Prayer In School For All

How many here would support prayer in schools if that meant equal time for Buddhist, Hindu, Wiccan, and Muslim prayer, too?

Catherine-Did I sound religious? Sure hope not, that is one spirit I don't want to be a part of. Passionate follower of Christ is my desire.

Prayer is allowed in school. Unless of course you mean corporate cohersive forced prayer. Then to make it acceptable it should start - Our father, mother, higher power, nonbeing, . . . Think I will stick to teaching my kids at home about God. Let the teachers deal with math, reading, writing, etc.

Don't you worry about that, I always do. I just don't always sound so religious.

Catherine-give God the glory, wisdom comes from Him. God Bless you too.

Much of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence was based on the bible. Ben Franklin declared that we could not establish a nation without God's help. If this country is founded on God, why do people live here who serve or pray to another god? When we had prayer in school to the true God, school was different. We didn't have all these shootings. Maybe we should let them pray. Jesus is above every name. We serve a living God. They don't. What could their "prayers" produce?

Jack I mean there is but one God. Christianity is the only true religion. So, ofcourse, the answer to your question is YES. We need God's help. Any other god that you might pray to can do absolutely zero for the human race. And this true God which I speak of is the human race's Creator. So, why not only talk to the Creator of heaven and earth and everything therein. Just pure logic and faith! +++

Hello Jack:: I don't know if you understood me at all.I dont believe I said what you interpret. Prayer is an integral part of our upbringing, it acknowleges our Trust in God and as such should not be removed from the education of Children. This removal relegates our children away from God who is our sole purpose for living in His existance.Hope I helped.Belling the cat is a different story.

BTW Jack:: when I was in School at the startof the day The prayer would be said AUDIBLY Our Father Hail Mary and glory be" ALL would stand RESPECTFULLY with heads Bowed NO objections as this was the rule of the School. You come to My House Please obey My Rules. If Not Seek your freedom of expression elsewhere or mentally observe your own thing. This is a christian or Catholic Institution.

The joyful worship of the Lord should not produce discord. I worship God all day long. Wouldn't it be great if kids knew they had that same freedom? Wouldn't it be great if every kid knew that God was with them at every moment of the day and night?

Wouldn't it be great if every kid knew God was listening, and all they had to do was ask, and that no one has the right to squash what is in their precious hearts?

catherine: **However, God's people should not bow to any laws which are contrary to God's laws. **

Do you mean that only Christian prayers should be allowed in public schools?
---Jack on 4/9/08

A better idea would be to let each person, whatever their religion, to take a few moments during their day and say a prayer in their own way. This time could be set aside purposely to pray. I would support the Buddhist,Hindu etc..I may not agree with their prayers and their religion but I would respect them and what they do. That would be the best choice.

Dumb question! Those religions are not praying to the real, true, God. There can only be one God. The answer is no. We don't need to make God any angrier than He already is.>>>However, God's people should not bow to any laws which are contrary to God's laws. Talk to Him anywhere, any place. God says we can.

So, Emcee, if Christians are allowed to lead vocal audible prayers in public schools, you're saying that adherents of other religions should have equal time.

Do I understand you properly?

(I can't help wondering where people got the idea that prayers in public schools would all be evangelical Christian devotions.)

ONE Creator - FACT::This creator is envisioned in the mind, people who pray use this as a yardstick in conjunction with their intellect,by praying we invoke that Creator by acknowleging HIM as Director. Why do we Feel ashamed to seek Him openly If we believe in Him. Is it not better, than deleting Him from our daily activity while seeking His love.Is this a message we should be teaching Our off spring and Future generations. Our most precious Commodity "OUR CHILDREN"

If you are ashamed to ask GOD for Guidance then you should declare Openly That you have No use for Him at least you cannot be termed a HYPOCRITE.It is amazing how we can send the wrong Massage to those who are in OUR care.Is it Pride or Ignorance.?

I am a public school teacher. I could not lead my class in a prayer that would be any old prayer for any religion, as it would violate my personal beliefs. I would prefer that people pray on their own time, at home, and leave school for the secular study.
---Trish9863 on 4/8/08

I think a few moments of silence might be useful. But I don't think school prayer in general is a good idea. That is unless it is a Christian school.
---NVBarbara on 4/8/08

I would not wish to see this in schools. Christians have the capability to pray whenever and wherever they wish, silently. God hears ever though others do not. We can pray at length or for a few seconds as and when appropriate to our needs and opportunities. Those who need a particular setting, structure, leader etc. are at a great disadvantage where prayer is concerned.

Nope, I'd rather keep it as it is, NO PRAYER, but they can't stop a real Christian from praying anywhere he/she is.

That's why this policy doesn't really hurt so much.

Once my father was on a school board. He was very lenient towards the Catholic children riding the public schools buses. This caused him untold trouble but he never voted against them riding the bus. He said public monies are to be used for public purposes. And I would add public monies or not to be used for any particular denomination. Once prayers are aloud in the schoos by individual denominations. You have a crossing of that line of public monies being spent for the public good.

I think kids of all faiths should be allowed to pray--but usually in like a time of silent prayer, also if it's silent prayer, it won't bother kids who don't want to pray at all.
