Certainly we are all familiar with this verse from Matthew 7:14
"Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."

The strait & narrow, The Early Church according to Acts 2 v's 37 - 41 & still lives today, be but few to find it. In other words, it's to strict for some, because there's No wavering ( No flirting with the devil & his glamorous things of the world ).

The grace of God is available to every man it has appeared to.

"Tit 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,"

My Father is not some carrot dangling ogre who teases men with grace attached to a string when all along He doesn't want them to have it. Who do you think He is anyway?
---Linda on 3/8/08

To answer the original question, both words (strait and narrow) denote (from the Greek definition) a way full of obstacles. How very true it is. You will find that so as soon as you open your mouth to preach the almost too good to be true news.
---Linda on 3/8/08

Life and death, good and evil, are set before us, both the ways and both the ends. The strate gate is sincere and constant prayers and endeavours, [to make a determined effort].>>>Jesus said, "Many are called, but few are chosen". Only a few have received the grace of God which guaruantees them Heaven. The grace of God. Not your church going or any good works, will get you to heaven. Who has the grace of God? Only a few.

Bob. As a Preacher of Gods word, not what the masses want to hear, it becomes almost impossible not to offend those we are tyrying to reach...that being all walks within hearing distance. But if the TRUTH is not spoken, unwavering, it just promotes Satan's household to continue to deceive. Of course, I have no power as to the outcome. Jesus has all power and authority to convict or enrage, just as scripture says.
---Greely on 3/7/08

Headed for greeley, been through it?

Plug your nose, or place a hankie over your mouth. First time you experience it, it takes your breath away. You become accustomed after awhile, sort of, maybe never. Driving by those feedlots, it's a doozie. As you keep driving east, it really doesn't get easier until you reach the cornfields of kansas.

The straight and narrow gate could be viewed by the intellectual society of the Laodecian Church, now at large throughout our nation, as a locked passageway, without having any key to get through. Only those who have humbled themselves with humility, asking forgiveness of sins and repetance of such, will be able to enter. All Glory Seekers will be thrown into the lake of fire! Why? God will not give them HIS Glory, much less burp them of their own overflowing cup!!! Please refer to Revelation Chapter 3.

There is only one way that leads to life, and that way is through Jesus--John 14:6,John 10:7-9. Jesus Christ is the only One that can save mankind-Acts 4:8-12. To be saved, one needs to repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of sins--Acts 2:38,Mark 16:15-16.
---denna9368 on 2/19/08

There are two paths in life: One path Christ is on, called the road of Jesus: the other path Christ is not on, called the road of disobedience. You either follow Jesus's path, or else follow the path of the world: one leads to heaven, the other leads to eternal separation from heaven. Most choose the wide road to destruction, and only a few choose the narrow way of righteousness. The uncommitted one, the hypocrit tries in vain to walk with one foot on the right path, and the other foot on the wrong path
---Eloy on 2/10/08

There are only two paths in life to follow, the narrow righteous path which very few take, and the wide and wrong path which most take. God has already sent out his call to the ends of the earth, and now Commands ALL to repent and be saved. Each person makes their own choice whom they will serve in this life: either the Lord God Jesus Christ, or else not the Lord God Jesus Christ.
---Eloy on 2/10/08

Recall Noah's day, how of the whole world only 8 souls were saved? Scripture reveals to us that most choose the wide road to destruction, and that only a few choose the narrow way of righteousness. "But he knows the way with me, I am tried: I will come forward as gold."
---Eloy on 2/10/08

The NARROW gate is: Obeying the WHOLE Bible (O.T and N.T.), the 10 Commandments, repenting of sins, living like and accepting Jesus as your LORD (BOSS). The other (WIDE) gate is: living however you want, living for yourself, sinning, not accepting Jesus as Lord.

Christ told us few would be willing to pay the price to become a Christian ...the strait gate narrow way (difficult)

Many Christians today use Christ in an overly simplistic way - just believing on him (getting) from life without having to do anything on their part (giving back to Christ submitting to His authority and obey His laws) because its reasoned out that its already been taken care of on the cross
---Rhonda on 2/8/08

...mans religious systems are the wide gate it's easy all you do is believe and magically you are whisked away to a heaven that is created by men ...narrow gate giving up the ways of the world is different and difficult when the wide gate preaches simplicity ....the Kingdom of God is here on earth where Jesus will rule when he returns ...this is the reward of Chrisitans who submit and obey the Lord Jesus Christ

WhenI adopt a child from another country- in my house-this child is loved-but must learn the new family and new way of life-the way we do things here 2B pleaseing to God and honor Him and each other. They may struggle some time learning what2do and not. This is living the strait and narrow. Learning and we will always be learning. God loves us as I will love my child andBpatient.BUT-as I acpect the child to change and be part of us-so we are to change-2bpart. Giving up the old teachings 4a better way.

JD Rich: You're following the way (slippery slope) traveled by many academiacs, i.e., persons who're wise in their own eyes (Pv. 3:5-7). Rest assured, you (a lawyer wannabe) have no authority to put "The Bible On Trial". The shear arrogance (audacity) of such a thing is evidence of your perilous sin condition & dire need of an Advocate (1 Jn. 2:1-2) who can deliver "you" from conviction & penalty of death. The "truth" sir is you're on trial for your life!

Its like,a boat, that everyone is trying
to get to. The last boat.
And the boat is a certain size. And only so many can fit on the boat.Surely, some will,
and some won't.IMAGE of SPIRIT shall be the ticket.
Whether we did ,or whether we did'nt,do this or that. There is nothing said that is not recorded. This also, will be a characteristic
of that image of spirit by which TRUE CHRISTIANS
SHALL BE KNOWN from any other IMAGE OF SPIRIT.What we do and say make a difference of choice.
---Jack_8773 on 1/6/08

To me this means following the bibles way of salvation, thru Jesus Christ. Many believe they are on the right path,no matter what they believe, and this is dangerous. The one that says that all roads lead to God, is also, on the wrong path. Mohamed is not the way, nor is Budda, or Harry Krishna, Jesus is the way, and to others, that appears to be a very narrow way of looking at it.
---Gayla on 1/4/08

Juris Doctor. Google 'The Bible On Trial' and you will get your answer. If you would read what Jesus said "...and FEW there be that find it." you will understand why I wrote what I did earlier. Most people don't want to know the real truth because they can't handle it. Rev. 3:14-22 is on point. These people think all they need is 'faith, love and grace'. God tells them to sell this for truth. They are naked and poor but they just can't see the truth!

It appears Dr. Rich is a doctor who preaches salvation by works and not by faith in the authored and finished work of Jesus Christ. Am I am correct in this Doc? Do you believe you are saved by what you do?
---ShaunT on 1/4/08

Rich: Which kind of doctor are you?

Scripture is best defined by God's "strait" talk Mima: "Blessed is the man [person] that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful...he delights in the law of the LORD... & in his [God's] law [word]...he meditates day & night...he'll be like a tree planted by...rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season, his leaf...won't wither, & whatsoever he does will prosper..." Ps. 1:1-6

The Strait and Narrow Way is HOLINESS. It's giving up all sin. It's Narrow because so few people are willing to travel it. That is, FEW in comparison to the amount of people that exists. And it's Narrow, because YAHUSHUA (Jesus Christ) is the ONLY WAY to Heaven. The way to Hell is WIDE because more people travel it and it's the easier way to go. That is until they get to Hell, THEN it becomes excruciatingly PAINFUL and TOUGH.

its, believing in jesus, what he did,who he is,what he did for the world, then living your life as he said we should.the strait and narrow is how you live your life here on earth which leads to him and eternal life after death.
---tom2 on 1/4/08

I stand in agreement with Bill and J.non.100%. Allowing for a complete, unwavering confidence in the atoning sacrifice of Jesus, through the indwelling empowerment of His Spirit, adding nothing to it, nor taking anything from its completeness and finality, is that straight and narrow way.
---joseph on 1/4/08

The gospel of Jesus (what He taught) is the straight gate and Narrow way. The gospel of Paul is the wide way and crooked gate because that is where most people are who call themselves Christian. It's much easier to have 'faith' and believe you are saved by 'grace' then to search for and know the truth and keep God's covenant (10 commandments) There is NO grace in the 10 Virgin prophecy, nor in Revelation.
---Dr._Rich on 1/3/08

There is no proof of a mention of heaven or hell in this verse. Life and destruction are also what we choose to walk in right here on earth.

i.nonymous ... The word "strait" does NOT mean "straight"
"Strait" means "narrow, limited, confined" ... The "strait-jacket", comes from this root.
Mima ... it means it is not an easy way, because it is difficult to squeeze through with all the baggage we carry ... that is just one of many meanings,
"Straight" mean "without curve or bend"
---alan_of_UK on 1/3/08

Narrow Road: Means following God's law.
Broadroad: It's the world of cheating, lieing, stealing etc...It's the road of the sinners.

Jesus is the straight gate and the narrow way to heaven, relationship with God the Father, and all that comes exclusively with these things.

There is no other hope for life beyond this world than Jesus.
---j._nonymous on 1/3/08

"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.'" (John 14:6) And Jesus desires that we love all people > "For if you love those who love you, what reward have you?" (in Matthew 5:46) There is but one God and His one Spirit of love who can make us truly all-loving. THIS is straight and narrow > how we are to personally and caringly love each person exactly how You have us love each one.
