There are two main reasons that healing is a controversial subject in churches: (1) a belief that the gifts and signs, and miracles are not for today (only in Bible days) - this belief makes God a liar, because He said "I am the same yesterday, today, and forever, and I do NOT change", (2) a belief that all signs, wonders, and miracles are of the devil - Jesus did these things, and He was of God - some of it is of the devil, but most is of God. If there is a Doctor or Nurse that goes to church, healing is bad, because it puts them out of a job.
---Leslie on 9/26/08

Most who have remained controversial over healing, even after hearing the testimonies, say that God only heals certain of His children. If that is so, then those "certain" are favored. Well, God has never failed me one time and He is no respecter of persons. He doesn't have "certain" children He loves more. He has already done the work and has given to every man THE measure of faith. It is our part to believe His Word and use the faith He has given us. I can give testimony after testimony after testimony of not only physical healing but emotional as well. And yet those who remain controversial over it say I am a name it and claim it word of faith believer. And yet, He has never failed me.

remember when jesus healed?almost everytime he said, YOUR DAITH HAS HEALED iam not saying we ,or they healed themselves, and iam not even saying that if you have no faith you cant be healed.what iam saying is nothing has changed since jesus walked the earth.everything that jesus did can be done today , including raising the dead, if you have faith.

There is nothing wrong with emotions, I didn't say there is. My point was our faith is not to be based on them...not to be based on what makes us feel good. Remember the patience of Job, if his faith was based on emotions, he would have left God as soon as all the calamities befell him.
---Todd1 on 6/9/08

Todd1, I think you totally misunderstood what I said. There is nothing wrong with emotion. It is God-given. I was answering the question regarding healing and how that people will walk according to what symptoms they feel in their bodies and the negative emotions (fear, etc) that those symptoms bring instead of walking by faith in what God said is true. If we are to be emotionless, then joy needs to be removed from the Kingdom of God.
---Linda on 6/8/08

Also, for the record, I believe if you ask Father to be baptized in the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking with other tongues, He will give it to you. A false tongue is manifested when someone takes a language they already know and tries to pass it off as an utterance of the Spirit. And I have never experienced a "false" healing. It is either healing or it is sickness.
---Linda on 6/8/08

As for the remaining "false" you mentioned, I don't live by that. I can feel that or not feel it. It does not change what I believe. Oh, and I am so sorry your relationship with God is so emotionless.
---Linda on 6/8/08

Linda that is so right on about walking by the five senses! I think that's what it really comes down to...the false tongues, the false healings, the false "feeling" of having the Holy Spirit come over you...all about our senses...about feeling good...great discernment!
---Todd1 on 6/2/08

Because the majority of people walk by the five natural senses instead of by faith in the accomplished work of Christ. God's people perish for lack of knowledge. Sometimes it is easier to believe that God wills for people to die that it is to believe "by His stripes we were healed" and then walk by faith. Really, though, it is not worth dividing the body over. Doesn't affect the salvation of a man's spirit if he doesn't believe in healing of the mind or the physical body.
---Linda on 6/2/08

Hosea 4:6 is a good reason. Folks are destroyed(cut off) from healing because they don't know that it's God wants them healed.

#2 In Hosea 4:6 it also says,"...because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you,"
Because folks won't believe the word they don't get healed. Religion cuts them off. You can show them scripture after scripture pertaining to healing & they still won't believe it. They reject the truth & stick to facts.
---Rickey on 6/2/08

There are many reasons why healing is a controversial issue in today's churches. One very important reason is that many of today's spiritual leaders are teaching that healing was a special spiritual gift that only Christ and His first century apostles had.

Part -1- Once I was confronted my grandmother, who insisted on me praying for her granddaughter, who had just been diagnosed(x-rayed and documented) with a tumor on the brain. The girl was 14 years old. I started to pray for the girl's healing. When the Holy Spirit told me get away from the girl's father. I then invited the young girl to step a few steps down the hall with me. And there prayed for her healing. As soon as I finished, I knew the girl was healed.
---Mima on 5/27/08

As soon as I finished, I knew the girl was healed. This miraculous healing by Almighty God was confirmed one-week later again by x-ray documentation. This may appear as a fantastic tale to you, but it is actually what happened I have no explanation as to why we to move away from the girl's father. And I clearly got the message.

Confusion still!!!
I am not wanting to be controvwersial, but must ask:
Is "the other Lisa" the original or the more recent Lisa?
Neither "Lisa" is new, both have been around for some time ... you can tell that because of the different beliefs that show.
But sometimes it is difficlut to tell which has posted.
---alan_of_UK on 5/26/08

I just haven't posted in a while.
But I am certainly not new.
I am just the other Lisa.
God bless you.
---lisa on 5/25/08

Lisa ... I'm sorry ... I did not mean to be controversial, I hoped it was helpful
It would certainly be helpful to me to know which of yuo was posting.

Have you just posted a large number of entries on "Options for Separation"?

Controversial, but you're always the first to respond to every controversy, alan.
I'll continue using lisa. I know why this happens.

Healing. I found out my friend was diagnosed with cancerous Melanoma this week. All who care are praying for a healing.
When you're faced with death, you're ready, but your family needs you, anyone who considers healing too controversial, you kick out of the camp.
---lisa on 5/23/08

Remember in Mark, Chapter 5, Jesus had to throw all of the professional mourners out.
When you're in need of a healing, all those who are already mourning and believing for death have to be thrown out of the room or even when praying. One person believing for death is not needed when you're believing for a healing.
---lisa on 5/23/08

Lisa the Original ... Perhaps the new Lisa did not know about you being here already?

Why don't yuo both adopt a more particular name?
Like Lisa the First, and Lisa the Second?
---alan_of_UK on 5/23/08

Other lisa, I see that you have taken over the name of "lisa", now.
Why do you do that?

Here's a controversy. If you're being paid to be ill, and you want to become well, there's a very slim chance you'll give up the money for healing. So slim, that I've never witnessed anyone give up money for wellness. That's the controversy. How do you become well, when you're being paid to be ill.

Prominent case in the news. A mentally ill man witnessed a crime, and everyone knows that he's telling the truth.
Because he is receiving benefits for mental illness, his testimony is not taken seriously and totally discounted.
Controversy. How do you come switch hats from mental illness to well when you really need to?
Payments for mental illness come with a heavy price. You can't break out of the box of mental illness when you're being paid to be sick. There's a stigma attached.
---lisa on 5/22/08

Healing is not nearly as controversial as being well enough to conduct yourself in Christian circles, even want to lead others, but be sick enough on the books to receive payment for being ill. That's some real controversy from a Christian perspective.
---lisa on 5/22/08

One reason I think healing is so controversial is because we tend to be so earthly minded. It's easier for us to have faith in what we see (doctors) than what we cannot see God. Also, there are those who believe healing was over with the last apostle. That thinking leaves us with no responsibility to believe God's word in this area.
---melann on 5/22/08

Also, I argue that healing is of God because God has healed me supernaturaly many times. Someone else argues that supernatural healing is not for today because maybe they have not experienced it for themselves?

Healing is such a controversial subject because it's a supernatural act of God and the carnal mind cannot understand the things of the Spirit of God. Unless it is revealed to you by the Spirit of God. Do we really understand "By His Stripes we are healed?" "He sent forth His word and Healed them?" Jesus had the Power of the Holy Spirit flowing through Him to heal the sick, the blind and raise the dead. Do we really have that kind of power?
---donna8365 on 5/22/08

healing can come in different ways.
physical, spirtual, emotional and mental.
Our faith can be restored and that is a healing! suffering is part of a fallen world our bodies are falling away along with this world. but one day we will be with the Lord and have our new bodies.
don't fret! Trust in the Lord!
Always praise him in all you do! thank him!
Glorify him in all that happens to you! And never stop asking him to heal you!
God bless you!
---lisa on 5/21/08

Healing is controversial when illness is used by some to point their finger, 'I have more faith than you do because I am well and you are not.' Utter nonsense. I was healed when I had little faith. My brother has had great faith for years, but continues to suffer. God has reasons for everything, including withholding healings.
---deb on 5/21/08

I think healing is so controversial because there are so many false people out there pretending to have the gift. People who go around in these tent meetings and take people's's horrible. If someone truly had the gift of healing they should go to a children's hospital and heal all the kids...for free. I think it's the same with tongues, so much controversy because there are so many false people claiming to have the gift of tongues by rolling around saying gibberish.

Physical and manifested reality are not controversial: for only vain and foolish dissers oppose the proven truth, and the evident witness which is presented in front of them.
---Eloy on 5/21/08

It's controversial because:

a: the results are anecdotal, not scientifically documented.

b: the results are inconsistent

c: the practitioners often neglect traditional healing methods in favor of faith healing, instead of using both together.

Faith healing works best in tandem with traditional medicine, and those who forget this open themselves to criticism.
---Nancy on 5/21/08

#1 cause: being taught "RELIGIOUS TRADITION","That has made the Word of God of no effect"...!!!Among other reasons, such as un-forgiveness, negative speaking, fear, doubt and unbelief, speaking death words instead of life words, etc. etc. just to name a few!
---Elisabeth on 5/20/08

I believe our levels of faith and also the abuse of spiritual gifts leave healing wide open to controversy. Controversy isn't always bad because there was a great deal of controversy surrounding Jesus and the disciples too.

The only controversy that I've seen, when it comes to the "Healing of the Lord" is in relations to getting past and understanding the difference between Sense knowledge & Spiritual knowledge, Then learning to walk-in them both respectfully.
---Shawn.M.T on 5/20/08

Well,I definetly believe in healing and other type miracles too.Why doesn't everyone get healed? Only God knows but if someone gets an incurable disease watch how quickly he/she begins to believe.Go to a cancer ward and see how many (even atheists) refuse prayer! You'll find very few who don't at least WANT to believe.
---shirley on 5/20/08

It's only controversial if you don't need a healing. When you do, you could care less about what anyone thinks. You'll crawl across spiritual deserts to reach the Promised Land of healing.
---lisa on 5/20/08

Because Not enough men/women have had enough Faith to do the things Jesus said we would be able to do.
Lack of Faith among other things.

I've watched God heal people that had absolutely no faith for healing. Holy Spirit is the Teacher, He leads.
Some people may not even know what their medical problem might be, doctors/tests do not reveal the source. Holy Spirit knows, He reveals exactly how to pray for someone.
---MMR on 5/19/08

Knowledge can come while you're sleeping. When you wake up with a word in your mouth, speak it out, those are absolutely some of the greatest words from the Holy Spirit. It may be a very specific scripture for that person's situation, or a way to pray.
Healing. If it was not important to pray for healing, Jesus would not have revealed it to us through His Word.
---MMR on 5/19/08

I pray for people, and I've prayed for animals, too. I've prayed for a car engine to start when I was broken down along side the road. I could tell you about a tire, blowing out on a car, with the entire side of the tire obliterated, driving on it, making it in to town, tire sinking down to the rim when the car stops. Jesus is the Healer and God is still a miracle working God.
---MMR on 5/19/08

In their hour of crisis, God's saving power through Christ, will be their testimony.
Heavy burdens, no way to reach the hospital, people will be looking to God to save them in a lost and dying world.

As for me, I can't comprehend a life without faith that believes in the miraculous, healing power of Jesus Christ.

Why is healing so contraversial today? Many Charlatans are in the world pushing people backward against thier will because it is a popular thing to do.I curse cancer and appropriate the stripes and blood. If any sins have been comited, they are forgiven. Sickness is the result of sin. Read about Yeshua and the man at the pool.

I didm,t realize it was.jesus said or should i say gave the power to wasn,t just for the apostles as many believe.
---tom2 on 5/19/08

If there's anything you need to know about healing, ask Jesus Christ. He is the Healer, Great Physician.

Churches bound up with religious legalism, fearful of the Holy Spirit, find healing too hot to touch. They go through the motions, week after week, no healing, no miracles, nothing but tradition, legalism and dogma.
I've been witnessing miracles since the crib, and I am not bound with tradition, legalism or dogma.
---MMR on 5/19/08

My mother believes in healing, miracles. She is older now and every one of her prayers are answered. It helps not to be fearful. Faith is not fear.
We've found that when we pray together for family, relatives - those prayers are answered sooner. It helps not to struggle against unbelief, fear and doubt. If someone says, "you can pray for me, I don't really believe anything good ever happens to me, but go ahead - what can it hurt", you have to pray against the current.

We have been commanded to pray for the healing of our sick.

However, there are variations of this teaching: If you say exactly the right words in the right way, supposedly you've got God by the scruff of the neck and He has to do what you say. (That's what many of them boil down to.)

THIS is what is controversial.
---kumquat on 5/19/08

"in the church", I would say it is not an issue, but obedient ones in the know are keeping it simple and trusting God to handle when and how He pleases to heal. I "would" say this (o: but believers *don't* always agree . . . like happened in the Acts 15 issue about if Christians had to be "circumcised according to the custom of Moses" (verse 1) > we can have issues but work things out *decisively*, like they did (o:
---Bill_bila5659 on 5/19/08

One reason healing is so controversial is because fake healings can be used to promote illegitimate ministers. So, it is important that we know for sure if God does heal, plus test reliably if each claimed healing is authentic > "Test all things, hold fast what is good." (1 Thessalonians 5:21) We can check reliably with God. If we are not sure > say-so is not enough. God communicates with His children and makes us sure about whatever He really wants us to believe.

Churchgoers talk about healing, churchgoers pray about healing, churchgoers state that they believe in healing, but when healing comes they will quickly turn on the one who did the praying for the healing.(I say this from personal experience) controversy does not prevent healing. It is the lack the faith that prevents healing!!!!!! I've prayed for many saw four Healings two instantaneously. Not an outstanding record!
---Mima on 5/19/08

Satan can use controversy about medical healing, in order to *decoy* our attention *away* from the healing we need the most > we FIRST need to be healed together with God in His own love so we are "one spirit with Him" (1 Corinthians 6:17). By His stripes we are "healed" (1 Peter 2:24) together with God who now is transforming us into how He is holy and loving > "as He is, so are we in this world" (in 1 John 4:17).
