James 4:8 says " Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded."
Spending time with God through prayer, meditation on His words and obedience will draw us near to God.

We are goin' to see times, you will feel so hurt, betrayed by people you genuinely love yet, they will turn on or away when you can't understand. Please know Jesus is there helping you! Don't dwell on feelings/your ownopinion/ no matter how it looks! Ps.37,Rom.8:35-40,Ja.4:7,2.Th.3:3.A song says"reach out & touch the masters hand!"

God is everywhere, you may not see Him with your physical eyes (Jer.23:23-24). God & Jesus are very much concerned with what you do in your heart (1Sam.16:7). Truly, once you determine in your heart that you really want to be close to Jesus, the Holy Spirit will start immediately to help you, guide you, train you to be following the prescriptions(as found in the Holy Bible) of God to live. As you continue to faithfully follow God's instruction the closer you will be to Jesus Christ (John 14:23). Even start to pray now that the Lord Jesus should help you to get close to Him, you will soon have testimonies to give, which will help others too.

The Father is in His temple, and as believers, the body of His Christ, we are the lively stones of that temple. Therefore, draw near unto Him with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having [your mind cleansed] from an evil conscience, and He will draw near to you.
For now, in Christ Jesus, we who were sometimes afar off are made near by His atoning sacrifice. Through Jesus we now have access by one Spirit unto the Father, and by His faith, we can not only boldly and confidently access, but also enter into the Holiest by His atonement. Which is a new and living way that He has consecrated for us, through the veil, and by which we may enter into His presence.

Alan8566 of UK You're welcome, thanks to you for the kind words. I knew what you meant anyway. Gods people need to be careful not to grab hold and hang on to words which have the wrong meaning, that would leave them hanging on to nothing. The Bible says to study to show yourself approved 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God,a workman that need not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. Thats very good advice from God. God Bless

Just last night at prison ministry I heard a lady praying. It is customary to have a praying session before we go into the cells and while I do not know his lady personally I have seen her from time to time. Last night however she was asked to pray, her prayer really brought everyone closer to the Lord for me just as a listener I felt like I was rubbing elbows with Jesus himself. This lady is in a praying prayer warrior!!!!!!
Both my son and daughter-in-law and grandson can pray like this, it is almost as if their prayers are receiving the nods of the Lord Jesus Christ as he listens.
Prayers of this nature are frightfully frank and honest!!!! Really "no holds barred" God you are God and here is my petition!!!!

Galatians 5:24,25 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. If you live by and walk in the fruits of the Holy Spirit you will be close to Jesus and the Father.

A person gets close to God when he or she does the two commandments spoken of by Jesus and, at the same time, communicate (thrugh prayer) with Him.
Christians get close to Jesus when we give to the poor and needy cheerfully, give drink to the thirsty. Do an online KJV bible search for "one another," "each other," and "encourag" because living a christian life is a 24/7 lifestyle - not a once a week pep talk dished out by denominational "churches."

Darlene ... Thanks for agreeing with me.
Blindly following the written words as absolutely literal gives nonsense.
You though have the commonsense to see what the words actually mean.
But I worded my previous post badly, In the middle paragraph, I wrote "seriously" when I meant "literally"

Alan8566 of UK,hi,I noticed,1 Peter 3:22 (Jesus)Who is gone into heaven, and is "on" the right hand of God,angels and authorities, and powers being made subject unto him. Jesus "on" the right hand of God not "at" right hand. From "at" to "on" is a different meaning so I did research and found the right hand of God denotes the power of God. Colossians 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. Matthew 28:18 All power in heaven and earth was given to Jesus it follows Jesus "on" Gods right hand of power Matthew 26:64 Mark 14:62 Luke 22:69, shows God had bestowed on Jesus all his power. Not about Christs location in Heaven.

Donna ... Thanks ... I'm glad you agree with me!
Some take the Bible so seriously that they would say that Jesus sits on His throne ... period.
Or even ... "Jesus sits on God's right hand" ... which would be, to my mind, a bit uncomfortable and inconvenient for both !

alan8566_of_uk you tickle me! You make me smile and laugh at the same time. You are a precious brother in the Lord.
You said: Surely Jesus will mingle with us in heaven, not just sit on His throne?
What do you think? Of course Jesus will mingle with us in heaven and not just sit on His throne.
Do you just sit in one chair in your home? Don't you mingle with others in your house or when company visits, don't you get up from your chair and mingle with them? I'm still chuckling over your post. Too cute!!!

One of my favorites right now is Matt 10:27. "What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight, what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs" according to one translation.
Ask, then listen to what might be whispered in your ear. Learn to recognize the speaker.

Bill ... Yes ... but that's nothing to do with what I was asking Donna

Well, Alan . . . Jesus does say, "'Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.'" (Revelation 3:20)
How do I open the door? I think of Mary who "sat at Jesus' feet and heard His word." > see Luke 10:38-42 > see how Jesus stood up for Mary, not for the one who was just busy with "serving" Him.
I notice how prayer starts with "Our Father" . . . not with attention to our sins or trying to get God to solve our problems or give us things we want. But first our *attention* needs to be with You, and submitting openly to however You please to rule us in Your peace (Colossians 3:15).

Donna ... "God is in heaven on His throne. Jesus sits at the right hand of God"
I've always thought that to be symbolic. and not a literal description of their physical geographic location.
Surely Jesus will mingle with us in heaven, not just sit on His throne?
What do you think?
---alan8566_of_uk on 11/16/09|
Donna has given you an excellent answer. Read Romans 1013 slowly, absorbing what it says. Act on it by calling upon the Lord Jesus Christ to save your soul that he will do so!!!!!
---mima on 11/16/09|
God is in heaven on His throne. Jesus sits at the right hand of God. The Holy Spirit dwells on in us.
Start reading the Gospels. Start with John. Develop a love relationship with Jesus by talking to him, telling him what's on your heart. "Jesus, I want to be close to you, HOW can I do that?"
The disciples asked Jesus, How should we pray? So why can't you ask, how can I be close with you?
Join a Spirit-filled church with spirit-filled believers who love the Lord. Let them teach you the word of God until you learn how to study it for yourself.
It's like developing a relationship with a new friend. You talk to them. You share things with them. Draw nigh to God and God will draw nigh to you.
