No Tongues Not Saved

I've been a Christian for over 15 years. I read the Bible and pray every day, but I don't speak in tongues. Does this mean I'm not saved?

Batieste, it has been proven many times and by many others the things you write are not true, even though you say they are.

Batieste, is it that you are really that much deceived and blind to the truth, or is it that you are an advocate and servant of Satan?
---Rob on 7/11/09

Batieste, the Bible "did not tell people to speak in tongues" as you wrote.(1) Acts 2:2-4 The disciples were not told to speak in tongues, the Holy Spirit manifested in them.(2) Acts 10 & 11 the Minister/Pastor Peter & accompanying Jews were astonished that the people spoke in tongues because the Holy Spirit did it.(3) It's un-biblical for one to tell another/group to start speaking in tongues or decides in himself that at 9am, i shall speak in tongues(4) Do not assume that those on-the-other-side of this conversation to you do not speak in tongues or are against speaking in tongues.(5)The Bible says, ..signs shall follow & not forbid it, it does not say initiate/train/command others to speak in tongues.
---Adetunji on 7/10/09

Rob, what about Isaiah 28:11 with stamering lips and other tongues he will speak to his people,
His people will speak in tongues Rob.
Rob, ST. john16:7 But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you, but if I go, I will send him to you.
you are leading people to destruction, you dont know important info,
its like you guys are angry because I exposed the truth to you, and you didn't like that because you wanted to keep living clueless.
you guys can call me all the names you want, the same was done to jesus. you guys never offer any scriptures that are in context.
---batieste on 7/10/09

Rob, The scriptures tell people to speak in tongues I don't. The scriptures speak for themselves. You arent arguing with me, its Gods word that you are trying to trick. You wasting a lot of time arguing with the Word. Just humble yourself and obey God.
I have recieved the genuine holy spirit THE SAME WAY ALL the Apostles did. I have already sumit, bowed down and handed my life and all my burdens to the lord.
THERE is NOWAY AROUND it, IF YOU BELIEVE THESE SIGNS WILL Follow. ect.MARK16:17 or maybe you believe in that verse how about this St. John 3:5 you must be born of the water and of the spirit?
---batieste on 7/10/09

Batieste, you tell people they need to take scripture in the context which it is written. I guess you don't believe that applies to you.

You even wrote that you guess Darlene does not like what is written in Mark 16:17. I guess you don't like what is written in Mark 16:18, because you always change it to say what it does not say.

Batieste, If picking up snakes with your hands is testing God, was Moses testing God when he did what he did in Exodus 4:1-5, or was it a sign that Moses was instructed to show?

Batieste, if speaking in tongues is a sign of the Holy Spirit, how come Jesus did not speak in tongues when the Spirit came upon Him? Matthew 3:16-17.
---Rob on 7/9/09

It is clear and written many times over in the bible, Many chose to ignor. jesus said you must be born of the water and spirit to see heaven. Jesus can't lie at all. Once you recieve the spirit you speak in tongues. that is the proof that you have recieved it.
And paul wrote 1 Corithians for the water baptised holy ghost filled saints just like himself.
The Apostles were saved, they were water baptised , and spoke in tongues when they recieved the holy ghost. They are the examlpe to follow. There is only oneway to heaven. people seem to be making up there on way and they have many following down the wrong path.
---batieste on 7/9/09

Betty, the Lord told me to remind you of the story of Zacchaeus in Luke 19:1-10. In there is a model of a person saved (start-point). Continuous salvation is prayerfully following the Lord Jesus without intentional sinning Matthew 7: 20-23. Speaking in tongues & other 4 signs are special manifestation of Jesus Christ & His Spirit in the life of a believer. The signs should not be used to hail, praise or judge anybody. Some are speaking false tongues today because of "human over-emphasis/use" of tongues which Apostle Paul corrected in his time (re-read Rob, Steveng & other comments). The Lord commanded us to love (the signs are mainly HIS own to do in believers).
---Adetunji on 7/9/09

Very pastoral Steveng and thank you.

e.g. like a mortgage where the laws are the same but the terms have changed. Very well said.
---larry on 7/9/09

Mark 16:17 Says These signs will accompany those who believe, In my name they Will cast out demons speak in new tongues. If you want to play with snakes and test God it on you.If you drink poison on purpose you are testing God. It doesn't matter if there in the same sentence or not.

---batieste on 7/9/09

Batieste, it is good to see you will use the word "GRACE" even though there is much more to "GRACE" that people don't understand.

Concerning answering my questions. You never answered as to why you say Mark 16:17, is a sign of being filled with the Holy Spirit, but you say Mark 16:18 is testing God? These are two different verses, but if you look at the punciation they are one sentence.
---Rob on 7/9/09

batieste: "On the day of Pentecost a new covenant began called GRACE. New rules..."

On the contrary, the new covenant is like a mortgage - the same rules (laws) but different terms. In the OT, God chose the Israelites to bring his word to the world. They failed in their purpose by keeping the laws for themselves. The new terms is with anyone who will listen and bring the world the gospel of the Kingdom of God and how to get there. God's purpose is to populate the Kingdom.
---Steveng on 7/8/09

Rob, In reference to 1 Corinthian 13:1-30, I have already explained that to you. The moderator is slow on my replies.

The first sign that you have received the Holy Ghost is speaking in Tongues like the Apostles Act 2:1-4, Like the Gentiles Acts 10:45-, like Paul's disciples Acts 19:1-6. What Paul speaks about the spiritual gifts are different from the first sign. NOT THE SAME.

But, The Church of the Corinth all received the holy spirit the same way the Apostles did. And that was proven in 1 Corinthians 1:2 .You can't be saved without the holy spirit ST. John3:5. And you do receive the holy spirit when you when you so called let God in your heart. Jesus pours it out the proof is speaking in tongues.
---batieste on 7/8/09

Batieste, you say that speaking in tongues is evidence of being Filled with the Holy Spirit. If this is indeed true, why do you avoid answering the question I asked you as to why the Apostle Paul wrote what he did in 1 Corinthians 12:1=30?
---Rob on 7/7/09

As for the thief on the on the cross, ST. John 16:7
7Nevertheless I tell you the truth, It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you, but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
The Holy Spirit was not available until the day of Pentecost. On the day of Pentecost a new covenant began called GRACE. New rules . And guess what we are still in the covenant of GRACE we still receive the holy spirit just like the apostles did.
---batieste on 7/7/09

beckie, I wouldn't worry about tongues. there are many gifts bestowed upon a christian by God, but there is one that is overpowering. Not everyone can speak in tongues. Just the same that not everyone can teach, be an apostle, or heal. Even though christians can do everything, but not everything is profitable. You will know at the time a gift is needed to be performed with God's blessing. Even the prophets of the OT didn't prophesy every single day.

Meanwhile, just perform your regular duties. Do an online KJV bible search for "one another," "each other," and "encourag" because living a christian life is a 24/7 lifestyle. You should be prepared daily to perform miracles greater than Jesus when the time comes.
---Steveng on 7/7/09

Rob, Salvation is a spiritual gift Is that something that you want cause you act like you don't want any

When you receive the holy spirit, The proof that you have received it is speaking in tongues. The Apostles spoke in tongues Act 2:1-4, When the Gentiles received the holy ghost they spoke in tongues Act 10:45-, Then Paul came across John's disciples in Acts 19:1-6.

When the holy ghost was received they ALL spoke in tongues. this is the proof that you have received the holy spirit.

The tongues that you speak at first receiving the holy spirit and the GIFT of tongues are different from each other.

The Corinth church was already saved, Hint they called it the CHURCH of the Corinth. and 1 Corinthian 1:2 says the book was written to the SAINTS, THOSE THAT ARE SANCTIFIED. THEY already spoke in tongues. PAUL is correcting them on when and who to speak in tongues. Paul says 1 Corinthians14:18 that's he speaks in tongues more than all of you.

---batieste on 7/7/09

adetunji- The thief on the cross was a has-been: he was dying. He was not going to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit on the cross at death. Jesus told the thief he would be in Paradise that day, not Heaven. God & the angels only live in Heaven. Why would Jesus speak in tongues? He could have, if He had wanted to. Mark 16:17 Jesus Christ said, "And these signs shall follow them that believe, In My Name shall they cast out devils, they shall speak with new tongues...." People who go to Jesus Christ Just As they Are & expect to stay that way are in for a rude awakening.
---Betty on 7/7/09

Rob, you are exactly right. Truth is the ENEMY is the first to ALWAYS raise doubt..."are you really saved?" or "do you really have enough faith."

Next to money nothing has caused more congregational schizmata than tongues.

Again, non-tongue talkers like Billy Graham, Chuck Swindoll and John MacArthur are not saved according to Baptiste. This of course is nonsense and a Satanic diversion.

The questioner should believe (faith) and let God do what he wants when he wants. The questioner can be assured many went to heaven like the thief on the cross who expressed their faith and were with the father that very same day tongues or no tongues.
---larry on 7/6/09

Batieste, you always use what is written in Mark 16:17 to say speaking in tongues is evidence of a person being saved and filled with the Holy Spirit. In the past, I have shared with you when, where, and by whom this FALSE TEACHING got it's start. What I shared with you is documented historical evidence, but you still reject it as being true.

If speaking in tongues is evidence of a person being filled with the Holy Spirit, why did the Apostle Paul write what he did in 1 Corinthians 12:1-30?

Also you told Darlene she needs to read all scripture and take it in context. Yet when you share Mark 16:17, you always ignore verse 18 or take it out of context. Isn't that being hypocritical?

Ladies & Gentlemen, thanks for your contributions. I will like to remind you that the Lord Jesus Christ is our perfect model, our only way to God. HE never boasted of speaking in tongues, never used tongues publicly. He never instructed that we must speak in tongues to get to heaven. We know Father Abraham, Moses & Elijah, King David are with the Lord. They never used tongues publicly. The man inspired to write the song "Just as I am" accepted Jesus on his death bed. The thief on the right was confirmed by the Lord to be heaven bound never spoke in tongues. May the Lord enlighten us more. AMEN.

1 Corinthians 1:2

2To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christtheir Lord and ours:
---batieste on 7/6/09

Rob, I have only given scriptures that are in context with the chapters they are in.

You and anyone else are welcome to confront me all you want. My replys will be chapter and verse, In context like always.

You should just obey what the bible has to say in stead of arguing it all the time.

Isaiah 28:11 with stamering lips and will he speak to his people

---batieste on 7/6/09

Since I was baptized in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the HOLY SPIIRIT. I was baptized in the name of JESUS since that is the son.

The passage to Isiah is not written to the church as such. It is written to the people of Israel. GOD was speaking directly to the Jews. On the day of Penecoast the Jewish Apostles got up and witnessed to the Jews in tounges or native languages. For tounges means the ability to speak in languages.

No where in the bible is it commanded that you must speak in tounges. It is commanded that we love others. How much love is shown when adding a command not found in the bible?

Batieste, you won't answer the questions I have asked you with a simple YES or NO because you know the very things you are trying to pass on as being TRUTH are twisting what is written scripture. You are doing what is written in Romans 1:25.

You have been exposed many times by many people because of your distortion and perversion.

Myself along with others have confroted, and will continue to confront you for doing this.
---Rob on 7/5/09

Rob, Jesus can't lie. He is faithful to his word. I believe you are counting on and hoping that he bends his comands for you.
I'm giving you scriptures that are in context. I believe you are convicted... And you react by calling me a lier and other names. That's ok
You can't get angry at me, I didn't write the bible. I brought scriptures and truth to your knowledge.. And I believe I have expose to you who our God really is. If you really can't understand the scriptures.. Then they are hiden to you. One plants, one waters, God gives the increase...
God Bless..... You.
---Batieste on 7/5/09

Batieste, why do you always avoid answering specific questions?

Is this because you really don't know and understand God's Truths as they are written, or is it because you have a passion for dwelling in lies, distortion, and perversion?
---Rob on 7/5/09

Rob, Isaiah 28:11 says 11For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. If you belong to God , you speak in tongues.

You cant go round it because Jesus says if you believe these sign will follow.

Rob, He didn't say if some believed, He didn't say if Jews believe, He said Those who believe. So those that believe in Jesus will speak in tongues etc. etc... And those who don't will be condemned.

Rob, He didn't say to go play with snakes or drink poison. but if you want to do that's up to you. But I recommend that you speak in tongues and be baptised in Jesus name before you start trying anything.

Batieste, when the Apostle Paul wrote his epistles to the Church in Corinth, were they saved?
---Rob on 7/4/09

Batieste, Mark 16:18 does not say IF they pick up snakes with their hands, and it does not say IF they drink deadly poison, it says they WILL pick up snakes, and WHEN they drink deadly poison. In verse 17 it says these signs will follow them.

You say verse 18 is testing God. Would not verse 17 also be testing God since it is part of the same sentence?
---Rob on 7/3/09

Larry, How do you know that you have enough faith?

Do you think weak faith pleases God? Do you think just a bit of faith will get someone into heaven? How does one really know that they are on the right track?

God pours out his spirit, and when you first recieve the holy spirt you speak in tongues, Its not for people in church to understand you, Its Proof for you that you have been sealed by God. Now, here is something different, the Gith of tongues. which is different from the tongues when you first recieve the holy ghost. There two different things.

baptiste, settle down. "If you are his people you will speak in tongues?" C'mon!

They know we are christians by our tongues?

From Abraham to Billy Graham it has and always will be about faith, not gifts or even signs but faith.
Most of the instruction on tongues surrounds the immature church at Corinth. They were chasing the spactacular and missing the core values. That is why Corinth was both awash in tongues, drunkeness and promiscuity. If I travel to Brazil and suddenly start evangelizing in Portugese that would be the gift of tongues.
Standing in church uttering with no interpretation or edification for believers and certainly unbelievers is not a gift.
Tongues was a sign of the reverse of Babel.

Two things

Pride - sorry, like the story.
Luk 18:11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
Luk 18:12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

Doubt - dont glory, but dont doubt!
Mat 14:31 -- O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
Mat 21:21 -- Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea, it shall be done.

God Bless You

Darlene,Mark 16:17 says And these sign will accompany those who believe. It doesnt't say SOME, it doesn't say these SIGNS MIGHT come to you, IT SAYS THOSE WHO BELIEVE. And you must believe to please GOD. And only believers Go to heaven.
For the other signs I know that you aren't supposed to test God. Like drinking poison on purpose. But If you do and you speak in tongues you may survive if its Gods will.

And as for casting out demons, I can't see them, But when I say Jesus's name all demons must flee. Psalms 34:1 1I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

Act 2:38 38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Batieste sorry not to be argumentative,Mark 16:16,17 doesn't say have to speak in tongues to be saved. It's a means to recognize believers, doesn't mean all will do all those things, all the time, merely they can when empowered-led by God to do so,salvation's for all time. How many demons have you cast out,do all saved people you know cast out demons? If must speak in tongues,Mark 16:17,18,to be saved, then must cast out demons, drink deadly things, heal sick, take up serpents because according to your thinking it is part of the package of salvation too,do all the saved you know do that? Mark 16:15 he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved. 2Corinthians11:3 But I fear,by any means, your minds be corrupted from simplicity that's in Christ.
---Darlene_1 on 7/3/09

Here in at 16:30-33 "30-And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

31-And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

32-And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.

33-And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes, and was baptized, he and all his, straightway". We are told what a person must do to the saved. Add anything to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you are adding to Scripture which position, regardless of your sincerity, is on shaky ground!!!
---mima on 7/3/09

Darlene, The bible does say you need to speak in tongues.

Mark 16:16-17
16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons, they will speak in new tongues,

If you believe in Jesus verse 17 you will speak in tongues. And even before that it was prophesied by Isaiah 28:11 11 For with stammering lips and another tongue
He will speak to this people,

He speaks to HIS PEOPLE with other tongues.

Batieste,I have always taken the Bible as a whole for all of the 59 years I've been following Jesus by obedience and to say I don't like any part of the Bible is a childish trick to demean someones walk with God. I love every part of the Bible because it is the Word of my God. No where does it say in the Bible we must speak in tongues to be saved. We are born of the Spirit,Jesus. Acts 1:8 shows us the Gift of the Baptism of the Holy Ghost with evidence of tongues is given to empower us for ministering, not salvation. The Apostles were all saved before their Upper Room expeience of the Baptism of HG with tongues,so are we. The holy Ghost Baptism is a Gift and a Gift isn't something you have to have.
---Darlene_1 on 7/3/09

Acts 10:45 the Gin tiles received the Holy Ghost.

45The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. 46For they heard them speaking in tongues[a] and praising God.

Then Peter said, 47"Can anyone keep these people from being baptized with water? They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have."

Even you read the whole chapters of the verses I gave it will still be on the same subject that we are talking about. because many of you pull scriptures and they are out of context. Try reading the whole chapter before you throw a verse.

Rob, the new covenant began when Jesus ascended.

John 16:7
7But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you, but if I go, I will send him to you.

And when the new covenant began you needed to be born again of the water and the spirit to enter heaven ST. John 3:5

And i dont believe that you understand Mark16:18., it confuses you. You believe that 1 Corinthians was written for the unsaved to be saved. It was written to those that are already saved 1 Corinthians 1:2

Exzucuh, Nicodemus did confess to Jesus that he believed he was from God, and yet Jesus told him that he needed to be born of the water and the spirit. So confessing out loud and with your heart that Jesus is Lord and Savior is not enough to be saved. But its a start.

Batieste, you wrote one must accept the Bible all together and not pick and choose out of it what you like.

Yet when you share Mark 16:16-17, as usual you leave out Mark 16:18 which is part of the same paragraph.

In the past, I have shared with you the Gospel of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were written to the Jews under the OLD COVENANT, and OLD DISPENSATION. You continue to refuse to believe and accept these facts even though they are clearly written in the Bible.
---Rob on 7/1/09

That is what I said many times If a person has the Holy Spirit they have nothing to worry about but tongues are not the evidence you have the Holy Spirit, The Holy Spirit is the evidence of himself, And power in the believers life comes from the Holy Spirit. Anyone seeing a person change from sinner to saint confesses that the holy Spirit has done a work in their life. A devil can see a sinful
life and know the Holy Spirit is not around, they know The Holy Spirit produces fruit and you can tell what kind tree it is by the fruit it produces.

there is only one doctrine... one faith, one God. and only ONE way to heaven.

Matthew 7:13-15

13Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

14Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

15Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Jesus said Acts 1:8

8But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

We dont defeat the devil, its not our fight. Its the Lord fight.

Our job is obey what the lord has said. And to call on him always good or bad.

Mark 16:17

only in jesus name can you cast out devils.

exzucuh- If a person truly has the Holy Spirit, no demons are going to enter them or attack their body. The Holy Spirit is God, and demons fear God. Some claim to have the Holy Spirit and they don't, even though they 'speak in tongues'. Demons can speak in tongues also. We all need the Genuine One-the real Holy Spirit. We are supposed to be baptized with water and the Spirit. When we are under the authority of the Holy Ghost (He is our teacher), we don't have to fight - He is God and He calls the shots. The enemy must submit to the Holy Ghost, just as they would to Jesus Christ & the Father God Almighty.
---Betty on 6/30/09

We need the Holy Ghost, for He is our seal unto the Day of Redemption. Ephesians 4:30 "And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption." There should be some proof if you have the Holy Spirit with you or not. For one thing, He would tell you so. Speaking in tongues is not only for others to hear when He decides to speak publicly, He may also pray through you to the Father God or Jesus using a language you don't know. There would be signs that He is with you (Mark 16:17). Have you confessed all your sins to Jesus & repented? Have you asked Him to cleanse you from secret faults?

Beckie, i agree more with Leslie. In Mark 16: 17-18, the Lord said 5 signs shall follow believers. Some Christians say they must see the sign of 1 out of 5 before they are convinced that you have the Spirit of God. Worry not, but continue being obedient to Jesus Christ & pray that His Holy Spirit completely controls your life. When HE wills, HE will manifest HIMSELF in you in anyway that matches HIS purpose at any particular time. Acts 2:4 says "began to speak the Spirit gave them utterance". It was not & shall never be by human mandate.

This is a misleading doctrine! God says that he will give to his children when they ask for the Holy Spirit. He says if Wicked fathers know how to give good gifts to their children, then how much more does the Heavenly Father know how to.

This is a doctrine that has people babbling and wandering around thinking that God did not "choose" them if they have yet to speak in "tongues." The scriptures DO NOT substantiate this ideaology. Yes, tongues are a gift but in only TWO ways:

1. To benefit non-believers (foreign languages foreigners understand)
2. As a spiritual prayer language for you to pray in private.

If you think tongues can protect you from the devil you are deceived in your thinking. You must summit to God and resist the devil. I know people devil possessed that speak in tongues and they speak in tongues to try to make you believe they have the Holy Spirit, I speak in tongues and made the mistake to think it could drive away the devil but he would not budge. If you are not obeying the Gospel and under the blood you are an open door to Satan.
The gifts are for ministry, not warfare you fight with a sword and the Armour of God if you want to defeat the devil. But if you have not overcome your flesh you will never defeat him you empower him.

You ought to have the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Your house (body) is open to attack from the enemy unless you have the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38 Peter said, "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the Name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." Mark 16:17 Jesus said, "And these signs shall follow them that believe, In My Name shall they cast out devils, they shall speak with new tongues...." You need to ask God for the baptism of the Holy Ghost more than once a day, every day until He answers you. Don't give up.

If you read the beginning of 1Corinthians verse 1:2

2To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christtheir Lord and ours:

Paul is speaking to those that are all ready saved.... those that have been baptized and received the holy spirit just like in Acts 2:1-4 and have obeyed Acts2:38. there are two different types of tongues, One is the proof that you have received the spirit and the other is one of the spiritual gifts.

Mark 16:16-17
16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons, they will speak in new tongues,

From the book of Romans to the book of Jude they are all meant those that have reicieved the holy spirit likwe the apostlee in Acts 2:1-4 like the gentiles Act10:45-, or like the disciples Act 19:1-6

The bible wasn't written in chapter and verse, it was written in paragraphs. You have to read at the least the whole chapter to understand what the writer was talking about.

Isaiah 28:10-12

10For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, and there a little:

11For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.

12To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest, and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

If you are his people you will speak in tongues

"I don't speak in tongues. Does this mean I'm not saved?" No.

Beckie Paul answers your question with a question, "do all speak with tongues?"
The obvious answer is no. However, we are instructed to "covet earnestly the best gifts: ... a more excellent way. Follow after 'charity' (brotherly love and good will), and desire spiritual [gifts], but rather that you may 'prophesy' (speak forth by divine inspiration, to teach, admonish and comfort others). If any man speak, [let him speak] as the oracles of God, if any man minister, [let him do it] as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ."
Trust the Father for salvation, not what you do or not do.

Not speaking in tongues does NOT mean that you are not saved. It does mean that you have NOT be baptized with the Holy Spirit. If you desire the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, just ask God to fill you with, & baptize you with the Holy Spirit and Fire, and to pour His Spirit out on you. If you ask God, He will give this to you.

Larry, St. john 3:5 states, you must be born of the water and the spirit to enter the kingdom of God.
Larry, Nicodemus did confest to Jesus that he did believe he was from God. Was that enough to be saved? Jesus told Niccodemus, you must be born of the water and the spirit to enter heaven. So confessing your love for Jesus is not enough.

Jesus is the only one who pours out the spirit.
The apostles were in the covenant of grace, and so are we. so nothing has changed on recieving the holy spirit. the apsotles recieved the spirit in Act2:1-4. the gentiles recieved the spirit Act10:45-. they recieved it the same way the apsotles did. And so shall we. nothing has changed.

The problem with people is ignorance and not knowing God or about how his Spirit deals with man, The Holy Spirit comes in you at the point you believe and submit to God to obey the Gospel, The Holy Spirit comes upon you when you are baptized in the Holy Spirit or you seek Gods spirit , praise him or someone prays for you, The Holy Spirit works with you if you do ministry and pray for the sick to empower you through gifts and anointing, I cannot fully explain this for lack of space but the scriptures are clear, you can study them for yourself. The Holy Spirit in you, upon you, and with you.

Someone tried to tell me the same thing once about not being saved because I didn't speak in tongues........but God's word tells us different.
I will go by My Father's Word, and not man.
No where in the Bible does it say IF you don't speak in tongues your not saved
---Gabby on 6/24/09

Nowhere in scripture is it stated that those who do not have or use this gift are not saved.

The absurdity of the question is answered in the following query.

Billy Graham does not speek in tongues and therefore???????????

---larry on 6/24/09

bobby that is true, but all must first recieve the holy spirit first. and all the apostles did recieve it in Act2:1-4,
and the book you just qouted was written to all those that had the same experince in Acts 2:1-4. Bobby if you read the first chapeter of 1 Corinthians1:2 2To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christtheir Lord and ours:

they already have salvation, hes not telling you how to recieve it, thats done in ST. John 3:5 and Acts 2:1-4 And Acts 2:38

"There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit...But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills" (1 Corinthians 12:4-11).

Nicodemus did accept Jesus to be from God. st john 3:1-2

Jesus said, except a man be born of the water and of the spirit he cannot enter the kingdom of God. ST. John 3:3-5

its takes more than just acceping God in you heart.

I can accept God in my heart all day long... But, Jesus did say accept a man be born of the water and of the spirit he can not enter Heaven

Andy~ That is good you do...just not everybody does. God bless.

now before the tongue fanatics jump on this blog, i want to ask a question, however i DO SPEAK in TONGUES and i do Believe the gift is there for everyone to USE. (some say that to have salvation one needs tongues doe that indicate that the criminal at Jesus side is lost? since the Spirit was not yet distributed). Tongues are the proof that you received the power to Acts 1.8 so that the signs of Matt 28.19-20 could confirm your preaching.
tongues are for personal edification when your in a mess, or just scared
tongues is the beginning of Gods working through you and whoever ghot the tongue should pray to God to receive more, interpretations, prophecie etcetera.
---andy3996 on 6/24/09

Why on Earth would you think that you are not saved? Scripture does NOT support the idea that every single believer should speak in tongues.

Some people are born deaf and dumb, they will never be able to speak at all. Thus, of course, they could never speak in "tongues" either. If tongues-speaking is required for salvation, then all deaf and dumb people are automatically damned.
---eric1968 on 6/23/09

Beckie~ Please don't pursue speaking in tongues. Most of that is a 'glam gimmick.'

Seek the word of God and meditate upon it morning, noon, and night, and keep it tucked deep inside your heart. This will keep you from deceptions.

I just read where you read the Bible and pray every are most definitely on the right track. If you are being obedient to God's word and living in the Spirit/Light, and not feeding to the flesh/darkness then you can know you are saved.

Read the book of I John for true salvation assurance.

God bless you Beckie!
