Too many to count! But just from the "a"s:

'And can it be?'
'Amazing grace'

And at Christmas, 'It came upon a midnight clear' with that poignant plea: "Oh hush you noise ye men of strife, and hear the angels sing"

let see ,what does the human race celebrate, birthdays, sports champions, the seemingly never ending endless awards shows who,s list alone would take a book to write, raises, new car purchase, graduations, new years, and on ,and on ,and on,so let me ask ,whats up with not celebrating gods decision to enter the human race,to save it?

"At Calvary" (Baptist hymnal) always gives me goosebumps!!
---JackB on 12/14/09

Cluny ... We have enough trouble with those who say that by celbrating His birth on 25th Decemeber we are worshipping a pagan god, and that in any case we should not celebrate His birth.

We really don't need to insist that at this joyful time we restrict our songs of Joy to the period after Christmas day.

Don't you think it good that during the time of excessive present buying and drinking, we as Christians sing carols and show them what it is really all about?

My favorite Christian song is "Must Jesus Bear the Cross Alone?" sung by an Asian singer, Mimi, in her Mimi music ministry. I have heard her sing this in various languages and my favorite is English, Lahu and Thai. This song has been a real blessing of encouragement in my Christian life.

\\ Cluny: Lighten up dude! :) You're not going to get legalistic on me by saying this "time" of year isn't appointed by the Church as the Christmas Season, are you\\

You are the one who mislabelled this as the Christmas season, not I.
---Cluny on 12/11/09

I have many favorites, and one of my old songs that is from God to me, is:

~Papa my love on a cross, your blood's poured out for me.
You have given me your life, to reign instead of me.
Hosanna! Hosanna! my heart cries out for you.
Hosanna! Hosanna! I give my all to you...(x2)

I know it isn't Christmas Day yet. But, isn't it okay to sing Christmas songs of glory, honor & praise to our Lord & Saviour regardless? We really don't have to wait until the appointed day, do we?

I think of it like church, i.e., we shouldn't just get into a posture of praise & worship the moment we get there. Rather, our praise & worship should've started long before we arrive. As Scripture says, we should ENTER into his courts with praise. (Ps. 100:4-5)

I appreciate your concern. :)

Since this is the Christmas Season, my personal favorite is THE FIRST NOEL. :)

"...Noel, Noel -- Noel, Noel: Born is the King of Israel..."
---Leon on 12/10/09\\

This is NOT the Christmas Season.

This is ADVENT.

Christmas STARTS on 25 December, and continues (in Western use) for the 12 Days (as the folk carol says), closing on 6 January.

Not sure of the title, but it goes something like "Take me into the holy of holies, take me in by the blood of the Lamb"--sooooo beautiful and my all-time favorite!

\\"How Great Thou Art", "Great is Thy Faithfullness", "Amazing Grace", "Blessed Assurance"... These older songs had mening in their lyrics as well as depth. Those are the oldies but goodies...\\

How can things not written any earlier than the 19th century be called "oldies but goodies?"

"Today the Virgin gives birth...." written by Romanos in the 5th century--now THAT'S old.

One of my favorites is "To God be the Glory," by Audrea Crouch.

I think the greatest Christian songs are:
"How Great Thou Art", "Great is Thy Faithfullness", "Amazing Grace", "Blessed Assurance"... These older songs had mening in their lyrics as well as depth. Those are the oldies but goodies... today's music is ok. Some of the music is pretty, but the lyrics are sung over and over.. I do like
"Shout to the Lord", "God of Wonder", I do like the group Phillips, Craig and Dean...

Mansion Over the Hilltop, Meeting In The Air, and Oh I Want To See Him are three of my favorite old hymns. My favorite contemporary song would be Amazing Love. My favorite old Christmas song would be Silent Night. The Gaithers wrote a contemporary Christmas carol which is called "It's Still The Greatest Story Ever Told." I will be singing that one at the church Christmas program.
