Tommy ... perhaps you posted: .."Actually, April 1st has been declared a "national" holiday! It should now be referred to as NATIONAL ATHEIST DAY!" on April 1st, but it was not published till the follwong day!
---alan_of_UK on 4/8/08

Tommy, on that I must agree! A fool says in his heart, there is no God.

(Interested in a Spaghetti tree? LOL)
---NVBarbara on 4/7/08

Well! NVBarb, I guess I can say "April Fool" to you. It's not "really' a holiday, but it should be for those who say there is no God.(lol)
---tommy3007 on 4/7/08

Where is that Tommy? Everybody worked, mail got delivered, banks open etc. Not a US holiday.
---NVBarbara on 4/5/08

Actually, April 1st has been declared a "national" holiday! It should now be referred to as NATIONAL ATHEIST DAY!

"Unlike most of the other nonfoolish holidays, the history of April Fool's Day, sometimes called All Fool's Day, is not totally clear. There really wasn't a "first April Fool's Day" that can be pinpointed on the calendar. Some believe it sort of evolved simultaneously in several cultures at the same time, from celebrations involving the first day of spring". I checked many sites and none mentioned anything about AFD meaning to discredit as being fools for believing in the resurrection.

Spaghetti trees: The BBC television programme Panorama ran a famous hoax on April's Fools Day in 1957, showing the Swiss harvesting spaghetti from trees. They had claimed that the despised pest the spaghetti weevil had been eradicated. A large number of people contacted the BBC wanting to know how to cultivate their own spaghetti trees!

Well, Jack, if April Fool's Day originally was meant to discredit as as being fools for believing in the resurrection, this is not what I find to be how people understand the day, today. What someone else intended does not decide what my intentions are.

I'd say just make sure your friends understand your joke.

I got in a neat one. I was bicycling to shop, and an SUV ran a deep puddle's water over me, "hugging" my waist. I took this as a joke hug from the LORD (o:

nvBarb, maybe you could use Elder's coffee for a cleaner, it probably could dissolve most anything. Nah, on second thought it's too dangerous, and I'd hate to think what would happen if Knothead got hold of it.
---Eloy on 4/2/08

YIKES Eloy do you think I have a death wish? Elder's coffee, Lord deliver me! I always have music playing, it soothes my spirit. Some lively music gets me working faster, I need that sometimes! Help? He's the one I have to clean up after! :-) But Knothead helps me some!
---NVBarbara on 4/2/08

To me this is just another day. It was a beautiful day today. If a person should happen to play a joke on someone, just make sure that person has a sense of humor. Life is too short to take everything serious. Alot of people need to lighten up a little. I agree Sag, gasoline/diesel is way too much. The prices here in WV are $3.39 a gallon for gas and $4.09 for diesel. I agree that the truckers should protest as we all should.
---Rebecca_D on 4/1/08

nvBarb, Spring cleaning, doesn't sound much like fun. You could try turning on some AM upbeat music, maybe Steve would help you, but if it doesn't work you could always try some of Elder's black coffee.
---Eloy on 4/1/08

Prices for gasoline and diesel fuel are "too high".

Today, there was a truckers protest across that nation. The drivers can't earn enough money to continue driving. Some drivers have already switched to other types of work.

I agree that the prices for fuel are high, but what can we do about that? Not much.

What do other bloggers think?

My birthday, April 14. The first day of April is atheist day. Psalm 14:1 The fool has said in his heart, "there is no God". They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none who does good.

Jack is right, dating back to the early ages, where one is chosen to be king for a day in Mockery.Similar to the triumphant entry into Jerusalem. However "Fools rush in where Angels dare to tread."

Wake up guys, all your words are useful, however I'm guessing that Trish was just setting up an 'What's Up' for April blog. No comment on April fools really needed.
I PLAN to see the rainy season finally come to a close this month! I've been going through closets packing up Winterwear. I've got MUCH Spring cleaning to do. After being gone while taking care of my family, I still have lots to do, hubby dear doesn't have the 'cleaning gene'! Happy April!

A wise man fears and departs from evil,
But a fool rages and is self-confident.

He who walks with wise men will be wise
But the companion of fools will be destroyed.

Proverbs

Do you see a man wise in his own eyes?
There is more hope for a fool than for him.

Like a manman who throws firebrands, arrows, and death,
Is the man who deceives his neighbor,
And says, "I was only joking!"
---Ted on 4/1/08

Proverbs

Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble
Is like a bad tooth and a foot out of joint.

Whoever has no rule over his own spirit
Is like a city broken down, without walls.
---Ted on 4/1/08

Proverbs

As in water face reflects face
So a man's heart reveals the man.

He who trusts in his own heart is a fool,
But whoever walks wisely will be delivered.

A fool vents all of his feelings,
But a wise man holds them back.
---Ted on 4/1/08

Proverbs

Do you see a man hasty in his words?
There is more hope for a fool than for him.

Make no friendship with an angry man,
And with a furious man do not go,
Lest you learn his ways
And set a snare for your soul

It is honorable for a man to stop strife,
Since any fool can start a quarrel.

The foolishness of a man twists his way,
And he who speaks lies shall perish.

A fool has no delight in understanding,
But in expressing his own heart.

The lips of the wise disperse knowledge,
But the heart of the fool does not do so.

I don't usually do anything on April Fool's Day, except for wish my grandpa a happy birthday. Although, my mom did fool him one year without even knowing it! I called in the morning to wish him a happy birthday, assuming he knew it was me. Later, my mom called, and he's like, didn't you call already? She says no, that must have been Katie!
---Katie on 4/1/08

I have never heard of the origins of this day before but I won't be participating anyway as I think it is something that we should have grown out of long ago. As all my children are adults I am not really expecting anything to happen today that would not have happened anyway - regardless of the date.
---RitaH on 4/1/08

Still expecting Christ to appear in my life. That doesn't change no matter what day of the month it is.

On the more practical side, the one who was a fool yesterday will still be a fool today unless he received Christ.

It is uncertain as to the civil origin of April Fool's Day. However alluding to be wiser than setting out upon empty errands, in 1602, Nicholas Breton wrote in his, The Mother's Blessing: "Esteeme a horse, according to his pace, But loose no wagers on a wilde goose chase."
---Eloy on 3/31/08

I've heard Christians should not participate in this, as it grew out of mockery of the Resurrection of Christ!

(I was going to start a blog about this, but decided this will do.)
