Disobedience and obedience may be intermitten, sometimes you obey and at other times you disobey, these may succeed each other, an indefinite number of times, but coexist they cannot. Obedience and disobedience are opposite moral states of choice, you must drop the one, and pass into the other, present moral choice cannot coexist with an apposing moral choice. When you obey God you are sin free. I believe in total freedom of sin, when you obey Jesus Christ, you cannot love God and hate Him at the same time, love and hate are eternal opposites, you cannot serve two masters.ect

The key is to get filled with the word as much as possible. Put on the full armour of God that you may be able to withstand.
You need the word of God in you, the Love of God flowing through you and when the temptations comes, you can and will overcome them and not sin.
Write down everything the New Testament says about Sin, the deeds of the flesh, how to resist, etc., The wages of sin is death. By the Spirit of God we are putting to death the deeds of the flesh. SO when you are walking by the Spirit, by the Word of God, you are walking in the Spirit, and then you can resist the devil and he will flee.

Theres power in the name of Yahshua/Jesus, and in his name we have power over the principalities of Darkness and only with the armor of God can one overcome the evils of this world...
You can cry to God all day long,
But unless your willing to Claim his Son as Lord & Saviour & are washed in his Son's Blood, he won't listen, nor look upon you.
Some people think you can bypass the Lord to get to God, any man that's found W/O a wedding garment will be cast out...
I tell Satan to get BACK, I rebuke you, in the name of Yahshua, Try it, it's very impowering, Satan don't like it, But God Love's it!

Leslie, This is great! " When faced with sin and temptation, the Bible says to draw near to God, and resist the devil. Get closer to God (worship is a good way, reading the Bible is another one). Then resist ("just say NO") to the devil (using the Word of God, like Jesus did "It is written"), and he will flee from you."

Can you avoid sin or sinning? You don't need to sin, however avoiding sin's temptation is something we will deal with until we go to heaven. A clear veiw of sin is really necessary. Sin can be avoided by voluntary choice to obey God, because you love Him. Your love for God is voluntary and moral. The human will is not depraved in it's essense, ontologically or metaphysically. It is the voluntary moral direction of the will of man that is sinful, not some inherent, innate or sinful essence. Do have free agency after you are saved? If you don't then you can't obey God, if you can't obey, you can't disobey without free will or free agency.

That was an excellent answer Frances. Avoiding the entrapments of sin is a full time job, and you gave some great ideas for staying away from those traps, especially the fact that we need to read
God's word and meditate on it all the time. Also I would add that the Bible says we need to pray without ceasing, just talking with God inside our mind is very helpful too.

"What do you do when enticed by sin?
Through the grace of the Father I listen attentively to the promptings of His Spirit as He brings to mind His word.
"In other words how do you avoid sin when tempted?"
I make a choice to humble myself, allowing Him to empower me to obey His word, through a submission of my will to His. To quote a cliche, I "Let go and let God" do for me, that which I could not possibly do for myself.

Sin has a way of not just enticing you, but of entrapping you. Resist the devil and he will flee. The devil will attack gaps. That means if we are not actively working for God, then we are letting the devil see our gaps and attack them. Keeping full of the Word of God, and also reading other literature, and finding that which is good from the writings of good men and women through the ages, you go through gradual TRANSFORMATION. Keeping a notebook of your spirituality will show you how you have changed and matured as you have heaped up knowledge and skills and improved your attitude. This is the process of FORMATION.

Not too many today have this kind of understanding.

Its a wonderful thing to see.
Thank you, thank you, lord!

To Whosoever has an ear to hear?...Continued (2)
More importantly, I remember what matters most. That we are still here not because we are conqueror, for we are more than just conqueror. We are still here because we are part of the Loving Kingdom of God and are to act as such. We are to live life as if the world was the way it should be, in order to keep other in remebrance & show them what they can be.
I REMEMBER, James Chapter 1!!!!!!

To Whosoever has an ear to hear?
To conquer the tempting enticements of sin, "Just Remember"!! We are to remember not just the path that lies in front of us but the path that lies behind us.
I remember, that since before the foundation of the world our Heavenly Father has Loved us with an Omnipresent Love. Drawing us into the image we were created to be. A Love that gives all of itself, holding back nothing.
I remember, that the living can not live life nor will find life in the sins of the flesh. Life is found in God's Spirit....and we are victorious warriors in a spiritual war do to living life not in the flesh but in the Spirit. Not by sight but by faith.
Read Part 2.

#1 Rom. 6:11-13 - Likewise Reckon ye also yourselves. Our part is to believe and know the facts of Romans 6:1-10 are true. Nothing happens unless we first believe. Our victory over sin begins with what we believe. That must be established because it is that way for every person. We believe it and then it becomes practical in our life and experience. That is why Paul is so emphatic when he writes, Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin . If we want to get victory over sin, we must believe that we died to sin. But, that is only half of the reckoning, that is only half of the believing. The other side is to believe that we are alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Kathr, you got that right. What Ralph wrote is at least quite odd. Anyway, I didn't vote Democrat. I voted Peace & Freedom.

Living a Christian life is a constant 24/7 struggle. Sure, you may go to your denominational churches (having their own traditions, ways of living, and interpretations of the Bible) once a week for an hour or so, but do they provide your needs for the other seven and 1/23 of a day? We are to meet/fellowship on a daily basis to keep us on the road to the Kingdom and to keep the armor of God firmly in place upon our bodies. This is imperative in today's world where Satan is working overtime to destroy God's creation.
Look for the benefits of joining a "home church" to make the Christian walk more personal. Also do an online Bible search for "one another" and "each other" to help with your daily struggle.

Don't forget who (and whose) you are.
Know this that the old man is dead (believe something---spirit)
Reckon yourself dead unto sin and alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord (account or reckon---mind)
Yield your members as instruments of righteousness (present as a living sacrifice---body)
This is done from the inside out. Spirit first, then soul, then body. God's order.

John 6:53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
We know Jesus is the eternal word of the Father, and that the Holy Spirit convicts of sin.
If the life that is in you is not from God's word, it's death. The same that saved you is able to keep you should you abide in him, and that means fellowship with other believers through the word, and I strongly recommend an accountability partner, someone who you trust to share your struggles with, and that you can pray together with. Most importantly stay in the word when you have idle time, listen to favorite ministries on line, the preached word is powerful to strengthen your faith.

Everyone is in control of their actions. It is just like someone seeing that last glazed donut. That person knows that donut can put on some pounds but it has their name all over it. Do you get it or walk away....your choice. If you get it and eat it, yes it tastes good but afterwards you feel guilty and you know you shouldn't have ate it. But if you walk away and grab a salad then you didn't give into temptation and you don't have to worry about that extra pound or two. It all depends on how much will power you have. When it comes to my Mountain Dew, I am weak, oh so weak. At times I can walk away and get a bottle of water but at times I give in. I know that is not the same as tempted by Satan on things, but it is the same concept.
---Rebecca_D on 10/18/08|
James 4:7 is a good verse to remember when trying to explain how to avoid sin. However, it is more effective to give the whole verse, not just the last part. The verse says, "Submit yourselves therefore to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you." It is VERY important to be submitted to God before you try to resist the devil, otherwise you will find youself in the same predicament as the "Seven sons of Sceva."
---tommy3007 on 10/18/08|
Trust God to have you do what you need to do with Him. Be kind to anyone who is involved in tempting you. Don't be thinking I know how to handle the situation or am strong enough, but depend on God. Prevention is needed > before I get in a situation, I need to pray and get more with God, and be busy caring about others, not only seeking things I want, or this selfish seeking will make me weak enough so I will likely give in to temptation. There are things that we don't know are sin, and these can make us weak so we give in to what we DO know is sin > so, keep reading the Bible, learn about what we don't know. Arguing, for example, can break us down to do pretty bad stuff (Philippians 2:14-16).
---Bill_bila5659 on 10/17/08|
When I recognize sin, I walk away from it. We all know what sin is and know when we are being tempted. When we get to the point where we love JESUS more than the sin, we start thinking about things of the Lord instead of the things of the world. If you give it, it is because you want to sin more than you want to serve the Lord. I say this as a former "Sunday Christian" who turned my life over to the Lord 100% years ago.
---SusieB on 10/17/08|
If you walk in the Spirit, you will not carry out the desires of the Flesh.
Stay filled with the word of God so that when temptations comes, you can resist them.
I was just faced with a situation where I could have spent the weekend with an ex-boyfriend and had fun. I almost said yes, but I remembered the scripture, "If you love me, you'll obey me" and "abstain from every form of fleshly lust" and with that I said, no thank you, goodbye. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Fear means reverence. We choose NOT to sin because we know we hurt Father God and the Lord Jesus and we quench the Holy Spirit and it takes alot of remorseful repentence to come back to the Lord.
---donna8365 on 10/17/08|
You are not helpless. YOU are in control of your decision making.
The devil doesn't cause evil, he can only tempt.
People cause evil by wanting to have more than the other person and work out schemes. "Resist the devil and he will flee from you" (James 4:7).
Do not get discouraged if you sin against PROPRIETY (man's laws, dress codes, table manners, etiquette). If you sin against heaven (rightness) like the prodigal son (realistically, heaven cannot be a VICTIM), learn the error of your way, trust in the goodness of your heavenly father and return to Him in sincerity. If it wasn't a victimless crime, reconcile yourself to the victim that you caused harm and suffering to.
Don't blame your sin on satan.
