Catholic Becomes Born Again
I'm a former Catholic, and now I'm born again and everything changed. Now my Catholic friends and family are outraged, especially when I talk about how wonderful Jesus is. Why? I experience His love and peace and they are angry? Why?

Greyrider - Your not making sense. If you don't need Purgatory for salvation, why would you need to be purified? Jesus said nothing of this, and you and your religion have it all twisted around. Read just the Bible, not a Catholic Bible which has many Catholic invented untruths. I also was a Catholic for many years before God revealed His truth to little old me.
- Congratulations brother. Jesus is preparing a place for you. God bless. |

How can we be purified or perfect, even in a ficticious place called Purgatory. Only Jesus was perfect. He represented the Father. We are under His rightiousness, which is represented by the blood of the Lamb (Jesus). We can do nothing more to be right in God's eye's. I know, I was a Catholic once. That's why Catholicism is nothing more than a religion, and religion won't get you a cup of coffee as far as God is concerned. Jesus hated religion. Check it out. read the Bible. |

Deceiving demons lay hold of Catholics. They tell them what to do, which pamphlets to look at or not look at, which book stores to go to or not, which websites to look at or not, what to believe on television, which newspapers to buy and believe on, and so on and on. They cannot escape the web of deceit because they are environmentally unable to get out of it. It is a mind prison. They are afraid of getting out and seeing the truth because so many of their illusions would be shattered. |

Take it from an X Catholic. Purgatory is a money making scheme for the Catholic church, but that's not the important part. What saddens me is, there are people that depend on Purgatory to save (purify) them from any imperfections that they might have. Dangerous thinking. If you believe in Purgatory, you really don't know God? It goes against why Jesus came to save. Either you believe Jesus, or your trying to do something yourself to help the process along. It's freely given if you accept it. |

When we die our spirit returns to God to await the Final day of Judgement. The spiritually dead and those that rejected the true Christ (and worshipped the false one) are destroyed in the Lake of Fire together with Hell and Death. The rest go on to eternal life with Christ. The saints witness the removal of the evil ones from the world. Since God is just, anyone who even gave a cup of water to a prophet will receive his or her reward. Do not be sidetracked by Rapture theories. |

While the RCC today may teach Greyrider that time off in purgatory is symbolic. In the Middle ages they were literal. Sins were paid for in gold coins in the coffers. Time out of purgatory could be calculsted for each relic of a dead saint visited and for certain prayers said.
The counter Reformation changed much of the RCC. Did you know that the RCC does sometims use the term Born Again? Do you know in reference to what? |
|
---Samuel on 5/15/08 |
Purgatory has NOTHING to do with salvation. All who die in Gods grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation: but after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven |
|
---Greyrider on 5/15/08 |
Indulgences have nothing to do with salvation. The "time off purgatory" teaching is symbolic at best. Those things that the Vatican teaches get you "time off" is their way of saying these things will draw you closer to Jesus, thus drawing on His Grace to achieve holiness in this life thus not needing as much purification after death. |
|
---Greyrider on 5/15/08 |
Dear Greyrider
The doctrine was taught against 1500 years ago but for over 600 years from the year 1000 to the 1700 it was taught and followed in the RCC.
Even today indulgencies that gain you time out of purgatory are granted. Since the Blood of JESUS is not enough to cleanse us from all sin. So we must spend time in purgatory. Ceremonies also give us grace to gain salvation. Also saint can give us extra merits that they earned to us. But merit can be earned by our works or theirs. |

I too am a former Catholic. It wasn't until mid life I learned the truth about salvation. It is a free gift and we can never "earn" a place in heaven. Your family is mad because you learned the truth which they refuse to believe. Too bad because as long as they believe that way they are NOT going to Heaven. A bible study partner even told how when she was in Catholic school the priest scolded her for reading the Bible, stating "If you want to know something just ask me." How sad. |

Greyrider...I think you need to have a little enlightening chat with Emcee...although I suspect he would consider you "apostate". :-) |

Kevin, if that's what you were taught, that's sad. Because if someone turned your priest in to the bishop, your priest would be excommunicated. The RCC CONDEMNED the teaching that you can earn salvation over 1500 years ago. |
|
---Greyrider on 5/14/08 |
I have lived in Africa and in South Asia. I know of many places where the RCC is the only semblance of Christianity around, in some cases for 100 miles. What would you advise someone in that situation to do: adhere to their current beliefs or attend the RCC? Mind you there is no access to any kind of transportation except walking and you cant read or write in your own language much less the KJ English. This is the case of hundreds of thousands of people. |

None of us is worthy. That's why Jesus came. He alone is worthy. Our rightiousness is like filty rags. Born Again Christians are under God's grace through Jesus Christ, His beloved son who has no spot or blemish. The Lamb of God. It's so simple that most Catholics don't get it. They think that they must do something to help earn salvation. It's a FREE gift. I was one of those Catholic's. |

So very true most Catholics do not know what their church teaches.
From the Catachism:2003 Grace is first and foremost the gift of the Spirit who justifies and sanctifies us. But grace also includes the gifts that the Spirit grants us to associate us with his work, to enable us to collaborate in the salvation of others and in the growth of the Body of Christ, the Church. There are sacramental graces, gifts proper to the different sacraments. |

It is sad how many people are blinded to the Truth of God's Word. What's funny is that reading and listening to the type of debates that take place on Christianet is what led me INTO the RCC. God's Word CLEARLY shows that only in the RCC is the FULLNESS of Truth taught. I fought it for years but couldn't deny Truth in the end. "Former" Catholics were obviously never really Catholics to begin with. |
|
---Greyrider on 5/12/08 |
I call myself a Christian and am happy to attend many denominations, in my regular travels, as long as they stick to The Book.
On the other hand Roman Catholics call themselves Catholic, rather than Christian.
I think this shows where their allegience lies. |

Bless you brother, now understand this, there is now no condemnation towards them that are in Christ Jesus. Love your friends and family, show them your faith through your works, and allow them to continue to show you their faith by their works. |

That's awesome news. God bless you. I think that there are definitely some saved people in the Catholic church and some not...just like there are most likely some saved and some not in every church. I am confident that people are being saved by grace in Catholic churches, because people are still hearing the Word of God, and God said it would not return to him void. I have a good friend who is a catholic and he and I have had some interesting yet heartbreaking discussions. |

Hi, Brother - - we have the real presence of Jesus IN us > Galatians 4:19, 2 Corinthians 3:17-18. And *we* are His body > Galatians 5:30 > "For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones." |
|
---Bill_bila5659 on 5/10/08 |
Also, Brother > Jesus says, "'For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.'" (Matthew 18:20) So, wherever two or three of us are gathered, we have the real presence of Jesus, because He is in us and with us. Each of us is "one spirit with Him," we have in 1 Corinthians 6:17. So, IN us He is present with us, right together with our *spirit* (o: |

---Bill_bila5659 on 5/10/08 |
Jesus says, "My peace I give to you," in John 14:27. So, Jesus is present in us, sharing His very own peace with us > "My peace" He clearly does say > the peace Jesus Himself experiences and enjoys on Heaven's throne, shared with us so we can even feel what Jesus is feeling in *this* peace. So, we have such real presence of Jesus IN us, while we obey God in this peace. Feeling what He is feeling is good communication, very personal (o: |

When I am outside witnessing, the people who absolutely refuse to take any information are usually Catholics on their way to or from mass. What are they so afraid of? If they do not like what is written they can put it in the waste paper basket/trash can. They refuse to touch it, lest they be saved. |
|
---frances008 on 5/9/08 |
The Truth will set them free. If they are not interested in the Truth then they do not have the Holy Spirit. If they follow doctrines that are from the devil, they are not born again. Catholics are the first to follow after new New Age authors. You can use this as your amunition against some of them. They think they are born again but they deceive themselves. |
|
---frances008 on 5/9/08 |
Greyrider if you are right that 70-80% of Roman Catholics don't know the RC teachings that is condemnation enough of the RC church. If this is so then the RC church should undertake a massive in-house education program.
In my lengthy life I have had plenty of time to learn what the RC church teaches. Also time to meet many who have come into the true light. They all say similar things to what Brother has said. |

What a contradiction!! Those people are clueless and have no idea what the RCC teaches. Rome has always taught "grace alone". There's no such thing as a non-praying Catholic. If you don't pray, you're obviously not a Catholic. |

Greyrider I didn't offer the stories as 'proof' but as evidence. They're real life-based experiences illustrating the qualitively different faith of many people I've talked with over decades. My RC friend expressed feelings constitent with other RC's with whom I've spoken. Also confirmed by RC's now in protestant churches.
My mother's confidence-not in her goodness-but in the finished work of Christ upon the cross is consistent with the confidence expressed by countless protestants. |

Emcee to remain saved by living a perfect life is a wonderful ideal, but not Scriptural.
Jesus came, died, and rose again, paying the price of our sin, right from Adam, that we may have sure and certain hope, now able to come boldly before the throne because of what Jesus accomplished.
Hope in personal goodness=no hope.
'Nothing to the cross I bring, simply to thy feet I cling.'
We do presume, only because Jesus tells us to do so,saved by His blood alone. |

Thanks to all of you who know. Now I can serve Christ with Power in the Holy Spirit. When I was a Catholic I could have sworn that I was in the right religion, but it's not about a religion. It's all about Jesus and what He did for us so we don't have to do a list of man made rules. Now I can press foward in Christ doing the works that He puts on my heart to do, not works to earn anything or favor, because I already have His favor. That is true freedom in Christ, and the way it's supposed to be. |

I have done more weeping over hardened Roman Catholic believers than any other group of people I have ever dealt with or witnessed too. First let me say: Welcome to the family of God. You are truly blessed to have come to yourself while there was yet time. Please pray for your Catholic friends, that they too, will find the true and living God. They cannot comprehend what you are saying right now, and so to deal with it, they become angry at this. Not at you. It is the Jesus in you they see.Win them with love.Remain strong and faithful in the Lord. |

Obviously, a "number" of Catholic priests were NOT evaluated competently before being ordained . . . because the ones evaluating them were spiritually impotent, and above them the cardinals who appointed evaluators were likewise not competent, and those incompetents were appointed by a pope. The RCC hierarchy is a failure, then. But Jesus is ordaining qualified pastors (1 Timothy 3:1-10). He is NOT failing (o: |

---Bill_bila5659 on 5/9/08 |
I'd say America has people I call "soft" Catholics who do not know the official Vatican teachings. They may go to Mass because they like it and the people there. But if you promote what is wrong > the wrong spirit of this will mess you up emotionally > I could not have the "rest for your souls" (Matthew 11:29) Jesus gives us while I was promoting official Roman Catholicism, nor while I was backlashing at Catholics. "There is no fear in love" (in 1 John 4:18). |

#1) Individual stories don't prove anything. Again, if 70-80% of so-called "Catholics" in the USA do not know the RCC's teachings, how can you use their lives and/or beliefs as a basis to argue against the RCC?
Warwick's story is a perfect example. This distraught man has no idea of the RCC's teaching on salvation. The RCC excommunicates priests for teaching a works-based salvation. Still, many lie, and accuse the RCC of this false teaching. |
|
---Greyrider on 5/9/08 |

To look real RCC doctrine read the catchism.
78 This living transmission, accomplished in the Holy Spirit, is called Tradition, since it is distinct from Sacred Scripture, though closely connected to it. Through Tradition, "the Church, in her doctrine, life and worship, perpetuates and transmits to every generation all that she herself is, all that she believes."[37]
The Catachism which shows how they exalt tradition is online for those who wish to read it. |

81 "And [Holy] Tradition transmits in its entirety the Word of God which has been entrusted to the apostles by Christ the Lord and the Holy Spirit.

Brother, Welcome to the YAHUSHUA's (Jesus Christ's) Sheep-fold! Your Conversion exposes their religion for what it really is, A RELIGION! Not a True Relationship with GOD. I believe that there may be some True Saints within the Catholic "church", but, comparatively few. And it's IN SPITE of the doctines of "mother church", not BECAUSE of them. The Roman Catholic "church" of today is a Babylonian church and will serve under the future Anti-Christ, the False Jesus. |

Conversely when my lovely mother died she slid peacefully out of this life confident of her heavenly destination because of what Jesus had done, not her works. We know where she is, but my RC friend doesn't because RC faith is based upon works. Have I done enough or not? |

It is called envy. They are envious because you got the real thing, and they do not. Just like Heylel was envious in the garden, and Cain envious of Abel. So many whom are without will be envious of the born-again whom have, but the good news is that those without can also have the exact samething as we do, if only they will cast off their envy and accept that what we do have. |

I was a good Catholic for over 30 years, then Jesus found me. I left the Catholic Church forever. If you are a religious Catholic and you do all the right things as far as that church is concerned, you cannot know the real Jesus. Catholics were brainwashed into thinking that their religion is the one. Catholics just don't get it, and they never will until a true Spiritual transformation takes place in their heart's. When you have the Holy Spirit, you know it. There's no mistake. |

Praying to Mary, praying to a saint, use of Rosary Beads, Pergatory, among other lies, are founded by Satan and given to man to oppress man. These have nothing to do with spiritual growth in Christ and are actually hindering Catholic's from knowing why Christ really came. Just because you hear about Jesus does not mean that know Him. Your spirit needs to be Born Again. Jesus said the you cannot enter the Kingdom of God without that. |
|
---former_catholic on 5/8/08 |
other, Congratulations! You are "Born Again" This happened to me and many others that I know. I have seen that slowly that a lot of my former catholic friends and family get saved and autoumatically wanted to leave the lies. Your on the right path. I used to think that people took offense because you leave the RCC, but I found out that it was really the devil in them as it was with me at one time, to not want the real Jesus. Satan knows, and want's them blind. |

---Gail on 5/8/08 |
#3 more TRUE RCC teachings There is no such PLACE as "Purgatory", it is an EXPERIENCE that the saved go thru prior to entering heaven. There is nothing in Sacred Tradition that is not grounded in Sacred Scripture. It is not mandatory to be a RC in order to go to heaven (but it helps) Mary and the Saints can intercede (pray to the Father) for us but they CANNOT answer prayers themselves. |
|
---Greyrider on 5/8/08 |
The RCC is not the only church where this happens. Some people will change churches because there are not any others for dating and/or marriage.
I've seen friends encounter "rage" for leaving the church that the entire family attended. Sometimes, I think that it is hard for the parents to "let go" of their kids and let them make their own choices. As long as those choices are not sinful ones, I don't see any problem with changing churches. Pray for your family. |

---Augie on 5/8/08 |
Hmm, Nicole has a point > when I first left the Roman Catholic Church, it was because I realized I could no longer tell *God* to His face that the Catholic Eucharist is Jesus Christ's body. And I backlashed against Catholics, quite competitively and with harsh criticism. But it says those in Christ will be judged "first" (1 Peter 4:17) (o: So, why was I so fast to FIRST be judging Catholics, and not myself? It is so easy to talk down on someone else > we can "welcome" the opportunity. |

#1 - I'm sure there's an exception out there somewhere, but I have never yet met an ex-catholic who even knew the basics of the Catholic Faith. They THINK they do, but what they preceive RCC teaching to be are the infamous American Catholic heresies. Studies have shown that 70-80% of people in the USA who refer to themselves as "Catholics" do not know the Vatican's teachings. (cont) |
|
---Greyrider on 5/8/08 |
#2 - These are RCC teachings: We CANNOT earn our salvation thru works. If we have true faith, the Holy Spirit will manifest works in our lives. "Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ" RC's have an obligation to study Scripture. Worship of Mary is forbidden. Jesus is NOT recrucified in the Mass. Peter was never called "Pope", but that Italian term was added to an OFFICE created by Jesus Himself. (cont) |

Frances made good points ...its heartbreaking hearing about hostility of those you love who are entrenched by fanatism ...seeking God is very personal ...your friends and family are led by fear ....when encountering their wrath always pray Christ keeps you immune from their attacks and pray for them
...remember Christ is not owned by any religious system on earth
Christ is Spiritual rock GIVEN freely to all who believe on Him (Mat 7:24,25, Mat 16:18, Luke 8:13, 1Corin 10:4) |

---Rhonda on 5/8/08 |
I suppose it's because Catholics are very protective of their religion and now see you as a defective. They believe that you must be Catholic to be saved. All you can do is to pray for them. Jesus said that "if they persecuted me, they will persecute you". The truth has set you free but it is different knowledge and experience than what your friends and family have so they are going to continue to feel threatened. Just love them:). |

The RCC claims to be the only true church so the relatives think that a person who becomes Born again has left JESUS and become lost.
The RCC is tied to tradition and does not speak about the heart searching need to be filled with the HOLY SPIRIT and be Born again. Most do not even know what the term means. Most priest do not tell thier congregation that according to RCC theology baptism as a baby makes the person born again. |
|
---Samuel on 5/8/08 |
We did not leave JESUS in the RCC. For there He is hid as a man still on the cross instead of our High Priest in Heaven.
We do not need saints or priests to speak with JESUS. They do not understand that now we have a true relationship with our Father.
Think of it this way. Before people had to let their cousin talk to the father and brother for them since they were too far away. But now we live with the Father and our Brother so we talk directly. |

#1:: I'm curious...were you one of those Catholics who say they are Catholic but really arent cuz they dont know anything about being a Catholic CHRISTIAN? People who left RCC always state they had to leave to find Jesus. We reply- Looking for Jesus they left Jesus. You had Jesus in RCC and can not be any closer or United to Him outside of the Holy Eucharist. Usually Catholics are more merciful to those who leave the Church. Your family may not be mad about you talking about Jesus. Your style might be the problem. The ex-Catholics I knew were very mean and they didn't even realize it. |

1. Anger that you effectively judged their religion and found it was the wrong one. 2. Anger that you therefore threaten their idea that they are automatically saved by being a Catholic. 3. Anger that you do not just follow the traditions of your fathers and have set yourself free. 4. Anger because they are still brainwashed into believing that you are the one who is condemned to Hell. |

Why? Because you now have something that they do not have yet. You are being led by the power of the Holy Spirit now, FOR REAL. When I was a Catholic, I thought that I knew Christ and that I was doing the will of the Holy Spirit, but NO. I had to have a real experience with Jesus and now I have Christ's power to fight sin and no longer trust in my own feeble efforts that never worked for long anyway. It's real! All you have to do is ask. Jesus said that without Him we can do nothing. |

Brother, take heart and read Matthew 5:11-12. Pray for them and love them. God is merciful. Romans 11:32. |

Mat 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. Mat 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. Mat 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. |
