Well, until you are saved, "raised from the dead", you are closed minded. Your mind is closed to the world around you. You cannot see the world the way it really is. The way God sees it.....I'm not going to be accused by God of manslaughter. Spiritual manslaughter on The Great Judgment Day....Please my Father in the name of Jesus, help me to always keep that in mind, as I travel with You. Hallelujah.

"I Should be a Christian, because God chose me. What makes me a Christian?, obeying The Word of God."
---Lawrence on 8/16/10
"Christ makes me Christian, obedience."
---Eloy on 3/14/09
Both of these sound like a works based salvation to me.
Of course that would contrast to Eph 2:8-9. 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
---Elder on 8/17/10

What do you think makes you a christian, and why do you think you should be a christian?

Faith in Jesus makes me a christian.

I am not sure what " should be a christian" mean. It sounds to me like an application to a club or smething, where you have to give your qualification to get in.

The book of I John probably is one of the most clear in being able to discern if you are truly a Christian. It is a short book, but packed with truth!

Romans 11:14 is not speaking of sinful flesh at all but the same flesh as Paul who was an Israelite. "For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry, if by any means I may provoke to jealousy those who are my flesh and save some of them." Paul is saying that he is speaking to the Gentiles of which he is not a Gentiles, and if some of his kind (flesh) are provoke to jealousy, some of them can be save "For if their being cast away is the reconciling of the word, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?

your right, if you dont know god what will you do when you meet him face to face. faith is hard, but so worth having,
---nettiel on 10/30/08

Robyn, keep printing the Truth. Every word you said was Truth. Humbleness is not easy for anyone. It is not until we admit how sinful we are that we are able to accept the righteousness of Christ by faith. "But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith, for whatever is not from faith is sin' Romans 14:23.
There is many people out there that are lost and they do great deeds for many. Yet they are still lost and condemned. Their good deeds are sinful because they do not counted as coming from faith in Christ. "For everything without faith in Christ is sin." They cannot give a cup of water to a believer in the name of Jesus Christ.
---MarkV. on 10/30/08

Once more I agree with you. Romans 11:1_5 witness to your say. Romans 11:14: "If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them." If the flesh is born in sin what needs it to emulate? Nothing absolutely, it would know all that it needs, which it would be to sin. The expression "put us to shame in their giving" I find expressed in the story of the Samaritan, Luke 10:29: "...And who is my neighbour?" A Samaritan! Even that jesus had said, John 4:22: "Ye worship ye know not what:..."! So then, a man that cares and helps his "brother" in love, has his reward regardless of what he knows or believes.
---Nana on 10/29/08

Robyn, do you think God looks down on people (His creation) and says 'That was a huge mistake'. As soon as they are born they are guilty of sin. There is nobody who seeks me. Not one person in the world is working for the betterment of the human race. (?) I disagree. I think many atheists would put us to shame in their giving to the needy, giving their lives in Africa as journalists or volunteers. Christians included. Most people, in fact, are dismayed at the evil that a few are doing. It is true the Prophets saw people as depraved, but this was to show what we are without God in our lives when we rebel. With God looking after us we are Princes and Princesses (Ezekiel 16). If we abide in God He loves us and takes pity on us.
---frances008 on 10/29/08

YES, THE FLESH WILL ALWAYS BE SINFULL. That is why we have to be born again. As a Christian your new birth is perfect before God, we are without sin in HIS sight. We are not and can not be sinners anymore, for we all know sin shall NOT enter. There is no salvation for sinners. So, do not say your saved and say your a sinner. That is false teaching.
---duane on 10/29/08

Because I was born in sin.And shaped in iniquity. There is nothing good in this old flesh. I am depraved and full of every evil imaginable. As are other humans.I am no different. When we understand that, then, and only then, can we see the benefit of what Christ did at Calvary, for all of humanity. We are depraved, selfish, covetous, greedy, evil beings. And the list goes on and on. This is what Salvation is all about. We are forgiven and delivered from a lot of sins in this world but we will never be sin-free. Our old flesh will always war with our Spirit. That's the problem.
---Robyn on 10/29/08

Steven, I don't know what Christians you hang around with but the one's I know always show their love for others. You must be talking about many on line who rebuke others or who don't agree with your points of view. Just because they don't agree with your view does not exempt them from loving you. They might be trying to help you but your not in agreement with what they say. I love you and you don't even know it yet I don't agree with much of what you say. I do when you use Scripture and give proof of what you say. But that doesn't mean they people don't love you. You have to read the passages in 1 Corinthians 13 and plant them in your heart and you will know what true love is.
---MarkV. on 10/29/08

steveng>>"all Christians receive all the gifts of the spirit..."

Steveng, I pity you. Please, stop interpreting the word of God. It is not for us to interpret his book, the bible interprets itself.

I was merely stating what is exactly written in the bible. Get a bible, and look at 1Corinthians Chapter 12 and see if what I say is my own interpretation. You however could not back up your conclusion with any scriptural basis.

"Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit"(1Cor.12:4) Is this not clear enough? "There are diversities of gifts" - it did not say anything close to what you said - "there is one outstanding at the time..."

Jean8697: They will know we are Christians by our Love."

manny: "... Not all in the church are given the gift of speaking in tongues. The Spirit distributes to each one individually as He wills."

All Christians receive ALL the Gifts of the Spirit for it is written that all things are possible. Although we have all the gifts, there is one that is outstanding at the time the Holy Spirit needs it to glorify God.

It's unfortunate that most Christians today have weak, or non-existant, faith. If Christians have strong faith, they would be performing miracles greater than Jesus. so, in a world full of Christians, where are the miracles?
---Steveng on 10/22/08

They will know we are Christians by our Love. To love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love our neighbor as ourself. Faith working itself out in Love. I should be a Christian because my Lord Jesus Christ choose me and I accepted. Glory Hallelujah Amen!

The Bible says that the apostles were first called Christians at Antioch. What does it mean to be a Christian? To be a Christian means to be Christ-like, to do what Christ would do and to be what He would be in any given situation. So, really, how many of us can really be considered Christians? A friend of mine put it this way: I am saved by the grace of God and am striving to be more like Him, but I am not there yet. So I don't consider myself to be Christ-like, but I am a disciple of Christ, always learning and growing in the grace and knowledge of who He is.

"Did Christ say that we must be baptized and talk in tongues?"

Mary, these are two different points:

To the first, yes Christ said that we must be baptized, "...arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins..." (Acts 22:16)

On the 2nd question "...that we must talk in tongues." No, we dont necessarily have to be able to talk in tongues to prove we are Christians. (Read 1Corinthians 12:7-11) Not all in the church are given the gift of speaking in tongues. The Spirit distributes to each one individually as He wills.
---manny on 10/21/08

As Bonnie said (on 9/19/08), "...they were called Christians first in antioch..." (Acts 11:26) Who are these that were called, Christians? They were the followers of Christ. So to be called a Christian we have to follow Christ. What commandments of Christ should we follow..? "teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you, and lo, I am with you always..." (Mat.28:20) We are to observe (or follow) ALL of our Lords commandments not just one, or two, or a few, but ALL. So in a strict biblical sense, a Christian is one who follows ALL of Gods commandments.

Living by the word of God and praying daily makes me a child of God.The spirit of LOVE and POWER in the WORD of GOD Indicates the PURE and TRUE LOVE of GOD for mankind.(Romans 5 vrs 5)(Jeremiah 29 vrs 11-13)(Rev.11 vrs 12) I want and love to be a christian because GOD IS LOVE.
---alber3484 on 9/24/08

Some people believe that belief in Christ makes one a Christian. I do not believe that. To be a Christian one must try to live the way Jesus did. He came to earth to save us from sin. He sacrificed His life to save us. Even though He was the Son of God He lived a lowly life with no place to lay His head. We should be willing to do whatever it takes to love and help others not just so we will be saved but because we have a genuine love for others and also because we love Jesus who is our example. I am so blessed by Jesus and what better way can I repay Him but by following in His footsteps and becoming worthy of the name Christian.

the church started in the book of acts. they were first called christians in antioch.these that were called christians were baptised in the name of jesus, and were filled with the holy ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues. to me that is the first step, then we must live a holy life.obey the commandments read the word and do unto others as you would have others do to you.

">>Question...where does everyone get this "accept Christ as your personal savior"? It's nowhere in the Bible, unless you can prove me wrong<<"
You quoted at least one verse yourself and said "accepting and believing(John 8:24)"

OK, that verse uses the word believe, but in its context it also means to accept. The Bible may not use the words personal savior, but common Christian doctrine says that is exactly what Christ is.

I never said in my post to ONLY accept. There are other issues like repentenace etc.

I would not say baptism is mandatory as indicated by the thief on the cross who BELIEVED but was not baptized and went to heaven.
---obewan on 9/19/08

Question...where does everyone get this "accept Christ as your personal savior"? It's nowhere in the Bible, unless you can prove me wrong, but I doubt it. There are several steps to becoming a Christian...involving hearing(Rom10:17), accepting and believing(John 8:24) the gospel, confessing your sins(Matt 10:32,33), repenting(2Peter 3:9) of those sins, being baptized(Mark 16:16)symbolizing the death, burial and resurrection of Christ for the remission of our sins. After that, continue living like Christ's example(Philippians 2) There's no skipping steps, or making up rules or "catch phrases". The Bible is very clear. Please email me with any questions, objections, etc. God Bless

I heard from several sources that when the "Followers Of The Way" were being forced to enter the coliseum, they would often chant and sing praises. The Roman Soldiers head this and mocked them, saying...
Oh look at the "Christ-Chens", or little Christs.
It is the Grace of God, by the shedding of His blood for my restitution that saves me, However, it is then, my natural desire to do whatever it takes to please Him.
Please Remember, It was because of intense persecution, as mentioned above, and indicated in the scriptures, that caused many of the surviving saints to believe that Jesus would soon return.

What you must do is recognize that you have lived in sin and made some bad choices. Come before God and ask his forgiveness, repent and be baptized in Jesus Name and asked to be filled with the Holy Ghost. Then find you a bible based church and begin to attend, purchase a good study bible, learn to pray and develop a personal relationship with Jesus. And turn from the past and look forward to Jesus. Because the day that you accept Jesus Christ as your savior you are a new creature in Christ. And now you start the process of renewing your mind according to his word. But know that you need to be in Church, as you need to have a Spiritual Shepherd to teach you.

I need to examine myself, as to whether I am a real Christian. But not to give too much attention to my sins and failures, but first attention to You, God, and see how You please to do with me. When I start a day, people and problems and my sins and failures from yesterday can come, right away, to demand my attention away from God. I'd say I need to wait until God gets me with Him in His peace, first, then see where He guides me and my attention, in His peace, how He has me seeing things. And now I'm dealing with loving each and every one personally, in me nurturing that each person can become my brother or sister and friend in Jesus.

I know I am a Christian because I love my God with all my mind, heart, body and soul, and that I love my neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Laws and the Prophets. And becasue I am still single at the age of 56 I could devote my life to Him.

The Two Greatest Commandments is a brief summary of the Ten Commandments. Commandments 1 through 4 deals with Loving God and commandments 5 through 10 deals with loving your neighbor.

The 613 laws are based upon the Ten Commandments much like the laws of the United States are based upon the Constitution of the United States. The Old Covenant were worldly laws, the New covenant are spiritual in nature.

First, going to church and reading your Bible does not make you a Christian. Christian means Christ like. Jesus said you will know them by their fruit. There should be a radical change in a persons life that has accepted Christ. You should be a Christian because Christ died for your sins and there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. Jesus is the way the truth and the life. There is no salvation apart from Him. God desires a oneness relationship with you.

God makes me a Christian, by having me trust in Jesus Himself as my Way for all God wants for *us* "with Him" (Mark 3:14). He has us more and more personally sharing with Him in His love (Romans 5:5). So, God is alive and personal in love with His children.

And God does me more good than I hope for, even practically, during each day. (Colossians 3:15)

And by making me more how He is in love, this has me ready to spend eternity with Him > "Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment, because as He is, so are we in this world." (1 John 4:17)
