suzieh- The body is in the grave or wherever. The spirit is not. The spirit goes to Paradise (what did Jesus say to the thief on the cross?) and the spirits of the wicked go to hell.

Frances- Christians are the redeemed of the Lord. Jesus Christ is their master. John 3:16 Jesus Christ said, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that WHOSOEVER believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:18 Jesus said, "He that believeth in Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he has not believed in the Name of the only begotten Son of God." It is important to be a Christian, for there is no other Name given under Heaven whereby we must be saved. The Name Jesus Christ. Christians serve Jesus Christ.

In Response to Frances

Acts 4:12 ...none other name...

Acts 15:17
That the residue of men might seek after the Lord,
and all the Gentiles,
upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord...

Christ revealed himself to many who rejected Him

Jn 1:10-13
He was in the world, and the world was made by him,
and the world knew him not.

He came unto his own,
and his own received him not.

But as many as received him,
to them gave he power to become the sons of God,
even to them that believe on his name...

Mat 22:14
For many are called, but few are chosen.

We must chose Him by serving Him.

Betty,

Daniel 12:1-4 (Old Testament:)

And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake,

some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament, and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book,
even to the time of the end...

Matthew 5 has a list of people who are blessed. I believe they are blessed because they will be saved. Nowhere does it say you have to be a Christian. The Old and New Testament shows us that we have to be those whose names are written in the book of Life. God choses you. You cannot chose God. When He reveals Himself, you will believe it and you will be changed forever.

Real Christians go to Paradise when they die. The others go to hell. Demons masquerade as dead people.

1st Cliff, Hell and the Lake of Fire are two different places. Hell is temporary and the Lake of Fire will be Eternal. I've used this analogy before, and I'll use it again, here, because it fits perfectly. Hell is like a temporary jail cell a convict is kept in on Death Row while he's waiting to be executed. It's a temporary holding cell until his execution day arrives. The day of his final execution (the Electric Chair, lethal Injection, etc.) is like the Lake of Fire. Only, the suffering of the Electric Chair lasts only until death, whereas, the suffering in the Lake of Fire is Forever. GOD set up the system of Capitol Punishment, and should come as no complete surprise that He patterned it after how He has set up Hell and the Lake of Fire.

The Judgment and the Resurrection have not occurred yet
so everyone who dies is resting in the grave.

The Bible describes the first death as sleep, or falling on sleep.
Mat 9:24, Jn 11:11, Act 13:36, Deu 31:16, 2Sa 7:12, 1Ki 1:21, Job 7:21,

Job 14:12
So man lieth down, and riseth not:
till the heavens be no more,
they shall not awake,
nor be raised out of their sleep.

Psa 13:3
lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death,

Ps 146:4
His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth,
in that very day his thoughts perish.

Ecc 9:5
For the living know that they shall die:
but the dead know not any thing

Gordon, Do you even read what you write??
God takes people out of hell ,where they are already being tortured, tries them in somekind of court proceedings,(judgement) but they have already been judged at death, then, throws them back in the fire???
This explanation is an exercise in foolishness, due to lack of understanding!

to Eric: most asurredly there is life after death because Christ rose (from the grave) on the 3rd day. He is now preparing a room in heaven for each person washed clean (from their sins) in the blood of Christ. For those souls (persons) who have not asked Christ to be their Savior, will be judged to enter the lake of fire(hell). 'ghosts' are evil spirits(demons), mimicking one (who has died in their sins) to try and lure people into more sin and not to look to Christ for their needs and lives here on earth and eternally.demons do all they can muster to keep people from Christ. It is a spiritual war daily til our physical death and Judgement.

Correction to my previous post to this blog, The line that reads "[until the day of their judgment]" should have read ['after' the day of their judgment], for Isa 26:14 references the ultimate fate of the wicked. Therefore should not have posted as a reference concerning this particular question, as it is not applicable here.

Cluny, be assured that Gordon, by his own admission, gets direct, infallible revelations from God. He has assured us we can count on everything he says to be true.

\\ Johng, Whatever Decision people make concerning Salvation, be it FOR or AGAINST it, is sealed at their Death. Non-Christians go directly to Hell when they die.\\

Can you give book, chapter, and verse for these two propositions, Gordon?
---Cluny on 6/20/09

Johng, Whatever Decision people make concerning Salvation, be it FOR or AGAINST it, is sealed at their Death. Non-Christians go directly to Hell when they die. They remain there until GOD raises them up to stand before Him at His Great White Throne of Judgment, to, afterwards, be cast into the eternally burning Lake of Fire. Demons have the ability to "disguise" themselves as human beings. They perform these "tricks" especially at seances. When a grieving person who lost a loved one goes to a Witch, etc. to call back their loved one from the Dead, it is a demonic spirit that pretends to be the deceased loved one, and fools the seance participants into believing it's the actual dead person "coming back to life".

"...do non-Christians become ghosts and evil spirits that haunt the living?" No.
"The living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward, for the memory of them is forgotten.
Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished, neither have they any more a portion for ever in any [thing] that is done under the sun."
For, "it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
[They are] dead, they shall not live, [they are] deceased, they shall not rise: [until the day of their judgment], therefore hast thou [Father] visited and destroyed them, and made all their memory to perish."
Ecc 9:5>Ecc 9:6>Hbr 9:27>Isa 26:14

Nobody actually knows what demons are exactely.
so the answers given could be wrong.
what i know is that even traditional religions differentiate between
good spirits.
bad spirits.
spirits of the dead.
We Christians believe that ghosts are "evil demons" yet again ther is no proof for that hypothesis.
now i know some will want to sling 1 corinthians 10 to my head, yet if honnest they might acknowledge thet that passage is talking about idols and not ghosts.
again nobody knows exactely what ghosts are. also.

If Christians go to heaven when they die...
non-Christians go Hell. "Evil Spirits" belong to the Devil. They were never human and never will be. The Bible speaks about each of these, but says little or nothing about ghosts. If ghosts exist they are surely not to be important in our lives.
---Donna66 on 6/19/09

In a word, no.

That's like asking if Christians become angels when they die. That doesn't happen, either.
---Cluny on 6/19/09

ONLY demons are ghosts and evil spirits. Non-Christians go to Hell to be burned and tortured FOREVER - they can NOT come back to haunt someone (this is a myth). The Bible says that if you are Christ's you go to Heaven, if you are NOT Christ's you go to Hell - those are the ONLY opitions.
---Leslie on 6/19/09

If there is no life after death, there are no ghosts out haunting.
