Girlfriend Quit Teaching Job
Based on this passage from Timothy 2:12: But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. I've made my girlfriend quit her job as a teacher. Any good careers that require her to do no teaching?
Moderator - That scripture isn't refering to teaching in a school. Please reread and hopefully she can get her job back.

God can raise up stones to do His work. In some cases God chooses to work through a woman. Deborah>> was the leader of Israel and a judge and a prophetess.. She delivered an oracle giving Barak God's instructions for a battle in the Jezreel Valley against the Canaanite army commanded by Sisera. And guess what, Barak obeyed. And guess what, Israelites won the battle. What people needs to do stop thinking that they know more than God, because they do not.

Part two>>>And furthermore, you people are taking one or two scriptures way out of context and trying to make a law out of it kaboot. And furthermore, you are guilty of telling God what to do and who to use. Who do you think you are?

Women excel in gifts of hospitality, mercy, teaching and helps. Much of the ministry of the church depends on women. The Bible nowhere restricts women from exercising the gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians chapter 12). Women, just as much as men, are called to minister to others, to demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), and to proclaim the Gospel to the lost (Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 1:8, 1 Peter 3:15).

Women are encouraged to teach other women (Titus 2:3-5). The Bible also does not restrict women from teaching children. The only activity women are restricted from is teaching or having spiritual authority over men.

Sir for one thing it is not up to you to tell your girlfriend to quit her job that is not your place to do that and also maybe God put this calling on her life and whoa to you if you are stopping this calling. No one should stand in the way of someone that is called to preach teach or anything. I think that you need to go to her and let her know that you were wrong and pray that she will be able to get her job back.
---Sherrill on 2/12/08|
You made her quit her job? Who are you to tell her what to do and what not to do? A woman can teach anywhere she pleases. A woman can preach/teach in a church as long as she doesn't rule over the men. And she isn't doing that if she is a God fearing woman. You need to re-read the bible.

NurseRobert - we have a problem here in that there are 2 'Lee's posting on this thread, so I am unsure of which your comments refer to.

I have already commented on this most ridiculous question but I find it hard to believe someone could be this arrogant and full of himself. Sir, are you prepared to pay all of your girlfriend's bills and take on all of her financial responsibilities? You are just a boyfriend and not a spouse. Heaven forbid if she is foolish enough to marry you. Poor thing.

Lee, the Bible says I can own slaves, Sell my daughter and stone my neighbor for working on the sabbath. So should I be doing that?

Robyn - *I see another comment of mine did not make it to this blog. Its ok*
A few of mine do not make it either. I wonder if it is because there are hundreds of posts and the time factor does not permit the review of all of them.

MikeM - Exodus 22:18 You shall not permit a sorceress to live.
I guess that it does not say anything about a wizard or warlock so we should be safe.

Robyn said, "I see another comment of mine did not make it to this blog. Its ok. No one wants to hear the truth because the truth hurts."
Join the club! :) About 80% of my messages have never seen the blog either, probably because somebody doesn't like what I'm demonstrating conclusively in Scripture. Censoring for bad language or hateful speech is understandable, but filtering out verses in God's Word that they don't like...well, even moderators will have to give an account someday.

I see another comment of mine did not make it to this blog. Its ok. No one wants to hear the truth because the truth hurts. You bet it does. But it needs to be told.Hiding the truth has never helped anyone. This man who did this to this woman needs to be put in jail and she is worse off than he is.This man needs to be saved and ask the Lord for wisdon because he is clearly lacking in both wisdom and understanding. Very scary.

Lee- Will you take your literalism, verbatim- with say Exodus 22:18? 99% of fundamentalist bail on this issue.
Sorry, I watn my wife to be intelligent, educated, and a little sassy, not a stepford wife. The scripture refers to certain meetings in church.
---MikeM on 1/23/08|
Lee, no one needs a code. You have taken words out of context that's all. There are many things in the bible that were said to just certain people, at a particular time and for a special reason. Some things are not meant to be taken as 'for everyone' at all times. These verses, would not allow your girlfriend to EVER speak (to anyone at all) because you have read the words that a woman 'must remain in silence'. Is that what you want?

"Be in silence"
Lee you have taken the passage totally out of contexrt, as Mod and others say.
To take it further ... a woman "must be in silence"
That means she must not speak! Even to her boy-friend, or chldren or to a shopkeeper when buying the groceries.
And you have "I've made my girlfriend" You are a control freak, and don't deserve her
---alan_of_UK on 1/22/08|
You must be looking for a wife who will never be allowed to have her own opinion, never speak unless spoken to, handle her own money, (that's if you'd allow her to earn any) teach her children anything (and that would include good manners and how to dress themselves etc.) and the list goes on if you take this verse so its ultimate conclusion. I hope you realise your error, are man enough to apologise and that she gets her job back. Don't be too shocked if you dumps you though.
---RitaH on 1/22/08|
It is good of you to want to do right. Sometimes we make mistakes doing it. I think you've made one here by not taking the context of the Scripture and taking it at face value without interpretation. Paul is speaking about the assembly here. Taking it like you do would eliminate her from teaching her children also and never being able to speak at all. If a woman has been given the position of teaching she is doing it by permission and is not usurping anyones authority.
---john on 1/22/08|
A man that controlling, not allowing girlfriend to make own decissions, doesn't deserve such a woman. Quit teaching, throw her hardearned college education away! The Bible doesn't make you womans warden. Your letter shows you don't understand the Bible well enough to direct anyone. That verse isn't about school teaching. Ask the lady to forgive you and change your ways. Men are to love their wives(if serious, girlfriends too) as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself for it. Service to lady not dominance.
---Darlene_1 on 1/22/08|
1 Tim. 2:11-14: "Let a woman learn in silence, in all subjection. But I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, rather, to be in silence. Because Adam was formed first, then Hawwah. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman, having been deceived, fell into transgression."
This is about authority, submission and deception. The context is that woman should not exercise authority over man, because she is easily deceived. This has NOTHING to do with teaching academics.
---righteouswarriors on 1/22/08|
I never though I would say this...
Lee, you're an idiot...
your girlfriend should dump you.

Wow, this question has GOT to be a joke. Although, the older I get the stranger some people seem to be.
---sue on 1/22/08|
You have got to be kidding. Teaching is a noble profession, and has nothing to do with that scripture, which is contextually about the church. She needs to break up with you and get back to the career she trained for.
---Trish9863 on 1/22/08|
The moderator is correct. This scripture is not talking about teaching school.
