Aka, again they give opinions, and no Scripture. Are opinions Scripture? No. They believe the lost, of whom they were once, out of their own free will, in a fallen state, dead in sin, Spiritually dead to God, can make a good gesture towards God and find within themselves the faith to believe in God. The death sentence is upon the lost, they are children of wrath, their father is the devil, and they say, they can come to Christ without help from God. If that is not boasting I do not know what boasting is. "For the mind that is set on the flesh (all of the lost are in the flesh) is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law indeed it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God"

Romans 5..sin abounds but GRACE much more ABOUNDS.

DOES NOT MEAN that it's ok to sin, because Grace abounds. It means God's GRACE IS BIGGER/more ABUNDANT beyond any sin, that even HITLER could have found salvation in Jesus Christ.

18Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation, even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. ALL WHO RECEIVE THE GIFT OF SALVATION....Jesus Christ....Salvation is a PERSON, not a religion!!!

21That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

ABOUND means PLENTIFUL/ PROLIFERATE---NOT LIMITED!!!!

Mima, God did not force the thief to believe. He saw and he chose to believe. Remember that the bible says that salvation appeared to ALL men so none of us are without excuse, brother.
---miche3754 on 7/27/10

miche, Amen.Let the wicked forsake their way, and the unrighteous person their thoughts: and let that one return to Yhwh, and he will have mercy upon that one, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. You a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness."Today is the day of salvation. Today if you all will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. Here I stand at the door and knock, if any one hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to that one and will supper with that person, and that person with me. Come now, and let us reason together, says Yhwh, though your sins be as scarlet, they will be as white as snow, though they be red like crimson, they will be as wool."
---Eloy on 7/27/10

I believe God does WANT to save everyone BUT because man won't turn to him like the thief on the cross did, they get righteous judgment.
I believe the effectual fervent prayer of the righteous prevaileth much.
That prayer DOES cause God to change HIS mind.
Moses, Jonah, just to name two who prayed and God turned away his wrath.
I mean isn't the 2nd command to love our neighbor as ourselves? Shouldn't we pray that they too get the same salvation? That God will do the same with them as he did with the thief on the cross?
We must seek proper understanding of verses as they apply to find the truth.
---miche3754 on 7/27/10

Faith is taking GOD at His WORD. Not SOMEONE ELSE'S interpretation of what they THINK a verse means. When you are saved, the WORD of God is LIVING and Powerful. The Holy Spirit enlightens us ...not as a group, but as we individually grow up In Christ.

Many here, who promote a peculiar kind of GRACE are actually pharisees. Why? Because the Pharisees took God's word and ADDED/ re-arranged/re-interpreted it, beyond what God said. Anyone who does this is a Pharisee whether they like it or not.

Are they baby Christians? I don't think so. Were the Pharisees babies??? No!

God GROWS UP Baby Christians. HINT!!! Some here NEVER GROW!!!
---kathr4453 on 7/27/10

That was under the law.

We are now are on the dispensation of grace. Jesus told Nicodemus you must be born again born of the water & of the Spirit. Jesus told Nicodemus, & Jesus Is telling us also because we are under grace.

Being born again of the water & of the Spirit Mark 16 v 16, Acts 2 v's 37 - 41 Fulfills Matt.28 v's 19 - 20 Is works. You will Not get to heaven without it.

I don't believe statement is biblical.

"God didn't give him faith to believe Christ!"
---mima on 7/27/10

That the Holy Spirit was NOT upon or even in the Thief on the Cross, YET HE BELIEVED and was saved! How was that possible?
He believed Christ was who he is. He didn't breath on him like the disciples.
He believed what he saw with his own eyes.
God didn't give him faith to believe Christ! The Thief CHOSE to believe the truth.
He got his reward for making the Right choice!
---miche3754 on 7/26/10

Miche, correct. The THIEF KNEW he was a sinner deserving to die. He also KNEW who Christ was , and heard about the KINGDON saying REMEMBER ME.... HE ASHED FOR MERCY!!!!

The MAN first spoke, then Jesus said....TODAY you will be with me in paradise.

IT's so Simple!

Aka, thanks for what you said. What I try to do is give the Word of God and not too much of my opinion. Many argue and never give Scripture.
Here is what I understand about many here on line. They do not know who the God of Scripture is. I say this because when they answer, they compromise God's deity. People should know first who God is. Find every passage that has to do with God. His Omniscience, Omnipotence, Omnipresence, Immutability, Justice, wrath, etc. If they read about God and made God the center of their believes, they would have no problem answering passages in Scripture. Because as far as God is concern He never changes. But people do not want to take the time, they are happy to argue without knowing God.
---MarkV. on 7/27/10

Aka 2:
I'm not saying this people are not saved, but that they do not know God as He really is. Some call me a baby Christians as if not to insult me, but maybe I am. As far as God is concern I know very little about Him, that is why I continue to study with the help of the Spirit. You gave a passage, "For He says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whomever I have mercy and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion" This are words of God. And what do people do? They want God to have mercy on everyone, and compassion on everyone. And that is not what He says. "Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens"
So what do people do? They compromise what He says.
---MarkV. on 7/27/10

Yes AKA, I am fine actually. Great and blessed.

I am trying a new thing by NOT saying a person is right or wrong. I don't want to ever think that one of my fellow Christians on here is NOT Christian nor ever say they aren't either.
It is just usually the wrong application of a verse or not enough understanding. That is just young in the spirit. I know I myself have much to learn.
I believe if there are Christians on here who agree with a scripture (not just 1 or 2 but many) I find they are usually right and we should do our best to try and find out why these people are in 1 accord. If we do, we find the truth.
---miche3754 on 7/26/10

It is possible, but I wouldn't want to take that chance. Because God may not save that person. Not everyone that says, "Lord Lord" will make it into heaven. A person shouldn't gamble with their life with God. It is a dangerous thing to fall in the hands of a Living God.
---Rebecca_D on 2/14/08
The passage you referred to in Matthew 7:21-23, is speaking of people who lived for some period of time "serving the Lord" and then dying and finding themselves standing before God's Judgment throne. Standing there depending on what they had done for the Lord, they will be denied because they didn't accept the finished work of Christ on the Cross.
---tommy3007 on 7/26/10

Mike I am not trying to be hateful in any way.
I am trying to get people to understand that some of us ARE in that state and we need to not argue nor waste time arguing with them if they don't understand.
When I say baby Christian, I am saying we should be patient with them. I apologize if the term offends you. I didn't mean it in that way.
We should not get upset with them, but continue to teach the word.

You know I like being taught because you and I have had several conversations and you have shown me many things.
I humble bow to anyone who has good understanding of scripture and is willing to teach me.

Baby Christians trying to teach meat that they don't understand.
---miche3754 on 7/26/10

Please don't refer to other believers in such a manner. Are you showing Christ's love for your fellow brother or sister?

We seem so smug here, we know our truth (or think we do) and are content to beat each other over the head with it.

Do we really believe verses like this?

Psalm 25:9 "The humble He guides in justice, and the humble He teaches His way".

Do you want to be taught?
---Mark_Eaton on 7/26/10

Please post!!

JackB, you got it right brother!

Some here just repeating the doctrines of man. Those would be the baby Christians that give the meat WITHOUT understanding the meat.

We must pray for them to understand.

That the Holy Spirit was NOT upon or even in the Thief on the Cross, YET HE BELIEVED and was saved! How was that possible?
He believed Christ was who he is. He didn't breath on him like the disciples.
He believed what he saw with his own eyes.

You see baby Christians twisting the word of God again.

They say you can't believe Christ without the Holy Spirit, YET, the book of ACTS testifies that is a lie.

Who are you going to believe?
The Baby christians or the Word of God?

They don't understand that Christ died for all sin SHOWING he is the son of God.
Yet the baby denies this real truth.

What does Jesus say to those who deny this truth that HE died for the sins of the world?

Baby Christians trying to teach meat that they don't understand.

Acts 19:2:
And finding some disciples he said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed? So they said to him, "we have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit"
The question refects Paul's uncertainty about their spiritual status. Since all Christians receive the Holy Spirit at the moment of Salvation Romans 8:9, 1 Cor. 12:13), their answer revealed they were not Christians. They had not received Christian baptism, ('having been baptized only 'into John's baptism') giving evidence that they were not Christians for verse 2:38, "Repent and let everyone of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall recive the gift of the Holy Spirit"

Rom 9:15 For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion."

I will not try to put God in a box, but if you want mercy, be merciful, if you want peace, then be peaceful, if you want family, then be fruitful, if you want to move God, then move.

Thank God for His mercy and compassion and justice.
---aka.joseph on 7/25/10

I understand what Miche is saying.

These men were "disciples" and were repentant and were baptized by John.

What this tells us is that man is not TOTALLY depraved. These men didnt even have the Holy Ghost yet. They responded of their own free will and repented.

When they were baptized in the name of Jesus, THEN he laid hands on them and they received the Holy Ghost.

And also... from the mouth of Christ himself...
(This is gonna cause a lot of arguments)

Luke 11:13
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
---JackB on 7/26/10

Atheist, It does sound unfair that a terrible sinner can be saved and indifferent "nice guy" unbelievers are eternally lost!

But that is love!! LOVE is NOT fair, at times. The story of the Prodigal Son illustrated that!

Such love can save any sinner, including the "nice guy" unbeliever if he does not subbornly reject the Holy Spirit offering him overwhelming love that could save him?

God has a problem on His hands with folk like this. If He forced them and took them to heaven they would be most miserable praising God and worshipping Him!

I believe the Bible teaches after punishing them for their (few?) sins, He will allow them, to "be as though they had not been." Obadiah 16.
---Ernest_1 on 7/26/10

No, Cluny not the same conversation.
That happened in the beginning of the book of Acts. Chapter 2 I believe. Same concept, though.
I am talking about chapter 19.

My point is that no one receives the indwelling of the Holy Spirit until AFTER they Believe in Christ.
The Holy Spirit convicts a sinner of their sin, and ministers to them and tells them the truth. That Christ is the son of God and he died for their sins.
Its through the teaching and preaching of God's word that the Holy Spirit of God does the drawing.
And that is also why I believe in death bed salvation.

Jack B, that day did come, found out they were wrong, they taught what you are teaching, salvation by the will of man. But Scripture teaches that God does give you the ability to come to Christ, without that ability no one would, yet they claim it came from within them.

"For who sees anything different in you? What do you have that you did not receive" If then you received it, why do you boast as if you did not receive it?" 1 Cor. 4:7.
"And he said, "This is why I told you that no one can come to Me unless it is granted him by the Father" John 6:65
"No one can come to me unless the Father who send Me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day" John 6:44.
---MarkV. on 7/26/10

Jack B 2: I cannot say the same to you, that one day you are going to question your churches teachings because you have what is called "Theological bias" which means you were taught something, you believed it, you defend it, and it will be almost impossible for you to let go of it. And here is what I believe, that you will find out the real Truth of God only if the Holy Spirit reveals it to you. It's still up to God. You can have all the knowledge and wisdom, but no spiritual discernment on the Truth of this doctrine of Election. "For so many are called, but few are chosen" Matt. 22:14.
"No one know the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him" Matt. 11:27.
---MarkV. on 7/26/10

Mark, one day youre gonna question your churches doctrine, read the Bible for yourself and let the Holy Ghost teach you.

Ive done it with my denomination and Im sure many others here have. Baptists are not FULL of truth. I dont believe anyone has ALL the answers.

More than 1 person here has supplied you with the "very word of God" as well.

Heres some more...

Psalm 145:8,9

The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion, slow to anger, and of great mercy.

The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.
---JackB on 7/25/10

"Those people in Acts believed"

The point is they believed BEFORE they received the Holy Spirit. BEFORE they even knew about the Holy Spirit.

Some say a person can't believe until the Holy Spirit indwells them and makes them believe. If this is true, explain the book of Acts to me. Is it lying or is it telling the truth?
I say TRUTH
The Holy Spirit was unknown to these people in Acts. Just like with all who are lost.
The Holy Spirit indwells you and seals you AFTER you believe.

That is what the ENTIRE book of Acts tells us.

It tells the steps of salvation.

Repent, Believe, Holy Spirit indwells, then seals you.

\\"Those people believed BEFORE they recieved the Holy Ghost.

Believed WHAT?

If we are thinking about the same group of people, they had not even heard of Jesus, because they knew only John's baptism.

Therefore, they were hardly believers in Jesus, were they?

But getting back to the original question, yes, you can.

Remember St. Dismas, the repentant thief.

A cross is hardly a bed, but the principle applies.

But forgiveness does NOT change the past into a record of achievement.

Deathbed Repentances:

I love the closing invitations of Revelation 22:17 "And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely."

I have helped a number come to Christ on their deathbeds and I am sure that the love and grace of God will cover those who sincerely repented. Thank God, we are not their judges! - But the One who loved them enough to die for them will be!

Unfortunately these people will not have the joy of spending eternity with loved ones and friends that they worked to bring to Christ, but they will still be happy to be saved and be there.

Amen sister!! Acts 19:2
---JackB on 7/23/10

Those people in Acts believed before they were endwelled by the Holy Spirit and sealed by the Spirit into one body in Christ Jesus. They could not believe while lost. In the spiritual realm, when judged by God's standards, the unsaved sinner is incapable of good. The natural man is enslaved to sin, he is a child of Satan, rebellious toward God, blind to the truth, corrupt, and unable to save himself or to prepared himself for salvation. In short, the unregenerate man is dead in sin, and his will is enslaved to his evil nature. "And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your heart, God made you alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses" Colo. 2:13. The very word of God.
---MarkV. on 7/23/10

part 2:
"Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man (Adam,) and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.." Romans 5:12.

"For the mind that is set on the flesh (unbelievers) is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law, indeed, it cannot," Those who are in the flesh cannot please God" Romans 8:7,8. If a lost person could on his own free will accept Christ as His Savior, he would have something that would please God, but the Word says, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
"For you are of your father the devil, (unbelievers) and your will is to do your father's desires" John 8:44.

My Bible tells me that after we accept Jesus Christ by faith, the Holy Ghost comes to live in us and we are new creations. Born into Gods family. Adopted as sons.
"That is the spiritual birth."

That is not the Spiritual Rebirth, that is when you are endwelled by the Spirit and sealed.
Rebirth happens when you are brought to Spiritual life. All who are lost are spiritually dead. Dead in sin. "For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law, indeed, it cannot' Those who are in the flesh cannot please God"

My Bible tells me that after we accept Jesus Christ by faith, the Holy Ghost comes to live in us and we are new creations. Born into Gods family. Adopted as sons.

That is the spiritual birth.

We should be happy that our brothers come home (regardless of whether its at age 20 or 90) and are given the same reward as those who have labored their whole lives serving the Lord.

See the parable of the Prodigal Son.

Falls along the same lines as what Mima said.

God is completely powerful,
completely loving,
completely perfect.
Would you give up on saving a drowning victim you'd warned 100 times? Would you stand on the shore and 'tsk-tsk' as they suffered?

If you, as a mere human being, would have the compassion to forgive, what would our perfect God do?

God is with all of us, even the folks some of you believe are beneath you. God has never lost a soul yet...and He never will.

The only way a person can get saved at anytime is if Jesus is convicting them of their sins. Meaning he has to be drawing them to him. One can't say Lord save me, if the spirit isn't dealing/drawing them to the Lord. It is dangerous to wait until a person is on their death bed to call on the Lord to be saved, it may just be too late. A person can't get saved anytime they want to.

Repentance and salvation are different. On your deathbed you might repent and wish to go to Heaven. However, it is TOO LATE. Those who rejected Christ all their lives cannot, in my opinion, be saved by calling out 'Lord, Lord' on their death beds. (By this I do not mean they that were deceived by their church or religion I mean ones that chose evil over good)

I don't believe in soul sleep or other SDA interpretations of the Word.
I don't believe in cheap grace vs. costly grace, or eternal security, inclusion or religious churchy manmade gospels. I don't believe in man's purpose driven goals over the sacrifice that Jesus Christ paid, for all. Jesus paid the price for all.

To anyone facing death, call on the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Cindy: While I do agree with all you've said. But you must remember that God has to convict that person of their sins first. They can call upon God all to save them but unless he is dealing with their heart, they won't be saved (convert over to Christ).

Yes. But seldom is it real repentance. True repentance. Remember God chooses. Not impossible, nothing is with God. Never think, well, I will get saved tomorrow, because tonight, God may take your life.

Yes. Yesterday there was another deadly college shooting.
Students ran for their lives.

Yes, you can be saved when death is staring you in the face.

It's possible, but, we are warned in the Scriptures that "TODAY is the day of Salvation." It is never wise to put off Salvation until some "future time" for you're running your own soul at risk. GOD will not be mocked. If He says "Choose ye this day Whom ye will serve", then He means just that, and GOD simply is not a "game" player. Your soul is much too valuable. Don't risk "putting it off 'til the 'last minute'"!

Mat 20:13 But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny?

Yes, a person can be saved at anytime they call Jesus.(ACTS 16:31) However, having worked in the medical field over 20 years, and seeing more people die than I can remember, I can tell you don't wait for the last minute, because most weren't calling on Jesus for salvation.

It is possible, but I wouldn't want to take that chance. Because God may not save that person. Not everyone that says, "Lord Lord" will make it into heaven. A person shouldn't gamble with their life with God. It is a dangerous thing to fall in the hands of a Living God.

yes, if you're lucid.

Yes!! Yes!! Yes!! Have been involved with at least three cases where the person was on their deathbed. And I heard with my ear them call on the Lord Jesus Christ for their salvation. If John 6:37 is true those people are in heaven this hour.
