"The only possible reason that could be is because man resists the call." LookImHiding
And you have the audacity to say you know what is salvation by grace? The reason "that man resists the call" is prove that they were never "chosen" by God. Never in the covenant of grace.
---christan on 4/24/12
you again babble in untruth here stating a Covenant of GRACE. The reason your doctrine is so screwed up is because there is no such thing as a Covenant of Grace.
The EVERLASTING Covenant has no doctrine of picking and choosing.
Your "covenant of grace" is based on Romans 9, which is about ISRAEL and their relationship to God, not YOURS!
Talk about AUDACITY!!

There's 2 covenants God made with Abraham, ONE, the Spiritual seed, and the other through Jacob is the PHYSICAL seed.

And as the sand below, the Earthly seed=Jacob.
Jews TODAY saved through Jesus Death and resurrection, as Paul tells us are the Remnant of ISRAEL, according to the election of GRACE. Paul himself identifies with this group, stating "Has God cast away "HIS PEOPLE", "God Forbid I AM ...." what does Paul say?

Yes MarkV I AM that remnant of Israel. You however are not. And YOU bend the knee to Baal worship RE: Calvinism. I DO NOT.

God has not cast away His people (the elect)---MarkV
You had to go and put that "(the elect)" (which is your OPINION) in there and totally twist the meaning of the passage. When are you gonna stop adding words to scripture?
Gods people is Israel. Thats the topic of the entire 3 chapters. Even today while they are in blindness, Gods promises to them are still in effect. That is why we dare not turn against Israel. '

kathr4453, once again, let me put this in a very clear and simple way to you. I DO NOT REJECT ANY OF THE HOLY SCRIPTURES FOUND FROM GENESIS TO REVELATION.

You can quote all the Scriptures you want to support your erroneous understanding. Nevertheless a lie is still a lie, no matter how much you sugar-coat it. It's poison to the soul, that's what your "preaching" brings forth.
---christan on 4/24/12|
LindaHelm, there's a great difference when Christ described Himself as "meek and lowly" as compared to "beggarly".
Matthew 1:21 clearly declared, "for He shall save his people from their sins." meaning, Christ's death SAVED His people and not just make the sinner savable.
Your god only makes the sinner savable. meaning your god has to wait at the sideline to see and hope that the sinner comes to Him, and that's beggarly. Most definitely not the God of the Bible.
When God told Israel He will deliver them from bondage, HE DELIVERED THEM! It never depended on whether they will have to obey Him or not. See the parallel?
---christan on 4/24/12|
Kathr, again you have no clue what you are talking about. "I say, has God cast away His people? Certainly not ...God has not cast away His people (the elect) whom He foreknew or do you not know what the scritpures say of Elijah.... But what does the Divine response say to him? "I have reserved for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal, Even so then, "at this present time " there is a remnant according to the Election of Grace, And if by Grace then it is no longer of works, otherwise Grace is no longer Grace..." (Romans 11:1-6).

You deny Hebrews 13:20-21. YOU deny redemption through HIS BLOOD. HIS Blood is what makes you PERFECT, where as the blood of bulls and goats (OT) did not.
You completely DENY the work of Christ on the CROSS.
Our conscience/heart was purged by HIS BLOOD from dead works.
We enter a NEW AND LIVING WAY through the veil, that is to say HIS FLESH.

The Holy Spirit is eternal, just like Christ who was promised or as Peter declares, "foreordained before the foundations of the world" to be the savior of His people whom His Father has given to Him.
Christ and the Holy Spirit was there from the beginning when God created the world. As Christ was concealed in the OT, so too was the Holy Spirit. Does that mean they were not in existence from the beginning? They're eternal!
As for election by God, your hatred for it is obvious - still, ain't going to change His will.

Jesus brought LIFE. We are saved by HIS LIFE, that is His Risen life.

In Adam DEATH passed on to all regardless. No one asked to be born dead, however that's the way it is. One man's sin passed on to ALL, whether you deserved it or not.

"It seems to be that you are using the word regeneration to mean " born of the spirit." but that is not the way is which the bible uses it. Why not just use " born of the spirit" nstead of regeneration?" francis
Sure, why not? Here - How anyone gets confused about one being "born of the Holy Spirit" is truly because of the lack of "faith" which only comes from God by His grace.
I'll add: God doesn't give this "faith - which is a gift from Him" to everyone but only to those He has chosen before the foundations of the world. And only the elect are chosen to be "born of the Holy Spirit".

michael_e, what a beggarly person you make Christ (who's the Son of God) out to be, "trying to get Israel to accept him"? What rubbish! Show us the verse from Scripture that says so. And I'll show what Christ declared,
"I receive not honour from men. But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you. I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only? John 5:41-44

In John's gospel, Jesus, before the Cross, preaching the kingdom gospel was trying to get Israel to accept him as their king.
When we hear Gods word and the Holy Spirit convicts us that we are lost, then we can believe the death, burial and resurrection.
The Holy Spirit comes in and we are circumcised with circumcision made without hands. (Col 2:11)
We are baptized by one Spirit into one body.(I Cor 12:13)
We are sealed by the Spirit until the day of redemption: (Eph 4:30)
We become a new creature in Christ. Old things are passed away and all things become new: (II Cor 5:17)
We become the temple of God the Holy Spirit indwells us. (I Cor. 3:17)
We are adopted into the family of God not born again. (Rom 8:15)

Michael e, the question Jesus put on Nicodemus was pretty clear, Nicodemus was a master teacher in the nation of Israel. He enjoyed a high standing among the rabbis of his day. Jesus reply emphasized the spiritual bankruptcy of the nation at that time, since even one of the nations greatest Jewish teachers did not recognized this teachings on spiritual cleansing and transformation based clearly in the O. T. (v.5).
You said, "Could Nicodemus have been "born again" if had understood and wanted to?"
A person is not born again when they want to. God chooses whom He will have mercy on, at His discretion. Hear what Jesus told Nicodemus on (John 3:8) that the spirit is like the wind, it blows where it wishes..
---Mark_V. on 4/22/12|
The speaking of tongues ("because everyone heard them speak in his own language" Acts 2:6) was only peculiar in the time of Acts and that was a sign that the promised of the Holy Spirit had descended as prophesied by Joel and Christ.
In 1 Corinthians 13:8, Paul said, "Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail, whether there are tongues, they will cease, whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away." Under that "they will cease, vanish away"

Jesus told Nicodemus, in John 3:10 that he should know all the things about being born again since he was a ruler of Israel.
Ezk 36:25 Then will sprinkle clean water upon you,26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
27 And I will put my Spirit with in you,28 And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers:
Ezk 37:11 Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the the whole house of Israel:
Ezk 37:14 And shall put my Spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land.

"But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." John 1:12,13
"That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again." John 3:6,7
How anyone get confused about "regeneration" is truly because of the lack of "faith" which only comes from God by His grace. Clearly the verses tells us that being "born of the Spirit" is only by the will of God and not man.
---christan on 4/21/12|
Could Nicodemus have been "born again" if had understood and wanted to?
Nicodemus had only the OT. He should have been able to find out how Israel would live on earth during the kingdom. Israel will live on this earth in a natural body and will be born again and go into the kingdom with Him. We, in the body of Christ, will receive a glorified body and live in heaven. Compare the scripture in Ezekiel 36 & 37 with John 3.
---michael_e on 4/21/12|
A person does not have to speak in tongues to be born of the Spirit. There are two kinds of Christians who speak on line, those who claim to be Christians, and those who are born of the Spirit and justified by faith. The wicked are not justified by faith, they are wicked. "God can "by no means clear the guilty" (Ex. 34:7) God is light (1 John 1:5) as well as love, and because He is such, sin cannot be ignored, its heinousness minimized, nor it guilt cancelled. The wicked will not be allowed into heaven as some here claim. Only those who are justified by faith in Jesus Christ our Lord, born of the Spirit will enter the Kindom of heaven. The wicked will be judge at the Great White Throne of Judgment to be sentence.

michael, I can tell you one thing. If you are a born again christian you know it and you don't have to ask anyone. I can take you to the place of my salvation. you know I don't like to use the word "christian" because it means Christ like.
---shira4368 on 4/17/12|
Shira, your correct. We can know if we are born of the Spirit.
1. We must see if we have any genuine love for the Biblical Christ. For we know such love for Him would be impossible without regeneration ( born of the Spirit). Why? "We love Him because He first loved us" Jesus said, If God were you Father you would love Me" (John 8:42).
2. We must examine our own hearts to see if we have true faith in Christ.
3. We must examine the fruit of our faith. We do not need perfect fruit to have assurance, but there must be some evidence. If no fruit is present, no faith is present.
4. our assurance is from the Word of God through which the Holy Spirit bears witness to our spirit that we are His children.

So back to the original question - Born Again Is WHAT ?? What exactly does it mean to be born again?
partakers of the divine nature
born from above
SINLESS SPIRIT, completely fitted for heaven. Our body will catch up to us at the resurrection, after it has also been regenerated.
---James_L on 4/14/12|
Dave, the answer is no. What you describe in the blog is the indwelling of the Spirit. While Born of the Spirit, born again, or regeneration, is an act of God when He brings a sinner who is dead in trespasses and sin, to spiritual life. It is not an act of man but of God.
"...but according to His mercy He saved us through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit" whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs "according to the hope of eternal life" (Titus 3:5, As Paul said in (Eph. 2:1) "And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins"

It is pretty simple. Acts 2:38 states it clearly. Un-saved people ask Peter "What shall we do" John 3:5 Except a man be born of "WATER AND SPIRIT" he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. (Water) baptism in JESUS name, and the infilling of the Holy Ghost (spirit baptism) with evidence of speaking in tongues. They continue preaching this throughout the New Testament. Is it not wonderful how simple the word of God is? But we as humans always want to change it or mess it up. Praise the Lord everyone!!! Have a wonderful day.
---corey on 6/11/09|
Born again is not the baptism of the Holy Spirit. If a person submits to the complete control of the Holy Ghost, this person will be born again. "John 3:8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit." The Holy Ghost (wind) moves the true believer to mortify the deeds of the body of sin. "Romans 8:13 but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live." The person, who mortifies the body of sin by the Holy Ghost, is born again.

If you don't nourish/feed on God's word and flee sin, etc. you are leaving the door wide open to the enemy Satan to deceive and devour you and tempt you back into sin & the old sin nature and get you back on hell's road. To be born again is to believe on and in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the Cross. To believe that your old man, your flesh was crucified over 2000 years ago with Christ on the Cross and that you are dead to sin and this world. To believe that you have been born of the Spirit, and that the Spirit of Christ dwells in you in the Life of the New Creation. It is to know that you have been conceived of a holy Father and therfore you are holy, no sin dwells in your new creation which makes you eternally secure in Christ. You have passed from an eathly, natural man to a spiritual, supernatural, heavenly being.

To be born again is to be renewed, regenerated and restored to lost awareness from above through the direct divine Inspiration of the Father.
(E.g. "Blessed art thou,.. for flesh and blood hath not revealed [it] unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven." Peter's way of thinking of Jesus was changed or enlighten beyond Jesus as "Rabbi" to "The Son of God.")
It is a transforming of ones character through the renewing of ones mind through the washing, regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit by the Word of God, which lives and abides forever. A new birth, -a new origin, source and bringing forth of a thought process or way of thinking- not of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

To be Born Again means to repent of your sins, confess Jesus is Lord of your life, and start walking with the Lord. Your spirit comes alive unto God when you are Born Again.
Acts 2:38 tells us how to get the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Repent, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you shall receive the Holy Spirit. Have someone lay hands on you and pray for you for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Tongues in just a sign, evidence that you have the Baptism, it is NOT necessary to speak in tongues when baptized.

"the kingdom of God is within you" (in Luke 17:21) > "the kingdom of God is . . . righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit." (in Romans 14:17) The Holy Spirit in us shares God's own "righteousness and peace and joy" with us. "Kingdom", HERE, means God's realm of all that God is experiencing in His love and enjoying *sharing* this with us > "Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us." (Romans 5:5) Being "born again" can mean we leave behind how we have been selfishly loving, and get corrected by Jesus into God's way of loving > "as He is, so are we in this world." (in 1 John 4:17)

If speaking in tongues is necessary to be saved, then there are several examples in the NT of them baptising unsaved people since they had not yet spoken in tongues.
Acts 11: 14-18, 19:1-6 for example.

NO! NO! God gives you His Holy Spirit. You'll see. And you just know that your life will never be the same. Not a bed of roses for sure.

dave, being born again is as described biblically. dying too the flesh and being reborn of the spirit. this is described in scripture by jesus in a conversation with nickodimus.
---tom2 on 3/4/09|
I agree that you are wrong also. Accepting Christ as your Lord and savior is correct. Speaking in tongues is a gift. If you ask God to give you that gift, he will give it to you. It is your gift.
---Carlos on 3/4/09|
wrong! being born again means "to change the way you think". it's an old middle eastern saying and jesus used it when he was speaking with nicodemous.

We are Born Again by the Power of the HOLY SPIRIT not some words being spoken.
The HOLY SPIRIT give us a New Spirit in our heart that wars against our old nature. We recieve the nature of JESUS CHRIST that loves GOD and wants to follow HIm.

According to Romans 10:9:That if you confess with your mouth, the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Speaking in tongues is not required to be saved. It is a gift of the Holy Spirit,if you desire to speak in tongues but everyone does not have to speak nor want to speak in tongues.
People think speaking in tongues make them more saved or better than other Christians. This is a lie! Straight from Hell.

Speaking in tongues has nothing to do with being born again. When Jesus was talking to Nicodemus the Holy Ghost had not yet come for all of us. Jesus was telling him about the salvation message of accepting Jesus as the Savior and being born again spiritually. Speaking in tongues is the initial evidence of being baptized in the Holy Ghost. If you remember your Bible, Jesus promised that the comforter (Holy Ghost) would come after he went to be with his Father. There were thousands of Christians who were born again while Christ walked the earth before the Holy Ghost came.

Born again is for when a person hasn't become a Christian or even heard of the Lord, s/he accepts him as his or her Savior. It's definately not as many claim it is more or less to describe the "born again" Christians.
Read the Gospel story about Nicodemus. No, I don't remember chapter and verse.

Being born again is about coming back to Jesus and beginning where you left off. It's the son returning to his father, and the huge celebration is about to happen, because he was once lost and now is found. Heaven literally celebrates when you come back to Him. However, it's not finished. You will definitely go through spiritual warfare, because now you left your path of destruction and Satan wants you back on it. You must continue building a relationship with God all the days of your life. He needs to your father who knows exactly what you need to do, and if needed, who to help. You need to understand that and trust in him always. We need to spread that advice to all are brothers and sisters on this earth, no matter what faith or religion.

IMHO, Born 'again' is a coined phrase,By those who wish to worship God in their denominational way. It is an excuse to explain JN3:3 Jesus said "Born from above"It is also mentioned by Jesus -The Father and I are one.The Father chose Peter in Matt16:13-19.There are several verses which emphasise this Trait .The choice is for each individual.God loves you but will not Force you to love HIM on His terms.Same way as you would not expect to force your wife to love you on Your terms!!

Jesus tell us how:
"'Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. "
"Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the spirit , he cannot enter into the kingdom of God."

Born again means that God breathed His breath or soul into yours and you become holy. Hebrews states that the old covenant of the Ten Commandments did not work so God said I will put them on their hearts and minds so that they will walk in my ways. They have several gifts of the spirit speaking in tongues is one of them. Miracles. Healings. Prophecy. Wisdom. Knowledge. Faith. Discerning Spirits. Each member has different gifts.

John 3:8 seems to say that a born-again person can move around undetected by the physical senses of others. He is spirit-begotten. We are still in the flesh, so we are not yet born again. The apostle Paul never used the term 'born again' in his evangelization efforts to the gentiles. All this is interesting to ponder. God bless!

babbling gibberish like evangelist brands of christianity is antichrist to tongues account described in Acts
gift of tongues is speaking your language and others HEAR in their own language OR speaking a REAL language never spoken before and people who do speak this language would understand and translate to those who do not understand that language
born again is a FUTURE term since clearly FLESH AND BLOOD DO NOT SEE GODS KINGDOM knowing Gods Kingdom is not here yet earth still belongs to god of this world 2Corin 4:4 ...born again is an inheritance a promise our faith we receive at Christs RETURN to earth establishing Gods Kingdom on Earth we are firsfruits of many to RULE with him as Eternal Spirit beings

In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."
"How can a man be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born!"
Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.
Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.
THis is what being born again means.
Speaking in tongues is evidence of the Holy Spirit in you but it is not needed. It is a gift.
---miche3754 on 3/4/09|
A person realizes they have been born again when when Romans 8:16 becomes true to them. Romans 8:16 says, "The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:" one sign of this happening is suddenly calm, Peace comes into your life. You're much more interested in the Word of God, the exacting word of God. And strangely once the Holy Spirit witnesses to your spirit that you are saved you can then identify others who are also witnessed too by the Holy Spirit.
---mima on 3/4/09|
Being Born Again is where you confess and repent (turn away from) all your sins, and make Jesus Christ the Lord (boss) over your life, by trusting in Him and accepting Him into your heart - giving your life to Him completly. After you are born again, you get baptized in water, then comes the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
---Leslie on 3/4/09|
No, you are wrong. Being born again means accepting Christ as personal savior and being renewed in the Spirit. The gift of tongues is not necessarily part of being born again.
