Heard The Voice Of God

I've read many blogs that say how people have actually heard God's voice. I want that. Why won't God talk to me? I'm a Christian, I pray to God and ask him to make me a better Christian and to do his will, but when I ask Him to talk to me, nope. Why do some people hear Him and not me?

Eloy, I like your prayer. If you believe anything is possible and pray like this you should be seeing miracles. If you haven't yet, I ask God to use you for healing others, in the name of Jesus. Amen. Just be brave enough to ask.
---Fay on 5/20/10

maybe you need to be more open minded to different possabilities without concluding it all and not just set on one thing only i heard GODS audible voice once in my life i was told to prepare spiritually, mentally etc to prepare to find truth and let me tell you it goes far beyond christianity ... all i have to say is stick to moses n the prophets of the old testament and if your open to the truth it will show you things you never thought could be true but you have to trust it love you bless u

Betty, if you are a christian already you don't call on the Holy Spirit to come, He should already be in you. If you don't hear Him, he must not be there.
---Bobby1 on 3/10/10

You need to pray for the Holy Spirit and keep on praying until you hear from Him.
---Betty on 3/10/10

Carla, your explanation is right on the money. It was all about the Lord, not about the persons healing. Or even the person that got healed. That was the best explanation so far that I have heard. I might borrow your response. When I see a good response, I take it and repeat it, hope that you don't mind. God richly bless you sister Char. Peace always

MarkV,

In that case you are totally right there. I don't believe in the limbs returning or in fact being raised from the dead since those are typical chair fillers rather than honest to goodness Miracles of which I believe
come without the fame of the person either asking or praying for them. Christ continually demonstrated that the people did not broadcast the healing they received, it was not the glory of the healed but the praise and acknowledgement of the healer that counts, these days it's about money, chair fillers.
---Carla on 3/9/10

Pray to Jesus and ask him to open your ears to him. I pray like this: "Christ God Jesus, you alone are my God and my Salvation. I give you all that I am up to you. Make me into exactly what you want me to be for you. I am at your service, and I want to please you. Let all that I do, and think, and say, bring glory to your holy name. Please cause mine eye to see you, mine ear to hear you, my heart to love you, my mind to understand you, and my flesh to feel you, always and at all times. In Christ God Jesus I pray. Amen."
---Eloy on 3/8/10

Elaine, I loved what you wrote. It reminded me of an extraordinary experience I had one time and thought it kinda strange, but past it off, until I read in a Christian book of the same experience that I had, and then I understood. As I was working in my kitchen, I leaned down, and God's own voice came straight out of my mouth as I was talking outloud. My words, but God's own voice. It was pretty amazing. This way of God talking to me only happened once. God's people should appreciate everything God does for us in revealing Himself to us, because, so often it might be the first and only. Oh, yes, and I want to add something about that imagination. I would have to say at least 9 out of 10 it isn't. Have a great week.
---catherine on 3/7/10

God speaks mostly in that (still small voice).
To some even with other. But when you don't hear that (still small voice) you may have done something that has turned God off.
---Lawrence on 3/3/10

St. John of the Cross, Doctor of the Church, the expert on this subject, says we are not to make much of supernatural phenomena (replete they are in the lives of those who pray deeply) because we tend to "worship the experience" rather than God. Fr. Malahdy, O.P. (spiritual director of Fr. Korapi--EWTN) says these are given to those of "little faith"--to strengthen our faith... If you do not have these, know that God is leading you by another path (your faith may be strong)--He alone knows the path best--wait for Him to lead you where you are supposed to be (like Bl Mother Teresa of Calcutta)... and de-emphasize "supernatural experiences". To avoid interference of Satan--we "listen" instead of talking.
---Letha on 3/2/10

Are you so sure he's not? Have you ever had a word pop into your head you've never heard before? Have you ever had Scripture pop into your head as you are considering how to meet a circumstance? These are ways you hear God's voice, but you might not recognize it...because we often hear his words in the recognized sound of our own voice, and count it as our own imagination. I heard the Lord's voice once, just as I was waking, spoken in Hametic..."Kenetka seth ta'tha"...it felt like a vibration throughout my whole body.
---Elaine on 3/2/10

I haven't known many people who have heard God's voice. He does communicate with us through His word(Bible) and I believes he puts impressions into our minds through the Holy Spirit. He often speaks to us through other Christian people who are moved by the Spirit. Visions and dreams are also relatively common. If He spoke audibly to everyone, then where would faith enter?
---jody on 3/2/10

I'm sorry that you have such a hard time believing Jesus is still in the miracle business because you haven't seen it yourself. Blessed are those who believe and have not seen?
---Fay on 3/2/10

Carla, I am pretty sure that what you ask God not everything will come to pass. That's evident by all those who have died. Millions upon millions were prayed for and they still died. The reason, we will all die. If we pray for a limb to be restored, I don't believe it will, since we don't know the purpose God has for that individual are those around him. Many prayers are answered, but they are what God wills to answer, like food, and help.
I have heard many say, that someone told them limbs were restored and that people raised from a coffin. Always a testimony from someone else. And through this testimonies many make a confession of faith because of the testimony. The gospel is excluded altogether. People are looking for signs and wonders.
---MarkV. on 3/2/10

His voice is His word and His word is His voice.

One of the reasons why we study the word, put it in us, speak it out over our lives is because the Holy Spirit uses the word in us to speak to us. He can bring a scripture to mind that we have memorized.

God speaks through His word. One day I asked the Lord for a word of encouragement and He gave me the scripture in John, "For the Father Himself loves you." God lives and moves in His word.
---Donna on 3/1/10

Thank you for your blessings MarkV. I just want you to know that it is not about me. It is all about Jesus. We are nothing without him, but with him we can do all things because his kingdom is in us. He is my everything. He is my groom. I may not be perfect but I am striving to be. James 3:2 says if a man is perfect in words he controls the whole body. That's my goal.

Fay, I do want to say that what you have stated in many ways is very true. I do not want to question your salvation or faith. I am glad that you are very involve with the Lord. Nothing could help more then to have a close relationship with Christ as you have. I was only questioning the audible voice. Nothing more. Everything you just said is very true. We hear Him through many ways, speaking to our heart, by the Holy Spirit. Blessings to you Fay.
---MarkV. on 3/1/10

Oh, and I have seen limbs grow. Not personally with my eyes but we prayed for a woman and overnight her leg grew and she could walk without the aid of lift shoes.

My pastor used to tell of a woman who wanted curly hair all her life. Finally one day during praise and worship her hair was immediately curly.

And one church that I know has canes all over the altar from people who have been healed there.

I have witnessed prayer for some with cancer so bad the doctors have all but given up and the following week the doctor has declared them cancer free.
---Fay on 3/1/10

Just for the record I have only heard God's audible voice twice in my life but he speaks all the time through many other ways. I can guarantee you if any recorder had been in the room those times it would have picked it up. The first time I was 8 yrs old and the second time I was in my twenties. He usually speaks through that still small voice of the Holy Spirit, but the Holy Spirit only speaks what God tells him to so I credit God. Many times he has spoken to my spirit and it was as forceful as it was when he spoke out loud. Why are you knit picking? People usually do that because they are jealous. God is no respector of persons. What he does for one he will do for all.
---Fay on 3/1/10

While I agree with some things MarkV has said I can't say everything is true God has been revealed and that's true but the word declares that Christ can be touched by our infirmities which means when we ask believing according to faith he is able.

However in everything we ask takes wisdom as to what is asked. I can say what ever I have asked by faith apart from the lottery lol God has granted and gave me salvation instead of monitory wealth which is worth much much more that, sorry joking apart.

CarlaX

If it is your hearts desire, a need and not a want God can and will grant what you ask if you believe.

Fay, I never put God in a box, in fact many get mad at me because I don't. He is outside of time. What He ordained is coming to pass. It has all been written already. His word is there for us to use in time. He finished His revealed word. Any voices you hear are in your mind and in your heart. If you don't believe me set a recorder someplace and keep it on. And when you think God is talking to you it should be recorded. I assure you, you will not hear a voice.
Many claim so many things Fay, like the ability to restore limbs, revive people who are dead in a conffin, and the ability to use the force of faith to ask for material things and you get them, name it and claim it. We have the Spirit of God speaking to our hearts now Fay.
---MarkV. on 3/1/10

I had that same question and noticed how others could see God doing things in their lives and how they had dreams, visions etc.. I havent heard His physical voice, but the still voice in your spirit is the main way He communicates. I made a decision to make myself more aware of Him and began putting Him first before I made decisions about anything. I chose to consider what His thoughts were on anything and everything even the smallest insignificant things. I purposefully began to believe He would direct me or speak to me or show me, in His way and His timing. I waited and then it happened. You just have to make Him the priority everyday. Talking to Him. Dont give up.
---Jerilyn on 2/28/10

you never answered the question, about what God said to you the last time he spoke to you? Remember Joseph Smith also supposedly heard God speak to him. God speaks today through His Word. When we get to the point that we understand all that he has written down, then we may need further revelation.
---michael_e on 2/28/10

MarkV, God will speak to anyone who diligently seeks him. What is a personal relationship without communication? Communication is a two way street. God spoke to Moses when he was alone. Why would he not choose a place to speak to someone when they are alone? If the restroom is the only place a person is ever alone why would he not choose to speak in a rest room? What makes it different from any other room where someone is alone? Where in the Word does it say that God will not speak in a rest room? I mean no disrespect but when you choose to disbelieve someone's experience with the Holy Spirit you are denying the Holy Spirit in their life and that is mighty close to blasphemy, so please be careful for your own sake.

michael e and MarkV, my pastor taught that we should seek the Holy Spirit in all our ways. He always said we should ask what to wear, what to eat, what to speak, which way to turn(when driving), and that we should do so without ceasing. If we are asking without ceasing then we should be hearing without ceasing. Sometimes the answer is audible, sometimes just a knowledge, sometimes through someone else, sometimes the Word, sometimes another book, sometimes others. Read John 14:12 and 20:30. Don't keep God in a box. He is bigger than you know.
---Fay on 2/28/10

God sometimes speaks through dreams and visions and many other ways. Not enough space here to share one dream but it's interpretation came a year or so later, which was that there is a group of people standing in the way of my promised land keeping me from crossing my Jordan by keeping God in a box. It's a very large box because they know God is big but they are limiting God. Soon the box will tumble over top of them and fall in the water of the Holy Spirit. Another dream told me the dam they are creating will soon break and I will fly in the Holy Spirit's power.
---Fay on 2/28/10

Faye, I believe that michael e is correct because what I have noticed in my Christian life is that many brothers and sisters use words that are not found in Scripture but sound good when they speak. The Spirit of God influnences us and convicts us to move us either away from sin, or to teach us, or to bring us to someone who is lost. The spirit of God speaking to our spirit. And we move where our desires lead us. When we pray for God to do things for us, He will not speak out loud to you. Many say they hear Him speaking loud, some say they hear Him while in the toilet audible words. Just not true at all. He speaks through His Word all the time. And the Spirit guides us where He wants to take us.
---MarkV. on 2/27/10

michael e, the Holy Spirit is my constant companion so I expect him to speak to me, to guide me, and love me even when I am imperfect. The last time God spoke to me was through a dream. It was to give me direction. Our whole walk with God is through faith, so if you don't believe that God still speaks then he won't be speaking to you.

Michael E, would you ever quit talking to your children? God loves you more than you could possibly love your children. He's not going to quit talking to you or any one of his children. You just have to tune in your radio station.

Sue,God is unchanging. Jesus is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. Search the scriptures for yourself. Psalm 29 says God's voice is deep and majestic. The word voice means "to call aloud". That means God does still talk in a loud voice. The Holy Spirit is that still small voice who is your constant companion. God speaks when He wants. If you seek only for his voice you open the door for satan to fool you. You must seek his Will and that is in the Word. God spoke to Moses face to face as to a friend because Moses was sought God. Keep seeking.
---Fay on 2/19/10

Pls. don't be deceive to them. God does not talk physically today unlike prophets before. The bible is completely finished 70 AD. The bible is exactly the word of God. If you want to hear the word of God, read read and pray. God is softly talking in your heart....be sensitive.

If you want to hear the voice of God today beware...satan can copy God's voice. 2 Cor 11:14 And no marvel, for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. He can disguised so you may believe that God speaks to you. Cling only to your bible no one else.
---rosalie on 2/17/10

Sue, I hear God's voice through His word. Many times through others who are walking in the spirit. Some times through a conviction. What I hear is what He wants me to know. He directs me to go further and know more about Him. It's not a voice that is audible, but in a way where my minds except what He wants me to know. And I rejoice and say, I get it now. I know what I'm suppose to do.
What I think happens is that your mind and thoughts are not consummed by God. The Moderator is correct, if He is far from your mind, you will never hear Him. You need Faith that He is who He says He is. And that He is there always with you.
---MarkV. on 2/17/10

I do not "hear" the voice of God often. But when I do, there is NO doubt about Who I am hearing. I don't think it's audible (there's seldom anyone else to hear). But I think it's a voice I hear in my mind. I recognize it because it is often so far from my current thinking and so true to the God of the Bible.

He speaks when HE wants to, not necessarily when I would like Him to. If I am seriously perplexed by something, I will ask Him for an answer. He always answers...but sometimes he speaks through someone else or a Bible passage I've overlooked.

Hearing God's voice is not something you need to seek nor merit by your spirituality. Tell the lord of your desire and relax. He may speak when you least expect it.

The Key is "be as a child" The world desensitises us. It's like watching your first gruesome film, reading the newspaper, Each time you lose a little compassion and draw farther from God. I heard the beautiful voice of God as he spoke I heard it from inside, not with my ears and I felt his love as he spoke. He said "I Love You" for months I had been contemplating suicide. I had lost the world and became as a child. Later I had to force myself to watch a bloody movie, watch the TV news and read the newspaper. Because I have to work, eat, and raise a family. Staying as a child is not so easy. This is the spiritual war raging around us. It's right in our faces day in and day out, war-murder-death for real and for fun.

I wish He would. His voice, man, you'll never forget. I do not know why He's never spoken to you audibly. Anyways, only lasted for me a couple of years. Only on occasions, now. He speaks in many, many, many, ways. Most of them you will learn from experience. Hang in there.

This I do know, God wants to talk to His people. I fear, baseing this on what God has said to me.... "God's people are not staying in prayer". If you have no time for God, He will not have any time for you. If God cannot have you 100% then God does not want you at all. Keep praying, talking to Him throughout the day, praise Him in good times and hard times. The moderator actually said it real well. I believe, and God already knows, those who are going to be serious about Him, will have no problem hearing from God on a regular bases. Really, you are missing out on so much by not experiencing the true, living, God and all He has to offer you. Obedience is the key.

i say there's a big difference between wanting and needing something. do you want to hear God's voice? or you need to hear God's voice? i have heard God's audible voice last february 2008, after accepting Him as my Lord and Savior. i felt i needed to hear his reply about serving Him, for me being a pastor. His reply "If you go and preach my Words and do not act on it, you are only condemning yourself and you are lying." thats what i heard from our Lord, and i believe its not just for me, but for everyone serving the Lord. if you truly seek him, you will find him...the Lord always find you. sometimes the want to hear God's voice is doubting him, question him. pray...

Sue, we don't receive everything we ask for. We receive everything we need. Hearing the voice of God isn't given as a reward. I'm convinced that every person who hears God's voice is also challenged with hearing Satan's voice. Discernment is a life-long lesson. Ask for help in 'seeing' all the messages of love God is sending you. Believe me, they are there. He LOVES you.

Do you know why His voice is a still, small voice? Because it requires intimacy and a head laying upon His breast to hear it. Sue, the truth is that your spirit man always hears Him because of being joined to the Lord and being one spirit with Him. His voice is the voice of peace, edification, comfort, hope, love, grace. Anything that falls outside of those parameters and tears you down is not of Him.

God likely does sometimes speak audibly to people. It is highly doubtful, though, that this occurs as often as some people claim it does.Even in the Bible,God speaking audibly is the exception, not the ordinary. Friend, You are doing okay, by following the command to "Desire Earnestly Spritual Gifts..." 1st Cor. 14:1
I heard God's voice one time: I was 9, and it said "TIM, YOU NEED TO GO GET SAVED!" (To me, it was like a loud Sawmill Whisper.) I did, my dad led me thru the plan of Salvation at the altar, so why did God speak to me? Was I too dumb to figure it out for myself, or I needed that experience to face the opposition that was to come, and it did! (1st of two responses.)

(IT'S IN THE WORD!) God is STILL the same "Yesterday, Today & For-ev-er!")
It's Good to desire spiritual gifts, don't be jealous, but do test them! God intended for All Believers to fellowship and share the benefits of the others' gifts. Find yours- thru prayer and testing. Joel 2:23, Matt.5:16

Hi again. I re-read what I wrote last night, and was concerned that I could be misunderstood. (The 85 word max was a challenge.) Dear Friend, I hear the voice of the Lord God Almighty and Jesus, the Christ. It never occurred to me to ask for this gift, because I stopped believing long ago. I didn't earn this. Praise Him. Listen to the voice you have named your conscience, it's the voice of God. He hears every thought that passes through your mind. If you've been hurt, forgive. Pray for help. As a Christian, you've been hearing Him all along. He loves you with all of His Being. God bless you. Deb

The moderator is correct. God desires more than anything else a close relationship with all of His people. I have actually heard God's voice on a number of occasions. But as you become a more mature Christian, God will choose to talk to you in other ways. Stay foccused on God, stay in prayer and thanksgiving, and always be listening, is the best advice that I can give to you. God is real Jesus is alive. There is nothing frightening about His voice if you belong to Him. Awe struck is what it is.

Without faith it is impossible to please our Father. Give Him praise, for He has blessed you to know He exist without ever having seen His physical presence, or heard His audible voice. The children of Israel thought they wanted to hear His voice until He actually spoke. His voice scared the hemie jemies out of them:o) Be content to hear the voice of His word as you read and meditate upon it and it resonates in your mind. He continually speaks with you through the still small voice of your conscience.

God speaks through His LOGOS (Written Word), and through His RHEMA (specific spoken word). You MUST read the Bible on a daily basis to hear God speak to you. This is because you will hear Him through His Word, and then He can speak His Rhema to you. You will then know that this Rhema is from Him, because it WILL line up with His Logos.

Sounds like you are having a one-way conversation. God wants to have a two-way conversation with you. Yes prayer is good (that is you speaking to God), but you MUST also read the Bible (this is God speaking to you).

Sue: I know God speaks to me everyday in many ways. But I have never heard God's actual voice. I know he speaks to me, whether through song, his word or through someone else. I don't know anyone that has heard the voice of God like it was in Abraham's time.

Of course people are interested. I too am very interested. Now for myself, I have never heard God in an audible voice speak to me. I have had an umption(kind a certain feeling) that something was going to happen, or I was to do a certain thing. But never an audible voice with very clear directions. However is my understanding, some people have heard an audible voice.

Sue, Hearing "voices" is not something to persue. Why? 1st you don't know who's voice you're hearing in your brain (where all sound is heard) How did the Isrealites "hear" God? Except for certain exceptions He spoke to the high priest. The people consulted the Urim and Thummim an elaborate system that involved stones worn in the breastplate of the high priest. Then it was only a "yes or no" answer....cont.

Sue: because he wants you to live by faith. If it happens, great. But Jesus said people who don't see but still believe are more blessed than those who believe because they see. I would imagine that applies to all the senses.

Besides, in the hereafter, you will know even as you are known... What a comforting thought.

Sue, God does speak to us through HIS WORD the BIBLE.

Please be careful. There are many different spirits in this world, and they are not all of or from God. Remember Satan also has his forces in this world.

Just because a person may hear a voice, this does not mean it is God's voice.

S...O---S... Distress signal.
I've been receiving that signal for someone on these blogs, two mornings in a row. It's loud, it's very loud.

Moderator's God given advice is the best, fast and pray. Those aren't glib churchy catchphrases. Those are God's keys to hear from Him.
Not a diet from food, but God's way to see and hear what you should do next.
