NO. God said in Isaiah 54:17 "This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me". There is no righteousness outside of God & Jesus Christ.

Mark_Eaton,

As you wish.

Romans 8:16
"it is the Spirit himself (God's spirit) bearing witness WITH OUR SPIRIT..."...

...only that way can we be a child of God.

On a personal level, the word "spirit" refers to the kind of person we truly are (soldiers have a fighting spirit, sports players have a 'team spirit' of 'enthusiastic cooperation').

Godly people are to have a 'righteousness spirit' (the "fruit of light", Ephesians 5:8).

Yes, we are to have a righteousness of our own (aside/apart from the righteousness that belongs to Christ) so that GOD'S spirit (it is living) can relate to OUR SPIRIT.

Our demeanor/spirit must be "good and right and true" (having a noble/righteous character).

StevenG:

"When you are mocking me, you are mocking God."

Prov.26:4 "Do not answer a fool according to his folly,Or you will also be like him"

I will not be posting to you again.

I choose to stay away from so called "brethren" who do not speak the truth, do not speak in love, do not edify others, and do not study to show themselves approved.

You sir, are the worst kind of judgmental self-righteous Pharisee I have seen here, in these blogs.

Good day to you.

Rhonda: "Steveng you claim worldly knowledge ...the world belongs to Satan right now 2Corin 4:4"

Your arrogance is showing. A person gains worldly knowledge to earn a living. What does your bible say about earning a living and providing for your family? What about feeding the poor and homeless?

Rhonda: "those who SEEK God worship in spirit and truth why choose to babble a few words in a post without scripture?"

Just because a person does not know verses right off the top of their head it doesn't mean the person doesn't know the concept behind it. Besides, I get a lot of my knowledge from God who gives it out freely. Prove that what I've posted in the past isn't biblical. I keep the Sabbath, do you?

Steveng you claim worldly knowledge ...the world belongs to Satan right now 2Corin 4:4

those who SEEK God worship in spirit and truth why choose to babble a few words in a post without scripture?

I'm beginning to think you and poster Cluny are one in the same ...lots of words posted NEVER support opinions from scripture ...even Christ quoted OT in much of his response to Pharisee's

a slight twist of meaning is easily passed on to those who are here seeking understanding and rather than respond with Truth FROM Gods Word you choose to evade and dodge with a cutesy riddle all wrapped up in an enigma ...choosing deception rather than discussion
---Rhonda on 9/10/09

Mark_Eaton: "Enlighten us scholar, with thy knowledge. Or hast thou none?

Thou chooses to tease with thy most superior intellect. Pray, enlighten us all with the answer to thy riddle."

When you are mocking me, you are mocking God.

Although I have an abundance of knowledge, but nowhere near Solomon's nor Benjamin Franklin's, although I taught (I'm California certified) at a private business college for a couple of years, although I built and sold businesses, although I'm blessed with writing, artistic and musical skills, but all this is nothing without God.

Mark_Eaton: "Now you ask about who will replenish the new earth?

If I knew everything, I would be God. I do not think we have enough knowledge to speculate. After the 1000 year reign of Christ and Satan is thrown into the lake of fire and the white throne judgement has happened, who is left?

Beats me. Why don't you tell me instead? Who is left? Seems like everyone is either dead, resurrected, or glorified."

There are two resurrections:

The first resurrection are the christians who are favored by God to enter the Kingdom of God - heaven.

All the others are living on earth.

The second resurrection are all the other dead who live during all the time on the old earth. They will be judged from the Book of Life, according to their works.

Blessed are those that rise at the first resurrection for they shall not see the second death.
---Steveng on 9/8/09

Any righteousness apart from God is self righteousness, and isn't valid for God's use.
Scripture says man's self righteousness is as filthy rags in God's eyes.
---Diane on 9/8/09

No, even our righteousness (good works) is as filthy rags unto the Lord. We need a righteousness apart from ourself, an imputed righteousness given to us by the Holy Spirit.
---Tony on 9/6/09

Do you truly believe that a loving would God punish someone to hell for being a good samaritan while he or she was living?
---Steveng on 9/2/09

John 3:3 was in response to this statement.

Now you ask about who will replenish the new earth?

If I knew everything, I would be God. I do not think we have enough knowledge to speculate. After the 1000 year reign of Christ and Satan is thrown into the lake of fire and the white throne judgement has happened, who is left?

Beats me. Why don't you tell me instead? Who is left? Seems like everyone is either dead, resurrected, or glorified.
---Mark_Eaton on 9/5/09

There is righteous people without Christ, they are called, "Self-righteous" people. Sorry, but those don't make it into the Kingdom of God. As John 3:3 states, a person need's to be born again by the Spirit in order for him to not only enter the kingdom of God but receive the imputed righteousness of Christ.
When a believer does good, the good he does is credited to Christ whose righteousness is now ours as believers so I do believe that a good smaritian who is not saved, or born of the Spirit can go to hell if he does good deeds. For the good that he does, gives no glory to God. Anything not of faith is sin. Which is called separation from God in mind and heart.

I'm in total agreement with the answer given by---Josef.
---mima on 9/5/09

"Can we possess righteousness apart from Christ?" No.

Those that think they can will be like the guest at the wedding without a wedding garment, or those attempting to tell Jesus what 'they have accomplished' in His name.

"For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God." Rom.10:3
---Josef on 9/4/09

scripture tells us that men hate the light, that they love the dark, because the light reveals what they really are.So wheres their righteousness? They have none, unless they choose to follow jesus.
---tom2 on 9/3/09

Proverbs 20:11: "Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right."
1 John 3:7: "Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous."
But you fellows from the other side of the fence, do carry on repeating your mantra...

alan8566_of_uk, I believe the opposite of what you thought. Apparently I made not myself clear.

well lets see what important to the world.Hollywood stars, bad boys and girls, football, baseball, sports in general, money, cars, homes, sex, and on and on.so without christ in your life where are any of us righteous?
---tom2 on 9/3/09

Mark_Eaton: "You disregard the statements of Jesus on who should enter the kingdom of heaven?

John 3:3 "Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.""

There are two sets of people - the christians who go to heaven as mentioned in John 3:3 and the people who populate the earth. Only those in christ will go to heaven, the others will populate the earth because there is a new heaven and a new earth. If all the christians are in heaven and all the other people who are not christian go to hell, who will populate the new earth?
---Steveng on 9/3/09

This question goes to the very heart of man's condition. And that condition is total degradation completely and totally lost of any righteousness aside from the righteousness that is found in the Lord Jesus Christ. This fact of course atest to the great love our Savior has for us. Holy Holy Holy is the Lord God Almighty, Let us recognized this fact and glory in it!!! Now 72 years of age I realized that I'm going to enter in(and have in fact already partially entered in) to a time of worship and glory and praise for the Lord Jesus Christ that will last on for eternity!!!! Praise his Holly name. Thank you Jesus!!!
---mima on 9/3/09

No. We cannot posses righteousness without Christ. Even WITH Christ it is not OUR righteousness that counts.

When we stand in judgment (however you interpret this) it does us no good at all to say "I repented of all my sins" because, in fact, you committed many sins you never even REGARDED as sins. In addition to ignorance, human nature is so flawed, it can rationalize away some of the most grievous offenses.

No. The only thing that will do is to say, "my life was hid in Jesus Christ and His Righteousness is MY Righteousness"!
Then, there is nothing to judge.

Nana, StevenG:

You disregard the statements of Jesus on who should enter the kingdom of heaven?

John 3:3 "Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God."

Even if you are the best Sammaritan in the world, this is the qualification you MUST have.
---Mark_Eaton on 9/3/09

Nana ... I hope then that you are not a good samaritan, for you say you will be punished to hell for being one!

Strange, because Jesus said we should love our neighbour, and gave the good samaritan as en example of being a neighbour.
---alan8566_of_uk on 9/3/09

NO, period end of discussion.

If you think so try getting to heaven without going through Christ. Best of luck.
---Larry on 9/3/09

No, there is NO righteousnes apart from Jesus Christ.

steveng, what exactly do your comments have to do with this question? And anyway, God doesn't "send" people to hell, they choose to go there and their suffering will be for eternity whether you or I or anyone else likes it or not.
---tommy3007 on 9/2/09

There are two resurrections - one in the near future and, two, after the thousand reign of Christ.

The first resurrection is when Jesus returns for the second time, when the dead in Christ will rise and the living in Christ will be caught up with the dead.

The second resurrection is when all the other dead from all of earth's past history will rise and be judged from the Book of Life, according to their works. Do you truly believe that a loving would God punish someone to hell for being a good samaritan while he or she was living?
---Steveng on 9/2/09

nope,nope,and nope again.
