The writer of Hebrews in Chapter 10 and 11, makes it perfectly clear that we no longer needed the professional priests. To have grace is to not need priests. To have a personal relationship with God, means priests are only an obstruction to the process.

As far as a priest to offer the sacrifices commanded before Christ, yes this priestly ministry was destroyed.

We need no more to sacrifice lambs to atone for our sins, because Christ was the true sacrifice who atoned for all sin.

But Christ clearly asks some to be shepherds of His flock, and we see positions as preachers and elders and such in the early church.

priests and pastors are servants of the Lord. They live their whole life serving God and the church. The sacrifice most all earthly desires. They are not materialistic nor search for those things. They devote every minute of their lives to God alone and serving His church. WE need these men as role models in our society.
Therefore the priesthood is not destroyed.
---Paul on 7/1/08

No, the Priesthood is alive and well.
Not, everyone is a Priest like Jesus.
First only men can be Priest. Women are excluded right away. Jesus had to undo Adam's sin.

2nd, why would Jesus give a command at the Last Supper to continue with His Body and Blood as the Passover Lamb, if he knew it be destroyed?

Remember Jesus told Peter the gates of netherworld shall not prevail against it. Matthew 16:18. The Priest will continue until Jesus returns. Not like the Old Law, but as John 6, Jesus being the True Gift. Holy Euchrist.

Permanent opening of God's presence to man and man's direct access to God through the atoning death of Christ. All ceremonial services of priests and sacrifices would be done away for the Christian believer. The veil was rent top to bottom. And the earth shook as Judgment was placed on everyone by God who was involved and wrongly crucified our Lord Jesus Christ. Also, a great blow to Satan's kingdom. Praise God, forever.

Jesus said, "fulfill", not destroy. And in Hebrews 7 we see how the priesthood has been *changed*, again not saying any priesthood is destroyed or extended > "For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there is also a change of the law." (Hebrews 7:12)

Does this mean a *partial* change of the Levitical priesthood? > "For it is evident that our Lord arose from Judah, of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood." (Hebrews 7:14) That's not just a partial change (o:

We are all called to be priests, in fact a royal priesthood. It has taken a new role, that of ministry by every believer, Christ said we would we would do what He did and even greater.

Consider, "If Jesus Christ is our High Priest (and He is), then the OLD covenant had to be replaced, because Jesus was not of the Levitical line." Jesus Christ fulfilled the old covenant and replaced it with a better one. Our requirements now are much simpler. Receive salvation throught the blood of Christ, love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and love your neighbor.

No, but by the blood of Jesus we all have a right to enter the Holy of Holies. We are all entitled to the powers a priest has, which means the gifts Jesus promised in Ephesians 6 and elsewhere. The priests have been 'defrocked' and we are all asked to pick up our share of the workload. There is a place for missioners, pastors, teachers, prophets and preachers, though.

This answer is very explanatory."
"The purpose of the OT priest was to act as mediator between man and God as regarding the Law. At the death and resurrection of Christ, who is now our mediator, the priesthood was no longer needed. (Heb 4:14)"

Today we have many denominations that continue to have the office of priest. And thereby belittle the dignity of the Lord Jesus Christ. I tend to believe that many Protestant pastors fit this category also.

well scripture actually tells us that jesus is now our high my answer would be yes.the veil was wrent because the animal blood sacrifice would no longer be accepted by God,and actually was llllllno longer effective.jesus had become the one time sacrifice for the sins, past ,preent, and furture, of the world.

God Bless!! This is an excellent verse for this blog! 1 Peter 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an Holy Priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

We are being built up (as the Levitical priesthood was) to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

1) Only the high priest, for the souls of men, could enter past the veil into the most holy place (the oracle of the house), where the glory God resides (2Chr.5:7, 14). But now we have a great high priest Jesus the Son of God which is passed into heaven, the most holy place & resides in the oracle of the house at the right hand of God (Heb.4:14).
---Shawn.M.T on 4/17/08

2) When the veil was rent the priesthood was not destroyed but extended to all mankind through Christ.

Jesus Christ resides in the position of High Priest of everyone that partakes in the heavenly calling (Heb.3:1). Christ has made all of us (in the heavenly calling) Kings & Priests unto God, our Heavenly Father (Rev.1:5-6), and for the reconciliation of the world we are ambassadors for Christ (2Cor.5:19-20).
---Shawn.M.T on 4/17/08

Jesus Christ is our high priest no question about that in any Christian church.Do we need any other mediator? NO Otherwise priest is just a title.Even in the catholic church (I'm not catholic) I'm pretty sure it just means pastor in other words a title.

The *Levitical* priesthood was ended . . . not destroyed, but *fulfilled* in Jesus. "'Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill,'" Jesus says (Matthew 5:17). Jesus did not come to destroy the Law, of which the priesthood is part. And we in Christ Jesus are His "royal priesthood" (1 Peter 2:9). You ALL are "being built offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ." (1 Peter 2:5).

One of the most destructive false doctrines for Christians - drawing the Body of Christ back under the Law.
These will be deceived and lose their inheritance. Matt 16

The deceived are being told to keep the Law combined with being told that they under grace.
What's the harm? Condemnation and placing themselves back under the Curse.

Only Jesus Christ redeems us from the Law.
Cursed is everyone who does not continue to keep all 613 laws in order to be justified by the Law.
---MMR on 4/17/08

When a Christian, redeemed from the curse of the Law by the blood of Jesus Christ, turns back to the Law - made dead by Jesus - that person has walked out from under grace and the blood. All 613 laws must be kept in order to be justified.

No one has the luxury to select a few laws that they find appealing and add them to the New Covenant.

No one is justified by the Law in the sight of God.
The person that selects even a few, places themselves back under the Curse.
---MMR on 4/17/08

The Law of sin and death was put away.
Jesus Christ redeemed mankind.

Jesus preached the Gospel, performed miracles everywhere He went.
Jesus Christ unveiled the last days.
