Christians Acting Worldly
Cluny: "Isn't a computer something of "this world"?
And therefore, is not using one "worldly"--even for this select group of sanctified saints on CN?"
Why stop at the computer, isn't the bible itself something of "this world"?
---Steveng on 11/2/09|
Carla I notice Cluny ducked your question about his/her denomination. Many do and I believe if they answered truthfully we would discover they are members of cults, or fringe groups, or not Christian at all.
Some of the theology promoted here is not Biblical, in fact antiBiblical so I am convinced quite a few are wolves in the fold.
I am a member of the Christian & Missionary Alliance, a conservative Christian denomination. I have no objection to anyone knowing that. Why do others refuse to tell us their denomination. For the reasons above, obviously.
I respect Atheist, who blogs here, as he is up-front about his position. Conversely I have no respect for the deceivers.

christianity has become fashionable
so people who do not know where they belong or have ever been to church as well as church goers all say they are christians
by their fruit you will know them says the Bible
so not everyone who says they are christians are necessarily christians

|| What denomination are you from cluny?
The values that are set out in the bible concerning salvation!
what other values were you suggesting are/not Christian?.
---Carla3939 on 9/19/09||
My point is that any phrase in the form "adjective + values", be it "traditional family values" or "Christian values" are merely bubble words.
They escape nimbly from the garden of meaning and burst, leaving nothing but a memory of bright sound and positive emotion, but conveying no information.
---Cluny on 9/24/09|
After posting, I realized I should have mentioned also that a good father doesn't hesitate to discipline his child. Anyone who has been a Christian for any length of time, has probably experienced this. But that also is a sign of God's love, not His rejection.
---Donna66 on 9/21/09|
Movies, tv & computers helped change things a lot. The news is no longer only the news, they want you to think their way and go for their lifestyles. (Lifestyles of movie stars, tv stars, tv celebrities of any kind.) Also, some Christians want to think they can give up going to church & go to obscene degenerate places like Las Vegas, Hawaii, bars, etc. Holiness and reverencing God is not their goal. Families move around too much & separate too much. There is too much divorce & too many retirement homes, too many mothers who have to work outside of the home. Too many preschools and babysitters. Old, young & in-between should all stay a family unit.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
---Carla3939 on 9/21/09|
'' You are stupid because God has blinded you''.
If you were as close and perfect to God as you claim you would not use negative connotations so okay a lot of people vote for your comments but that popularity is not an indication to put people down we are all sinners and but for the grace of God, we strive daily to get to know him.
Be careful who you call stupid it's uncalled for and unchristian like. The person asked a question why name call God did not tell you that he cursed anyone for seeking he said seek and ye shall find. That's what the person rightly did, you needed to only answer without name calling!
---Carla3939 on 9/21/09|
In reference to the 100% thing-
I believe that God wants 100% of our love.
He knows every now and again we will stumble and fall but he still expects us to have our hearts and Eyes on him for what we should do 100% of the time.
It is what is in the heart that counts.
Try your best everyday NOT to sin. When you see yourself in a situation that you might say or do something that isn't Godly, stop yourself and listen to that still small voice which is God telling you what to do. BUT if/when you do sin by, Jesus is the mediator for you that says "Father, let me continue to work on this vessel. They aren't perfected yet".
Have a heart for God, and keep letting Christ work on you till he says he is finished.
---miche3754 on 9/21/09|
Catherine --I have to agree with Carla3939.
When we belong to Jesus, God is our father.
Does a good father say to his child "if you aren't 100% what I want you to be, I don't want you?" or "If you don't concentrate 100% on your lessons, I won't educate you?"
If a child who obeys most of the time, breaks a rule and plays with a fragile item and breaks it, does his father...make him leave home? Disown him?
No, he hopes the child will confess, say he's sorry, behave better. That's because his LOVE for the child outweighs his expectations for the child.
Abraham, David, Paul and other great men of the Bible teach us that God gives second chances (or more).
---Donna66 on 9/20/09|
I was not much of a liar when I was lost. I am not a liar now that I am saved. And I don't know why I am even bothering to answer this godless person....A Christian is a slave or adherent of Christ. There are no part-time Christians. If God cannot have you 100% then God does not want you, at all. You are stupid because God has blinded you. I did not say we were perfect. All those men of God that you mentioned were 100%. For the Lord thy God.
---catherine on 9/20/09|
You say that God only wants 100 percentors I'm glad that word does not even exist and is simply not true David was not 100%, Apostle Paul was not 100% in fact not even Abraham was 100%.
We don't live to boast but to encourage and help one another, we all sin and come short of the glory of God. If you say you are 100% and have nothing wrong with you then you are a liar and the truth is not in you!

\\ Because we are no longer challenged(cos the world don't care about christian values) when the church faces Laws which contradict the Laws of salvation the Leaders remain silent except that is \\
1. Carla, when did the world EVER care about Christian values?
2. Just what do you mean by "Christian values"?
---Cluny on 9/18/09|
These days God is looking for people who will remain faithful to Him! Not people who will run off abandon Him at the first sign of trouble or when life gets hard. He is not looking for people who will only date Him. I felled in love with Jesus the moment that He saved me. I did not date Jesus and no engagement at all. I married Him the moment that He saved me. Oh, but don't think that I was this great all Christian over night, for I was not. I had some problems with the flesh for a couple of years after He saved me. If Jesus can not have you 100% of the time, He does not want you. These are the people that He is looking for today. Only the 100 percentors.

Another view: A lot of pastors, leaders in the church ar at fault for this, now. Pastors are looking at numbers(members) now. who has the largest churches, raise the most money and so forth. They let a lot of things slip by(sin) in the church because they do not want to offend anyone. They certainly don't want to run the money givers away. Like the heavy tithers etc...When the christians look and see how the unsaved get away with so much then they feel they can't away with evilness also. But what they don't realize is: God is going to judge us all one day according to our works.
---Robyn on 9/15/09|
Because we are no longer challenged(cos the world don't care about christian values) when the church faces Laws which contradict the Laws of salvation the Leaders remain silent except that is The Catholic Church yes everyone is ready to run them down but when it comes to certain issues they are far from silent and I know despite all the fighting amongst Christians That's what God will see, ones who regardless of what denomination spoke up for the some of the wrong things in Society.
The Catholic Church despite their doctrine does Miles better in the area of defining christian values publically than any other'' Christian denomination!

Robyn ->>>>I think what defines the world and what defines a christian should be clearly understood among christians<<<<<
Now that we have studied so much and are so much more enlightened, can YOU say what defines the world and what defines the Christian?
I don't believe Christians will have a common understanding about this.
---Donna66 on 9/11/09|
I think what defines the world and what defines a christian should be clearly understood among christians. The world does not really care for the things of Christ, so what do they care? Many years ago everything was a sin and was wrong for a christian. Christians have been studying and learning the true Word of God over the years. Therefore so many untruths and outright lies have been done away with. Some teachers and preachers just plain did not know the Word of God. They got into the pulpit and scared a lot of people with their false teaching and preaching. We are to always study and ask God for direction and spiritual guidance for ourselves. Then we won't be so easily led astray. This is part of working out our own soul salvation.

There was a time when soft drinks were considered "worldly." As one fictional minister said, "If we allow people to drink ginger ale, how can we make them aware of the dangers of drinking ale?"
\\For example: co-ed dorms in collage - when I was in collage, there was no such thing, so a Christian didn't have to decide if this was right or wrong, now they do. (They could read the Bible to get directions, but many Christians don't do this.) \\
Can you please give us book, chapter, and verse concerning what the Bible says about co-ed dorms in collage, or even college, for that matter?
---Cluny on 9/9/09|
There are any number of things that are causing Christian to act more like, "the world". First, there are more things to tempt a Christian now than there were 50 or 100 years ago. Second, many of the churches do not define what is sin is what is not - leaving the Christian to make their own decision as to what is right and wrong. For example: co-ed dorms in collage - when I was in collage, there was no such thing, so a Christian didn't have to decide if this was right or wrong, now they do. (They could read the Bible to get directions, but many Christians don't do this.) On I could go, but this will get you thinking about it.

Because MANY are called, but FEW are chosen.
The way is narrow that leads to life, and FEW are those who find it.
Only those who are TRULY after God's heart, who seek him with ALL Of their heart, strength, might, etc., will come to know Him.
I love those who love me is what God says.
Draw nigh unto God and God will draw nigh unto you, but instead, we draw nigh unto the TV, doing activities to occupy our time, and selfish things to satisfy our fleshly desires in life. It's sad.

Rom 12:2 "And do not be conformed to the world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind..."
The problem and the solution are both in this one verse.
You all are right, we have been conformed to the world. To its technology, its thinking, its attitudes, its music, its culture, its book, its movies.
Consider this, when was the last time any of us were called longsuffering or patient? Read 1 Cor 13 and remember, this is how we are supposed to act! It is not just a chapter for weddings but it is a manual on how to deal with the relationships in your life.
Reading God's word, that is how you renew your mind.

>>>Everyone wants to be young and nobody want to get old. So therefore the mothers and deacons in the church become quiet<<<
It is certainly true that adults become quiet and refuse to teach the ways of God., But surely there is more to it than that. I have no answer. Young people are definitely in control these days... have been since they were small. Parents want to be "best friends" with their offspring hoping to "influence" them for good.
A church I attended awhile back, the youth pastor discovered the whole youth group behind the church smoking pot. He came down on them rather hard. They simply left the youth group AND the church, never to return. The parents had NO "influence".

People of every generation seem to view their parents generation as too strict, and their children's generation as too permissive. The rebellious children of today become the moralizing grandparents of tomorrow. It has always been like this.
---StrongAxe on 9/5/09|
We are to be unspotted by the world. The Bible says these things will happen in the endtimes. I'm older but it's not my age that causes me to make the following statement. There are many in ministry and in the church that dress like the world. I have been to Spirit filled churches where the Pastor's wife and others wear very tight clothing. I realize there are younger women in the faith that have not been taught. But this particular area concerns me. The Bible says, "without holiness no man can see the Lord." I recently saw a young woman on tv preaching like a house on fire. It was evident that she has a strong calling on her life. But she dressed in very tight fitting clothing, that did not become a woman in ministry.
---Alena on 9/5/09|
Cluny, It's so true! My Baptist (originally Amish) grandfather would not MENTION a womans LEG. When I was small he would ask, "Are your limbs warm enough?" (because I wore shorts in the summer).
---Donna66 on 9/4/09|
The teachings in the church has ceased pretty much on morals, family, right and wrong. Everyone wants to be young and nobody want to get old. So therefore the mothers and deacons in the church become quiet and refuse to teach the younger women and men the ways of God. Pastors are focusing more on money and pleasure.Scared to divide the Word properly. Very little prayer, worship and praise in the church. Little wonder the world has taken over the church. God never changes. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
---Robyn on 9/4/09|
As a matter of fact, preachers and moralists were making the same complaints 50 and 100 years--and even longer--ago.
What's "worldly"? To one of my Baptist grandmothers, playing cards and smoking were worldly. My other Baptist grandmother smoked and played cards during the week with the same ladies she saw in her Sunday School class.
To the Amish, having an automobile and not dressing like a certain class of 17th century German peasant and having buttons on your clothes and not hooks and eyes are all "worldly."
And don't even ask about the Russian Old Believers.
In the Byzantine empire, it was considered worldly and even effeminate for a man to shave off his beard.
---Cluny on 9/4/09|
God sure hasn't changed. Sure enough that God's people are letting worldlyness come in & is even worse today than yr's ago. The god of this world(satan)getting those to put one foot in for God & the other foot into his realm of worldly things to be lost. Scripture says in Joshua 25 v 15. You canNot serve 2 masters.
---Lawrence on 9/4/09|
I have been reading a book titled, The Gospel According To Jesus by John Mac Arthur, Jr. and in it he says "...salvation that does not alter a life-style of sin and transform the heart of the sinner is not a genuine salvation." so I would take it that people who do not change and keep going with the rest of the world and have not given everything to Christ have not truly been born again, they have only tasted.
