Was Christ Sinless

A recent study found, "Only 35% of mainline Protestant church members believe Christ was sinless, 34% believe the Bible is totally accurate, 27% agree that works don't earn heaven, and 20% believe Satan is real."

Moderator - Those stats scare me. Time to get out there and witness more within the so called Body of Christ.

Many people are dissers, and not born-again.

If Jesus wasnt sinless, then all Christians are doomed since His righteousness is imputed to us.

How can a man claim to be a true CHristian and still believe Jesus sinned?
---JackB on 11/21/09

The way to make sinners uncomfortable is to preach the truth of our sins, and the righteousness of Christ/God and the need pf repentance. All of this "make me feel good" preaching is the root cause of it. Until preachers get back to "thus saith the LORD" we will not see true repentance. The churches are failing their commission to preach the Word.

Exactly MarkV, If a sinner can sit in a church and listen to the pastor's "sermon" and not find something to be uncomfortable about they either don't understand the message, or the true Gospel is not being preached. Even as a believer, I find some messages still make ME uncomfortable, by pointing out areas of needed adjustment in my own life. The Gospel is clear, we are ALL sinners in need of a Saviour, or Christians in need of a closer walk with the Lord.

I think it's time to do like Nehemiah and cleanse the Temple, by getting all the things/people who aren't Christs' out. By either evangelizing those lost church members or making them so uncomfortable they will want to get out.
---tommy3007 on 10/19/09

Tommy, wonderful idea. Do you have any idea's as to how to make them uncomfortable? Do you mean by pastors or preachers talking more about hell, a subject that does not get much attention on the pulpit? Is that what you mean?
---MarkV. on 10/19/

The similarity between the actions of Jesus and Nehemiah is the overturning of the tables. In each case, violence is enacted against inanimate objects rather than directly against people.

Surveys are manipulable. The first and third questions are essentials of the faith. And so, if this were a fair representation of 'mainline Protestants', somewhat less than 27% of them are saved, Matthew 7:13-14, 15-27, Luke 13:24, John 10:7-9.

I subscribe to Barna Research group and they do surveys like this. I do not remeber this exact survey but a number of surveys had some of these things in them.

Many churches have become Liberal in their understanding of the Bible and follow historical criticism.

While their are points here I disagree with from some. We all need to stand for these truths about the Sinless nature of JESUS, that works do not earn heaven and that Satan is alive and real.
---Samuel on 10/20/09

Jesus was absolutely sin-less since He is
indeed God Himself. If He were a sinner He
could not have offered Himself up as the
perfect, spotless Lamb of God.
It was for this reason that our Heavenly
Father accepted Him as our Savior and Redeemer. To suggest that He was not sin-less is blasphemy.

Thank you and God bless you, Lewis

I would also like to know exactly who are the people who were surveyed.

If this information is accurate, it confirms to me why the established institutional/church is so lacking. And many church goers pressure me to attend these institutions, telling me to worship with them.

mima, could you supply some more information on this survey?

Well Mima, I guess I'll have to be content to be in the "statistical" minority because I do believe that Jesus Christ lived a perfect sinless life, that the Bible is totally accurate, works don't "get you to heaven" and that Satan is real. I think it's time to do like Nehemiah and cleanse the Temple, by getting all the things/people who aren't Christs' out. By either evangelizing those lost church members or making them so uncomfortable they will want to get out.

Its been said, "When the Church gets into the world there's revival. But, when the world gets into the church [house] there's apostasy [religion: backsliding, nonconformity, noncompliance, disobedience]."

"Mainline Protestant church members". There are 2 types, i.e., born again believers in Jesus Christ & church-goers who aren't born again, but are religious & claim a belief in God, & likely think they're saved though they haven't repented of their sin & sought a personal relationship with Jesus, the Son of God.

Tom's analogy is chilling. The #s he gave, perhaps to some degree, are accurate. I agree Mod. The church-house is "a" mission field needing revival (SALVATION)!

Yes,the gospels clearly tells of jesus being born without sin,the son of God,God the son.Yes there is no sin within God.But he took sin upon himself on the cross, thats why while there dying he said father why have thou forsaken me?Because God could not look upon him,in that instant jesus became sin,and was for the first time without God.
---tom2 on 10/18/09

The statistics would mean more, if we knew WHO they considered "mainline Protestant Churches". To me, that term includes the major liberal churches. Thus there is no surprise in the numbers.
But we also don't know HOW the questions were asked, by WHOM, how many were questioned or how those people were chosen. If it was not a carefully done study, the results means nothing.

My sense is that not many churches, even so-called "Bible believing" ones, are teaching doctrine or apologetics.
---Donna66 on 10/17/09

mima, are you asking a question, or simply making another statement?

Who made this study?

Who were asked? How many?

How do you know this study is valid and not manipulated?

As it is written: there are lies, there are damned lies, and there are statistics.

While we fuss and fight over what the next and present politician will do people are starving for the real Word of God.
Life style evangelism in it's purest form is a farce and joke. We are to let others see what God has done for us but we are also to verbally speak the truth.
Many can tell the sock size of Obama and the hat size of Bush but have no idea what sin sends a person to Hell. Then there are those who say there is no Hell.
Is it you who doesn't know? If so, why? Then, do you really want to know?

well the percentages you mention are still deceived.possibly still lost.remember that out of 2 million taken from egypt by moses ,only 2 out of the original people made it into the promised land.that means out of 6 billion alive today about 3600 will make it to heaven,if you go by percentages.
---tom2 on 10/17/09

You have got to be kidding!!!!
Yes Christ was sinnless.
Yes, the Bible is 100% accurate.
And no works alone don't get us into heaven.
Faith WITH works shows we are truly in Christ.
And yes satan is very real!
