the baptism of the Holy Spirit is for doing the greater works that Jesus said his disciples were to do. the power of God is anointing, strength to perform the miracles seen in Jesus ministry and Acts.

for the operation of the gifts of the Spirit in ministry to the body of Christ, for ministry to unbelievers, for worship unto God, for effective intercessory prayer, for keeping oneself in the love of God.

1 corinth.1:5-6, (7 that you not lack in any gift as you eagerly await the revealing of the Lord Jesus Christ.

i was reading that today and realized that it means that the gifts of the Spirit are not to be lacking in the body of Christ until Jesus comes.

The baptism of the Holy Ghost is not an it, nor to be referred to as an it. This is God, and yes you must have God in order to be saved. It is simply God coming into one's life, and making His home in the believer. Also, the work of the Holy Spirit in purifying God's people and ultimately judges those who refuse to believe. [baptised with fire] [Matt.3:11, Luke 3:16]

The baptism of the Holy Spirit is not what John did (the spirit had not yet been given, John 7:39).

John baptized with H2O, but we should be baptized with the living water of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:5 and 11:16, John chap. 4, John 7:38, Revelation 7:16). This is the water that flowed from Christ's side at the cross and will be POURED out in the last days (Acts 2:17).

The living water is our guarantee (1 Corinthians 1:22, 5:5, Ephesians 1:14). We shall not live by the bread of life alone, but by His spirit also (Matthew 4:4, Luke 4:4) and learn the "depths of God" (1 Corinthians 2:10).

All verses are from the RSV.

The Baptism in the Holy Ghost is a awesome experience that is very easy to recieve for anyone. You do not need it to be saved. Once you recieve Christ you are saved. But this is another experience.

Mar 11:22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
Mar 11:23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea, and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass, he shall have whatsoever he saith.

Joh 3:7 MARVEL NOT THAT I SAID UNTO THEE, YE MUST BE BORN AGAIN.

Don't take my word on this, but do take what Jesus said to Nicademus in John 3. I ask you, would you really bet against Jesus?

When we have the Holy Spirit come down upon us, we will be aware of our sins, our terrible condition. We will feel overwhelming repentance, and then we will feel great joy that Jesus paid for our sins to be saved. It is just two steps. Because of this great forgiveness, we will readily forgive those who hurt us. The transformed life will bear fruits in keeping with our changed nature. Manifestations such as prophecies, speaking in tongues etc, were the first century apostles' experience. I know I have never spoken a foreign language without learning it, nor prophecied aloud, nor healed anyone etc. And I have my doubts about those who make such claims.
---frances008 on 6/18/08

I completely agree with Rebecca_D answer to this question.
---Mima on 6/18/08

No, a person doesn't need to be baptized by the Holy Ghost to be saved, or to go to heaven. When a person is born again, they are filled with the Holy Ghost but not all are baptized by the Holy Ghost. Baptism of the Holy Ghost is one of the many gifts from God. The evidence is speaking in tongues. Not all have this gift, it is desired by that person. If anyone tells you that you need to have the baptism of the Holy Ghost in order to be saved, they are wrong. Baptism of the Holy Ghost did not come until the day of Pentecost. There were 120 people baptized by the Holy Ghost and with fire. You need to be filled with the Holy Ghost in order to go to heaven, but you do not need to be baptized by the Holy Ghost in order to go to heaven.
---Rebecca_D on 6/18/08

The Holy Spirit of Christ is the Holy Ghost, yes, "Righten and be baptized each of you onto the Name Jesus Christ, in forgiveness of sins, and you all will receive the gift who's Holy Spirit." Acts 2:38.

I think about god all the time. Why, I dont know.
I see people talking about him. Like they know something, its good to know things.
But, know it to yourself before God.
I know you all feel like youre saved, if you do, then you are. Why?
Salvation only comes from one name! Jesus Christ the Lord.
Because you believe in Jesus Christ the son of the most high God, glory be him name.
---Frank on 6/17/08

You have your free gift. For this is what God wants of you, to believe on his son.
True faith! Has no doubt!

Just as God made his word flesh, his word is him and if we follow God word (Christ) we are part of Christ and in that Gods
God, my hope is that all will be saved every one every there. I love this world so much.
People say, what about sinners other who have not Christ. Why? Have faith in God!
People dont understand me. why? Again, I dont know anything!
I am not a doctor, lawyer, important enough for the world to listen to.
---Frank on 6/17/08

God tells me, love not the world, nor the things in it, for it take you away from me.
So be it. This is of my heart. God Bless you all everyone every there.
---Frank on 6/17/08

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit isn't for salvation. This baptism is for witnessing to, evangelizing, and discipling others with power and authority. The Holy Spirit's Baptism isn't done with WATER, else John the Baptist wouldn't reference a better baptism (Matthew 3:11, John 1:33). When Christ says that "the Holy Ghost is come upon" the disciples, He speaks of the Holy Spirit's infilling [Baptism] (Acts 1:8a), which is a separate experience than Him indwelling saved persons (Acts 19:1-7).

If you believe that Jesus is the Son of God, the Holy Spirit is in you and you need nothing else. Baptism with water is a public declaration of you faith. If you are baptized as a baby, never come to believe in Christ, and just perform rituals every Sunday, get your various badges as you progress on in life (Communion, Confession, Confirmation, Marriage, Holy Orders, Last Rites) it makes not a bit of difference. God looks at your heart.

Yes I know.
I like Gen.
Thats about Christ.

Just one
Not by your own hand
Gen 3:7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked, and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
---Frank on 6/17/08

God sacrifice a Goat to cover them. Christ-like.
Gen 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

Did you ever think we are born in water and blood?
(even if you miss it he got you-r back)
Holy Spirit come when you (turn, look, take, love, think, walk, live ) to Christ.

God is all good I love him.

Frank, did you know that there was no rain until the flood of Noah? Thats why the people did not believe Noah with his warning. The water came from the ground. It's in Genesis. Sorry, I do not have the exact verse.

With water Baptism you have the Holy Spirit Baptism. All in one. This is Salvation according the Jesus. He should know.
---Nicole on 6/16/08

The baptism of the Holy Spirit is what happens to a Christian at the moment of his salvation. The Holy Spirit indwells the new believer and "baptizes" him into the body of Christ (the Church) and "seals" him unto the day of redemption.

There are churches that claim you do need the Holy Spirit baptism to be saved. There are churches that claim that you receive the Holy Spirit baptism at the moment of your salvation.
Churches that claim it is an event separate from water baptism, and for most people, comes at a later date by your own invitation.

I believe it is a separate baptism from water baptism. Why would you not want to have the Holy Spirit baptism?
---Rebekah_Martin on 6/16/08

Did you ever think why god made rain, instead of the mist. Think about this.
The mist idea is just as good as rain. Would man have wonder about rain?
When you come to true faith its like youve already been baptize, ready for the Holy Spirit. I think it was a child that said something like this. I try never to look to a man for my answers. Ive always been this way. Holy Spirit is your teacher.
Remember with God all things for possible.
God keep you.

Water baptism isnt the only baptism for believers
1.The new birth or baptism into the body of Christ (1Corinthians 12:13, John 3:3-7)
2. Water baptism (Matthew 28:19, Act 2)
3. Baptism in the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:11, Mark 1:8, Luke 3:16, John 1:33, Acts 1:5, 8)
---Rickey on 6/16/08

Contrary to popular belief, you don't need the baptism in the Holy Spirit to be saved. The moment you make Jesus Lord of your life the Holy Spirit comes and dwells in you.(John 14:17) Salvation or baptism into the body of Christ comes before being baptized w/ the Holy Spirit.(1Corinthians 12:13, Romans 10:9)

Just ask a question, if someone confessed Jesus as Lord(got saved) then died 2seconds later, would they go to hell? Nope, because they are a child of God born into His family.(Romans 8:17)
---Rickey on 6/16/08

When you get born again the Holy Spirit comes & lives in you. It's like when you drink water you take it into you.

The baptism in the Holy Spirit is like taking a shower. The water from the shower is ON you. Baptism in the Holy Spirit is more like anointing a person.

New birth is for you. Baptism in the Holy Spirit is for you to be a witness. It's your equipment for your mission as a Christian.

Belief,Jesus Christ as Son of God,the Lamb that was slain for our sins, and repentence from sin,is all we need to be saved. Nevertheless we are commanded to be Baptised, and Jesus commanded the Apostles to wait for the Promise of the Father, the Baptism of the Holy Ghost, shown in Bible with evidence of tongues. God seeks obedience from His people. Holy Ghost is to empower for service. HG infilling fulfills,John14:17 (HG-Spirit of Truth)For he dwelleth with you and shall be in you.
---Darlene_1 on 6/16/08

Yes, you do need the Baptism of the Holy Spirit to be saved. The sinners prayer is a prayer of Repentence. The Baptism comes when you ASK for it-it is the indwelling of God's Holy Spirit within you. He indwells you and makes your spirit come alive unto God. If no Baptism of HS, then your spirit man remains dead. "It is the Spirit who gives life." the holy spirits job has not changed since jesus ascended.people are still miraculously healed, the dead can still be raised,to deny this is to deny Gods word.and the answer is yes,you don,t convict yourself into repentence and belief in jesus the word and the spirit convict you.

I antimately disagree, jesus said that signs and wonders would accompany all truly born again believers.to say that all supernatural acts ended with the death of the last of the original apostles is saying jesus was and is a liar, and acxtually is false teaching.
---tom2 on 6/14/08

part2 and actually they never had any ability it was the holy spirit.just as the holy spirit today still performs signs and wonders.I have personally seen and experienced miracles.
---tom2 on 6/14/08

to deny miracles is to deny that the holy spirit is in the world today.that the gifts of the spirit don,t exist.that people aren,t saved.God is the same yesterday today and forever.the holy spirit is still in the world and God has not changed and denied the power given when jesus ascended.this will only happen when the holy spirit is removed.
---tom2 on 6/14/08

To be saved you have to be born again, by the power of the Holy Spirit, who testifies the truth in us that Jesus Christ is Lord. Other manifestations such as babbling in an unrecognizable language, passing out on the floor, unexplained laughter etc, are not from God. The gift of the ability to do supernatural things passed away when the last apostle died.

The baptism of the Holy Ghost has nothing to do with salvation. You do recieve the Holy Ghost in a way when you accept Jesus as Saviour.Accepting Jesus saves you nothing else. The baptism of the Holy Ghost is the power gift and you speak in a language you have never learned when you recieve this gift.
---shirley on 6/14/08

Jody
It's only after we are saved that we can ask the Holy Ghost to come and dwell with-in us. The Holy Spirit is our baptism by fire & the testimony of Christ, keeping us in remembrance of our Heavenly Father's Word and covenant of promises by teaching & guiding us as we journey in this earth.

The Spirit helps us to transform our minds so we are no longer conformed to this world.
