One of two reasons. The first is the blatent hypocrasy in the actions of those who claim to honor god. Or, as in the case of those who belong to god, because the truth is foolisness to world, but discerned only by those who hold the truth.

The media has never been Christian friendly. This is because, for the most part, Christians don't control the media. Also, another big reason is because we Christians suffer from "Hoof and Mouth" disease. We open our mouth and stick in our foot by trying to claim something is of the Bible, when it isn't. Many Christian also suffer from the "Sunday Only" disease -which is only to pratice our Christian beliefs only on Sunday. Another problem is non-Christians don't like to be made to feel quilty, so it's easier just to mock Christianty. On I could go to answer your question, but have run out of space. One last statement, don't confuse mockery with persecution.

Jerry: Forgive me I neglected to note that I was discussing journalists.
---Martin_nz on 10/7/08|
Christians let us bring glory to God in all that we do. Live lifes that are faultless so that if they wish to criticise us let them feel shame in their stomach for they know their allegations are without basis.
Personally though I think often there is basis to their criticisms. Note though that it is easy to critique people that have a standard to be measured. Please be loving if you correct or rebuke and love your enemies regardless of how unjut or angry they are to you for the Glory of God.

Martin nz: Great summary of political liberals! I would like to point out, however, that the political liberals are not at all liberal in the positive, biblical sense. i.e., they are not generally very charitable with their own funds. They like to appear charitable by stealing other's money (taxes) and giving it to the needy (buying votes from the poor). Karl Marx advised the control of the media, schools and government in order to promulgate Christian-hating, atheistic Communism. I'd say, they've nearly made a clean sweep.

Just Scripture Being Fulfilled
15For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. 16To the one we are the smell of death, to the other, the fragrance of life. And who is equal to such a task?

1 - Why are Christians mocked in the Media:
One reason is that about 5 out of 6 are liberal. Even though only 2out of ten describe themselves as so.
1.Liberals represent a minority of the population.
2.Liberal Journalists have a majority of influence on the media.
3.Liberals tend to represent their ideologies favorably.
4.They tend to present Conservative views negatively.
5.As Liberals typically agree with their own arguments it is hard for them to critique them. Thus they are unaware to a large extent of their bias.
6.They may attempt to 'transcend their bias' but this is not represented in the coverage of Consevative ideologies.
---martin_nz on 9/29/08|
7.The agenda that one critiques for bias is their own agenda. By doing this you setup what is on the agenda as good. Thus Liberals see their ideologies to a greater extent to be right positions.
8.Thus Liberals are bias to their ideologies.
Liberal ideologies are not necessarily non-Christian(i.e. you can be a Christian and a Liberal)
There is often an overlap between Conservative American Christian ideologies. Liberal ideologies tend to conflict with conservative ones and tend to 'demonise' their adversary or represent them as the 'other/not of us...inferior...ignorant...and so on'
But hey conservatives and liberals and independents journalists are human.

Melanie has a great answer. Satan wants to remove anyone who is shining a light on his lies. That is why so many 'Christians' can attack me on the Prove God Exists thread. They are really worried that I have some credibility because I have put in the research. Knowledge is not a necessity for salvation, but it is great to beat the atheists down with, especially since they expect fundamentalists not to have even looked at the pseudo science that the NWO produces all the time.

Jesus told His followers that they hated Him, and they will hate you because of Me. As Christians (followers of Jesus) we WILL be persacuted by those who do not follow Jesus - the Bible states this fact several times. However, we know the TRUTH (Jesus) and the TRUTH WILL set us FREE.
---Leslie on 9/29/08|
The Bible says that the cross IS foolishness to them that are perishing and do not believe. Christians bring the message of the cross to them that are perishing. We are mocked not only because of who we follow, but also the message we preach.
---Leslie on 9/29/08|
Christians are mocked. God told us about it.
Hopefully it is because we are being light to world.
---Martin on 9/29/08|
Christianity is not a religion, first of all. It is a relationship with Christ. Christ takes the lead and we follow whever he leads us. It takes commitment, faith, holiness, perserverance, love and other qualities to be successful at it. But with the leading of Christ and the annoiting of the Holy Spirit we can make it.
Other religions does not require this. This is why Christianity is not considered a religion. People prefer religion because it places no restraints and no commitment on their lives. Religion is boring and dead.People like this.
---Robyn on 7/17/08|
Once again, don't know what you are talking about. We are not talking about whom God loves or don't love. We are talking favoritism. There is a difference. If you have a child who is obedient versus one who is always acting up, which one would you favour? Yet,you will love them equally. Jealousy, is an ugly thing.
---catherine on 7/16/08|
When someone stands up and says, "Hey, I'm favored by God," they invite mockery. God loves all God's children equally.
---Deb on 7/15/08|
I would say most Christian sects are NOT mocked (though some may have scandals.)
However, fundamentalist Christians are frequently mocked, for the following reasons:
-- Fundamentalists are perceived to be anti-science.
-- They are also perceived to be conspiracy-theorists, from believing the Da Vinci Code is real to disdaining public schooling and immunizations.
-- Fundamentalists often believe in literal demons. This is considered very weird and possibly crazy.
All of the above are considered mockable behaviors by the general public.
Additionally, some methods of proselytizing are considered to be mockable themselves. (Chick tracts are a prime example.)
---Nancy on 7/15/08|
Great question! One is there is a ton of hypocrisy in the church..but I also think that Satan will try to eliminate anything that is getting in his way.
---melanie on 7/14/08|
That's easy. Because God loves us. We are favoured, and the most blessed of all people on this EARTH! Also, not many knows there really is a God, or mabe there is a God. But Christians knows there is a God. So people gets a little nervous and takes it out on God's people. BUT, it is really God they are trampling upon. The wicked man does not know, nor understand too much, including that. Hope everyone has a good week-end.+

The bible states over and over again that we will be persecuted. People will hate us just because we love Christ. We know this but keep our faith through it all.
Why should the devil mess with the other religions and cause people to come up against them? They are already hell bound why would he put effort into messing up their lives when they are doing to work for him.

Christians are promised and guaranteed persecution according to 2 Timothy 3:12.
---old_guy on 7/11/08|
I have learned Christians are mocked for two reasons.
We often are mocked by those who are in the world because there are too many false teachers who proclaim to be the people of God.
We arer also mocked by false teachers and their followers when we take a stand for God's Truths.
---Rob on 7/11/08|
Christians are mocked and reviled because those who do are perishing.
1 Corinthians 1:18-19
18For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19For it is written:
"I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."

When someone feels the need to talk about me, that just lets me know that I must be doing something right with the Lord and on the right path for a person to stoop so low to gossip. It hurts that people talks about me, but what doesn't kill me, only makes me stronger. It wasn't long ago that I overheard two females that I thought were Christians talking about me and my husband. Saying that we got divorced and I was dancing on the tables in bars. When I approached them, oh they acted so happy to see me. I smiled and said if you chose to talk about someone, make sure their not close enough to hear you, and I walked away. I refuse to let an ignorant person ruin my day or my walk with the Lord.

I tell you why and this came to me just the otherday. JEALOUSLY. Satan, ever since he was kicked out of heaven has had it in for God's people. He hates us because he got KICKED out of HEAVEN.

2) I will state that I myself am not perfect and am guilty of this, but when I am made aware of it, I look to be self correcting by repenting & asking for forgiveness. Christians are mocked by each other & the world because, there is the disbelief & misunderstanding that we ourselves are going to be perfect or see one another as perfect because we believe in the truth & perfection of God's Word,. It is God that looks down knowing the righteousness of our hearts, which is always swaying as if in the wind but He still endeavors to edify us and we should do the some.
---Shawn.M.T on 7/3/08|
If unbelievers see a Christian who preaches soberiety, chastity, and charity, but practices drunkenness, adultery, and greed, they rightly conclude that he is a hypocrite.
Furthermore, if most Christians they see are like this, they will conclude:
1) God does not exist, and these Christians are fools, or
2) God is wicked like his followers, or
3) God is powerless to stop these people from sullying his name, or
4) God doesn't care that his name is being sullied.
These all point to a non-existent, or evil, or impotent, or indifferent God - one that nobody would want to worship.
Hence, the indictment: "It is because of YOU that my name is blasphemed among the gentiles!"

the truth is not of this world.the world aka the flesh is in opposition to God.they mocked jesus while he was on the cross, and as a believer, and follower of him all christians will be mocked by the world.

Scripture says we should expect to be persecuted, so why should we not be mocked? Why do Christians whine when we are?

Why Are Christians Mocked
1) Why does anyone mocked anything? Because people who mock & ridicule other things, hold in their hearts the hopes of destroying things and believe that it is easier to tear down than it is to edify & build up!
When we mock & ridicule anything, it is stating that there is a lack of edification in our hearts.....and we all know who job it is to kill, steal & destroy.....so let's leave all of that to him. We do not need to hold a disdain for evil in our hearts.....evil is like a snake eating its own tail.....it will take care of itself. All we need to hold in our hearts is the edifying love of the Lord.
---Shawn.M.T on 7/2/08|
Nothing, absolutely nothing can make God look ridiculous.
People are ridiculous, God is not.
There's a fine line between being an iconoclast for God and doing the devil's work. The risk is falling off the tightrope of criticism without a net.
Parents saying do as I say, not as I do..preachers.. same thing. It's scriptural to warn others of sin. If they've repented, their sin is under the Blood of Jesus as yours are. It's only the devil that keeps reminding them of all of their past sins, especially if they've made a complete departure from their past sins.
To keep doing investigative reporting about what you can dig up about their old man is being an assistant to the accuser of the brethern.

If a Christian is not mock in this world that Christian is a dead Christian. And Christianity has many dead Christians.
---Mima on 7/2/08|
There are two reasons why Christianity is mocked:
1) A good reason:
Jesus said he was a stumbling block. He pricks people's consiences, putting them on the defensive, and the same applies to his followers.
2) A bad reason:
While Christians claim moral superiority, many live lives just as bad (if not worse) than those they condem. While many people are offended by proselytizing, they are MUCH more offended by bald-faced hypocrisy: for example, conservative Christian politicians and preachers screaming "sanctity of marriage" while being divorced, or having affairs. This makes God look ridiculous.
"As it is written: "God's name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.""

John 15:18-19, "If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you."

Christianity is a big challenge to people's way of life.
It therefore has to be attacked, and mockery is a great method of attack.
The public at large accept the mockery because it enables them to avoid the Truth of Christianity.
Why more than any other religion? ... it is much more important to attack & ridicule the Truth than a lie. After all the lie cannot change your comfortable life, whereas the Truth can and will.

RYAN::Simply, put because the immediate desires of this world are more Tempting than what is to come.Did you not Notice MAN ALWAYS WANTS A SIGN.in short seeing is believing.Jesus Replies Mark8:12. Psalm74:9, Man does not want to do what GOD desires. He gives us HIS church, we profane it.He asks of us to be of one Flock we disperse it.It's got to be our way this is what caused Satans downfall who do we follow GOD or SATAN?Remenber Gen3:15 --The truth must be told.
---Emcee on 7/1/08|
John 3:19-20 (NKJV) says: "the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light." Notice that those who practice evil HATE the light, thus the mockery.
Another factor might be the exclusivity claims of Christianity (John 14:6, Acts 4:12). Those who mock Christianity, I think, are offended by the exclusivity assertion because of this implication: If Christianity is the ONLY truth, then everything else is WRONG. With relativism running rampant, this message is not welcome to some ears.
---Bobby_3 on 7/1/08|
Christian religion is mocked because most Christians are Christians in name only. We are to be in the world but not apart of it. When people cannot pick a christain from the crowd, then thier is a problem.
---wayne on 7/1/08|
Because Christianity is more hypocritical than other religions. So many people claim to be Christians, yet so few show Christ's love, as He commanded (Jn 15:12). We deny the commandments given in the very book we call Holy and infallible.
The world sees Christians drinking, partying, fighting, hating...living the same lives as those who are not Christians. What example are we setting?
The life of a Christian should have a joy and peace and love that others would desire to have for themselves and seek to find in Christ.
The church is not a mighty force converting the world, the world is the mighty force that's converting the church.
---Todd1 on 7/1/08|
If Christians are to be in this world but not of it, satan is going to come into the churches and make a mockery out of God. He'll use anything he can to get his tail lodged in the door. He looks for any opening that Christians might give him.
We know him by his confusion, condemnation and strife. He is the prince of the air and will use whatever he can, including media to discredit God. He hasn't given up and because he knows his future, if anyone has ever wondered why satan warred against God - he is still envious, jealous and full of rebellion. The accuser of the brethern has not changed. He's going to mock God and every Christian that follows after Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ is the same. God doesn't move, why do we?
---Marcia on 7/1/08|
No-one feels more challenged than they do when they hear the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. This is why Christians are ridiculed insulted etc. Others would love to see us retaliate in the way people of other religions do but we could not show that it is a religion of love not hate if we did that and they cannot comprehend the response they get. This does not mean that we should not speak out against our persecutors on occasions but it still has to be in a way that is pleasing to God.
---RitaH on 7/1/08|
Because people do not want to hear the truth. They'd rather live in their own little world believing what THEY want to believe. Jesus told them, "you love darkness rather than light." I paraphrased that, but it's in Matthew.
It's like I always tell people, "Tell the truth," but then again Jesus got crucified for telling the truth. People do not want to hear the truth about themselves even when it's spoken in such gentleness and love and compassion knowing the heart of the person it's coming from.
