Difficulty Accepting Blessings
Why do so many believers have difficulty accepting all the things, promises, blessings, gifts, etc.. freely given to us by God when we accept Jesus as our Savior and are born again. Is it because we are taught "you don't get something for nothing?"

Eloy:-What you say is correct. But the delusional souls you speak of will remain delusional if they insist in following their own interpretations of what they believe to be the truth That is why Jesus SPELLED out "MY Church" in His unshakeable Doctrine calling it a Rock with Peter as and His successors as the legal Guardians, and the Holy spirit Its Councillor Mat!6:13-19.This does leave people with their free choice or their self denial."What you sow -that's what you reap.GOD does not make distinctions Man does.

what does christianity teach?
self denial - self is a sin
give than receive
when you think of yourself it is a sin / selfish
you end up feeling guilty, doubt, shame & blame because another christian / pastor said that receiving is a sin. you end up missing THAT blessing in the name of obedience & self denial.
that is why many believers have difficulty accepting promises & blessings.
then they will say 'ye lack faith' for missing the blessings, gifts.
this are the reasons why many christians are in bondage bec of stupid immature teachings of dysfunctional christians.

When we are turned about with the lusts and cares of this world we focus on it's blessings and not Gods. This salvation the world didn't give it to us so why allow the world to take it away (since we cant have both), Why some of us labour so..... it's just that Adamic nature that we are not taught readily to put away and live Spiritually seeking God but we focus on what the world says brings happiness, like marriage, finance's, cars, wealth and when it looks as if it's failing, health.
We need to put or whole and complete Trust in

all things, promises, blessings, gifts, etc. are not for believers, but are only for the obedient. When God Commands, Repent and obey me, but a soul does not, then of course that believer has difficulty accepting God's blessings simply for the fact that they do not get any blessings nor any thing at all from God: because God's Commandments are conditional upon the soul's obedience to him: but there are delusional souls living in sin daily and wrongly think that they are right with God and that they procure God's blessing in their life, but the truth is they are under the curse until they repent and live for Jesus rather than living for sin and for self.

I believe the resistance is because with acceptance there is responsiblity and a commitment. Even free gifts cause us to be responsible and will often change our lives. Think of what a free car could do for example. Less exercise, more duties, a tool to help others, less excuse to not visit that aunt in another town. I think we must be ready to deal with ourselves being Christians rather just saying we are. Eternal life is a free gift but how we run from it before allowing God to be our Lord and Savior. Just as soldiers have been executed for thinking a field pardon was a trick and rejecting it. (see A.Lincoln)

1 Cor 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things freely given to us by God. Galatians 3:3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the Flesh. I have met Christians that feel they have to perform good works to receive blessings from God. I've heard pastors teach old covenant law which was based on self righteous works to receive blessings from God. The spirit of the world teaches you get what you work for. By grace, God freely gives His children all things. Many Christians who don't fully understand the grace covenant feel as if they must earn the blessings they receive from God.

There are *people* who can be such special treasures who God blesses us with. We need to make sure we appreciate the Jesus people who God wants to share with us, and for what He wants them to be for . . . not just trying to use them for ourselves and what we are looking for.

"Is it because we are taught "you don't get something for nothing". Yes!!! This is the main reason people refuse the free gift of God. Their reasoning goes something like this, I wasn't born yesterday, and I understand that the Lord loves me, and I understand that I'm guilty before the Lord, but how in the world can it possibly be that he will grant me(totally free and without charge) salvation I just cannot believe it. Consequently if we cannot believe it we cannot receive it!!!

I believe it's pride. Have you ever tried to give something to someone for no reason,, and they say "Oh no, I can't take that". Well, That's Pride. They may say, Oh Here, let me pay you for that.

Salvation is a free gift. None of us deserves it. But in someways it is not free. It will cost you. Especially, if God has decided to use you in mighty ways. Satan will never roll out the red carpet for you. He will hate the ground that you walk on. And Satan will TRY TO use anything, including people, to try and get you to go back to where you came from. Satan, you can go ahead and jump into the LAKE OF FIRE, NOW.

Bob, I believe that the question you ask is very true to many on line. Some say they don't, but when you ask them about salvation, eternal life, their sins, they believe they have to earn it with their own works of righteousness.
We were made alive by God, and gaven a new heart with all those gifts, salvation, faith, repentance, eternal life, and the Holy Spirit to guide us, move us, illuminate every word of God, enabling us to love Christ, and yet they find some way to argue against the very things God has given them.

Believers have difficulty because of their weak faith. Christians don't realize that living a christian life is a 24/7 lifestyle not once a week pep talks that the denominational "churches" dish out (do an online KJV bible search for "one another," "each other," and "encourag")
Christians in today's world have a knowledge of God, but deny his power. Also, many christians only stop at water baptism. Many are baptised in the name of Jesus and stop there, but rarely get baptised by the Holy Spirit. They recognize the water baptism of John, but not the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
If chrsitians were truly filled with the Holy Spirit, then the world would see miracles performed greater than Jesus.

On earth (in humanity), many people give gifts to each other in an "IMPERIALISTIC" manner (something is expected in return, "gratitude"/butt kissing, etc.), but God gives gifts that are FREE and GRACIOUSLY given (NOTHING is expected in return).
Salvation is a FREE and GRACIOUS gift.
Many people cannot understand that because they do not give gifts that are FREE and GRACIOUSLY given. Therefore, since they themselves are not "gracious" in their gift giving/favors, they also end up picking on themselves for being "unworthy" and that "you don't get something for nothing" (but you understand that God's gifts are FREE...unusual).

this might be the difference between servant of God and child of God.

The problem is that scripture does not say that all our lives will be full of wonderful things after we are born again. Although we have the power through the Holy Spirit to overcome all things, we will still go through trials and tribulations. The preaching that everything will be rosy and fine is not right. At our house we freely accept the gifts, blessings, promises and everything that comes with being born again. But, we are also busy making sure that those who are lost find Jesus Christ and that their lives can be more free. We didn't get born again to see what we can get from the Lord. We got born again because of what Jesus did on the cross.

I have been serving the Lord and have been under persecution and attacks by spiritual wickedness in the heavenly realm. The wicked in power does their own will instead of God's and it has been that way for along time. They want to change people places and things, but they themselves cannot change so they cheat and twist honor and make who they want to win, win. They don't sleep unless they make someone fall.

I do not have any problem accepting his blessings. I call my friends and get all excited and tell them what He has done in my life that day.
---Trish9863 on 4/1/09|
Bob, I haven't experienced that problem yet.
Maybe it's just you who has this difficulty?
I have the gift of giving, so maybe it's easier for me to give than receive, but when God blesses me, I say thank you Lord, I really appreciate that. Then I will worship Father for the blessing.
