Blasphemy Against Holy Ghost

Blasphemy against the Holy Ghost means a person giving credit to Satan over something that God done. Is this the proper discernment of blasphemy against the Lord's Holy Spirit?

The Holy Ghost is ONLY in those that have been drawn unto his SON Yahshua/Jesus,
By which NO MAN shall enter the Kingdom of Heaven W/O excepting "Him" as Lord & Saviour...

"W/O the Son, No Man will come unto the Father".

The Father say's Those w/o a wedding garment are theives and will be cast out, the only way to get a wedding garment is through his son Jesus and their is NO other way unto GOD, But by "HIM"!

Sorry, But the Bride, 144,000 & those that are beheaded will not stand in Judgment, THEY have been deemed WORTHY to escape the things to come & Judgment...

Ready yourselves for your Groom, He is coming!

Be a gatherer not a scatterer, who knows maybe your name will get carved into a pillar of the New Jerusalem for all to see...

What a nice thought huh?
Your name written on a pillar for all too see.

And have you not heard(?), that WE will judge Angels, and HOW can we judge Angels if we cannot JUDGE the simplist matters.

Those are the Lords words!

Blasphemy against the Holy Ghost can be many things. Chiefly this: cursing the Holy Spirit, calling Him names that are ugly, calling Him a demon or Satan.

John 5:24 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

If you endure till the end you will be saved. Only those people who have endured till the end are your truely chosen people, let it be JEWS or Gentiles. Who are your truly chosen people? I shall tell you: The ones that has been bought and paid for by Jesus' Blood. On Judgment Day everyone will know that Jesus is God, but for the lost, it will be too LATE.
---catherine on 2/17/09

On Judgement day, every one will be a believer. We will stand before Jesus with our works and Jesus will judge us. No matter what religion you are he will judge on what you DID in life. This includes what you said. If the Holy Spirit was in you, and you did good things to your fellow man and refused the bribery of the devil, then you will be saved.

Jesus said ALL manner of sin can/will be forgiven, even words against "HIM", BUT against the HOLY GHOST, IT will NOT be forgiven.

Oh yeah, i forgot, Jesus is ALL 3 of them(Father,Son & Holy Ghost) to alot of you.
WHICH IS BLASPHEMY AT IT'S GREATEST!

Father, If possible take this cup from me, not "MY" will but "Yours" be done.

Where i go you cannot come, I go unto MY Fathers house and in my Fathers house there are many mansions, and I go to prepare a place(New Jerusalem) for you, so where i am you may be with me.

There IS 3 that bear witness in Heaven, even of this message to you ALL.

I'm sorry that i miss understood you.. just be clear in what you write.. I do have the holy ghost and i do know the truth, so i will correct if i read something that sounds funny. GOD BLESS SIS.

I agree with those who say blasphemy is the rejection of Jesus Christ as one's Savior. The Holy Spirit's job is to convict sinners of their sins and bring them to the knowledge of truth. If they reject Jesus, they are not believing in Him who He has sent. In essence, they are calling the Holy Sprit a liar. Turning down God's invitation to eternal salvation offered up by the Holy Spirit, bought and paid for by the blood of Jesus is truly blasphemy. I believe its only unpardonable as long as one rejects Jesus up to their time of death. Do you think deathbed confession with repentance of Godly sorrow from the heart for one's sins against God results in salvation? And the last first,
---Bob on 2/17/09

batieste,
You said Jesus is in you and all around you but you call me a sinner for stating the same thing by using the scripture in the Bible to prove it?
The Holy Spirit was only sent down one time. God said he would pour out his spirit on all flesh. This means His Spirit(Holy Spirit) is here all around us right now. When did this happen? At Pentecost. It only happend one time. God didn't take his Spirit back. it is still here with us calling people to Christ everyday.

Batieste, why did you get mad at me for proving what I said is true with scripture and assume I am not Christian?
I am here to edify God not myself. So why get mad when I contridicted what you said with the truth of God's word?
God bless you~

When you know you are listening to someone who has the Spirit of Truth (Holy Spirit) in them and you tell that person that they are of the devil or crazy, that is a blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit dwells in the hearts of believers. Therefore anyone attacking the believer is attacking the Holy Spirit and defiling the Temple of the Holy Spirit. We should be careful before labelling people crazy, or saying that they work for Satan. By be careful, I mean that we should know for sure we have the truth in us and that they are indeed of Satan, before we bring judgement on them. We should have righteous judgment and not go by appearances.

If several people come to gang up against one person who remains defenceless, then we can be certain that the many are wrong and the one is right. Others will not rush in to defend the defenseless because it is a psychological and spiritual war. The onlookers do not wish to take up arms against the highly organized ranks of Satan's army. People are basically cowards. That is why prophets were put in pits and not honoured. That is why Anne Boleyn and friends were beheaded. That is why Jesus was crucified. People run away from anything that might hurt them in any way. If they see what happens when you defy the world authorities, they learn to go along with the crowd and become mindless zombies who just say 'Leave me alone'.

miche3754 i have jesus 24/7 becuse I have the holy ghost,he's in my heart and all around me. I also have angels that watch over me. jesus sends his spirit down from heaven just like the good book says.
i received the holy ghost just like the apostles did, exactly decribe in the bible.
God is everywhere at all times, and jesus is god. jesus did acend to heaven, and for the rapture he will decend from heaven and call for his people.
although he's knocking on your door, He's already in my heart, and sending his spirit down to other people all over the world at the same time.
---batieste on 2/16/09

This is the only unpardonable sin and not to be taken lightly. If one is saved and causes that which is of God to be of Satan, it is deeper than questioning or supposing. It would be like a believer who turns to another religion after knowing Jesus. You would know if a person has committed this sin by their lack of interest in the things of God(of creation)/Jesus. They would probably not want to fellowship with believers after blaspheming the Spirit. Since the Bible says that there is an unpardonable sin, I do believe that even someone who thinks they are saved could be caught in it.
---jody on 2/16/09

batieste,
In Acts, that's the only time this happens in the entire NT.
Why do you think that is?
Holy Spirit was only sent once. HS(Spirit of Christ) dwells here all around us
Jesus says "Ask, knock, seek".
Matt 7:7-8, Luke 11:9-10
Rev 3:20
"Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me."
Jesus is right here waiting for us to open the door. He plainly says this and that he is waiting for us. Jesus is NOT sent down everytime someone gets saved. They just open the door and He comes into their heart. Tongues ( & other gifts) are evidence that the HS has come into your heart and lives in you.
---miche3754 on 2/16/09

mich3754 when i reply I always use scriptures,
(1 Peter 4:11) (New International Version)
11If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
Now with that said, I used (Luke 24:49) (New International Version)
49I am going to send you what my Father has promised, but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high."
The holy ghost is sent from jesus who is in heaven down to us. there are more VERSES that say this.-

miche3754 here is another verse (ACTS2:1-4)1When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them. GOD BLESS

I agree with BrianG, also in matt it explains the same thing when Christ confronts the Pharisees and they tell him that he casted out the demon through Beelzebub and the same scripture is quoted further on about blapheming against the Holy Ghost by Christ clearly these people did not know who they were dealing with.

"jesus sends his spirit down from on high"-batieste

Actually, the Holy Spirit is here with us at all times. We must have the Holy Spirit in us to be in Christ Church.
He knocks, you ask him to come in.
The Holy Spirit was only sent once and the Holy Spirit strives with us now.

So, the Holy Spirit is not sent down when someone asks. He is already here.

BRYANG its true once you recieve the holy spirit you cant loose it. but walking with god is still a day by day process. you can still fall short of heaven, angels have fallen. (LUKE10:18)Luke 10:18 (New International Version)

but peter gives us warnings in second peter3 the whole chapter is awsome and you should read but hear is the verse you need2 Peter 3:17 (New International Version)

17Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position.

Attributing God's work to Satan is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit! Read Mark 4:28-30 If you have received the Holy Spirit, I believe He will never leave you. Jesus says that when we receive the Holy Spirit, He will remain with us forever! You can greive the Holy Spirit once you've received Him, but with the promise Jesus has made to complete the good work which He's started, I find it pretty impossible to ever loose the Holy Spirit! We are sealed with the name of the Living God! The Holy Spirit is our GUARANTEE! 2 Cor 1:22, 2 Cor 5:5, Eph 1:14 Who can loosen the grip of the Lord? Who can reverse that which the Lord has set in motion? If you're saved, it's impossible for you to give Satan glory!

first of all you have to have the spirit for blasphemy against it. jesus sends his spirit down from on high, the proof of this is speaking in tongues.(act2:1-4)then you are baptised in his spirit and then laws are written in your heart. you have to believe the whole bible cover to cover and obey it, not pick and chose. (mark 16:15-20) says more. i have the holy spirit, also know as the withness, comfoter. and i recieved it just like in the bible like all the apsotles did (acts 2:1-4)jesus comanded them to get it. and we all need it to enter heaven (st.john 3:3-7)

John12:(46)-48, I have come as light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.
(V47) If anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him, I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.
(V48) "He Who Rejects ME, And Does Not Recieve MY Words, HAS THAT Which JUDGES HIM- The Word That I Have Spoken Will Judge Him in The Last Day.

Hebrews10:(15)-17, The Holy Spirit also witnesses to us, for after He had said before.
(V16) This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,
(V17) then He adds, "Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more."

This is the Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit:

To reject What Christ has done, When the Holy Spirit witnesses to you of who He is and what He has done for you.

No Man has an excuse. God has His testimony written in our hearts and minds.

The Blasphemy comes when you reject what you know is true, as Judas Iscariot did!

Amanda Joseph & MarkV.~ Those are all excellent answers. God can forgive any sin, but He can't forgive the sin of flat out refusing to follow Jesus. To refuse to follow Jesus is blaspheming the Holy Spirit.
---Anne on 12/5/08

Amanda and Shawn t. those were great answers. Amanda did it in a few words. Here is the reason why,
Those who know Jesus Christ claims are true and reject Him anyway "sin against the Holy Spirit" Why? Because it is the Holy Spirit who testifies of Christ and makes His truth known to us. Read (John 15:26) and you will know what Jesus said about the Spirit testifying about Him.
Of course no forgiveness was possible for these Pharisees who witnessed His miracles firsthand, knew the Truth of His claims, and still blasphemed the Holy Spirit. Why? because they had already rejected the fullest possible revelation, Christ Himself.

I agree with anchor4849 and frances4008, the unforgiving sin against the Holy Spirit is attributing things of God to the devil. Of course, and unsaved person can always have a spiritual awakening and repent. However, if a saved person hardens their heart, turns from God and says the things of God are from the devil than that becomes unforgiven as well.

Joe, that's exactly what the WOF false charismatic teachers teach. It has an evil stronghold over so many so afraid to ask questions about any supernatural experience.

Hardness of heart>>>Choosing to reject Christ. I cannot imagine anyone being that stupid.

Blasphemy of the HOly Spirit was to say that Jesus had an unclean spirit. Not that we do. We were born head over heels in sin of course we have unclean spirit. Jesus doesnt.
Now if one was to say that the application of chi was the working of the Holy Spirit that would be Occultic. Because it derives from false doctrine that is masquerading around as an angel of light. God forbids spiritualism and the occult. Jesus is the Way the Truth and the LIfe. He doesnt need any help. His Word is suffecient

Love in Christ Jesus,
Brother Rich
---Brother_Rich on 11/29/08

In interpreting this passage, the context must be borne in mind and so with most scriptures. This is the general opinion of most Bible scholars and I agree with it."The sin spoken of seems to have been that of malignantly ascribing to Satan what was known to be the work of the Spirit of God...but blasphemy, or impious speaking against the Holy Spirit was to have no forgiveness: i.e. when the person obstinately attributed those works to the devil, which he had the fullest evidence could be wrought only by the Spirit of God. That this, and nothing else, is the sin against the Holy Spirit, is evident from the connection in this place, and more particularly from Mr 3:28-30".See also Lk12:10,Mt12:31
---Achor4849 on 11/29/08

Blasphemy against the holy spirit is 'wilful, intentional sin' after one has become christian and holy spirit filled. One will know for certainty that he is committing that sin and refuses to stop it.
As a christian spirit filled the holy spirit will become grieved and quenched the more one continues in it.
This is the sin that God says we should not pray for once the person has continued in it for a long period knowingly.
Revelation 3:1-5
Church was sinning knowingly, Jesus told them to change lest he blot their names out of book of life.

The Father draws man to salvation through the prompting of His Spirit to acknowledge and confess Jesus as Lord of our salvation, and to receive, by faith, the grace of His atoning sacrifice for man, that is His Call. To blatantly and willfully refuse that call, after receiving knowledge of that truth, is to "have done despite unto the Spirit of grace." First of all No blasphemer receives grace, only condemnation. And not all blasphemy is unforgivable: When a person repents from their blasphemy then they may obtain pardon and grace, but as with every sin repentance is prerequsite to grace, and God's forgiveness is never granted to the unrightened blasphemer before repenting from their blasphemy. Blasphemy is having a spirit of desecration, which mockingly ascribes the works of the Holy Spirit to Satan. Blasphemy misjudges saint as sinner, calls good evil, the truth a lie, and the Holy unholy. And blasphemers receive damnation, and not grace. When a blasphemers gets right with God, their blasphemy stops and their tongue matches their unblasphemous heart and gives honor where honor is due.

Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit concerns those who God calls to get saved and they say NO,.
If you said yes, then you don't have to worry as long as you continue in Christ.

If that's true why in the world would I want to be a Christian??? It's a no win, there's no forgiveness in that. Every Christian who ever lived is hell bound and God is a cosmic psychopath. Am I crazy or do you people not see what you're saying?

Their blasphemy is not in their sins of speaking against Christ. Those sins were forgiven(Matt.12:32). This is their denial of the existance of God's Spirit in their lives.

Miche3754,

Your definition doesn't fit as well meaning and sensible as it seems.

What you describe is a denial of Jesus Christ, the blasphemy of the Holy Ghost was explained to people who already belonged to God (the Pharisees under the mosaic covenant) and they spoke out openly against Jesus Christ, not only him, (as your scenario describes) but more specifically the power or spirit by which he showed his unity with God.

You have to come through Christ to get his Spirit and know it and to KNOWINGLY blaspheme it you have to first be convinced it exists and it's real. Someone who doesn't even believe Christ will surely not accept the Spirit of God as real. To commit you have to first know better and accept a reality.

God says we cannot serve two masters. We either serve Him or we serve mammon. God says that he will punish the unbeliever.
Denying the Holy Spirit is unbelief, therefore punished by death i.e. blasphemy.

"I think we, as carnal man/woman"

Carnal?

Is that how we are supposed to be or are we a new creature in Christ with all things new? Do we not have the mind of Christ?
I don't mean to knit pick but this strikes a nerve with me, the Bible tells us we are raised with Christ and seated at the right hand of the father in Christ. Let's start there OK?
This teaching is not from the Spirit of God, and maybe you can say it's a minor mistake, but James warned against folks presuming to be teachers when they are not called as such. Even a minor heresy is a harmful one.

KarenD - Hi there. Doesn't it depend on whether they are doing it for the right motives or not. There is good in doing good to someone else just because you love them.
---frances008 on 11/18/08

Blasphemy against the Holy Ghost is ascribing it to the devil when God is working in someone. See the context in which Jesus says that this is an unforgiveable sin. However, if you have not received faith in Jesus Christ yet, then you are able to repent and be forgiven (IMHO). The Bible says that if we call on the name of Jesus we will be saved. This is (like everything) open to interpretation since some who will say 'Lord, Lord' will be told 'Get thee far from me.'

Oh Eloy PLEASE watch your words!
Please don't judge in such a way, you can't know people's hearts!

That was a low blow to Alan..and I'm not 'dissing' you or the Holy Spirit, but I think an apology is due. IMHO

The context of this passage should not be twisted to include things that it doesn't clearly show.

What's clearly shown is that when one does a work that is plainly From God (Jesus showed this by saying that Satan cannot perform good works because he would divide his kingdom leading to a failure of said kingdom) and it's spoken of as a work of Satan we speak evil against the power of God through the Holy Spirit. In short we have blasphemed the Holy Spirit.

That doesn't include grieving the Holy Spirit with sins of the flesh, it doesn't include wrongly saying that human evil is the work of God, it ONLY includes speaking evil against the Spirit of God when we plainly know better.
---Pharisee on 11/17/08

Shawn, God forgives because He is a loving person. Jesus forgives for the same reason. The holy Spirit cannot because it (personalized by the word HE)is not a person, but the power of Jesus and His Father. IT? yes the bible rightly calls H.S "it" Rom.8.26.(KJV) Blasphemy comes from calling H.S. "GOD" or 1/3 of a three- headed triune god. Nowhere in scripture does it say "God the Holy Spirit" "My father and I are one"(no 3rd person) He sits on the right hand of the father (no 3rd seat) etc..etc..
---1st_cliff on 11/17/08

Eloy....I disagree. There are lots of people who go around "doing good" who are nowhere close to God, let alone the Holy Spirit.
---KarenD on 11/17/08

--Eloy: **I am not able to receive your falsehood, but if you repent then I would be able to hear you**

Eloy why do you continue to believe that YOUR ABILITY TO HEAR the discernment of good & evil is governed by the REPENTANCE of OTHERS?

No Eloy ... I merely report what I have seen of your writings.

You have many times "bad-mouthed ... a good person" so yuo have been "bearing false-witness and bringing God's condemnation upon" yourself.
---a on 11/17/08

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is saying some things people do and how they act is because the Holy Spirit has come upon them, when it is evident their actions are the way those who have a evil or demonic spirit of Satan act.

This is happening more than people want to admit.
---Rob on 11/17/08

.alanOfUk, you are still in sin: you speak falsehood because there is no light in you. And since I am a born-again Christian I am not able to receive your falsehood, but if you repent then I would be able to hear you.
---Eloy on 11/17/08

I think we, as carnal man/woman, don't understand the depth of what it means to blaspheme the Holy Spirit. What I believe Blasphemy is can be different than what you believe it is, who is right?

I have asked the Holy Spirit, have I grieved you or quenched you in any way this week? And then I repent if I feel I have.

Blasphemy in the dictionary means: profane or contemptuous speech, writing, or action concerning God or anything held as divine. To speak evil of, to speak lies about, to curse or revile. So if we do it to the Holy Spirit, it's as if we did it to God since it is HIS HOLY SPIRIT, amen? get it?

Eloy ... according to your definition, and to the times you have accused others of blaspheming against you ... you yourself are guilty of blaspheming against others here.
---alan_of_UK on 11/17/08

Blasphemy also is simply dissing good. Have you ever done or said something good, and someone says that what you said or done was no good? That is an evil spirit which blasphemes whatever is good, the evil spirit does not embrace God's good upon themself and therefore the evil spirit projects their own evil or "mud-slings" against the white pearls, in order to make dirty the good pearls as they themselves are dirty. But whenever another bad-mouths a good work or good deed or good person, they are bearing false-witness and bringing God's condemnation upon themself. Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is equal to spitting in God your Maker's face, and this brings a person's damnation and not forgiveness, for God is Not mocked.
---Eloy on 11/16/08

When people said Jesus "had an unclean spirit" or said something like this, they were not just making a mistake because of their belief system. They had seen what Jesus was doing, and still persisted that He was working by means of Satan, though Jesus was doing obviously good things. And they had the motive of being against forgiveness and God's mercy for ones Jesus came to save. So, they were not just intellectually mistaken about some one or two works being of God, but they were against Jesus being the Messiah who came to bring ALL of us mercy and forgiveness.
---Bill_bila5659 on 11/16/08

Whenever a person tries to "ACHEIVE God-worthiness" (impossible) instead of admitting that we simply cannot BE "worthy" of God (and completely rely on what HE has so graciously done for us), we are spurning (blaspheming) the spirit (has been done all throughout history).

Mankind has always replaced the 3 gifts of God to all humanity...

1) creation (Father).

2) salvation (Son).

3) spirit (learning Godly behavior).

...with the teachings and efforts of the 6th day creation (man)...3 sixes...the spirit of 666.

Jesus is the whole fulness of God (Colossians 2:9).

In man's system of "spirituality", we worship the creation rather than the creator.

We have ignored what Jesus built IN HIS body in the three days on the cross (the temple/church, John 2:21, 1 Corin. 3:16) and replaced it with "buildings" (Jesus is not happy about this).

We have chosen H2O baptism instead of the "living" water that flowed from Jesus's side at the cross (John 7:38, Ephes. 4:5, Acts 1:5, "neither thirst", Rev. 7:16).

We have chosen the bible to be an authority and ignored Jesus as the only authority (Matthew 28:18).

We have chosen to ignore what Jesus abolished (Ephes. 2:15) and refuse His LIBERTY (James 1:25 and 2:12).

We blaspheme everything God did by doing our own "works" in order to imagine ourselves "worthy".
---more_excellent_way on 11/16/08

it is my understanding that blasphemy is to
deny the existance of the Holy Spirit in any
way shape or form.
---kevin on 11/16/08

It's at the very least contextual.
You've got to understand the effect this sin has, it creates doubt beyond the realm of a person's influence if they'd otherwise just keep silent. Silently God will deal with their doubt, but when outspoken they've created more sin, and Jesus said it would be better for a millstone to be hung about their neck and be cast into the sea then to cause another to stumble.

It also touches on the teachings of Christ in the realm of honest communication, let your no be no and your yes be yes, and "do not swear by anything." Nothing challenged/es the ministry of miracles except unbelief. Salvation is such a miracle, and this sin will destroy confidence in the Spirit, and it's indwelling presence.
