My answer would be, you must be born again of water and the Spirit (Jn 3:5) We must follow the instruction given by Jesus Christ to his apostles. Matthew 28:19 ...go make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name(singular) of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all i have commanded you... Jesus taught his disciples for 3 1/2 years, He gave Peter the keys(the message) to the kingdom in Mat 16:18-19. The message he preached at Penticost is the same message that should be preached today. Acts 2:38 REPENT..be BAPTIZED in JESUS name for the REMISSION of SINS and you shall receive the gift of the HOLY GHOST. Water and Spirit it is essential. Titus 3:5 tells us that how we are saved.

To Whosoever has an ear to hear?

If anyone ask "How to receive Christ", begin by sharing with them that we receive Him by 'FAITH'!!!!
---Shawn_M.T. on 4/11/09

Rob how does your statement,"Many people teach a person is saved by asking Jesus into their heart, but this is not found anywhere in scripture. " Stack up against Romans 10:13,"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved,"?
---mima on 4/10/09

Rob,

Those who Peter commanded to be baptized in Ac 10:1 - Ac 11:18 were Gentiles. This whole passage is one continuous statement by Peter. The fact the Book was broken into chapters and verse numbers much later, when published, was simply for referrence purposes. And those few verses in Acts which you cited are but a slice of the total story.

God is no respecter of persons, and this passage (Peter's revelation of the Gentiles being people of God) is proof of that. It is also proof that baptism was commanded of Gentiles as well as of Jews, as can be read...

Ac 10:48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

John 3:16.

A person is SAVED and RECEIVES CHRIST THROUGH FAITH IN CHRIST AND CHRIST ALONE, Galatians 2:20-21.

Many people teach a person is saved by asking Jesus into their heart, but this is not found anywhere in scripture. I suggest people read the booklet seven reasons NOT to ask Jesus into your heart, written by Dennis Rokser.

Water baptism was instructions given to the Jews. Under the New Covenant, Christians are washed by the SACRIFICIAL BLOOD OF CHRIST. Water baptism is no longer required, Acts 11:16-18, and 1 Corinthians 1:10-17.

I suggest people read Water Baptism, It's History, Importance, and Cessation, by Vernon A. Schultz.

Why do you people make things complicated.

How do you receive Christ? Just ask Him.

For Jesus said, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me."

Repenting, baptism, knowledge, growth in faith will follow.

Do an online bible search for "one another," "each other," and "encourag" for living a Christian life is a 24/7 lifestyle, not a once a week pep talk.

Praying you and yours peace of mind, joy of spirit, good health and many great friends to share them with in Jesus' name.

Lisa, I highly recommend you do an indepth study the Scripture starting from the middle of the Book of Acts, which is written to Christians.

Everything before that was written to the Jews.

We are saved by faith in the finished work of CHRIST, and CHRIST ALONE.

Christ died for our sins, that alone has a very big impact in my life- to think that someone loved us so much to die for us. But that alone hasn't helped me become closer to God and know him. I am still searching to know him and understand where I am at in my spiritual journey. Right now, I feel as if I am lost. But I do know in the back of my head that God is reaching out his hands ready to greet me at the door with open arms. When I am ready, I will find him.

The posture in which Christ was crucified, with His arms stretched out, invite all to Him, and embrace all that come. Jesus said, "If they did not receive the light, darkness would come upon them". [The light would soon be removed]....In spite of all the miracles, and there were plenty, some was never recorded, That people had the honour and the priviledge to witness, yet, they still did not believe on Jesus. This rejection of Christ had been prophesied by Isaiah. They rejected what they heard [our report] and what they saw [the arm of the Lord in powerful miracles].

i would tell them about our lord jesus, and that there are no other god before him.
tell him about the steps to salvation.
first you must believe and have faith, then you must repent and baptised in jesus name to wash your sins away, and be filled with the holy ghost.(acts 2:38)
thats just the begining. you have to change you earthly ways and begin to live a holy life. it will be a struggle because you have to fight your flesh and fight the temptations of the world and satan. it dosnt become easyier, it becomes harder. but reaching heaven is worth everything.

Jesus also said, 'And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw ALL people to myself' (John 12:32). One of my favorite verses.
---JohnnyB on 2/12/09

I believe Romans 10:9,10 are the verses used mostly by the church. Jesus said no man can come to Him unless the Father draws him or grants it unto them. The Holy Spirit first has to convict the person of their sins and prepare their heart to hear and receive the gospel of salvation. First I would ask them why and get them to talk and discern their sincerity. I would pray with them and then I would share the message of salvation, depending on the Holy Spirit to give me the right scriptures. I would then tell them there was rejoicing going on in heaven. Lastly, I would tell them I'll be there for them if they need me, and follow up.

"Walking down a church aisle at an alter call does not save any one's soul."
Gee, you sound as if you were God's secretary of the Salvation and Grace Department!

To what points John 3:27? We could all stay home watching TV and wait for God to pull up to the curb with a truck full of 'givings'? Natural and sensual? It did not get anymore of that than with the publicans and the harlots! Matthew 21:31_32: "... Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him."
---Nana on 2/12/09

Nana,Please allow me to clarify:"the natural man"the word (natural) in Greek is (psoo-khee-kos') it means, natural, sensual,we get the english word physical from it,the man of the senses (taste, touch, hearing,Ect.)or lets say the fleshly man can't receive the things of the Spirit of God.

So what I saying is "accepting Christ as your personal savior" is a false doctrine, it is not in the Bible, it is a real easy Gospel, many follow it. Walking down a church aisle at an alter call does not save any one's soul.

John 3:27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.

Salvation is given by GOD.
Hope this Helps,

**
Jesus said,we must be born again. The word "again " is the Greek word, (anothen, it's pronounced, an'-o-then) it mean "from above" **

I speak Greek and have been praying in it for decades.
---katavasia on 2/11/09

Joe, Good Answer! Katavasia, please do not chop off part of a scripture to make it say what you want it to say!

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
John 1:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

John 1:13 is the second half of the sentence and states that the ones that received him were not born of their own will, but by the will of God.

Eph 2:1 Tells us that God made us alive from the dead. A dead man can do nothing. Life must precede action. God gives life, we respond by crying "Abba Father" (Daddy) (Rom 8:15, Gal 4:6).

John 15:22: "If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin. 23: He that hateth me hateth my Father also. 24: If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father. 25: But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause."
Thus I disagree with the little Joe, "... there's only one problem, the Bible says we can't do that". The Bible says no such thing.
---Nana on 2/10/09

katavasia,
There is no formula, as bad as the "main stream"dislikes it, there just isn't one. They have made up one,"Get Saved by accepting Christ as your personal savior" there's only one problem, the Bible says we can't do that.

1Cor. 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know [them], because they are spiritually discerned.

Jesus said,we must be born again. The word "again " is the Greek word, (anothen, it's pronounced, an'-o-then) it mean "from above"

Hope this Helps,

John 1:12 "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name"**

I asked for the formula "receive Christ", and you have not given it.

Mima,
***John 1:12 "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name"**

Mima, that certainly is true, but what does the next verse say?

John 1:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

It's by God's will, HIS children are born into HIS kingdom.

I would say. God does the choosing. Do you feel an woooing inside of you"? And if they say, No I don't believe I do". Then I would have to tell them, it is not your time.
