My Husband Is Still Married

Any advice for me? My husband showed me a court letter stating he missed a divoce hearing in another state and his former marriage has been reinstated. He said his lawyer is handling it and he is now divorced from her. No proof yet. It's been almost a month. Where is this marriage in God's eyes?

in gods eyes unless his wife comitted adultery and he caught her that is the only way for divorce. the bible says to give that person a divorce decree.if you dont have that piece of paper stating they are divorced, your marriage is not recognized by god.i pray you will get the answers you are seeking.

Laurie, he has lied to you from the beginning, saying he'd never been married before. Perhaps there may even be other wives!
I agree with Susie, seek an annulment

Well, God understands, and you are probably off the hook. Your husband, on the otherhand is silly, for goofing up. Do not worry about him. You off the hook. However, you can not be married to one man if he is already married. Hurry and get this mess straightened out, in God's eyes and the world's eyes.

Time for an annulment. Fraud is a legal reason for that to happen.

Based on what the Bible states, not sure God would be pleased regardless of how this turns out. At this point, he and you are guilty of adultery, and he can add having more than one wife to the list - assumming you are married to him and having sex. Until you see his divorce settlement in writing, not sure I'd just take his word for it.

I never thought about asking him for divorce papers because he said he was not married. He put on his marriage license to me "1" meaning I was his first marriage. I would never have gone ahead with this if I had known about wife #1.

The REAL question is "Where is your present marriage in God's eyes?"

Why don't you ask God Himself?

Aren't you just as capable of hearing from Him as anybody else here?

If in doubt, you could read Jesus's words on the indissolubility of marriage.

If you married him then you're married. Papers in order or not. If you're concerned about what God thinks read 1 Cor 7:11, Matt5:32, Matt19:9, Mark 10:12, and Luke 16:18.

I would seek legal advice from a lawyer of my own if that is the case. How did he get married to you without proof of his divorce from previous wife?
---Trish9863 on 1/27/08

I would say if the lawyer has taken care of it, then there is paper proof which would not take a full month to get to you.

We fool our own selves into trusting the people we shouldn't. So, I need to get a divorce from my self which Jesus says to deny. And get into God's love which will give me reliable sense and guidance > "And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment." (Philippians 1:9)
