IF we believe that Gods word is true then in any doctrine we hold we MUST consider these verses:
Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
Hebrews 13:9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines.
Psalms 138:2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name
Malachi 3:6 For I [am] the LORD, I change not, therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

Any time any of our doctrines does not agree with what the bible says we have trouble. ANd rest assured that the NT must also agree with the OT, and the book of mormom.

First check out these translations.

NLT - Col 2:14 - He canceled the record that contained the charges against us. He took it and destroyed it by nailing it to Christ's cross.

ESV - Col 2:14 - by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. ---Samuel on 7/12/10

The charges were against the House of Israel and Judah. The 10 largest parts of Israel had been Divorced....by the law of Adultery.
Both were freed by the death of Christ. Now as free by law to marry again. 10 virgins.....
Heb 8:8-10 does away with the Old Covenant and establishes the new. Heb 9 explains further.

Yes to all three questions with one caveat. We need to have the HOLY SPIRIT by surrendering to GOD's will to understand scripture.

The Jewish leader took their thoughts and beliefs to scripture to have the scripture prove what they wanted it to say. Instead of letting scripture teach them.
---Samuel on 7/8/10

Of course God tells the truth: Numbers 23:19 God is not a man that He should lie
***Our sufficiency is of God, even when we don't acknowledge it

Puzzlement can be explained by people just simply not reading. The Word explains itself right there in the text, but people want to ask each other "what do you think this means?" It means what it says it means, do not privately interpret
---Sean on 7/7/10

1. Yes, God tells the truth.
2. The Bible is the word of God, but there is a sense in which it is not sufficient.
3. In various cases both explanations can be correct.
Now as to 2, consider:
"And we have the word of prophecy made more sure, whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day-star arise in your hearts: knowing this first, that no prophecy of scripture is of private interpretation. For no prophecy ever came by the will of man: but men spake from God, being moved by the Holy Spirit."
The sense is that private interpretation is not enough. You find the true interpretation through the tradition of the true Church. That's what I think.
---Robert on 12/4/09

God's Word is sufficient for all things. Ask for wisdom, knowledge, understanding in studying the Bible. God will give it to you. The Word gives life and light. It is our light and our pathway.
---Sandra on 9/9/09

Glenn---
Yes, Yes and Yes.

God is all truth.

The Bible is His Word and it is sufficient for all our spiritual needs. It is not a science textbook or a medical guide, but it does not disagree with true science in any way. We do not have to copy all the social and cultural habits of people that lived when it was written. Being described in the Bible does not necessarily make them a model for modern life .

Many passages in the Bible are not
self-explanatory (though we may have been told otherwise.) So there are legitimate disagreements
Spiritual truth is spiritually discerned...
and people vary in their spiritual development.
---Donna66 on 9/9/09

Yes, God is The Truth. The Bible in it's original transcription records God's words, and yes it is sufficient onto the saving of the soul. Both, many people rely upon the English versions which contain translation inaccuracies, rather than researching copies of the original writings in their own tongues, and also obstinate flesh rebells against the Spirit. Jesus spoke many times in parables in order to keep those desiring to malign the kingdom (those like the unrepentant and unsaved) out of his holy kingdom. The Holy Bible is not another guide book of a religion, but it is the word of God, spoken and breathed by the Lord God himself.
---Eloy on 9/9/09

The Bible, God's Word is our directional road-map in the way we should go. As far as The Truth, God cannot lie. There is maybe more to God's Word (the world cannot contain the books), the Bible is what was given to us and is enough for us to handle.
---Diane on 9/8/09

That is very true Tom 2. You are talking about the evidence of a true Christian. It is something to just talk but we need to do the walk too.
What I was supposing is that the same power that was in the early Church is still the same power of today in the life of every believer. Of course many are not walking the walk. I don't know how they will be judge if they are genuine believers, but what I believe is, if they are genuine believers you will see the works.
---MarkV. on 8/7/09

if I understand steveg correctly ,he is correct. You can know the word backwards and forwards, but if you dont live in the spirit, follow the spirit, seek the spirit, daily, having daily time alone with God,then then word is hust words not affecting your spirit as they should.Truth is not within your hesrt,it may be in your mind, but what use is it there, unless you take the step to live it.
---tom2 on 8/7/09

yes and yes. part three answers is in scripture that says for now while we live in the flesh we know in part,as a fuzzy mirrior, but when we are with the lord we will know all.alive ,living in the flesh we will always be puzzled at times.
---tom2 on 8/7/09

Shawn M T, where have you been? We have not seen anymore of you. Your help is needed much around here brother. Hope that you are out there still reading our post and have not lost faith in answering here. I know that much of what you say can be very helpful to so many, blessing brother
---MarkV. on 7/31/09

Jesus remains with the same power today as yesterday. The Christians you talk about that have little faith is because they are not genuine believers. For true faith comes from God and that faith does not fade away. The same power that was in the apostolic church is here today. Christ. If a person has the Spirit of God the Truth he gives carries the same power, because Christ is the Truth. And since God initiates our salvation, it is He who chooses who the elect are. And all of them will come to Christ through His Word and none of them will be lost. Miracles are not miracles to God. He already knew whom you were going to pray for and why. Since He has seen it all, nothing changes for Him.
---MarkV. on 7/8/09

MarkV: "The Apostles and all those who spoke without Scripture in hand, had been taught by God Himself, in the person of Christ. What they spoke was the Word of God through the power of the Holy Spirit. There was no New Testament written yet. Jesus is the Word."

And today's christians have the same power, but their faith is weak or they don't believe the power given to them by God. Christians should be able to perform greater miracles than Jesus. Miracles are a testament that God surely does exist. But Because miracles rarely exist in today's world, there is doubt.
---Steveng on 7/7/09

The Word is sufficient as the beginning of knowledge. It also tells us to develop a personal relationship with Him - something most christians have not developed. The apostles, and all the other christians who followed in their footsteps, were to go out into the world to preach the coming Kingdom of God without bringing any scripts or books with them. They relied, and still do, upon the Holy Spirit to speak through them.

To Whosoever Has An Ear To Hear?

Answer to question :

1) The Ocean tells no lies,
Yet standing on its shores a
Crooked man still hears them. ~ 'A Haiku'

2) God's Spirit of Truth Guides us into All Truth : He has already placed in the Heart(1John2:27,Heb.8:10-11)! God's Grace is sufficient. Drawing us by the Hopes of Faith of an 'Open Heart' & not by the sight of words. If swayed by words or speech, one is lost.

3) The fear of the LORD is the beginning of Wisdom. Departure from evil & the Knowledge of the Holy is Understanding(Pro.2:6,Job 28:28). God is not the author of confusion/puzzlement nor gives us the spirit of fear(which has torment), but the spirit of Power, Love, & a Sound Mind to Trust in Him.
---Shawn.M.T on 7/4/09

The Word of God is sufficient to bring anyone God has chosen to Christ, for faith comes from hearing, hearing the Word of God. "For the Word became flesh" "Your Word is a lamp to my feet" "Nor do we distort the Word of God" "For the Word of God is living" "My son if you except My Word" "But My Word will never pass away" "you have the Word of eternal life"
---MarkV. on 7/3/09

NO! The word of God is NOT sufficient to rise during the first resurrection.

Even Satan knows the bible - forward and backward. Knows more about it than christians. That's why he can twist verses around as well as he can.

What is sufficient? Having a real personal relationship with God. Most christians know of God by just reading the bible. They know he exists, but deny his being, deny his power. Christians today don't have the real relationship like the one you have with your earthly friends. The word of God is NOT sufficient to rise during the first resurrection.

1...Do you believe God tells the truth? I believe that I do not always understand His truth! 2. Is the Bible the word of God? And is it sufficient? Yes, the Bible is the word of God. Sufficient...It's all that we have, the Bible, except God Himself. Get close to God, is the best way to know Him. Really know Him...3. A lack of knowledge. Also, in disagreement, God tells me to go with what I know. Good advice for all true Christians. Never disagree with what the Bible says, just keep studying until you get it. Is my best answer.
---catherine on 7/2/09

1) the bible doesn't tell the truth the bible IS truth.
2) yes, the bible is fully sufficient to separate, convict and save.
3) puzzlement could be a lack of understanding for the souls (40% of the globe) who have not been exposed to the gospel, though in the U.S. most of the puzzlement is rooted in unbelief and lack of faith or outright rebellion.
---larry on 7/2/09

Glenn,
Yes God tells the truth, it's the one thing he cannot do is lie.

Yes the Word of God is sufficient and the bible is the Word of God. It's not Allah's word, it's Jehovah's word.

3) The reason why people disagree and argue and reason out the word is because they don't have the Holy Spirit interpreting the revelation knowledge to them. The word was Revealed to Peter when He said to Jesus, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. No one taught Peter that, it was revealed to Him by God our Father.

People before us and people after us. Where would we be without them? Not heretics, we would be feral! A big thanks to all the people in the world who have been, are and will be. Mark 12:27: "He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living". Romans 10:13-17. It is not the Word of God which saves but the Living Word of God, in us and among us. Hence, "Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.", which is the embodied Word of God. Also why is of utmost importance, "Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way, first ..."
Tefillin in the heart, in the mind...

DavidA, you miss understand my answer. My answer was concerning the meaning of the passages at hand, John 5:39,40. "The meaning of the passage" What God's meaning was.
I was "not speaking about the application of the passage." Every passage has its own application. Many times many applications. But the text has only one meaning. In the context only one meaning.
---MarkV. on 7/1/09

MarkV, I believe there is more life in those words than you yet see. Yes that was written for the Jews but also for our strengthening because human nature has not changed. The spirit that led the Jews to crucify Jesus while wrongly thinking they were doing God a favor now entices us to put our faith anywhere and everywhere rather than where the scriptures themselves say to put it which is in Jesus. We think by uplifting the scriptures we uplift God but we go too far and lift them above God. That same wicked spirit that fooled the first man and then the men of the 1st covenant is now intent on tricking us into lifting up the sign post but never entering the city. The sign post is true and trustworthy but it is not the city.
---DavidA on 7/1/09

DavidA, I am sorry but I disagree with your interpretation of John 5:39-40. Jesus is not saying that Scripture cannot bring eternal life. In fact He says Scripture testifies of Him. They read it looking for eternal life and missed what it had to say about Christ so that they could have eternal life. He is saying, but you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life," If they had understood the testimony of Christ in Scripture they would have come to Him but they went in with another idea (eternal life) and missed the One who gives eternal life. It was right there in Scripture.

Quentin, my copy of KJV answers 2) this way (quoting Jesus). John 5:39-40 "Search the scriptures, for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life."

If KJV quotes Jesus in saying scriptures are not sufficient, why are you now saying they are?

cheers
---DavidA on 6/29/09

2) Is the Bible the word of God, and is it sufficient? Jesus is the word of God, he sent his Spirit which wrote the Bible, and by his command he's written in our hearts we should live. The Bible IS divinely inspired, but insufficient without the God who wrote it. Put a bible in a heretic's hands and it's sufficient to lead you to hell.

3) Can some peoples puzzlement be explained by their having a lack of knowledge about a subject, or by their disagreeing with what the Bible says? Plausible but no, being led by the Spirit(Romans 8:14) makes a son of God, not knowing the Bible. Some folks are bewildered while having a Bible and don't understand. Knowledge saves no one "for by the law is the knowledge of sin."
---Pharisee on 6/29/09

\\Yes the King James Bible is the Word of God!!\\

How is the King James Bible the Word of God any more than any other translation?

(We'll leave aside the issue of WHICH RECENSION OF SEVERAL of the KJV for now.)

1)?. Num 23:19 - God [is] not a man, that He should lie, neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath He said, and shall He not do [it]? or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?
"2)?. 2Ti 3:16 - All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God.
Psa 12:6 - The words of the LORD [are] pure words: [as] silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
3)?. Hsa 4:6 - My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.
1Pe 2:6 - Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on Him shall not be confounded.

Disagreements are simply based on personal perspectives. Our Father's Word is forever unfolding to the finite mind.

When you know who your God the little bits the translators added and took away will and can never take away the confidence/ surety you have in him those parts that may or ma/ynot fit matters not as long as you hear Gods voice.

The things that will puzzle the ''educated'' wont puzzle the stated.

I know who my God is and his word is sufficient to keep me.I may fail but God will never fail.

Yes God's Word is the complete and only truth!

Yes the King James Bible is the Word of God!! And Yes if the Word of God is put into Practice as a manual for daily Living it is sufficient!!

Peoples puzzlement can be explained by their lack of knowledge about a subject and by their disagreeing with what the Bible Says!! God's Word says "My people perish for their lack of knowledge!!

Glenn ... I don't think amyone here has ever said they disagree with what the Bible says.

What some disagree with is the interpretation that others put on what the Bible says.

Jesus says that people have to put his word to use in order to be wise, every word of God is necessary for real spiritual growth, the scriptures testify to eternal life,we are to present ourselves as ones approved,we have to have a humble and lowly spirit,we must have God's spirit of truth,we must earnestly seek God, and hold onto his word and teachings.
Yes and yes to the first two questions.
