How To Make Someone Believe
How do I get my son to believe in the LORD again. He told me that he does not believe any more. What I do?
Blog Question.

I was your son. Pray. Anyone can see the doctrinal mess/confusion churches are in. Which one is right? Which ones wrong. Who can you trust?
None. None have all truth or answers. So what is your hope?
Tell him there is one true teacher. Christ. Let scripture tell him...with two scriptures or more witnessing. No more modern doctrinal unsurety's. All he has to do is ask only Teacher. Perhaps you 2. Seek the second scriptural witness for proof.
May he be hedged in protection until. 2 Corinthians 13:1

Give your son to God. God doesn't push Himself on us. God gives us all choices in life. If you keep pushing your son into this, you could make it worst. I know you love him a great deal and he's bless to have a mother who loves him unconditionaly but let go and let GOD. Only God can fix this. God can do what no man can do and that's the impossible.
---Mrs_Michael-Sharon on 11/30/09

The answer to your question is you can't make some believe.

It is the job of the Holy Spirit, Your job is to speak the word. Once you completed that, you're done. Trust in God. Note I said speak the word, not sell Jesus like he is a Laundry Detergent.

Do give them a bible and tell them to read it alone without any prejudice of anykind. Tell them to pretend it is a book they found in a desert and know nothing about. Then leave them alone. Jesus Christ is NOT for sale!

He is not saved, else he would be a believer rather than a nonbeliever. Pray for him and ask him if he would like to get saved. If he says Yes, then take his hand and lead him in the sinner's prayer.
---Eloy on 10/31/09

What came straight to my mind as i read your question is Romans 10:17 "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God". The word of God through the Holy Bible, Christian books, music, films, plays, testimonies, Christian fun-fairs or retreats that has programmes for his age-grade etc. Your environment, house, close friends, etc being "Christian" too will help. Try your best as the Lord leads you, God will help you too. Be praying for him and sharing with him your own conviction occasionally.

MarkV, sorry I have been away. I own and moderate my own site and it takes much of my time. I agree with your words, I always have. Only God can draw a man, and when one falls away, I think the weight then is on the individual to repent and get back in line, God already called him.

My only point to the OP was that WE can't do anything to make a man believe. While we belong to the body of Messiah, we are individuals who have individual relationships with God. I hope (pray) this works out for her son. If she raised him well, I am sure it will.

Peace my friend.

Ken, the very reason I keep saying that when someone prays to God, it is because only God can change a heart. If God cannot do this miracle in a persons heart, and it takes for the free will of the individual, then why even pray to God to do His will, for it would really be the will of the person that gets done.
Not many seem to agree that it is God who draws individuals to Himself. That it is God who changes the hearts of the lost, that endwells the new believers with His Spirit. They want to give the credit to man. Nothing for God and later they talk about how awesome God is, after they have stripped the deity of God. His Omnipotence.
---MarkV. on 9/15/09

We can no more make a person believe than we can make a rock speak. I agree with the Mod on both accounts, and I would ask why he doesn't believe anymore. What has changed? But don't push, pray, live according to God's will. Answer his questions, but don't give answers when questions are not asked. We as Christians often make that mistake, we forget, it is the Father who draws you, but we must seek in order to find. Answering questions before they are asked will fall on deaf ears.

Blessings.

Faith is a gift. It can't be transmitted from one person to another. It comes from God. We need just to leave non-believers in God's hands. He will save them at the time he has appointed for them. So don't worry.

\\ Cluny, you also display a very wicked manner when someone does not agree with you, \\

And of course, you NEVER do that, do you?
---Cluny on 9/12/09

Cluny, you also display a very wicked manner when someone does not agree with you, or when someone is discussing things with you. Why do you even come on line? Wouldn't you be better off discussing cooking or playing golf with others? Or maybe you would act the same with them too. Where is the Love Cluny?
---MarkV. on 9/12/09

\\ Cluny, The love every genuine believer has never fails. You look at the passage from the flesh point of view. Not from the Spiritual view.\\

No, you do. So there.
---Cluny on 9/11/09

Cluny, The love every genuine believer has never fails. You look at the passage from the flesh point of view. Not from the Spiritual view. God is Love, and His plants the Love of God in every believer. And God never fails. Man does as Peter had.
Jesus used the word Simon in v.31 the repetition of the name implied an earnest and somber tone of warning. Christ Himself had already given Simon the name Peter (6:14), but here He reverted to the old name, perhaps to intensify His rebuke about Peter's fleshly over confidence. "I have prayed for you" The pronoun "you" is singular. Although it is clear He prayed for all of them (John 17:6-19), He personally assured Peter of His prayers and of Peter's ultimate victory.
---MarkV. on 9/11/09

\\ The answer is, he never had true Love, Jesus Christ, because True Love never fails.\\

Luke 22:

31And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:

32But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

33And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.

34And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

Apparently, Simon never really loved Christ, did he?
---Cluny on 9/10/09

Cluny, I thought you would know the answers to your questions. Here is your questions,
"If this young man mentioned in the original post stopped loving Christ (apparently), how do you know that YOU will not stop loving Him?"
The answer is, he never had true Love, Jesus Christ, because True Love never fails. And once a person has Him, He never fails. "Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God, and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, For God is Love"

\\ Cluny, I know that I am saved because of the love I have for Christ. I also know I am saved because the Spirit testifies to my spirit that Jesus is the Lord and King of my life. No one can have love for Christ and be lost. \\

If this young man mentioned in the original post stopped loving Christ (apparently), how do you know that YOU will not stop loving Him?

So far, all you're saying is, "I'm saved because I say I am."
---Cluny on 9/10/09

Cluny, I know that I am saved because of the love I have for Christ. I also know I am saved because the Spirit testifies to my spirit that Jesus is the Lord and King of my life. No one can have love for Christ and be lost.
I said, "Those who are save always believe and trust in the Gospel of Christ. At no time do they stop believing in the works of Christ if they are saved."
The reason is because God will make us stand. Rom. 14:4. And because we believe the promises of Jesus, "..so that you are not lacking in any spiritual gift (faith) as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will sustain you to the end guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.."1 Cor. 1:7-9.

You can't make someone believe in God! That's the responsibilitly of the Holy Spirit. You can be a positive witness to him by your actions. And, as the Bible states, be ready be ready to answer any questions he may have. (Make sure you are aware, because just his actions may indicate a question.) In this case, you might also ask him what made him reject God. While this remark is at the end of this blog, it's the most important - pray for him and for the Lord to give you wisdom. Have seen it work!

How old is your son? A 16 year old, a 20 year old or a 30 yr old might say this for different reasons.

It's not uncommon for young people to get discouraged with Christianity for a variety of reasons. Sometimes, when they say they no longer believe, they mean they just have serious doubts. See if you can get him to talk to you...listen, don't preach.

If he has his mind set that he doesn't believe, it won't help to pressure him. But don't lose hope. If he made a sincere decision for the Lord earlier in life, the Lord will not cease working on him.

This happened to me in my early twenties. Though I claimed not to believe, the Lord kept drawing me back. Pray and remember the Lord loves your son even more than you do.
---Donna66 on 9/8/09

Let me tell you, what I believe!
I believe you are going to hear from believer and nonbeliever.
I believe you will have to decide who you are going to believe.
God word to you, the lord! Said, anything you ask believing I will do!
Now, if you ask and dont see it, does its mean you dont believe?

Dont be fool, it going to get even harder to believe!

Some here believe the world is a friend.
But, to me! You can believe or not!
Only time will tell! Dad said, be patient!
I say, so be it!
God bless you

My kid also, good kid! But said no god!
Trust in the lord.

\\Cluny, that depends! There is only ONE Gospel today that can save a soul. Unfortunately there are over 1001 different Gospels being preached.\\

Quite right. Our faith should be in Christ Himself and not a theory about how He saves us. This is a difference many people don't get.

\\Those who are save always believe and trust in the Gospel of Christ. At no time do they stop believing in the works of Christ if they are saved. \\

Then how do YOU know that YOU are really saved?
If someone can just stop trusting, how do you know that YOU won't?

And isn't the act of saving faith and trust itself a WORK?

You can talk until you are blue in the face - stop.
Prayer, prayer, intercessional prayer, and the prayer of parents and grandparents.
This is a spritual problem and efforts in the flesh will be fruitless.
Read John 17 and you will understand the father sends souls to the son who will not lose them. This promise is as strong at the relationship between the father and the son.
My guess is that the son believes in the Lord as a person but not as his savior. He is immature in Christ and is angry because many of his problems were not resolved as expected as for his belief in the Lord.
Thus the statement "I do not believe ANY MORE" Sovereignty is tough to understand to even the most mature in Christ.

Christ never made anyone believe on him and his message of Gods Kingdom on Earth

There is nothing you can do

It is your son's life and his choice this is why ALL humans have free moral agency to choose

If you "make him" or "force him" or "preach to him" you may become the reason he will distance himself further ...

Matt 7:6, 13:45 explains do not attempt to convert people

Matt 5:16 shine light as an example by your actions ...lights don't talk

BTW--so much for OSAS, right?
---Cluny on 9/8/09

Cluny, that depends! There is only ONE Gospel today that can save a soul. Unfortunately there are over 1001 different Gospels being preached.

Now if this young man was told there was pie in the sky by and by, or that his acne (just an example) would be healed simply by mustering up enough faith...or if he was told he must speak in tongues .....there's a problem!

OUR faith is in the PERSON of JESUS CHRIST who died and rose again for the forgivness of SIN.

Our Faith must be made personal. Head knowledge won't save anyone. Many people KNOW the Gospel. There is no power in KNOWING something. The POWER comes as we identify in Jesus Death and resurrection(POWER) Life.

I am with the moderator. How can he be saved and not believe in God?
I believe Cluny does not get it. Those who are save always believe and trust in the Gospel of Christ. At no time do they stop believing in the works of Christ if they are saved.
No one can make another believe by faith, only the Holy Spirit can. And if God makes him believe, in no way can he undo what God has already done. Cluny believes man is more powerful then God, which is what she is suggesting.
She has the wrong God, not the God of the Bible. "To his own Master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand" Rom. 14:4.

You can't make anyone believe what they don't want to believe. However, you should discuss his reasons for why he no longer believes. He may just "feel" like God doesn't exist.
---amand6348 on 9/8/09

Hi, Jackie . . . you might tell us what he thinks believing means. For me, now, believing does not mean just accepting the beliefs about Jesus and the Gospel and Bible. Believing means how I am loving > personally submitting to God and seeing how God has me loving Him and caring about all people, and getting into personal Family love sharing with my Christian brothers and sisters. And seeing how Jesus is, by becoming loving like He is in God's love > "as He is, so are we in this world." (in 1 John 4:17) And this spreads to other people, if this is really in me, to make them the same way. What are you spreading, because of it being in you, to make him the same way?
---Bill_bila5659 on 9/8/09

How will he be saved if he does not believe.

I think you are praying that he is but infact you don't know where is unbelief is going to end up.

You can only try to be the best example of what God means to you and be there for him like the prodigal son he has to leard through rebelion and if and when he come to the right conclusion, when ever that will be be there to welcome him home.

It happens to the best of us as mothers we can only pray, hope and believe the word when it says train up a child...when he grows old he will not depart.

My prayers are with you I am a mother of 6 two older sons and only God knows sees and understands.
---Carla3939 on 9/8/09

You cannot get your son to believe, so don't even try.

Why? Because you are not the Holy Spirit.

You can explain WHY you believe, but in the last analysis, your son must choose.

BTW--so much for OSAS, right?

If your son said that he does not believe anymore, then he is Not saved anymore. A person can beleive that God exist & not be saved. You'l have to pray, even pray with fasting & it sure takes patience.
---Lawrence on 9/8/09

Jackie. Live your life in the Lord Jesus, be an example for your son. Love Him, forgive him and people, give to those who ask of you, show mercy to people, and your son will see your good works and say, "wow mom, I see Jesus in you."

He probably needs to see Jesus in you. Some don't believe because they don't see. Some need signs and wonders. Pray and ask God to reveal Himself to your son. Loose the Holy Spirit of conviction on your son in Jesus name. PRAYER and BEING A WITNESS, not witnessing to him. But show him Jesus in you, the Hope of Glory.
