.
---Susie on 1/7/08

The price of 'freedom of religion' is that you must put up with a lot of junk. In a free aociety new age quacks and televagelist MUST be allowed to sell their snake oil, buyer beware! I do not want a goverment taking the responsibility of discerning who is good/bad. There must be an absolute free market of religion, and that includes the junk-its the price we must pay for freedom.

---Holly4jc on 1/3/08

Wow!
Some of you guys are downright mean spirited.
I may not agree with everything joel says or does.
He is still my brother in Christ...period.
Ask yourself this? Is it immoral or illegal?
Some of you guys need grace , right?
Have you forgot where you came from?
And where you were heading.
If God exposed all your thoughts to the world,
would they be pure? Thats what grace is about.

Joel osteen is a money-man.God take a back
seat to his front seat of glory.Money is more to him, than righteousness and obedience
of CHRISTIAN BELIEFS.

We are to judge those within the church, not with the judgement that is unto condemnation, but judging in the sense of discerning their action to know the sheep from the wolves:

1 Cor 5:12-13

For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside? But those who are outside God judges. Therefore put away from yourselves the evil person.

Read These Insightful Articles About Bible Verses

True Christians WANT other Christians to judge their behavior. If I'm doing something or acting a certain way, and a brother or sister in Christ sees that in me, sees me drifting away from God, I hope they DO say something to me. These situations should be handled with respect and out of love, but we should all try to help each other grow closer to Christ.
---Greyrider on 1/2/08

Mt.7:1,2 Judge not, that you be not judged.
For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.

If people judge me rightfully, why should I object? But who has the knowledge to do so, or the credentials?

Joel Osteen has faults as does everyone else, and I am certain he will admit to that. But if he is doing what God has called him to do, we need not condemn him but pray for him that he may preach clearly what the Bible states.
---Lee on 1/2/08

Thou Shall Not Judge lest you be judges
---tonne on 12/31/07

This is the single most misunderstood verse of the Bible. "To judge" in the Scriptural sense, means to declare someone will go to hell when they die, and NOTHING MORE. This verse has NOTHING to do with whether someone's individual actions in an individual situation are right or wrong. We should discern Joel and his teachings/actions.

The man is a very convincing preacher and yes I think they are all about money even for the cost of printing, utilities and whatever. I feel the same way about people that want to sell you stuff on how to keep children safe, comon, if they were really concern don't you think they just give the books away. In his defense though how mamy shade tree mechanics are still in the work force and how may older police officers still on the job that never went to a certified academy cause non were in existance.

Shawn...Fruits should be numbered in souls saved and not in people attending a church. When a man begins to tell on national television how good he feels because "he" is able to help all those people, that is all the answer I need. It should be all about JESUS. It ain't all about Joel.

Susie
Your question is: is this man of God?

Despite what Nancy stated "It is by their acts that ye shall know them."

Gods Word is "Ye shall know them by their fruits" Matt. 7:16. It is by their fruits that you know a mans heart and if he is with God?

If you read Gal. 19-25 it will make the answer to your question Crystal Clear?

Just ask yourself if you see Joel Osteen producing fruits of the flesh or of the Spirit, and youll have your answer.
---Shawn.M.T on 12/27/07

I'm not sure what to think. I don't know how many know this but Joel FLUNKED out of theology school and got his ministry jumpstarted by being the son of a well-known preacher. He takes about 5% of the Bible, throws in some "Kumbayah" message and (I have to admit) phenomenal marketting skills and attracts massive audiences. He seems like a nice guy. Considering he flunked theology, maybe he actually believes his whitewashed gospel? I don't know.
---Greyrider on 12/27/07

I would not necessarily condemn someone who charges for a ticket to hear them speak because hiring a venue can be extremely expensive and there are many other costs involved also. I have only once paid to hear a preacher, the ticket price was very low and there was no collection taken. It should be one or the other - never both. If someone pays to get in and a basket is then passed around I hope everyone will just let it pass them by. That's the only way to deal with it i.m.h.o.
---RitaH on 12/27/07

And there you have it. What more needs to be said? Out of Joel Osteen's heart come his true thoughts about GOD.

There are very few people that I would pay $18.75 to see. Actually, I can't think of any since I got saved. Fortunately for us, salvation is free and the Word of God is free.
---Susie on 12/26/07

1) I think Joel is about money. He is coming here to San Diego on Friday, the 4th of January and charging $18.75 per ticket to come hear him speak and I am sure he will take up a "love" offering on top of it. I thought the Gospel was free...apparently God gave Joel permission to charge to hear it. Maybe its not the Gospel he is preaching, just his motivational speaker routine, which hardly mentions the Gospel or Jesus, sin or redemption.
---Holly4jc on 12/26/07

2) Any true man of God would not charge for people to come hear the Gospel and have the opportunity to get saved. Even the Word of God says "freely you have received, freely give". Where's his trust in the Lord to provide for the expenses for his evening in San Diego? Obviously he does not trust for God to provide his needs, since he feels the need to charge money to make sure he gets his fair share of finances. Wake up people! Actions speak louder than words!
---Holly4jc on 12/26/07

The Lord said if we confess him before men he will confess us before his Father and holy angels.
A lot of "good people" will go to hell because they did not come to the Father by way of the Son.
And when a person holds up the Bible and doesn't preach Christ he is leading them deceptively to hell for their money.

I did not see the 60 minutes interview.

However I do remember very well when Joel Olsteen was interviewd by Larry King in 2005.

During that interview, Joel Olsteen rejected several times that Christ is the only way to God, and salvation is only found in Christ.
---Rob on 12/25/07

Being 'nice' will not get you into the Kingdom of Heaven (Mat.25:11,12) Satan loves this type of person because there is no accountablity to do what Jesus said to do. Yes, it sounds good, but so was worshiping baal. Each person must wear his own armor. Study to find the real truth. I would suggest the teachings of Jesus as given to us by His eyewitnesses is a good place to start.
---Dr._Rich on 12/25/07

I think Joel is about Love, and the thousands who attend his church feel the love. First Corinthians 13 tells us how important love is compared with knowledge. Yes, some would be more impressed if he memorized the Bible and strutted his knowledge, but "the greatest of these is Love."
---Geraldine on 12/24/07

I also saw this interview and am curious as to when "good" people go to heaven? I was raised to believe you must be born again to enter God's kingdom. I pray Mr.Osteen is not relying on his wealth and good works.

Only God judges the intent of the heart. All we can do is make guesses. The Bible says if you give to someone it is the same as if you give to the Lord so how can it be wrong for him to help people? I have also found that when I help people there are those who are quick to ridicule and judge instead of encourage. God bless Joel to help as many as he can.
