Acceptable Tithe To God

Andy, next time I go to war to free my nephew I will be sure to give a tenth of the finest spoils to the high priest king of the land that I engaged in the war. Then I will give the remainders of the spoils of the war to the people of the land so I can fall in line with the occurance of Abram that you cite. |

When Jesus rebuked the farisees about their lack of love did he not say you should have rather done one (to love) without neglecting the other (tithes). if one says tithes are not found in new-testament, okay you believe Hebrews is old testament. We who tithe do this following Abraham, father of all believers, and not of Moses. we give our tithes in faith and not in LAW. Hebrews explains this and says that even LEVY gave his tithes to MELCHISEDECH in this manner. |

Hey...I am of Jewish background (a born again Christian) and of the tribe of Levy and no one has paid me any tithes!! If tithing was still in effect, shouldn't someone be paying me tithes? Just a question to all of you who want to stay stuck in the Old Testament tithing system rather than the New Testament way of giving...praying and letting God tell you how much He wants you to give and where to give it and then being obedient to Him and being a cheerful giver? LOL |

The New Testament nowhere assigns a certain percentage of income to set aside, but only says it is to be in keeping with his income (1 Corinthians 16:2). Each and every Christian should diligently pray and seek Gods wisdom as to whether to participate in tithing and/or for how much he or she should give (James 1:5). Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7). |

I would not dream of not paying my tithe plus offerings.God has blessed me and I'm happy to bless others. How can a true Christian not want to give? I will admit it took me 6 months to be convinced I needed to do this.Tithes can also be work you do for God but I don't think you're talking about that. |

#1 Leviticus 27:30 - 34. The only items that had a tithe on them were of the land, the seed of the land, the fruit of the tree, the herd and the flock. Only the tribe of Levi received the tithe because they received no other inheritance. The Levites only had 48 cities thru out the land of Israel and they had no way of producing these basic neccissities. The tithe was implemented by God as a way to provide for His priests. |

#2 Today we are all priests and there is no need for a tithe because we all give as the Spirit directs. Interesting fact: only the tenth that passed under the rod was the tithe and it was only of your excess. So if one year you had 40 goats and the next year you had 39 you did not tithe because you had no excess. If one year you had 40 goats and the next year you had 59 you only tithed 1. |

#3 God took the tenth to pass under the rod, not the first. Some preachers teach to tithe the first off of your gross, what a gross manipulation and ignorance of scripture. |
