An update: I heard from John recently and he is out of the hospital and feeling much better. It was just a change in BP meds that he needed! I know he can't get to a computer often, so I'll thank you all for the prayers for him. He is a much beloved brother.

Hi, God bless everyone here. :) I'm praising God tonight for many reasons, but one of them being that the people responsible for the break-in of the dog shelter (and the brutal deaths of 4 puppies among them!) have been caught--horray! And the remaining dogs have all either found their way back or were returned by others. I know they're just dogs so I may seem silly but they are precious--God made them too. :) Personally I think He did His best work in making my stepdad's dog, Gigi but I could be a tad biased lol :D

Trish I'll be praying for you and our schools. I've been in a scarey situation as a Substitute Teacher 16 years ago, schools in our area of Texas were getting calls there were bombs put in them. I had the first grade the day the school where I was working got such a call,we took all the children as far away from the school onto the playground as we could get and thank God there wasn't really a bomb there. I always wondered if we would have been far enough away if there was a bomb,I have doubted it. Hope you have a blessed year at school this year. I was getting ready to go back to College for a year to become an Art Teacher,I already had a Degree in Art and Psychology, both majors, but was injured and disabled in an accident, that ended that.

Well, it is back to school time, and I start another school year this week. Please be sure to pray for all the students and teachers returning to the classrooms around the world. It seems that every year there is some random act of violence in our schools.

SusieB Glory to God what a wonderful praise report. I am so happy for your friend and all those who love her. Two of my best friends are fighting cancer. One is my childhood friend, relative too,my husbands 2nd cousin, and her lung cancer is getting smaller with treatment. My other friend is one who I have been through thick and thin with in support and prayers and she for me,been friends for 30 years, she also has lung cancer and although she had surgery and lost a kidney to the same cancer, they haven't been able to treat the lungs yet, must know what kind of cancer first, still testing. The prayer of faith does save the sick!

Well cut off my legs and call me shorty!
Yeppers, some of us 'old timers' are still alive and kicking! :-) However I'm not blogging much anymore. I pray for all on CN daily even if I'm not blogging.
I'll hopefully find out on Tues. when my surgery will be when I see the Cardiologist.
Please remember to pray for dear ole John! He's having a rough time all around.
(Its the John that started this blog!)

NVBarbara, thank you and NVSteve for your prayers for Mom.I'm glad to know you are still reading this. I'm especially confident when the "Old Timers" read it because I know you all will pray. Hope you're feeling better, still praying for you and Steve. Trish it is such a blessing to both of us,I'm sure, that we still have our Moms. Mom has a gentleman friend too but his health is failing faster than hers and he doesn't come see her as much but they still talk on the phone every day. I'm glad to hear you're Mom can be so active. Mom was still teaching an art student when she broke her hip in 2006 but she just hasn't been able to do as much since.

Darlene we have been praying for your Mom, I'm happy to hear she's better!
Trish, you and yours are forever in our prayers as you already know, I love ya' sis.
Please everyone be in prayer for John from N.C. who is regular blogger here.
He's in the hospital having some problems with a stint that was put in his heart 7 years ago when he suffered a heart attack.
He has trouble sleeping because of his shortness of breath. Another stint may have to be put in, he'll know more in the next couple of days. Thanks!
---NVBarbara on 8/28/08|
Darlene: I totally understand about your mom's desire for her independence. My mother is 82 years young, and she lives alone, and can still drive the two hours it takes to visit us kids. She moved back to her hometown over 12 years ago, and still returns to where we live regularly for visits and holidays. She also does volunteer work at a Veterans hospital near where she lives. Her favorite past times are thrift store shopping on bargain days and hanging out at the McDonalds drinking coffee with her "gang" of friends. She has a boyfriend, and they have a garden they work on and can all sorts of goodies from. I hope I have half her energy when I am her age.
---Trish9863 on 8/28/08|
Trish thanks for your prayers and good thoughts. She wants so much to remain independent and stay in her home. I sure will be praying for your loved ones. We are in Construction Business too and I know how hard it is when a self-employed person misses work. Hope surgery went well for your son-in-law and your daughter gets all the work she needs and wants. I was a substitute teacher at one time and usually ,as you know, they are in big demand. God Bless you all with strength and plenty.

Darlene: Glad to hear your mom's arm is not broken. Will continue to pray for her.
My son-in-law is going in to OR this afternoon for a second surgery on his finger, which has a terrible infection that the doctors cannot identify. He needs prayer. Also, please pray for my daughter, his wife, as she is staying at the hospital to care for him, as well as their finances. He will be out of work for at least three weeks. He is a contractor who does home repair/remodeling. My daughter is a part-time teacher.
---Trish9863 on 8/27/08|
Thanks for prayers for Mom. Her arm wasn't broken but the doctor said an infection was starting. She is on antibiotics and already getting better. God Bless

Hi, may I ask prayer for some very bad people to be caught and justice done? Some people in a nearby county broke into a dog shelter, and killed at least 3 of them AND laid them down the center of a road 2 miles from the shelter!! And there are some dogs missing too still, it's just heart-breaking that someone could do this to innocent dogs--and the murdered ones were all pups under 6 months! I know they're only dogs but somebody's put those dogs through heck and needs to be caught, God allowing, thanks for letting me vent. And please pray, thanks

Hi All please remember my dear 90 year old Mom in your prayers. Yesterday Mom's cat ran out of the house when she opened the back door to feed outdoor cats,Mom picked him up and set him back down in the house,he was fine then, but when she let go of him he turned around jumped on her arm and put several puncture wounds in it. It hurt her all night and is hurting so bad this morning when she called me she was nearly in tears. There is also a big lump come up on arm and she can hardly use her hand, she is afraid he broke the arm. I am taking her to the doctor and praying so much it won't be broken. She lives alone and her hearts desire is to stay independent. Thanks God Bless

This IS the "What's Up" blog.
I've always seen it as a 'what's up in our lives' blog.
Complain about gas prices, ask for prayer, share praise reports, tell how our kids are doing etc. Not a TV or Newspaper blog, that should be presented on another blog.
Congratulations Alan of UK! Being a Grandparent is THE best! Do you know if its a boy or a girl? Just wait until the 1st time you hold that precious bundle! DON'T be too proud to shed a few tears as you look at that precious child! God bless you, I wish your dear wife could share in your joy.
---Becky on 8/26/08|
Alan what a wonderful event for you. So happy for you. When the baby gets here you wiil be so blessed. I'm sorry your wife didn't get to be here for it too. You'll just have to show you love them twice as much for her too. My husband always says if he knew how great it was to have Grandchildren he would have had them first. Now he feels the same way about our two greatgrandchildren.
---Darlene_1 on 8/25/08|
Alan: I am thrilled that you shall know the joy of being a grandparent. I remember the excitement I felt while my daughter was carrying my precious granddaughter. I now just go nuts whenever I get to see her. The joy and wonderment of her precious life is such a source of amazement at God's creation.
Bill: Happy Birthday. Family reunions can be great fun. I am glad that you were able to enjoy yours, in spite of many not know the Lord. I pray that your witness shone through.
I would appreciate prayer for my son-in-law. He is in surgery as I type this, for repair of his hand which he injured over the weekend.

People who try to sneak Bibles into China possibly know the risks. I have for some time used a low-cost, award hand-out Bible > guess what I recently read at the front > "Printed in China" (o:
We had family reunion, last weekend, with my aunt's and my birthdays tradtionally celebrated as part of the fun. But ones in the family do not know God and have deep problems.
It's good to be with the Family of Jesus.
We can feel isolated, each with one's own problems. But in the Family of God we are together and share in dealing with these things.

"Who wants to worry about people in China getting Bibles?"
I think we all should, but perhaps this blog is not the one where it should be discussed.
Meanwhile, I am going to be a grandfather!!!
Sadness though that my dear wife is not still here to share the joy
---alan_of_UK on 8/23/08|
KarenD: Talk about an acerbic reply. You are either missing my point, or ignoring it. If someone chooses to discuss the situation with the Bibles not being allowed to enter China, they are free to start a separate blog with that. That is the whole reason Christianet has blogs.
This particular blog was started originally so we could discuss our personal lives in a safe place, without acerbic replies, such as yours. Some people have more challenges in their lives than others, and request prayer as a result. Most of us here are loving and compassionate, and do not shoot our wounded, as you seem to.
If you wish to discuss Bibles in China, start a separate thread to do so.
---Trish9863 on 8/22/08|
Trish..I know what you mean. This blog has always been the one where we can all tell how miserable our lives have been and how many problems we have in our lives. Why can't people leave it alone so we can be miserable with our lives? Who wants to worry about people in China getting Bibles?
---KarenD on 8/22/08|
Trish I agree 100%,although I was one of ones giving out information on China Bibles, with my opinion. This should have stayed a people Blog only but once some subject is thrown out there it's easy to reaspond. The problem here lies not with sharing info or even opinions but the acid tongue and caustic manner with "you're bound for hell" attitude some have when they don't agree with you. It shows the lack of Christian Love some demonstrate. I'm happy you've gotten to be with your family this summer, when all's said and done family is the most important for our"HEART" health. Lucky you,Thrift Shops, love 'em. We'll all miss NVBarbara. I hope it wasn't health reasons she quit. Bible,Beloved let us love oneanother.

I am back from visiting my mother for a few days. We went thrift store shopping where I bought a lot of clothes, a high chair for the munchkin, and a microwave for my classroom for my lunches.
I am sad to see Barb leave. I understand why though.
I am also disappointed to see controversy on this particular blog. I thought this blog would be about personal happenings, not controversial current events. My feeling is, that should have its own blog, like that China controversy about Bibles. Just my opinion.

Satellites track Mexico kidnap victims with chips
1 hour, 40 minutes ago
QUERETARO, Mexico (Reuters) - Affluent Mexicans, terrified of soaring kidnapping rates, are spending thousands of dollars to implant tiny transmitters under their skin so satellites can help find them tied up in a safe house or stuffed in the trunk of a car.
Kidnapping jumped almost 40 percent between 2004 and 2007 in Mexico, according to official statistics. Mexico ranks with conflict zones like Iraq and Colombia as among the worst countries for abductions.

SusieB that's a ridiculas question. I'd be smart enough to obey the Laws and not get pregnant in the first place. I'm not talking about humans but things being brought into a Country by noncitizens illegally. If God had been in that attempt to bring in Bibles to China it would have been sucessful. Sometimes overzealous Christians cause own problems. Temperance in all things and nothing done without the leading and anointing of God. When God wants something done for the Kingdom He always makes a way for it to be done. Your question doesn't even deserve an answer. If you've been reading the Blogs for long you know where I stand, anyway,I didn't say render unto Ceasar what is Ceasars and God what is Gods nor to follow Laws of Land the Bible does.
---Darlene_1 on 8/19/08|
God Bless and goodbye! I have decided to stop blogging and concentrate on my studies and my business. Blogging has taught me how to better defend what I believe and has helped me solidify my faith and walk. Christians can be passionate, if not outright zealous, with their individual beliefs and I have valued the diverse opinions within these blogs. Again, God Bless to you all.
---TIMOTHY on 8/19/08|
Darlene_1.....If a country told you that you would have to murder your unborn (or born) child because they limit the number of births a family can have would you kill your baby? At what point would you stand up for your convictions and go against a government? Which is more important...the gospel of Jesus Christ and Jesus' words telling us to spread the gospel or China's laws? Abortions are legal in this country. Would you kill your unborn baby simply because it is not against the law?
---SusieB on 8/18/08|
China has a Law against bringing Bibles into the Country. So,all the illegal Bibles were taken away from the Lawbreakers who were trying to get them in. I don't know why that is any worse than someone trying to bring illegal things into USA and they are taken. I say it was very generous of China not to put those people in jail as they usually do. One of the Leaders of the underground Protestant Church was released earlier this year after serving 3 years at hard labor, for having thousands of forbidden Bibles, labor was making soccerballs for Beijing Olympics. As Christians we are taught by the Word of God to uphold and obey the Laws of the Land. No matter how well meant,it was lying, presenting selves as Lawabiding while breaking the Law.
---Darlene_1 on 8/18/08|
BEIJING - Chinese customs officials confiscated more than 300 Bibles on Sunday from four American Christians who arrived in a southwestern city with plans to distribute them, the group's leader said.
The Bibles were taken from the group's checked luggage after they landed at the airport in the city of Kunming, said Pat Klein, head of Vision Beyond Borders. The group, based in Sheridan, Wyoming, distributes Bibles and Christian teaching materials around the world to "strengthen the persecuted church," according to its Web site.

Susie B thank you for an update on the grandson. I thank God he is home from hospital now, pray all can be fixed when swelling goes down, and there will be no lasting effects. We are not even a large city, there's only 230,000 people in a 30 mile radius, around here including several other towns but we too have drive by shootings and other types, which aren't necessarily gang related, although gangs are known to be in this area. Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton, who once deducted $6 on their taxes for donating three pairs of his underwear, plan to take a $13-million hit to their personal bank account by forfeiting loans she made to her failed presidential campaign.
The campaign will allow to expire a mid-September deadline for paying them back, sources close to the campaign told Politico, at which point they will automatically be recategorized as contributions, confirming a decision by Clinton to forego repayment that many had expected her to make.

I have been working a lot at the hospital this summer. God has blessed me with two careers, which I love immensely, and I especially love working at the psychiatric hospital during the summer. My department colleagues are all Christians, and we just exhort each other, and share testimonies of God's goodness during our breaks. It is so uplifting. I do not get to see them during the winter, as they work during the week, and I only work on weekends during the school year. This will all be slowing down after this week, as I will go back to weekends unless one of the therapists has an emergency absence.
That is what is up with me this summer. Well, that and getting to see the Munchkin. :)
