Darlene 1 -- I think I know the experience you tell of. A number of times I have seen a "picture" with the "eye of the spirit" that occurs while I am awake and aware. It sort of superimposes itself over what my physical eyes are seeing. It's not as elaborate or colorful as what is described by those who share their "visions". But it is powerfully meaningful to me and usually leads me into fervent prayer. Perhaps this is an "open Vision", I don't know. I seldom feel led to share it.

Donna66,I guess I am slow but,I still don't get exactly "open vision" really is or how it works. I know what was said but not sure if it was in room with them or in Eye of Spirit(my name for it when you see pictures in your mind)somewhat like a dream but awake. I think 99 & 99/100% of the time my Mini Visions,Eye of Spirit, different from full vision in room with you, which I see is strictly so I will pray for people who are in need and danger. The first thing God gave me as a commited Christian was the heart and call to serve in Intercessary Prayer. Bruce B we are all anointed for whatever area God puts us in to serve. Without that special anointing from God we can't do anything Spiritually.

BruceB-
Thanks for giving a Biblical answer. I had never heard of an "open" vision.

I won't say that the Lord has quit giving people visions. But I believe they are rare and for a specific purpose which is discernable to whomever has the vision.
Normally, I tend to ignore people who talk about visions. Their visions don't stir anything within my spirit.

We have the Word of God which is sufficient.
And if, for some reason, the Lord chooses to give me a vision, it is for me. There's probably no need to share it, no matter how colorful or "exciting".

Actually, Donna,

I just couldn't resist my curiosity to see who realized the truth, or if there would be a continuation of this idea of an open vision being some special heavenly-hookup only available to certain qualified Christians.

This wording, open vision, is found once, in 1Sa 3:1, and it is not technically a term: it's merely a translation, which means, a "divine communication"... from God, to the priests (or prophets), ie: thus saith the Lord, or, let it be so.

In this particular case, God was displeased because of Eli's sons stealing raw flesh from His offerings. So... He put the kibosh on their doings--by croakin' them, "raising up" Samuel in their stead, and making His word scarce.

there is nothing different today about Gods word,God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, all the promises he has made are forever, atleast while we still live in the world.Everything jesus promised, all the signs and wonders are ,and apply today, all the gifts of the dpirit, because the spirit is still in the world working.People who believe that these gifts, and signs ,amd wonders were only for the apostles are wrong.

Thanks, BruceB!

I'd hate to embarrass myself by mis-labeling all my visions and confusing all those who eagerly wait to hear of them.
---Donna66 on 8/6/09

Donna,

How could you not know this term? It's right there in the Bible...

An "open vision" is the lower-level type, which is kinda like a tract house, in that they're all the same: except the paint-colors are varied.

A "closed vision" is like a custom-built mansion on 3 acres... and, therefore, only those "special anointed" ones can find them--seems they are only visible at night. (As far as I can tell... it has something to do with how much grease ya slip the preacher, every Sunday. It helps to have a land-line into God-Central, as well.)

Twice I have had two people(out of literally hundreds) tell me that they saw an OpenVision(seeing someone or something just as it would appear naturally.
While talking to people about their salvation these people told me that while they were praying, they opened their eyes and there before them stood Jesus. In both instances he was waving them on towards the altar during an altar call!!! One of these people was shy one was not neither person was overly impressive to me as a Christian!!! But I believe them when they said they saw a vision of Jesus.

Would somebody please explain what an "open" vision is? One reason I come to these blogs is to learn.
---Donna66 on 8/5/09

God is God. He can give open visions whenever He wants to whomever it wants.

anon,

Who's we?

I get tuned up from the workin's of the Holy Spirit... all the time. Why... just last week, God told me that all those clunkers gettin' all that cash thrown at them was just a scam cooked up by Congress to rob the poorest people--blind. Of course, I already had that pretty well figured out, on my own. He just confirmed my assumptions as fact.

So, if some anointed one has a night vision, is that considered closed? (It is difficult to see in the dark.)

BTW: I ain't never run into any anointed ones--well, indirectly, maybe a few: but, they were on a TV program lookin' for some additional bucks with which to anoint their bank accounts.
---BruceB on 8/4/09

BruceB, LOL! Too funny.

Obviously if you're not having or getting open visions, then there's no visions to get just yet and thus considered, closed visions but we don't call them that.

Haven't you ever heard testimonies of anointed people who are getting an open vision? That means that you are awake and all of a sudden the Lord takes the scales off of your eyes and reveals something to you that He wants you to see. Whether for the purpose of prayer or prophetic uterance to the Body of Christ.

How often did it happen in the bible? Not very often and only to godly men who had suffered extreme things for the kingdom. I have to question people who have "visions" all the time. Even the men in the bible didn't have them frequently ie: once or twice in their lifetime. Can it happen? Of course, God can do what He wants, I just believe it to be very rare.Be careful, the devil can imitate God in this manner, physic visions etc., even be accurate, demons do have knowledge, that doesn't mean it's from God.
---KellieB on 8/4/09

I take it for granted, there must be a difference between an "open" vision and a "closed" vision. But I can't quite figure out what that is. I see Cluny's havin' a problem, as well.

Please, clarify your question.
---BruceB on 8/4/09

As often as He wants to. Shouldn't your question be what requirements and adjustments do you need to make in your life in order to have God give you an open vision?

Has anyone ever asked you to cover your face because you came down the mountain from spending hours upon hours with God and your face shined so brightly, that it blinded people? I am referring to Moses.

Do you have that kind of Glory upon your life? Because it is possible. But there is a way to God through Jesus, through Worship, Repentence, through the Blood of Jesus, etc.,
---anon on 8/3/09

"Visions" serve only pride and ego. Visions no longer serve God in any way. There used to be "prophets" in the OLD testament, but no longer in the NEW testament times.

Hebrews 1 and 2
"God spoke of old to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days He has spoken to us by a Son".

Only The Son hung on the cross and suffered pain. God does not "speak" by using books, prophets, pastors/ministers, or "teachers".

God will communicate His will in each person's life through our conscience/mind if we are truly willing to hear His will (not the "will" of "the book", pastor, etc.).

My sheep hear MY "voice" (John 10:27, RSV).

Yes Visions are for now,God/Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. Don't know what you mean by "open visions" tell me please? The visions I've had would come like a movie or TV Show running in my mind, moving pictures in what I call the eye of my spirit. I learned not to get upset, like I did a little at first, because I was helpless to stop what I saw happening,so I quickly learned God wanted me to pray for those who would be affected by the events. I have seen train wreaks,typhons/hurricanes,airplane crashes and more. Then later I would see them on TV in the news, they looked just like I saw in my mind or someone mentioned the event and say some of their family was in it which would confirm my prayers did good, some miraculous.
