hello, family what I do believe that whatever God want for me..would not be something that challenges my love or my devotion to him. It will always be something in alignment with 1.the will and purpose of God's plan for my life.2.probably would be somthing to help me grow spirtually..3. It would definitely,my opinion Not be something or someone who compromized or destracted me at one time or another.

Don, all we need to do is look at Jesus, as well as the Apostles for our examples.

To be conformed to His Image is being conformed to His death. being made conformable to His Death....(Phil 3) Jesus lived in total submission to the Father to do His will even unto death.

Paul said, be followers of me the way I follow Christ. Paul lived in complete obedience to the will of God even unto death. Phil 2 Keeping this mind in you that was also in Christ Jesus

Death to self. It's Self that has free will, the YOU kept at the cross daily.

Jesus laid down His life for US, Paul laid down his life for YOU, we lay down our lives the same way. We endure persecution , even death to bring the GOOD NEWS to the Lost!!!

Yes Don. God did not raise you for your own happiness or ambitions.
God, who knew ye before you were formed in your mother's womd formed you for one thing.
He is a jealous God and is not sharing the stage with anyone including you.
Good question and God bless.

"We must look around and see where He is working and make ourselves available to that work...".

You surely don't want to do what "everyone else" is doing. Following the (large) crowd will surely take you down the wrong road away from the Kingdom of God for the road to hell is wide and the road to eternal life is narrow.

Trust only God for your work. You will definately know it's from Him or else He will send you a messenger. Meanwhile, continue doing the two commandments Jesus spoke of. Do an online KJV bible search for "one another," "each other," and "encourag" because living a christian life is a 24/7 lifestyle - not a once a week pep talkby denominational "churches."

Romans 8:29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the first-born among many brethren. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Galatians 6:8 For the one who sows to his own flesh shall from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit shall from the Spirit reap eternal life. The Holy Spirit is always in agreement with the Father and Son. If we walk in the Spirit, we carry out the will of God for our lives.

the will of God for our lives is in the Bible

Although some times we do not have the fine details
For eg. it is God's will that we have successful marriages and good homes, for this reason He says a real Christian should marry only a Christian.

then comes the choice part: the fine detail is do i marry this christian or that christain? this is when we have to depend on the Holy Ghost to direct us to know what is best for us because in either case we will still be in His will

so lets concentrate on following what is in scripture and that is the WILL OF GOD FOR OUR LIVES.

for example should one work as a pastor or as an engineer? one should work at both while waiting for the clear will of God

The will of the Father is that Jesus loses none of them. So that He can raise them up on the Day of the Lord.
---MarkV. on 10/26/09

Agreed, but the question is What is God's will for YOU.

Well, in order to KNOW teh Will of God for YOU life, I would suggest obeying Romans 12:1 & 2. Only then can you KNOW God's will for your life!!!
---kathr4453 on 10/26/09

By the way Mark v, Christ was talking about the ones given him while he was on the earth. You are still not utilizing proper context.
He will not lose the ones that endure to the end with Him NOW.

The will of God spoken by Jesus:
"All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent me.
This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day."

All who come to Christ come from the Father, He draws individuals to Himself, and those individuals are given to Christ, and Christ never rejects any of them. The will of the Father is that Jesus loses none of them. So that He can raise them up on the Day of the Lord.

Mark V, Yes the book Experiencing God by Henry Blackaby is a great source of inspiration. I have taught 3 classes at the prison where my wife and I do volunteer work and it has been great, I find something new every time I open the book. God has given Mr. Blackaby great insight into the need in the church today.

Tommy, you gave a great answer and it reminded me of when I first came to the Lord. In my teachings we had been taught the same thing through this one book and you just mentioned what we are to do,

" We must look around and see where He is working and make ourselves available to that work and allow Him to work through us".

As God begins a work in someone, and He is at work all around us, preparing hearts for the gospel, we must look to see where He is working and to make ourselves available and allow Him to work through us. I believe the book was called, Experiencing God" Thank you brother.
---MarkV. on 10/20/09

God's will for you and every believer is for us to have a close personal relationship with Him through prayer, Bible study and church fellowship and then surrendering our lives to His purposes and glory. We must look around and see where He is working and make ourselves available to that work and allow Him to work through us.

On average our ambitions come from the natural man side of us. God's will for our lives is sometimes not easy to comply with however even after we know God's will for our lives we can still stumble until we align ourselves with God. I believe we must ask God to give us certain characteristics our desires. For several years I knew that I was supposed to be soulwinner but I had very limited access until I ask God, Father I ask you to give me a burden for lost souls. And he did so immediately. And suddenly I saw an explosion of conversions.

"How do you tell the difference between God's will for your life and your own ambitions?"
The Father's will for His children is that we by the faith of His Son yield ourselves to be conformed to the image of His Son. If my ambition is to aspire to that conformation, then there is no difference between my ambition and His will.
I am instructed to "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit" I am to "Make it [my] ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind [my] own business and to work with [my] hands," If I can honestly say that I am, than I can trust that I am within His will. If selfishness or arrogance is involved in what I aspire to, my ambition is not in His will and therein lay the difference.

If you are using your God-given talents, abilities & intelligence etc in a godly way to make useful & legal gains & profits, this is in the will of God. But if in your heart you are scheming, striving & aiming to be higher than other persons, know that you are after your own earthly ambitions. In God's will you do not strive for positions but you are divinely placed as you use your Godly abilities with contentment all the way.

Phil. 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

It may not be the same for everybody, but I have found that I am not always enthusiastic about what God wants me to do. I may find myself in a situation where I'm obligated to do something that makes me doubtful of my ability or suitability for the job. I'm not very well motivated.

But as I approach it...something happens inside interest is sparked... ideas start to come...and to my suprise, I find that I actually end up enjoying and being energized by the task. I was doing the will of God, but was slow to recognize it.
---Donna66 on 10/17/09

the best way is when you notice that you aren,t couseling with him when you make decisions. Now iam not talking about what to have for supper,or where to grocery shop,or buy gas.ambitions usually are connected directly to either money,or material possessions, and at times professions. Just remember as a believer your first job is to love God and your neighbor, and be obidient, and always humble, ambition,is dangerously close to pride.
---tom2 on 10/18/09

Why do today's christians make things so complicated. The will of God was spoken as two commandments by Jesus:

"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind, and love thy neighbour as thyself."

God is the same yesterday and today because God said the same thing in the OT: "And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart..."
---Steveng on 10/17/09

The two things, (God's will and your ambitions), may be the same. The Bible indicates that God will give us the desires of our hearts, (Mark 7:8) He gave us abilities so use them for Him. There is nothing worse than a wasted ability because we think if we enjoy it, it must be wrong. The first and most important step in doing what God wants is TO MAKE YOURSELF AVAILBLE. God can only use you if you allow Him to.

Good question, Don, good answer Donna, including > "When you have a plan of action in mind, what is the outcome you envision?" Also, I would offer that if we can think what the outcome will be, God can do better than we can plan. Plus, if we're making a specific plan, we then can be trying to control what will happen, instead of submitting to God and finding out how You have things and *relating* developing better than we would try for (o:

Prayer starts with "Our Father" > not with "our sins" or trying to get God to solve our problems and meet our needs and do things we want > but first is attention to God and first pleasing Him.
---Bill_bila5659 on 10/16/09

I'll give you an example I am going through now. I've been praying the Lord give me a specific job instead of praying that he simply supply my needs as he already promised in the Gospel. Hope that helps.
---larry on 10/16/09

Very simply stated, the will of GOD brings glory to GOD. YOUR will invariably brings glory to YOU. When you have a plan of action in mind, what is the outcome you envision? I would say, if imagining the attention and recognition you might receive, excites you...reject that idea. It is either NOT God's will, or YOU are not spiritually ready to pursue it.

---Donna66 on 10/16/09

God's will is written and illustrated in the gospels. They are elementary reading.
One's own ambitions are not.
Sometimes both are paralleled in one's spiritual life work.

ambitions leave God out, meaning you dont counsel with his spirit before deciding.Thers so much talk about whats Gods will. I will tell you what his will is,THAT NONE SHOULD how you use the talents given are clearly stated, for the good.AND JESUS WENT ABOUT DOIMG GOOD.
---tom2 on 10/16/09

IF you have a GENUINE love devotion to The Lord and DELIGHT in Him, He knows what are the true desires of your heart, and will give you the desires OF YOUR HEART (not the desires of your WILL).

Psalm 37:4
"Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart".

Each person understands God to be like they themselves are,...either...

If you are judgemental towards other people (prudish and scrutinizing/critical, predatory, aggressive/hostile, etc.), then you will understand God to be the same, but if you are 'live and let live' peaceful towards other people, then you will also be able to know/understand the loving kind God in the same manner.
