Do Our Clothes Matter
mima- The Holy Spirit knows you. Did He really tell you not to judge by appearance? Or did He say only give them a word? The Lord wants people to dress decently and look like people, not infidels. Give up hate for lovliness. Picture the world as loving God and showing forth their own praises not. Let them show forth the praises of God. Sanctification. Not skulls and bones, not brazen clothing, not rags when they could wear better. Go forth and shine like God would want you to.

Last Sunday in a restaurant I was considering the condition of someone's clothing and someone's appearance. When suddenly the Holy Spirit quickened my thoughts and I plainly understood that the Holy Spirit was telling me I do not judge people according to their appearance but rather I judge the condition of the heart. You call yourself a witness so get to witnessing! Whereupon I witnessed to the waitres. Immediately the Holy Spirit brought her under conviction she then accepted the Lord Jesus Christ and called for her daughter to hear my wife's witness and the daughter also accepted the Lord Jesus Christ . Clothes are for the human eye the heart can only be searched by the Lord Jesus Christ himself!!

Oh He cares alright! However, He is more concern with the condition of the heart. On the otherhand, we are judged by outward appearances. And we do represent the living God, so lets all try to look as nice as we can. If in doubt, ask God....What a privilege to know the living God.

The original post is: "Do you think God cares how men, women and children dress? Why would he care about our outward appearance?"
We are all aware of the verse in 1Tim. (which SusieB quoted on 3/13/09) which tells that christian women adorn themselves in modest apparel. Now, let's try to follow the logic that God doesn't care about how we dress.
If God doesn't care how we dress, then the commandment given in 1Tim is useless. Why give a commandment to women to dress modestly if God doesn't care about our clothes. Do we then say that God gives useless commandments?

I'd rather go to a little a little country church where people can be free and let the Holy Ghost take over, than I would a church that everyone is so prim and proper, with men in their 3-piece suites, and the women in their finest clothes and expensive jewelry. I love going to my little church, where we all know each other and we're not ashamed to praise and worship God with all of our heart. I believe a man should dress like a man and a woman should dress like a Lady. I see different people wearing really baggy pants, down past their behind with their underwear showing. People needs to respect their body by not wearing such clothing, but a lot just don't care how they dress.

What we wear is acceptable to God if it is not worn to glorify Self. EXpress, don't IMpress.

Dress at least as good to go to church as you would to meet the President. If all you have are rags, then wear your best rags, and make sure they are clean.

The Bible is not a fashion guidebook, but a good guide for a Christian is, "Be attractive but not an attraction." Fashion is more a thing of culture mores.

There was a time in God's creation when, "there was not a man to till the ground." (Gen 2:5).
Then God created Adam and his "help meet for him", and they were cool and they were naked.
Something happened and when God came around, instead of tilling they were using their hands to cover their nakey bods. To free their hands for the tilling, God made them some jazzy skins and extradited them "to till the ground from whence he was taken" on account that they became too grabby and there was certain tree they had to be kept from.
Yeah, God needs us dressed properly as there is always a lot of ground to till. (Thank God for the work, specially these days of cutbacks...)

Well the most spellbinding penetrating sermons I ever heard was delivered by a street preacher in Georgetown Barbados. This men's clothing was so pathetic so pitiful that I gave him $40 and when I did he say," sir the gospel is not for sale", but I insisted on him keeping in the money, I told him maybe for something to eat are anything he needed. I have a picture of this man in my scrapbook of travels.
While observing him I had the feeling that Almighty God would provide for him whatever his needs might be.
I want to publicly say thank you Lord Jesus for this unsung minister of the gospel.

God cares that we do what he said we should do and not allow the influences of society dictate that we present ourselves as if we live to please ourselves and not God.
It concerns him that we as women adorn ourselves with shame, modestly and without the show of wealth or dolled up hair, other than that men should also follow suit!!!! :)

I think God is mainly concerned about what you are expressing, by how you dress . . . not you trying to use clothes to control what they think of you > that *could* be tempting and training people to judge us by appearance (o: As for modesty > all it can take is for me to see an ankle or a wrist on a seductive spirited woman who may have all else covered. But a truly deeply honorable lady can wear anything and I can be obviously improved in the Holy Spirit, talking with her for a few minutes. "rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God." (1 Peter 3:4)

9...In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety, not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array,
10...But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

Because if a woman dresses seductively, how does that represent Christ in You, the Hope of Glory?
And WHY would a woman want to dress seductively if she is a new creation? Old things passed away, etc.,
Men - I love men with beards, but not long hair. So not sure how God feels about men and how they dress, but my ex-husband wore blue jeans to church every Sunday and it drove me nuts. Even on Easter he would not put a nice pair of pants on and I bought them for him.

God does not care about our clothes. What God cares about (as with all areas of life) is what the clothes represent.
For example, does it represent immodesty? While there is no exact description of clothing the concept of modest is addressed in I Tim 2:9 This speaks of women in particular but the principle is the same for anyone. Also, it must be noted that modesty is a very culturally dependent concept.

BettyW: 1st it has to pass the wife's inspection (color matches etc) or I have to go alone!
God created Adam and Eve naked (but that argument don't hold water in this house!

The only dress God cares to look at is the dress of Love that adorns our hearts.
